@@RoyalFusilier343 has a terrible track record of making these huge plots that simultaneously don’t have the content needed to meaningfully fill them and don’t get enough time to resolve them in the game. Halo 5 begins and ends outside of the game. It’s terrible storytelling.

@@KalleNoble They were pretty desperate to make everyone like the weapon, so it's very likely. What pisses me off is how many people fell for it. It was so blatantly obvious. And the fact that everyone wanted things to go "back to the way they were" just proves how unimaginitive halo fans can be sometimes. Cortana being evil was clearly meant to have a redemption ark. I no longer play Destiny 2 - I am having too much fun playing all the 'good quality' games I missed out on while I was a 'slave' to the Destiny 2/Bungie forever grind machine. Bungie management quote that sums up so much. "We would rather put out four pieces of 5/10 content per year, than one piece of 10/10 content per year." So, Destiny players know that mediocre content is the business model for Bungie. How good is that? Bungie are corporate whiners that have a factory mentality, their business model is all about logistics/costs/time. Wow, that's not a recipe for fun times for players. Keep grinding lads the Bungie machine needs to be fed.

Activision basically had them change up their game to fit their vision. Game launched then they had to work on a ton of dlc this caused bungie employees to leave left and right and Activision kept replacing em. Destiny 2 launched and old bungie employees were becoming an endangered species and by forsaken basically all of old bungie was gone and replaced. The bungie of now is basically just a child of Activision that split off wearing the name and skin of Bungie.

A bigger campaign with more of the covenant from firefight would've probably made the campaign more enjoyable if they included more levels and removed some of the unnecessary ones. Might be a controversial take but it's one of the more memorable MP experiences I've had in the last 5+ years.

Not that 4 was a masterpiece of storytelling but the Cortana rampancy thread culminating in her protecting Chief after years and years of Chief doing the same for her was nice and a good sendoff of the character. Does Infinite expand upon it at all?

in a word yes but its rough its just obvious they needed to write around this plot thread so its a compromised resolution more detail bellow read more in short all the cortana stuff in infinite is flashback/recording style on something that happened off screen and we find out only in bits and pieces as we get through the campaign, she kinda gets a do over to go back to her halo 4 ending that she does need to protect the chief but its not elegant and ultimately proves that bringing her back in 5 was a mistake theres a new AI called the weapon and the weapon is an exact copy of cortana created by halsey but the weapon doesnt know that (which becomes relavent to the weapons character arc) and theres this friction that comes from the weapon being chiefs new AI and chief being unwilling to trust the new AI after what happened with cortana the camapign overall is trying to soft reboot the franchize and is very modern take of Halo CE vibe thing but it has a rough spots as a result of all the crap that came before that didnt work needing to be paid lip service
@deifiedtitan
@deifiedtitan 10 месяцев назад
It doesn’t. You see Chief coming to terms with it via The Weapon (literally just a new Cortana). Cortana is defeated offscreen before the game happens. Infinite isn’t a bad game, as it stands. It’s just got enough assets for 3 levels that it stretched over a meaningless open world. The core gameplay of Infinite is genuinely good and if they introduced a new biome after the first couple of hours rather than expecting us to care about Escharum over and over again it could’ve been great.

something that's always bugged me is that the prologue cutscene they added to halo 2 anniversary is really peculiar in that a lot of it is from an "in-progress" version of 5 like all the elites have their H2A/classic designs, including the arbiter (despite him being turned into one of the new elite subspecies in 5), and one of locke's spartan buddies is a completely different character with a unique design, they even hint at a different plot for the most part, it's just weird to me that they'd seemingly have every bit of promo material from a part of the game that was eventually scrapped or rewritten entirely

They did that in H2A's opening and outro cutscenes because those were the assets Blur had on station for rendering. It's the same reason the Marines in H2A's cutscenes have the exact same armor and weapons as the Marines in Halo Wars and Halo Wars 2. If you watch carefully, you'll notice in HW2 that they only show the Battle Rifle, H2 Magnum, and Shotgun. Aside from the Banished weapons and new character designs, it was almost all just reused H2A and HW1 assets.

The trailers for 5 were litterally going to be false advertising because the story never actually called for Locke and chief to fight at all They had to add that fight scene in for legal reasons so they wouldn't get sued by angry players but it still turned out like shit because blue team goes through the portal and Osiris just sits there like "now what?" It would have been better for blue team and Osiris to just duke it out there 4v4 but nope cause that would be too much animation time for a scene that wasn't supposed to be in the game Maybe it was planned to but it never needed it and ended up being forced

the Osiris spartans had a decent amount of characterization in the allied spartans' combat barks... which you never hear, because 343i couldn't figure out how to implement radio for it, so if your spartans travel away from you on these massive levels that encourage you to climb up really high, then you can't hear them at all even when the chatter in question is gameplay-relevant, like when a squadmate goes down and needs a revive anyway buck and vale had some endearing combat barks that hint at more about them. vale, for example, has combat barks that wouldn't sound out of place coming from an elite. she's not just the group's translator; she's like a weeb for sangheili, and the idea, at least, is adorable

I personally think evil cortana could have been great, especially if masterchief spent an entire game chasing after her and trying to talk her out of it, only to realize that the real cortana is really dead, and that the evil cortana is just an overgrown subroutine, a remnant, a pale imitation. it could have had a powerful message about moving on from loss and the falacies of obcessing over the legacy of a dead loved one. Relatedly I also take no issue with Masterchief passing the torch, but it needs to be well explored, as there is tons of fertile ground in a living superweapon who saved humanity multiple times having to learn to let go, both of the comrades and friends he lost, and of the constant suicide missions that once gave him purpose

@Bizargh
@Bizargh 10 месяцев назад
Technically, it came back as part of Cortana's theme for Halo: Reach ('Say The Words', or 'Keep What You Steal' as it was heard in Halo 3, but I think Martin O'Donnell had his name for it that I can't relocate, even in the archived Inception videos) & ODST had Combat Evolved's 'Rock Anthem for Saving the World' hidden as part of the 'Deja Vu' Vidmaster Achievement/Challenge. Halo 4 did get a cover of 'Never Forget' in the form of 'Never Forget (Midnight Version)' arranged by Kazuma Jinnouchi for the Staff Credits (Which have not survived into The Master Chief Collection), but I don't believe that contains the Halo theme itself. Again, technically. Unfortunately, I don't see it as a plus in Halo 5: Guardians' favour, as if the only defining moment of the game's soundtrack is "We did Marty & Mike's beloved theme", that speaks rather unfavourably about the rest of the game's original music, although I do get why many would feel that way. Take it on an individual track basis, I'd say the music can be good in it's own right (A proper shame 'On Deck' was siphoned off as a digital bonus that I don't think has ever come back via current releases, 'cause that's about the only sincere delight Warzone Firefight ever gave me), but taken as a whole, it can be one repetitious beast (Lucas Raycevick's 'Halo 5: Guardians - One Year Later' does a better job speaking on my behalf). I don't necessarily blame composer Kazuma Jinnouchi for it, either. From what was reported about the Campaign's development cycle, it just sounds like he might have had nothing more than vague or general ideas to work with, assuming they didn't change on the fly or that he wasn't simply told "Just throw a string orchestra at *everything* as that's what Halo's music is, isn't it??". Although I for one actually have a lot of appreciation for some of Neil Davidge's work on Halo 4 ('Requiem', 'For Armour', 'Arrival' & 'Green and Blue' such examples), you can't deny that Kazuma Jinnouchi was absolutely standing out with such pieces as 'Mantis' & '117', so while I can't pinpoint Kazuma Jinnouchi's prior works (I do recall that he was among the Metal Gear Solid 4 & Peace Walker music teams), I do not believe it was due to a lack of talent nor imagination that his work on Halo 5: Guardians suffered in terms of distinction or character (I think I only bought the soundtrack as 'Blue Team' included the tearjerker from the initial scene of Halo 4's Epilogue, which was also confirmed to be a Kazuma Jinnouchi composition). I'm honestly not trying to rain on your parade, though. For all that the Halo 5: Guardians Campaign missed the mark on, it didn't stop Kazuma Jinnouchi & the performers of the Orchestras from giving Martin O'Donnell & Michael Salvatori's work some honourable arrangements.

I finished recently and it wasn't like, the worst game ever made. It's not my favorite campaign or anything but it had a couple moments. Being able to see Sangheilios in-game was cool and I liked sunaion. It was also neat seeing blue team in the game even if it was only for like 3 missions Tbh I'm a lore hound now so I liked the references to stuff but i get criticisms about halo 5 kinda needing it

If you ever go back into 5 on Legendary, keep in mind you can assassinate the Warden: During his final bit of health, he widens his stance and draws a new sword. During this animation, or anytime after, you can assassinate him to save some bullets. 3 animations: Standard: On the ground, hold melee: Dash past the Warden, spinning him around then use him as a meatshield and repeatedly stab. Very high cover doing so, because Warden is so big Aerial: Jump or fall onto his back while holding melee: Roots the Warden in place, using him as cover and delivering multiple stabs. Longest animation for him to actually "die" to Alternate: When near a ledge, slope or cliff and the game deems the angle is worthy, whilst holding melee: Break the Warden's leg, jump up and plunge the knife, ending the fight instantly. Shortest animation to register his death (Literally 1.5 seconds after you drop off his body he dies) Will save you ~2 clips of standard weapon, 1 clip of power weapon ammo on average. Do NOT use a Binary rifle against Warden, doing so causes a glitch that makes him have a "forcefield" that rapidly damages and pushes you back because 343 makes perfect games!

Funny enough Halo 5 has my most hours played and holds a special place in my heart. It was the first Halo game I ever owned myself (grew up playing the classics with friends in split screen) and my first Xbox I got the Halo 5 SE Xbox one that I saved up my own money for. It was a huge accomplishment for me and a big part of my childhood.

One thing I definitely disliked the most was as you mentioned, if you didn’t read a book or watch or play something else, you have no idea what’s going on and it really takes you out of the story and makes you less invested. The original trilogy was a complete story. From beginning to end you knew what was going on as it’s a direct continuation and if you wanted to know more about a certain part you could do that with books

Halo 5's campaign was a good idea but it was just so poorly executed and without checking out the expanded lore of Halo it gets very confusing while the latter issue didn't affect me as I usually check out expanded lore I'm just speaking on behalf of those who don't... thanks a lot Brian Reed (Halo 5 Lead Writer). "I can't imagine what it's like on Legendary." Oh believe me Frog I went there when I beat this on Legendary back in 2019, I died so many times during that fight that I lost count.
@Will_Forge

I did the same. Never played the game before. Finally went into it on Legendary in preparation for Infinite. Shit was a slog. The AI is what killed it for me. From shitty enemy AI that feels just lame to fight like the soldiers and prowlers, to the ally AI that doesn't even have a Nav-Mesh as complete as the same enemies mentioned before. The enemy jumps up to a slightly higher rock you're on and downs you. Then your allies have to revive you because that was a mechanic they decided to add for no reason. Then your allies can't reach you because they can't also jump up onto the same slightly higher rock? Terrible. Just truly awful. I only enjoyed the first MC missions, and then hated every other one as they had increasingly terrible AI encounters. Warden Eternal was just a dingleberry on the top of that shit sundae.
@Will_Forge
@Will_Forge 10 месяцев назад
Oh right, I typically forget to mention one heavy critique I have about the game, so I'll add it here. The campaign was written as a chase, and then a rush to save everyone, which means from start to finish you're always narratively hurried along. This is a very fine way of storytelling, but there was an issue. To encourage this, by the way, the characters in the game are made to constantly run behind the scene timers that the moment you don't get to the next objective they will chime in with an annoying little reminder "we gotta get to the [blank] before [blank] [blanks] the [blank]". Again, this is a mechanic that has been known to be annoying since the day Navi first said "Hey, listen!" in Ocarina of Time. But again, just a minor annoyance and a fine way of trying to rush the player along in a game that's meant to be a race to save the world. The issue comes into play the moment they took the Halo formula's 1 secret item on each mission, 1 terminal, 1 or 2 data pads, and expanded it to 5+ hidden items! Why in the name of good game design/writing would you every add more exploration to a game that you yourself you wrote to be a rush of a story? Why would you then add in a mechanic that annoys you the moment you spend 15 seconds not heading to the next objective!? It's just bind numbingly stupid! The game designers that made that game were amateur hour, and this coming from someone who isn't even a professional myself! Sorry, that one is one that strikes a nerve due to how often the characters nag. Just thinking about it makes me want to chew the lead designers out.

A fun fact: As my first time playing Halo 2 was Co-op, Player 1 & me both missed out on The Heretic & The Armoury, so that was effectively our introduction to Arbiter. Nevertheless, we still got his meeting in The Mausoleum before we later realised what we had missed, so it still wasn't as abrupt as anything Halo 5: Guardians throws at you. And speaking as somebody who did invest in the additional media heavily until some time after Halo 4 (I began to stop caring after then, particularly as it's use of it as excuses for business, PR or design decisions became far more obvious), even I was left puzzled by some things such as "Wait, why is Buck a Spartan?" (I got told about the book and bloody hell, no amount of course correction that it got is going to make me want to), "Who are these two ladies in Fireteam Osiris?" (Vale at least had an interesting biography from the outset) and "You're just going to wrap up Spartan Ops right here & now?", especially as early prototypes showcased a Fireteam Osiris without Buck, almost hinting that maybe the Recruit-armour-wearing Thorne from Spartan Ops might be the familiar face and that they either were "Pulling an Arbiter" or they late-in-development felt the sudden need to service fans (And if you ask me, they shouldn't have even bothered considering that H5:G gives Nathan Fillion far too few opportunities at best to inject any amount of personality into his role). I remember thinking about the 'Waste of Time Filler' missions as taking a page out of Wolfenstein: The New Order's in-between mission safehouse moments (The game had released more than a year prior to surprising critical acclaim), but there are reasons why I got emotionally attached to those whereas I reckon Halo 5: Guardians just does nothing more than waste your time: - Wolfenstein: The New Order uses it as relief from missions that can be very intensive (At least thanks to Mick Gordon's music) if not lengthy due to how quiet or loud you may play them. Unless you're playing Halo 5: Guardians above Normal, you probably don't need that - Wolfenstein: The New Order uses them as time for you to get to know it's cast & the outside world, if not tell smaller stories within them. Halo 5: Guardians mostly just uses it to tell a few cheap or even rotten jokes (The 'Do Not Open' audio log is one such case of "This could've been hilarious if the writers actually knew the audience for this joke or 343 Industries wasn't trying to so densely force upon appeal for the relevant character that did not exist largely by design") if not make a few references - Wolfenstein: The New Order hides various secrets, including a whole Wolfenstein 3D level in the form of a "nightmare". As far as I am aware, Halo 5: Guardians just has Audio Logs & the aforementioned jokes to find in them (I'm told more "Mythic" weapons can be found, so perhaps my dissatisfaction with Halo 5: Guardians, even after two Co-op playthroughs with two friends, just lead me to not bother "trinket-hunting", especially as what trinkets I did find could even end up discouraging me from bothering). It's a lot of bother over them, perhaps, but coming off of something that did so much for me, it just perhaps boggled my mind that Halo 5: Guardians couldn't do more with them than to make me & those I played it with mostly just mock it. I do concede that Wolfenstein: The New Order doesn't give you much options of skipping them besides "Just do the primary objective", but I think they earn their place far more sincerely than Halo 5: Guardians manages to. I've often said that while Halo 4 is something of a mixed bag across the board, Halo 5: Guardians has unmissable sections of quality where you can see where the developmental priorities lied. And I'm sure this is something of a tiresome verdict, but the Campaign ended up close to the bottom of the list (Maybe Theater got the actual bottom of that list), especially as there are reports that the direction for it never largely came together to the point that even the soundtrack suffered as a result (I think the short version is that those originally on the Spartan Ops team had to take over after departures of staff key to Halo 4's direction, and composer Kazuma Jinnouchi may simply not have had clear-cut material to make anything as characteristic & distinctive as he managed for Halo 4 with such companions to Neil Davidge's work as 'Mantis' & '117'). Very long story short; Halo 5: Guardians has a Campaign I call "frustratingly bland".

@@bruhgod123 Halo reach launched and people found it a downgrade in quality so it was hated. Halo 4 launched and took what made Reach good and threw it out while keeping the bad so 4 became the worst and Reach was now a decent game. Halo 5 came out and took what made 4 bad and made it worse and took the good and threw it out so people now looked at 4 as a decent game and 5 as the worst. Infinite came out and people initially loved the initial promise and it took what made 5 good and kinda kept it and took the bad and seemed to be throwing it out.....Only for people to now want the bad from Halo 5 because somehow just like Activision with Overwatch they made the req packs (Loot boxes) look better than the new f2p micro hell. Btw they keep increasing the price whenever they listen to the community. Community asked for cross core and they said "Alright....But in return any item added to cross core will be increased in price!" with an armor set almost being a full price game at this point (About 30 dollars where I live for an armor and 60 for a game) and the bundles being almost 100 dollars. They somehow make Destiny 2 look less greedy and hell the original plan was to do a yearly PAID dlc just like Destiny they only stopped because they didn't have the resources to do so and believed in the original vision they had with 5 in that Halo should be competitive and so they focused all their effort onto the pvp. Also the operations are so annoying. A single buy season pass where buying 1 gets you all of them was fine still annoying with the fact it takes about 200 matches to complete a season but whatever I guess but the new "Operation" passes are literally the same price for less content and you don't get enough for another pass as far as I can tell (I think you get half of your stuff back meaning you need to buy 2 to get 1) btw these are temporary meaning if you don't buy them they're gone forever. You know the one thing they had over D2 being that fomo with seasons wasn't going to be a thing like how they did with mcc. Now it's fomo.

Halo 5 + Amazing gameplay + Beautiful graphics that hold up to this day + Very polished + The gunplay is probably the best in the series - The story (my god...) - It's too short - Locke is.. well, Locke - The emphasis on co-op. Why waste energy and resources on it and not make a longer and more compelling story? The game is a product of its time, when Xbox made a lot of strange and outright bad decisions, and it shows. But the game is still a lot of fun and has a lot of good qualities, despite the (HUGE!!!) flaws. I would give it a 3/5, or 6/10.

My biggest gripe with Halo 5's campaign is the fact that if Master Chief just decided to go to a planet on his own orders, what is the UNSC/ONI going to do, stop him? He's done more for the entirety of humanity than the entirety of humanity and honestly deserved some time to himself, especially when the man who Chief saved as a Cadet sends other unreliable Spartans to kill the man that saved him. Chief also seems to have a lot more freedom of movement in the UNSC and the military so Chief just visiting a planet because he thinks Cortana is there is well within that freedom of movement he has.
@Specter_1125
@Specter_1125 4 месяца назад
Chief doesn’t actually have that much freedom of movement in the grand scheme of things. When he’s boots on the ground, he has a large degree of autonomy, but other than that, not really. If he’s on the deck of a UNSC ship, he’s supposed to do what he’s told.

Being a long time Halo fan, I've had this conversation multiple times with many friends and random gamers over the years. Most people have at least two of three issues with playing as Locke: 1. It's a mainline Halo game (not a spinoff like Reach and ODST), so it should be focused on Chief. 2. You play as Locke for a whopping 12/15 missions. They should've done something closer to an even split like Halo 2 did. 3. Like you said, Locke (and tbh all of Fireteam Osiris minus Buck) is boring. Couple that with the marketing that makes him look awesome and it's an even bigger let down. If the last two of these three issues were fixed, people would still complain as Halo fans are known for doing, but it'd be much less so than what we ended up with.

I actually had really liked the story and finale of Spartan Ops and was really excited to see them continue that in Halo 5. Then...it's immediately wrapped up and completely insignificant after the first mission. The fact that *none* of the spartan characters were used from that series as the squadmates was also just a huge miss, especially when they were setting up Thorne to have that 'spartan ideology.' It could've been interesting to see him bounce off Osiris, and just created more interesting scenarios than the complete lack of any interactions. Buck was a cool ODST character to and he was just completely under-utilized, I don't care if he's a Spartan now the guy was just there as the punching bag/goof ball, it was so sad ;n;. The first two missions were like introduction scenes without any substance. They brought forward the two teams but really establish very little. Having Team Majestic (the spartan op team) work parallel to Osiris and effectively mission 3 being the first could've made the Chief's actions mysterious and secondarly given that awkward slap fight a bit more meaning as the extra spartans from Majestic and even Osiris could've split up and we get tenser, character driven interactions between the now split groups of spartans. I wasn't a fan of Halo 5 if you can't tell lol.

I think the issue with the examples you gave of not playing as chief in other games is the fact that 2 of the 3 of those games were spin offs and never advertised playing as chief. As for 2, the game still gives a 50/50 mix of playing Arbiter to Chief and intertwine their stories better than Chiefs story with Locke, but to be fair that last point is just a subjective opinion.

I was late to the halos franchise but I heard about how much everyone hated halo 5. Than I played it and actually liked it? I did, and still do. Most of the hate towards the game seems to come down to petty fans. Though I wasn’t there for the false advertising, I’ve seen it and frankly I think it’s time everyone got tf over it. The game itself is fun, the story is a bit messy and the walking around and talking to people levels is completely pointless, but other then that I had a good time with it. There were definitely things that could have been improved about the story. Locke for one thing, there’s nothing bad about him, he just needed a real character ark. If he had been introduced in halo 4 as a minor character it greatly would have benefited his character. Warden Eternal still has tons of potential as a character and I genuinely enjoyed the boss fights because he fascinated me, so I tried to get as much dialogue out of him as possible to figure out what his deal was. He acts like Cortana’s overprotective dad but I felt there was more to him. Halo infinite introduced the endless and I was sure Warden was some of them, and he might even appear in infinite maybe as an ally against them but I’m not surprised that he didn’t. Cortana was easy to fix. I had no problem with her being evil in Halo 5 as I assumed she was being manipulated by some other force in the domain like Mendicant Bies and that Cortana would be redeemed but halo infinite decided to off her in the lamest way possible instead.

After playing through all the games for the first time, all in co-op, I think 5 gets a lot more hate than it deserves. The story is nonsensical, but that impacts you less in co-op. The game really does shine in its level design and it's gameplay, it's a lot of fun! Personally, I really enjoyed the warden encounters and was almost left wanting more of them. They essentially felt like hunters but their weak point was even more vulnerable. When you think of them as an enemy rather than a boss I think it's easier to understand what they were trying to do with them

@@PANCAKEMINEZZ It's possible they're no fun to fight in singleplayer, but co-op they were the most unique, interesting enemy in the game imo lol

@@Keanine Then the game should have launched with split screen co-op. Personally I only played it in the month prior to Infinite and in single player, and my usual I started on Legendary. And I completely disagree with all your points except that the story was nonsensical. 😆

@@Will_Forge I won't disagree there, the fact it doesn't have split-screen is definitely something I should have mentioned and pissed me off big time. I had to use Game Pass to stream it to my PC so I could play with someone in the room next to me. Absolutely awful

Halo 5 was the first game I ever played on my Xbox when I was 11 and I loved it, sure the game may be lacking in story but it was just FUN and that’s what really mattered to me. Now that I have played all of the halo games including infinite I can say that it was the worst but I still think it’s a cool game and I still love it no matter how stupid it is. (Also the Arbiters armor was awesome and one of the best variations IMO).

Honestly I enjoyed halo 5, I even found the idea of evil Cortana very interesting (altough doing it in the game immediately after 4 is wild) The only *slight* problem I had with it was that when I reached the end I felt like I was in the middle of the game rather that at the actual end of it. The disappointment I felt was enormous, you went through all the trouble of making an admittedly extremely bold villain arch for a beloved character only to solve it off screen and to introduce the main antagonist of you're next game in a random strategy game that 90% of your playerbase will not play? I mean I get halo wars is technically the origin of the whole halo franchise, but it's the fps people love The way they managed the lore in-between 5 and infinite was absolutely awful

Halo 5 as a whole wasnt as bad to me as people make it out to be. Unfortunately the campaign wasnt that good but it did some things well. What i did really like was the multiplayer and it was one of my favorite. I met many online friends on it and remebering infection gives me nostalgia. Hopefully they fix infinite a bit more

Hey what are your thoughts on Cortana becoming evil? In my opinion it's the worst decision 343 has ever made but I just wanna know your thoughts.

H5 Cortana, or the way they resolved her plot in Infinite? I know I'm not the frog, but IMO they did fine enough in H5, but did actual good in Infinite. IMO H5's plot would have been more interesting if that Cortana was one of her partial copies from Halo CE left behind on that destroyed ring. It gained access to the Domain, and used an incomplete upload of the actual Cortana to make itself whole again when she tried to escape into the domain in H4 just before saving MC. This would let them have her behave in as many rampant and unexpected ways as they wanted without having to claim that she's actually cured of rampancy and just has always been this murderous dictator by nature that we've never seen before. The Ai that used to willingly stay behind to sacrifice herself for the greater good has been cured of rampancy and yet also decided that mass extinction events are in fact good and she should be the supreme dictator? Yeah, no she's still rampant. But this fragment story I think is much more interesting than what they wrote. But anyway, MC's hand was literally on that nuke, and yet somehow he was saved by being put into a 15 foot diameter sphere hardlight energy shield that would have actually contained the blast exclusively to him instead? Let's just say 343i's writing surrounding Cortana has been shit since Halo 4, and I actually feel that The Weapon and the end of Cortana in Infinite is finally a solution by laying her to bed for good. Assuming in Infinite that's actually The Weapon and not Cortana in disguise, which I wouldn't put past the previous 343i writers to pull out of left field in a novel at the very least. Then we'd see Halo 7 come out with Cortana mysteriously returned and no explanation. I don't actually think this is what's in store because 343i and Infinite has a much better writing team than H4 and H5, and The Weapon is a really good new direction to take, but damn if I'm not trepidations after 4 and 5.

My biggest gripe with Locke is he was referred to as “Agent Locke” until Halo 5 launched and then he was “Spartan Locke.” During the advertising I was convinced that Locke was an ONI operative hunting down Chief and the game was going to go into a few story points about ONI and the Spartan II program (given Halsey at the beginning of Halo 4). Sadly the story was okay.
