Thanks Sage for sharing this video. I am a newly converted to being a vegetarian and reaping the benefits of doing so. It just boils down to I don't enough, I don't take enough calories in a day. So seeing what you consume is a great eye opener. Keep up with the great videos. Cheers!
Thanks for such a funny, smart, and honest video. I love that part when Sandi said, "No, you have that twice a week!" I've been running since 15 and getting back into it after a little break, and also making that big transition to a plant-based diet so your videos have been very inspirational! Keep those diet videos going because they really keep me going. Those edamame burgers look delicious. Any chance that you or Sandi can share the recipe? You guys should do a plant-base runner's cookbook!
I found you through looking up running videos (I ran in high school, now 3 decades later, I'm starting to run again), and then saw that you are on a vegan diet...awesome! You're an inspiration to me....
awesome !!! this is hilarious, we laughed so hard watching this together!! Being a vegan running couple also, we eat pretty much just like you and Sandy and even do the same things, Gwen eats all the ice cream, Katie tries to be much healthier! So awesome, keep it up!
Hi Sage...I love your "What I Eat in a Day" videos. Keep them coming. I'm new to your channel, & I love it! Tons of great information & inspiration. Have a great day! :)
Busted, Sage... Sandi caught you on the 'special treat' classification..... LOVE this video... we need more of these!!! You're welcome to come to our house ANY TIME and I'll provide all the ingredients if you'll help me prepare it!!! Next time you're down in the Springs???!! :)
Trick for fast rice put in a microwave safe covered container with small amount of venting then wash rice and finally fill until water is up to first knuckle on index finger when touching the bottom then put in microwave on high for 9-12 min depending on power I us normally do this with 1.5-3 cups of rice to start
Lindsey and I eat very similar. I like smoothies because they are easy to digest liquid calories. The 'hardest' part of training for me is eating enough plant-based calories. Not necessarily a bad thing though.
hi sage. thanks for the vlogs. I've been practicing vegan diet for some time now. i struggle a lot on what kinda meal i should prepare. do u guys have a cook book or something.
Great meals, You are no superhuman after all. :D I use date syrup, brown rice syrup or barley malt extract as a substitute for honey. (previously agave)
I love watching what other runners (or fitness people) eat! I have so much fun in my kitchen making new meals, prepping food, etc. It's very relaxing to me and makes me know I am fueling my body with quality, healthy, whole food. A question completely off the topic of diet: how do you avoid overuse injuries when you run so much?!? I am in awe. Thanks for wonderful content on a wonderful channel. Susan (Loveland, CO)
P.S. I have a degree in Nutrition and you did GREAT! I noticed you didn't eat a ton of fruit on this day. Lots of veggies so no big deal, just an observation....
Sage I appreciate your videos. I have run for many years-over 25-starting out as a cross country runner in high school. I was never a gifted runner but I know that I always feel so much better and alive once I get into the meat of my run and after. I run in the mornings around 6 am to escape the Texas heat. For many years I ate a bagel and coffee about an hour before I ran. I had problems with gas and bloating but around halfway through my run had more energy. For the past 3 years I have been running on an empty stomach in the morning between 8 and 12 miles sometimes up to 16. I only drink black coffee and some water and am out the door an hour later. I have had mixed results. I don't have the same gas and digestion issues but I experience tightness in my quads-particularly my left quadricep. Do you have any suggestions?
I'd say the quad pain doesn't have to do with your diet. When I ran marathons at Hansons I used to do the same: plain coffee and then straight into a 12-18 mile kind of run/workout. Usually after about 18-20 miles at high intensity I'd need a gel (and then eat a huge brunch afterwards). I'd check shoes/running form for the quad pain.
That was very interesting. If have never seen anyone eating this much tofu in one meal. :-) Do you eat any fruit at all? I eat like 5-6 pieces per day. Is that too much?
That all looks delicious and healthy. My question is about the beer. Do you ever find that beer too close to bed disrupts sleep, or messes with your metabolism, or causes changes in your... let's say "internal rhythms"? Thanks for a great video -- the edamame burgers look great, I think I'll adopt that one...
Guys, I'd love to see on your website few (freq. updated), vegan/plant based recipes, meal plans etc. (as those burgers, slurp!!). Just like it is on some other (The Buff something something ;)), 'fitness' oriented YT channels. It could be really advantageous (YT search algorithms would direct more ppl to your channel)!!! Btw Sage, your RRR100 training looks awesome!!!
A few months back, I went to a vegetable store and asked if they sold edamame.. they had no idea what it was, they thought I was making it up lol..went to another, they never heard of it.. so I gave up on my search for it :(. those burgers look so good!...
Super new to your channel, so I don't know exactly what your dietary regiment is, but if you're looking for a vegan option to use instead of honey, you can try agave nectar. :)
Thanks for sharing Sage...I have been eating plant based for the past 8 months and noticing big results in my training. The Ben & Jerry s is not in Canada yet but loving the Cashew icecream by So Delicious and I hear ya, usually finish one off in a hour, lol
I haven't added it up (probably should for the budget). It's quite a bit though. (Is there anything better to invest in though?!...well maybe some stocks with high yield returns). We honestly do buy a lot of organic stuff and it's not cheap. Beans and rice and bananas and a lot of veggies can be pretty affordable for a lot of people though. Aside from the pre-packaged waffles and almond butters and ben and jerry's (quite expensive), the cost can be brought down. We cook and prepare our own meals and don't go out to eat much as well. It certainly helps to also have health food sponsors (i.e. Flora, Ugo Bars, Trail Butter, etc).
I typically spent about $110-130 biweekly. but I don't buy organic simply because I can't afford it. if its something you want to do, a good hack is to go to your expensive grocery stores and hit up the reduced racks. they often put fruits/veggies on there after 2/3 days even if they're still good. and I also buy bulk when it comes to rice, pasta and beans/peas/lentils. it gets expensive when you start getting into mock meats and cheeses and stuff. but with a little research and creativity you can get what you need on whole foods. but fair warning eat and don't be afraid to eat. haha!!! when I'm training I sometimes can't handle how much food I actually need to eat.
Sage, please help. After my runs I'm always craving coke or something cold and with sugar. it's killing me as I'm trying to improve my running not become slower
hey sage, i wanna make the transition to go vegan, do you have anything that could help me learning on that. any website or book, because i want to stay healthy and get all the nutrients my body needs. tanx !!
(off topic) Hey Sage, I'm a 19 year old college cross country runner who runs 23:03 in 4 miles. I have so much to improve on but do you think I have what it takes to become a sponsored elite runner like you? I'm inspired by you to make it big one day.
+axlrosea675 without disrespecting, it's amazing how you guys are not aware that bees are dying off because we are stealing their honey. Earth's ecosystem collapses without pollinators such as bees.
Sorry Erik, but it just not true what you are claiming. If you dont want to eat honey cause of what ever reason, so be it. But dont put out false information with the argument ... "google it"...
Hey guys this doesn't really have anything to do with video. But i wanted to know if takeing a ice bath with some stretches before hand would get rid of a really tight calf??
From my experience, it looks like you're either using your calves muscles too much instead of your gluts and thighs, or maybe your feet position hyper extends your calves. If only one calf hurts, you might have some balance issues as well. In short, work on your biomecanics.
most people take or sell their calf to the slaughterhouse. unless your young bovine friend has an undying fear of ice water and yoga I think you should resort to different methods. See if there are any humane societies that take in farm animals. Best of luck!
+ninjaguy123 On long runs I do start to feel like blood flow in my gluts and thighs start to slow down and all that. If that is the problem do you know anything I can do to fix that?
This is just for information sake......but no such thing as 98% vegan, or 98% vegetarian...but Sage rocks, and it is fantastic that he is vegetarian, and hopefully he can go the extra 2% and be part of the fastest growing social justice movement of recent times! So close Sage, SOOOO close!
Dear Sage , been following you on youtube for some months and im a great fun of your work. im somewhat surprised that it seems (only seems) you may not be getting sufficient proteins and over all nutrients (taking into account the massive workload you undertake) . it is a mere subjective view for this video. i may be wrong all together. blessings
Hank g You don't have to eat the exact same things as Sage to be vegan.... There are a lot of meat eaters out there who eat worse than Sage but you don't use that as a reason not to eat meat. How convenient.
Well, this was a sad watch compared to some of the quality content he puts out. Oh well...just don't feed your babies as if they're vegan, starving your kids to death is illegal in most countries.
