I am a Verizon customer. I do not have extended warranty. I just posted this on my Facebook to pass on to those who don't know about the extended warranty. Thanks Dave Ramsey!

All carriers do this it doesn't matter if water damage was the issue with the phone. Once liquid damage has occurred the warranty is voided.

Lol. Worked for sprint att and Verizon corporate. Guess what, the legal team will crush you in all three. They don’t care. The reps don’t care. And the manager doesn’t care. Good luck with the tantrum.

I know this is from 2014 but as a Verizon "indirect" employee. I would just say call into customer service and explain the situation. Typically you get get the $300 amount down depending on what the insurance deductible would be. FYI It is EXTREMELY easy for a phone to get water damage. In 2019 most devices are water resistant.

People don't understand that the extended warranty is not a warranty to start with. It is a kind of insurance! Do you really need to pay $$ monthly to insure your phone?! When it comes to insurance, here is my rule, only insure what you can not pay for..
@thomashaas5965
@thomashaas5965 5 лет назад
For the first 6 months to 1 year, insurance is worth it (especially now due to the cost of phones now vs then). Thats when you owe the most on it. Once 12 months rolls around, the phone is half paid for and then you can remove it and if you break it, just pay it off (because your balance would probably align with the deductible at that point and upgrade).

I am an IPhone owner and usually buy the newest one every year. I have the iPhone XS Max and would only buy the Apple Care warranty and not some random third party warranty. I have used apple care and it’s saves you a ton of money if you break your phone a lot. To replace my screen would be 550 dollars, but with apple care it only costs 49. Also if my phone is stolen or lost they replace it for a 200. Also it gives me great tech support and for the most part Apple is a stand up company to deal with.
@euenfheiejrj

The store is not the place to make this kind of complaint because a.) Helping this won't help or hurt the manager of the store and b.) The store manager is not paid to deal with PR issues. Theres other, better paid, people in the company who are paid to deal with that, so with all that being said, you'll probably end up being instructed to call customer care. I can promise you though that the store manager WILL NOT care about ANY of those threats. Not because he's mean but just simply because it will NOT affect him. To me, personally, this sounds like a valid charge. He sent in a phone to the warranty department whose warranty is expired because of liquid damage. It doesn't matter if the problem wasn't caused by liquid damage (or cracked screen, etc.). If a disqualifying event occurs, then the phone is disqualified from ALL warranty claims. Period. So then it has to become an insurance claim.

Take this advice. Buy a used phone from swappa (they sell used phones and tablets) and avoid a 2 year contract and sign up with who ever you want. avoid ATT their cust service is horrible and bad company to deal with. Also you might be better off buying an unlocked phone from swappa. You will save big and you still can resell on swappa and upgrage and buy a newer phone without having to worry about insurance too much unless you loose the phone.
@j0hncramer
@j0hncramer 5 лет назад
if ATT is good in your area just switch to straight talk and use ATT towers. I pay $47 a month and get like 25 GB in data. also they don't do overage charges like ATT and Verizon they just throttle your data until the next month if you go over.
@thomashaas5965
@thomashaas5965 5 лет назад
I think its been 3 years since either of them did overages...just fyi...you just get slowed down. Both carriers also offer an unlimited data plan so if overages ARE still a thing, its by customer's choice by not selecting an unlimited plan.

it doesn't matter if the "water damage " is not why you have problems with with phone. any exposure to moisture will void the warranty. they know that most ppl will expose their phone to moisture, so a big chunk of the insurance cost will be pure profit. learned the hard way. from now on phone stays outside of bathroom and put it in a zip lock bag if near any large body of water.

I got an extended warranty when I bought this laptop. Original warranty was 1 year and I upgraded it to 3 for an extra one hundred and something. It's now less than a month shy of 2 years old and still works fine. As far as my cell phone goes its out of warranty long ago..
@candyluna2929
@candyluna2929 8 лет назад
if they sell you a warranty for like 3years is bc the items will start to act up shortly after the warranty is over. they use the standard deviation for this.

All the major cell phone companies go through Asurion. Going through the carrier insurance is often more expensive and not always worth it. When you purchase a phone through Best Buy, however, they have their own insurance that is not only cheaper a month, but a lower deductible and better service because you're not going through an insurance company.
@mikenelson8377
@mikenelson8377 7 лет назад
Michael Scott that's debatable though concerning carrier insurance. What if something happens to your phone? Pay the deductible and get a new phone the next day. If you don't have insurance, say hi to Craigslist which can weeks to find a seller that is actually honest and sells you a non-hot phone. Then again, that's what an Emergency Fund is in place for so it's really up to you. And no, I don't work for any cell phone carrier.

My wife got a warranty on her phone from T-Mobile. The power button stopped working. We gave it to T-Mobile under the warranty and they gave her a brand new phone at no charge. That was a couple years ago, but I guess it depends on the company.

That's what I'm saying too. I have insurance on my 6S Plus and though I've never had to use it, I have the best coverage as Verizon will replace it for $200 the very next day.
@thomashaas5965

skylarscaling no...it has everything to do with the fact that your wife had no damage to her phone. I worked at tmobile and have seen people get hit with this same exact fee.

I’ve always gotten extended warranties but not with the service provider but with apple and they have excellent customer service. I always end up using my warranty before is over and getting a brand new phone out of the box. Supposedly you get extended warranties when you pay with your credit card but that sounds like a hustle to me

@douglaswilliams6834

Nah, the best thing to do in this situation is simply call Verizon's customer service line and tell them if the $300 charge doesn't go away you are switching carriers. Be forewarned, they probably won't make the charge go away, and they probably hear threats like this all the time, but, if they refuse, say goodbye, hang up, and find another carrier. You and your wife can probably even keep your phone numbers. The new carrier probably won't be any better, but Verizon just lost your monthly payment. Fortunately, there is competition in the cell phone industry, so you probably should have several choices of carrier. Never again buy an extended warranty.

I never buy a warranty ... It's not worth the paper it's Written on. They always claim wear and tear. There was a problem with my Motorola Razer screen and after going on line i found out that it was a pervasive problem. Even though i told them i saw the info in my Google search they would do nothing. As a result, i will never buy Motorolla again. And sadly i had absolutely loved that phone. I'm generally a loyal customer when I find a good brand.

So funny this video appeared. So I just bought the iphone 6s. The guy tells me I have to get the warranty. I said "I have to?" He said yes, the I said that's bs. Then he said I suggest you do, it's only an extra $6 dollars a month for a $500 dollar phone. I did the math and accepted. However, When I got home, I looked into Ausrion and I would have to cover $200 dollars of a deductible. I only bought the phone for $200 dollars. It's cheaper if i just bought the phone again than pay an extra $6 dollar a month for god knows how long. I cancelled immediately.

If only he knew how much more expensive phones are today and how much more of a ripoff these warranties are. I ran a sprint store and I would never buy it. Monthly payments and still a deductible and you almost pay the full cost of the phone twice.

New phones are waterproof these days. cost to put a new screen is less and less each year. much lower than insurance and you can find your phone if you loose it with find my iphone or google. So why get insurance unless you completely demolish your phone you dont need insurance. put on a screen protector and a speck case and your good to go and make shure you have a security pin code in case it gets stolen. end of story.

I have a two year old Maytag refrigerator and half of the LED lights don’t work. I had their service company come and they couldn’t fix it saying a wire somewhere in the fridge caused it. It was over a year old so it wasn’t covered and I didn’t have an extended warranty.d

I currently work for Verizon (1 year) and another carrier for 4 years. Dave is so far off, you should skip this video entirely. First, Verizon is not the insurance provider, they are paid to sell another companies product (Assurion). All phones Verizon sell have at least 12 month warranty but lost/stolen/damaged is your fault.. It is no different than car insurance.. how do people not understand this by now? People complaining about contracts literally built the insurance/non subsidized phones market.

You know what this sounds like? This sounds like a little entitled person trying to get a new phone. Shame on Dave Ramsey for giving this type of advice. All this going to get him is a closed account and maybe the police call for business harassment. There are other ways to deal with rip off companies. Its talk to them and if that doesn't help than go to the better business bureau. Trust me Verizon will gain more than they will lose. Sorry for this but I have to call out bad advice.
