I started with 1000mcg Methylcobalamin, it was ok, a nice boost to me day. But recently I found some 5,000mcg that dissolve under your tongue. I take them after breakfast and boom I am energized. I am recovering my an illness that prevented me from my daily three mile walk for 5 months, now I am quickly working my way back.

At the age of 35, one day at a very stressful job, I suddenly lost the feeling in the tips of my toes, fingers and the ability to taste also having lost the feeling in my tongue. I also developed a splitting headache, lost a lot of weight and noticed my hair falling out. My doctor instinctively tested for my B12 levels. My levels were so low, that they did not register on the test. She put me on weekly injections and was concerned if I might have developed permanent nerve damage. She said also that because I had premature grey hair, that it was very luckily that I did not absorb B12 well. Luckily, after 6 scary months, I gradually regained all the feeling back with no damage. More than 10 years have passed, and I make sure I take B12 almost daily now.

When I was 65 my primary car physician during an annual health visit did a quick sensation check on the bottom of my feet. I could not feel it. My B12 blood test was normal although on the low end of normal. She recommended take a B12 supplement with 2000 mg. I did and within 6 days my feet had returned to pretty normal sensation. They continued to improve for more than six months. I continued taking B12 and will for the rest of my life.

If you’ve ever had Trigeminal Neuralgia, an excruciating facial nerve condition that’s nicknamed “The Suicide Disease,” you wouldn’t think anything is too much when it comes to B12. Because of sublingual Methylcobalamin taken at 5,000 mcg dosage, my TN completely disappeared! It was nothing short of miraculous-keeping me from having to have a scheduled MVD surgery (brain surgery) at UCI in Irvine, Ca. Three years later, I am still symptom free! I still take sublingual 5,000 mcg every two days just to make sure the TN doesn’t come back. Back in the 50’s sublingual B12 was widely used for TN and MS as a first line of treatment. But then Big Pharma arose and… well you know the rest of that story. It’s an all-too familiar one. 😮

I cannot even understand how b12 can heal cluster/similar. I use the highest one CAN use without making a issue for the rest of the body . Because , its not like one doesnt have a limit ? I use triptan and o2 (8 to twelve bar/high pressure) against cluster /suicidal headache. I couldnt make it without,tbh. No matter supplements. It IS a infection on the back of the eye , right ,so one needs triptans/ergotamine,to contract bloodwessel that is swollen ...i think? Its the only thing that work for me. Even strong petidin/ketamin/morphin wont help. I have tryed everything ,im sure. All neuralgica medication,supplements,botox ,nerve blokade's (waist of time). I have been offered surgery,but the high risc surgery dont often work,so... I thought everyone with this type of headache get high pressure high bar o2 ? And nausia medication ,of course. This type of headache is easy to spot,it makes one eye deep,bright red and swollen,and tears will flow ,constantly (and nose will run,at the same side). The patient cannot lie still , like people with migraine will do. Its a horrible state . But it MIGHT disapear, or at least become a rare thing . So, cross fingers !

I have high homocysteine due to homozygous MTHFR mutation. High doses of methylcobalamin were prescribed, but a few months later I had odd symptoms, including strange aches and muscle pains, brain fog and terrible insomnia. Soon after, I broke out in a bright red, full-body rash that lasted several days. The high-dose B12 was the only recent change I had made, and it turns out I am allergic to cobalt. This also explained a decades-long reaction I had had to certain types of eye makeup, which caused oozing, painful rashes. I always thought some unknown red pigment was to blame, but it was blue from cobalt. Skin rashes are one thing, but the full-body and brain problems I had with high doses of methylated B-12 were debilitating. So it's not correct to say it is completely safe at high doses. A small percentage of us will have an allergic reaction

@@Lauren-vd4qe no, I haven't worn eye makeup in many years. When it used to happen with certain colors, years ago, the reaction was almost immediate. @@windy42305It’s very common to have high serum B12 when you have a B1 deficiency. If he’s deficient in B1 he can have sufficient and also high serum B12 without utilizing it, a so called functional B12 deficiency. Love this video. I started taking B 12 5,000 mcg liquid, 2 droppers full three times daily and it improved my mental focus by the end of the day. I believe we cannot get enough nutrients in our food, and we also need enough stomach acid to absorb the nutrients. Over the age of 30, our stomach acid declines. I am taking high doses of B vitamins now and can feel a big difference in energy levels. A friend of mine has horrible nerve pain and she has refused to megadose B vitamins. With this Medical Doctor video, hopefully she will now believe me.

I had to take 35,000 mcg of B12 everyday years ago for 6 months, I then started to reduce it and over a year I had to stabilize at 15 to 20,000 a day for almost a year I’m now at 10,000 a day . I’ve had 5 low back surgeries and 3 neck surgeries. I was also exposed to benzene severely in 88 . And my adrenal glands are enlarged to about the size of a half dollar. It was to the point I didn’t want to get out of bed or take a bath . My family didn’t understand they thought I was just lazy and in self pity. I was praying and praying for help but drs didn’t help . I was woken up one night around 3am to go and research adrenal fatigue. And the video said to take but loads of B12 so I started with 2,000 and each morning I doubled it until I was back up and moving around. It took about two weeks. I was back my garage doing things . I hurt because of my past injuries I’m not on any pain meds and I don’t let the pain stop me as much as it used too . I recover and hit it again, I recover and repeat. I was 27 when exposed to benzene, I’m here because of my prayers and Gods blessing, I was 21 when I broke my back and I was 43 when I injured my neck that was the one the took me out of work. I’m now weeks away from 64 . I still do things but much much slower. But I’m persistent until it’s done . I weld build things do woodwork and I a retired electrician. Each day is a gift even in the pain and believe me it’s painful. Some days I can’t walk , god ask us to praise him even in the valley as well as the mountain top and I can tell you without him I couldn’t make it in those valleys. You would be amazed what he will do for you in just praising him on those difficult days , God is Good ❤

Low B12 can cause high homocysteine levels. High homocysteine is related to heart attack, stroke, cancer. I had a heart attack, I can't prove it but it is very likely that I had high homocysteine. I had to find out everything about homocysteine on my own, no one in the hospital nor any cardiologist afterward told me about it. I read the story of Dr. Kilmer S. McCully and from that reading I began to read a lot about homocysteine, vitamin B12 and diseases. Regarding neuropathies, Thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency can also cause them. Since I take 1000 mcg of B12 and 100 mg of B1 a day I am a different person.

I dont know. Cruising YT there is an absolute cesspool of conflicting info on B12. Its infuriating. This doctor says its safe whatever dose you take. The problem is what do you do when b12 makes you sleepy and lethargic ? There are even health -care amateurs claiming that cobolamin can build to toxic levels if the b12 uptake is incomplete due to low stomach HCI and Intrinsic factor. Therefore - Toxic (can cause anxiety and lethargy all day long) The sleepy and lethargic reaction is very common. There are tons of threads on Reddit about it. So. ITS NOT SAFE ! It does matter how,when and how much you take . Just keep it in mind.

Most people don't have a problem with knowing how much to take. Their problem is that they use the doctor's Serum B12 test results to tell them if they are okay. They do this without knowing the Methionine Cycle the Folate Cycle and the MS enzyme that connects them. If more doctors performed MMA and Hyc tests rater than an almost useless Serum B12 test, they would have a much better idea of their Methylation and Transsulphuration status, which is what it's all about.

@NerveDoctors
@NerveDoctors Год назад
Hi Michael. Yes, the bread (and all complex carbohydrates known as starches) will cause your glucose levels to shoot up. It will be extremely difficult for the Benfotiamine to stay ahead of the game. You need to adopt a ketogenic diet with intermittnet fasting. This is key. You will also need more than just benfotiamine. You will need ALL of the vital nutrients for nerve repair. I'm including 2 links to my video that you definitely need to watch: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wPruq49-ksU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dKMPMPJM4JY.html Also, watch these 2 videos on reversing diabetic peripheral neuropathy: Part1: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ks-WJD3WOjs.html Part2: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pnOIvXW9Qyw.html This will put you on the right track.

This is an awesome video. And I am SO GLAD I stumbled across it. I was researching a prep used for vertigo, and got more info that I needed because my husband has recently dianosed dementia, at 83. The meds for dementia have horrible side effects, and I took him off them pronto. I am convinced now, that the tiny dose of B12, that the NP recommended was a moot point, especially because she failed him at every turn, saying that his 104 weight, down from 140 was nothing to worry about. It turned out to be colon cancer. I got another opinion. Now, his memory is so short, and he gets lost if he has to make more than one turn, so now, I do EVERYTHING. l fully intend to put him on a high dose of B12, and a prep, I looked into for my vertigo has a high dose. I have him on MCT oil, and Benfotiamine3, and D3, 4,ooo, plus k2. Other than the memory and directional issues, he does very well. Gets wholesome food, and good sleep, and, even though he still complains of our long walks when we were dating, I see that he does get enough walking LOL Thank you SO much, Dr., I will subscribe!

B12 is doubtless relatively safe in big doses, however in large doses if you are otherwise already healthy it can give you difficulties focusing your attention due to excess energy. I am not sure about B12 to treat peripheral neuropathy (if it is caused by excesses of minerals or excess Vitamin B6, ALA is a better treatment to remove the excess from your system which will lead to healing). Excess B12 may feel a little similar to taking excess Iron. B12 isn't a catch all for fatigue, you need to ensure you have adequate levels of vitamin E, folic acid(Folate), magnesium and iron for that (folic acid has some similar impacts on the body to B12 so getting the right combination of the two is important, excess of either can mask deficiencies in the other). Vitamin B6 is also important in small doses, however if you are taking more than 12mg per day from all supplements you are probably overdosing (I take 6mg myself) and may be causing peripheral neuropathy (impact is gradual over time). IF you 'need' more than 150mcg B12 a day and you are not unfit chances are B12 is not your problem unless you have a medical condition that your doctor advises is best treated with B12.

Dr. Coppola, two questions for you, [1] you can take as much B12 as your condition needs it, 8,000 mcg or even 10,000 but your body cannot absorb it due to mutation in the body is it not a waste of money? [2] What is the best brand of B12 known to you that you can recommend? Thank you.
@NerveDoctors
@NerveDoctors Год назад
Hi John. You pose a very interesting question and let me do my best to answer this. First, no one ever needs to take 8000 mcg or more. If a person has a confirmed genetic defect that prohibits the absorption of methylcobalamin (the correct form of B12), then yes, it would be a waste of money because the B12 would not be absorbed, orally. Now, there are cases (depending on the defect) where the B12 can be administered via IV or injection without an issue. There are many very good brands of B12 in the form of methylcobalamin. That's what you need to look for...Methylcobalamin. Here are a few companies...Garden of Life, Thorne, Pure Encapsulations.

Many clinical studies have shown that oral tablets provide enough B12 for long term maintenance instead of needing regular injections. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4993789/ I have pernicious anemia and used to self inject monthly. Now I just take one 1000 mcg daily. Even with absorption problems, the studies indicate that 5% of the oral B12 still made its way into the blood and that was enough to maintain healthy levels. You still might need high iv doses when first diagnosed with low B12.

Someone in the comments was asking if there was more pain as neuropathy healed. Unknown if this is universal, but in 2010 I suffered from Guillain Barré Syndrome (Miller Fisher Variant) and had a lot of neuropathy in hands and feet, plus a few other places. I took benfotiamine and methyl B12, along with some other nutrients. The onset was in May and I only got rid of the double vision in mid-July. Neuropathy in my hands kept me from working till mid-October, when I was able to start again even though I still had some neuropathy. I have just a few small places left. I did not suffer pain as the nerves healed, though they did so very slowly. I could not tell that there was any improvement day by day, but if I looked back a week I could see the progress. This RU-vid makes me wonder if I could rid myself of the last couple of places by doubling or quadrupling my intake, which has been 1 mb. of methyl B12 a day, sublingual. I also was easily confused and sometimes anxious for over a year, even as I seemed to have recovered, which suggests to me that it took awhile for the myelin sheath in my brain to heal.

Fasting can help with many nerve issues. Some benefits of doing occasional extended fasting: High blood pressure is lowered to normal levels very quickly while fasting. Fasting restores NAD+ to healthy levels. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased as fasting improves metabolic health, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria, plaques and viruses by the immune system. It will also remove any 'foreign material' like spikes that are not supposed to be there. Whether natural or unnatural in origin.. Fasting increases nitric oxide release. Telomeres are lengthened and fasting also increases anti-aging Yamanaka factors. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Reflexes and short term memory are increased. Fasts from 36-96 h increase metabolic rate due to norepinephrine release! After 72 hours or more fasted, your body recycles up to 1/3 of all immune bodies, rejuvenating your entire immune system. This helps prevent the onset of new autoimmune conditions, which develop through a leaky gut and damaged immune system. Fasting can help with MS, Depression, BPD, Autism and seizures. Thymus is regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. The thymus also plays a vital role in fighting cancer. Blood sugar and insulin are lowered when fasting, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Weight loss from daily caloric restriction has 1/4 to 1/3 of the weight lost as lean tissue while many studies show fat loss from 36 h fasts without losing any lean tissue! The obese will lose extra tissue like loose skin while fasting, but the skinny or frail will have increased growth hormone release than the obese, which helps to make more lean tissue and reduce frailness. The hunger hormone ghrelin also lowers with extended fasting and rises from dieting. When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell required for viruses to replicate. What breaks a fast? Anything with protein or carbohydrates in it will break a fast. Most teas and herbs are OK. Most supplements and meds will either break ketosis directly or contain a filler that will. Many meds are dangerous to take while fasting. Does fasting lower testosterone? No, it raises it when the fast is broken by increasing lutenizing hormone. Fasting also increases insulin sensitivity, which helps with muscle building. Fasts of 36-96 will not affect short term female fertility or affect menstrual cycle. They also may increase long term fertility, especially in women with PCOS. Fasting reduces pain and anxiety by stimulating the endocannabinoid system in a similar way to CBD oil. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance, which impairs immune function. One day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! Stomach acid is reduced over time while fasting and can allow for the healing of treatment resistant ulcers. Some patients may need continued acid reduction medication while fasting. Does the body preferentially prefer glucose as a fuel? No. Except for brief periods of very intense exercise, your body mainly burns fats in the form of free fatty acids. Your brain also prefers to burn ketones at a rate of around 2.5 to 1 when they are available in equal quantity to glucose. Fasting stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Lowering insulin via fasting virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism, fighting infection and cancer prevention! Fasting releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth. This can help a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. When not in ketosis, the brain can only burn carbohydrate, which produces a great deal of damaging ROS the brain has to deal with. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells, destroying them. Senescent cells are responsible for many of the effects of aging and are a root cause of the development of cancer. A fasting mimicking diet for 3-5 days in a row also provides many of the same benefits as water fasting. FMD usually has 200-800 calories, under 18 g of protein and extremely low carbs. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness or tremors, then simply break the fast and seek advice. And... is small fiber neuropathy a different monster than large fiber neuropathy; or do they go pretty much go hand-in-hand? Small fiber neuropathy (sensory nerves) in the hands and feet seems to be reported about as if it's a more frustrating to treat than large fiber; unless I'm missing something.

I copied your last message from yesterday and have added this to it. I immediately went over it with Dr. Coppola, who also agreed it was a brilliant topic for us to cover, so we've bumped another topic that we had scheduled for June and will be replacing it with this one. We should release this video on this topic by the end of June. Thanks so much for your suggestion!

Hi. Happy to help. When I've worked with M.S. patients I always place them on Nuphoria cm Gold and Nerve Defense along with placing them on an anti-inflammatory diet. I would follow Dr. Terry Wahl's protocol because she's the expert in MS especially since she fully reversed hers and got out of a wheelchair. (terrywahls.com/?) You will also need to use photobiomodulation. Additional supplements you will need to add in are Vitamin D3 in high doses (20,000-30,000 IU's, daily), Omega 3 fatty acids (3000-4000 mg, daily), CoQ10 400 mg, daily, Melatonin and NAC (600-900 mg, daily). This should get you started. Also make sure you see the video we did on M.S. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kpmq_ObLxSc.html Blessings.

There was a semi recent study that linked high levels of B6 and B12 supplementation to a 3-4X risk of lung cancer. How does that play into all of this?
@robman2095
@robman2095 9 месяцев назад
Not well. In fact there are multiple studies finding increased risk of lung cancer associated with B12 but none showing causation as yet. Not hard to find these with a bit of googling. Some of these studies are with very large number of subjects too. Probably best to compare the typically high doses in these studies with what one’s doctor might be recommending and weigh up risk/benefit after discussing with the doctor.

Don't take B12 supplements but my B12 levels are always high. Recent blood test showed 808 pg/ml. Lab range was 197-771. Doctor said asked if I took a supplement or more likely due to a high protein diet.

What if your kidney GFR rate is a low number like 60? Would too much be hard on the kidneys?

I was diagnosed as one who can no longer absorb V-12 via food. I was on B-12 injections on a bi-monthly basis for the past 12-13 years. Now, I have a new PCP who refuses to authorize the shots as my recent fasting blood work showed a level of 1,000 which is over the high number of the so called healthy range. Is she doing me any favors? I will not miss the shots but, also, do not want to flirt with danger, either. As far as knew I have no neuropathy. Is there a B-12 specialist?

So the optimal daily allowance for general good health is 10,000 mcg daily - but if you need nerve repair, then you need at most 3,000 mcg daily? Does this make sense to you? It’s hard to imagine a more confusing video.

I think you missed the point, he was just comparing the RDA and the ODA which is what they say you should take . Remember he said everyone is different so the 1500-3000 mcg is the overall recommended daily amount for everyone . So if you drink or smoke or have something else going on you might need more , just like the case he was talking about where they gave the patient 60.000mcg daily.

With oil-soluble vitamins, there is always a risk to the liver if you take too much. D,E,A,K are the vitamins you must be careful not to take in excess, unless under the care of a professional. Excesses of water-soluble vitamins are easily dispose of through the kidneys. For those, it becomes more a cost/benefit analysis of throwing away excess vitamins.

Is the other one that beings with an M...forgot what it is......but it one better than the other. I'm done with B12. Also is it bad with other meds....I also take Lisinopryll and hydrcloroziodie Thanks

Toxicity induced by multiple high doses of vitamin B12 during pernicious anemia treatment: a case report Context: The clinical consequences of excess vitamin B12 induced by multiple oral doses of cyanocobalamin are not well-known. Case details: A young woman was treated with multiple daily doses of 1 mg of cyanocobalamin for severe pernicious anemia. After a total dose of 12 mg, she developed acne, palpitations, anxiety, akathisia, facial ruddiness, headache, and insomnia. She improved two weeks after stopping the drug. There were no sequelae nor complications. Discussion: Although these symptoms of cobalamin toxicity were unexpected and unusual, the case reminds us that the administration of any drug is not entirely safe.

Avoid cyano form. Try methyl B12

Are Methylcobalamine the one you’re thinking about? I would check your B1 levels if I were you. Those can be the symptoms of wet beriberi. If you suddenly increase one vitamin or mineral the demand can increase for others as well. If you’re on the edge of a B1 deficiency supplementing with a large dose of another vitamin can push you over the edge. Ask your doctor for a 'Whole blood thiamine testing' and not a serum or plasma.

I'm 68 now. My blood B-12 was: in 2017 - 376 pg/ml . . . 2018 - 445 pg/ml . . . 2019 - 771 pg/ml then I started taking B-complex supplement 2-3 times a week (15mcg B-12) and then it dropped to 646 in late 2019 then dropped to 518 in 2020 and I have not tested since 2020. I guess the doctor was not interested in it any more. The first big jump from 445 to 771 was right when I started a keto diet that Ive been on since late 2018. So why did it climb and why did it taper off. All I can think of is that it has a natural wide range and the numbers were just coincident(?) This last 6 months I have had almost no nephropathy symptoms of stabbing pains that come out of nowhere in my feet. Never been diabetic but I was insulin resistant before going keto. I dont like B supplements because it makes me smell like a vitamin. Oh, and I also eat about a pound of beef every day which provides a LOT of B-12

It’s what i take. If your body doesn’t use any excess will be eliminated as B12 is water soluble so you don’t need to worry about overdosing.
