Warsaw - Then and Now [Kult America] 

Half of my relatives are Polish, they escaped from Warsaw during WWII. They came to Argentina where they got married, built their homes.. but they NEVER forgot Poland, especially Warsaw. The other half of my family escaped from France. They have told me so many stories about their lives !!!..I am very proud of my Polish roots. Warsaw may have changed but I LOVE HER. She's a BEAUTY.

Hotel Bristol was one of few remaining buildings still standing after the nazi cruel revenge after the Warsaw uprising. The reason why is because the Gestapo had there headquarters there. The rest has been magnificent rebuild by the Polish people!

what amazes me about warsaw is walking from 1 street to another its like going through a different time period, it all changes quickly, yet comparing photos of old with today some of it is much the same despite the damage done in the war, much of the destroyed buildings were rebuilt using old plans and paintings some which go back to the 18th century. yet warsaw is a vibrant modern city, with very clean, inexpensive and efficient transport system. so far its the most interesting european city i have visited, been twice and hope to go more in future.

It wasn't the time that changed Warsaw, it was World War II. Before the Second World War Warsaw was a very beautiful city.

1'50 : Château Royal de Varsovie : reconstruction intégrale de cet édifice emblématique de la capitale polonaise, entièrement rasé par la guerre. Heureusement beaucoup de collections, objets d'art, boiseries d'origine ont pu y reprendre place après la reconstruction des années 70 ! Le pouvoir soviétique a longtemps "vu d'un mauvais œil" la reconstruction d'un édifice associé au passé monarchique de la Pologne. On a restitué 2 tourelles d'angle (déjà disparues avant la Guerre). Des toiles de Canaletto (18 ème s.) ont également guidé la restauration des quartiers anciens de Varsovie.

It is good that the Polish people has faithfully restored their heritage buildings. Manila which also suffered the same fate built buildings which are not the exact replica of the buildings before World War II. It is sad to say that people start to value the importance of heritage buildings once they're gone.

90 percent of Warsaw was destroyed in 1939 itself. The rebuilding of Warsaw had two factors. After Soviet troops liberated Warsaw, 1. Civilians were moving into destroyed Warsaw which was incinerated. 2) Stalin insisted that Warsaw be rebuilt. Stalub refusef to let Polush lawmakers move the capital to Lodz which was mostly intact. Stalin convened a meeting of only Polish speaking people on how to redesign and rebuild Warsaw from 1945. They told Soviet engineers and construction workers how the building needs to be rebuilt. Soviet engineers and Polish construction workers rebuilt both Stalingrad and Warsaw at the same time taking local ordinary citizens feelings into consideration in both cities. The historical buildings were rebuilt based on new internal layout of buildings and original external building designs designed by Polish workersb Soviet civil engineers and Soviet soldiers cum construction workers. Now Ordinary Poles say Poles had a big say on how Soviet cibil engineers and Polish construction workers and Soviet soldiers with some knowledge of conztruction will all collaborate to rebuild Warsaw. Reason for Soviets clamoring for rebuilding of Warsaw i a hurry:: 1. Ordinary Poles wanted revenge. Soviets said all ww2 Germans had already joined various communist parties after memorizing a few facts on Karl Marx, founder of communism. Poles say that since they were deprived of lynching Nazi German prisoners of war, they will next focus on declaring that ethnic Russians were the common enemy of everyone in Poland. Poles of ww2 era say Soviets deprived them of lynching Nazis for the near complete destruction of Warsaw in 1939 itself.

Zachodnia Polska to miejsce skąd pochodzi Polska!!! a ty praktycznie ją pomijasz w swoich materiałach!!! zrobiłeś choć jeden materiał z Poznania??? Polska nie pochodzi z kresów wschodnich, nie z Podkarpacia, nie z Rzeszowa, nie zza Wisły. To nawet na początku nie była Polska. Dopiero jakiś mało rozgarnięty król, zamiast skopać dupę Niemcom i zatrzymać germański podbój słowiańskich ziem, wolał pójść na łatwiznę i podbić głupich jełopów ze wschodu. Pamiętaj, że w tamtych czasach całe dzisiejsze wschodnie Niemcy to były słowiańskie ziemie zagrożone przez Ottonów, a on wolał iść na wschód po to co nie zagrożone. Całą historię Polski mamy ten hamulec ze sobą. Wszystkie nieudane powstania wschód, jedyne udane zachód. Skąd pochodziły największe rody magnackie? Ze wschodu. I co robiły? Prowadziły własną politykę, z reguły sprzeczną z interesem Polski. Ojcowie założyciele Polski byli Poznaniakami, nie Warszawiakami, czy Krakusami. Upadek Polski to chwila gdy przeniesiono stolice z Krakowa do Warszawy. Na efekt trzeba poczekać ale mniej więcej w tym okresie rozpoczął się upadek Korony. Cholerna wschodnia szlachta ciągle coś spiskowała. Dziś zresztą jest podobnie, większość polityków jest z Mazowsza, Małopolski i ściany wschodniej. Czekam, aż się zrehabilitujesz i zaczniesz nagrywać materiały o kolebce Polski. Ostrów Lednicki, Gniezno, Poznań (Ostrów, Katedra, Ratusz, Fara, Zamek Królewski i Zamek Cesarski, Malta, Targi i ich historia), Biskupin (choć to kultura Łużycka), Leszno (mało tak małych miast ma tak bogatą historię), miasto stołeczne Mosina (stolica Rzeczypospolitej Mosińskiej), Bydgoszcz, Wolsztyn, Żnin, Strzelin, Kruszwicę, Trzemeszno, Września (Dzieci Wrzesińskie i wóz Drzymały), Kórnik, Puszczykowo (najpiękniejsze miasteczko w Polsce, super lody od lat 50tych!!! i Park Narodowy), zaraz obok masz Rogalin z jego dębami (gdzie Lech, Czech i Rus, bracia podzielili ziemie Słowian). Wielkopolska może nie Mazury ale też ma masę pięknych jezior (na jednym z nich hrabia Edward Raczyński popełnił samobójstwo armatą). O ziemiach odzyskanych też można powiedzieć bardzo wiele dobrego i są godne choć jednego odcinka. Polskie wybrzeże to nie tylko Gdańsk, Sopot, Hel... to tylko najbardziej komercyjne miejscówki. Polskie góry to przede wszystkim nie tylko Zakopane. Gdyby tak było omijałbym je wielkim łukiem jak Disneyland, a kocham je całym sercem. Byłeś w Sudetach? Te góry są jak z bajki, a do tego masz masę cudownych poniemieckich schronisk z polską duszą. Mógłbym wymieniać cudowne miejsca w Polsce jeszcze godzinami, a nie przekroczyłbym Wisły. Polska to nie tylko te rozreklamowane miasta jak Kraków i Warszawa, ba Polska to przede wszystkim nie Kraków i Warszawa. Większość Polaków brzydzi się Warszawą, a ty się nią podniecasz, może to kiedyś zrozumiesz. Polska to też nie drogie restauracje i degustacje polskich smaków, Polska to Bary Mleczne. Bar Mleczny to tradycja i bardzo ciekawa historia idei. Pokaż prawdziwą Polskę.
