I know that Iron is key too. I guess you have talked about it in another training topic recently. All these nutrients should be measured and balanced. I think it's a very methodic but fundamental issue. Thanks !
I am a vegetarian runner and run a lot of miles per week. I found out last year that I had a b12 deficiency and was anaemic. A huge shocker too because I thought I was getting a lot of iron in my diet. I now take iron supplements and b12 daily. So important to get checked for these things, especially plant-based runners.
Thank you for the Awareness. This is extremely helpful especially I'm a high school runner wanting to strive for great success. Keep on being the hardworking informative person you are and I look forward to your next video
Thanks Sage! Check out the book "The Starch Solution" by Dr John McDougall. Addresses b12, calcium, protein, etc for vegan diets. And Dr Michael Gregor has his Nutrition Facts RU-vid channel with great clinical info on vegan diets also.
Any suggestions for avoiding having GERD Disease commonly known as "Heartburn or Acid Reflux"? I've been running for a year now and suffered terrible acid reflux last two weeks ago.
Do you know anything about nutritional yeast? I am a vegan and high school level runner and I don't take a supplement, but tend to add nutritional yeast to a lot of meals. I'm curious to know what you think of that as a supplement.
+Mitchell McLaughlin yes, we use Bragg's all the time (nutritional yeast). It's great..but it's probably not going to be enough alone (b12 is hard to absorb).
Hi sage. i would really appreciate if you would make a video about agility training for Marathon runners. Is this neccesary? and if so : how much and what kind of exercises ? thanks a lot!
+Mike H. oh I never look! The weird thing is, it's shots/injections that scare me the most. Blood tests though...I can watch the blood spurt out into the test tubes.
Hi Sage I really love your videos lately! I have a question for you: What is your opinion on increasing weekly mileage? I am slowly upping mine (about 10 miles a month) and taking mostly easy runs if I feel sore, but the question is can I just adding up to infinity if I feel fine? In January I ran like 10 M a week and now I run 40M a week and plan to run almost 50 at the end of December. Isn't it too much too fast? My goal is to run ultra marathons in 2017 and beyond but I have no athletic background. In 2011 I was obese and I never did any sport (accept fencing for a year in high school). I started running in 2012 btw.
Well when i started running i ran almost a mile every day and some occasional 5k's around 2 times a week and then i slowly started upping my mileage, although when i increased my mileage too fast i was stuck with a knee injury that lasted me almost a whole month so its goos your being careful but im pretty sure your being a little bit TOO careful
Jaserepic Maybe, but injuries does like me. I wonder what I do wrong. I can swallow continuos milege increase for months with ease and then like this week, I overdid some downhills and ended up in pain. Well I may be slow, but I know I push myself hard.
Morfeus Well regardless running will be painful at first, I dont have a lot of muscle and am fairly skinny so throughout my entire season i had some pain in my calves after finishing a run.
+Harrison Tucker That's debatable. Cyano is the most studied and usually not quite as expensive. Methyl is for sure fine, but keep in mind a lot of these vitamin companies/doctors like to suggest one type is a lot better than the other (i.e. cyano turns to cyanide in your body so it's dangerous!). There are several studies show that absorption rates between different forms are fairly negligible....keep in mind the bias to sell products!
+Vo2maxProductions wow. Definitely gives me something to look more deeply into. I was lead to believe that you have no use for cyano. and that your body just converts it to methyl. but I now want to do some more research on the subject. I've also seen b12 supplements that contain both methyl and cyano. maybe I should look into that too.
+Levi D. Yeah, I read up on the cyanide- methyl group "swap." Thanks for the info. Serving sizes (pill vs. injection) is going to differ quite a bit between these different forms and there are individual variations in absorption rates/effectiveness so it's not a "one pill/serving/type fixes all" in my mind . But it really comes down to this: I'm not giving myself a shot!
+drewlikesrice what about for a road shoe? I was looking at Hokas but I usually have to wear a wide (2E) shoe and I only saw them at regular width (D). In the past I have sometimes bought a half size bigger to get a regular width shoe but I don't normally like doing that. Any suggestions?
