Was Ichigo UNDERUSED in The Thousand-Year Blood War Arc? | Bleach DISCUSSION

I feel like Ichigo wasn't really missing in the story, but he could have had better, more defining moments.

How it felt like to me: Ichigo starts off well, but then goes missing THE ENTIRE TIME until the very last moments, and when he does show up with awesome improved power he gets absolutely destroyed. End of. Wow, so amazing.

Tommo , you really need to talk about how poorly the ishida family was handled in the final arc . Uryu , ryuken and souken all were done really bad by kubo .

i dont think so, ichigo has spent the entitire series being manipulated to fight in some way or shape or form, so its nice to see the soul society have battles against the quinces more since they re respective domains hate each other, ichigo's man focus should be killing the guy that killed his mother rather then fight a bunch of quinces that would probbaly be filler battles since ichigo could of killed all of them quite easily

One of my favourite things about Bleach is the heavier focus on characters who aren't the MC. It doesn't happen to this degree very often in manga.

Ichigo probably got more character development in the TYBW than any other arc in the series, overcoming the guilt of his mother's death. So in that way he had a lot to do. I don't think he needed a rival because Yhwach was his rival in a sense. The antagonist who Ichigo has personal enmity with. The battle with Yhwach just needed to be much longer. Which I'm sure was Kubo's original intention, as he spent the longest break of the series (5 weeks) planning Ichigo vs Yhwach. And I don't think Ichigo should've had an actual fight with Uryu. Uryu being set up as a rival was a fake out to reaffirm Ichigo and Uryu's friendship and show Uryu's development, and to contrast with Jugram and Bazz-B.

Of course it has been underused! -The fight against Oppie begins but he withdraws and is imprisoned -The fight with ywach begins but the latter retires and ichigo remains with the broken sword .. -The training with ichibei is not seen -The 1 vs 4 battle is interrupted by another 4 quincys -the hypothetical battle 1 vs 8 does not take place because ichigo withdraws from ywach -the battle against Askin is not seen and in any case ichigo is instantly defeated. -the final battle against Ywach ichigo loses - The "true bankai" is seen only for a moment and then it is broken and some of his powers are taken away. In this saga ichigo does not win any 1 vs 1 battles

I think the narrative problem with Ichigo is that once he gets his true shikai he was too strong for any of the Quincey to put up a fight against him, the only exception is the final 4 Quincy but they had to go to the captains to explain why they didn't go help against ywach. I mean he did face off against 8 sterritter without any problem, he took no damage from their attacks and one swing nearly killed candice, can you imagine the kind of slaughter it would be if he actually fought them?

The vizards were supposed to be the saviors of this arc...but kubo really messed it up

It's weird, when you read TYBW it's all cool and shit and then suddenly it's over and you're like what the fuck and then realize oh shit this wasn't as good as I thought it was

I love the fact Naruto and Bleach had like the opposite problem for their main character getting screen time. Naruto probably had too much and made people sad that the side characters get forgotten. Ichigo however gets less while the side characters get more. That's why Naruto is called "Naruto" and Bleach is called Bleach. If your complaint is the main character not getting enough focus instead of too much, that's a good problem to have.

Ichigo is the MC but it really is an ensemble cast in Bleach, one of the things I’ve always loved about it. I think Ichigo’s involvement in the second battle suffered mostly from them rushing Kubo because he doesn’t have a fight in the last half of the arc and there really is no climax. Really interested to see what they do with the end in the anime. The Bambis played the role of the Lt’s on top of sokyoku hill, people for Ichigo to one shot to show his power up lol. And thanks for the panel of Shinji holding Hiyori’s torso, good times.

I feel Ichigo had his moment on the sun up until he gets his new Zangetsu, until then I would say he gets some of his best moments, but the second half of the arc made it feel like he was just there to win the final fight and nothing else. And that was disappointing, considering how much growth you feel around his character at this point you feel there is a lot of potential to showcase his growth, but we only see some bits here and there. I think a fight with Uryuu would definitely have helped, especially since later it is revealed (unsurprisingly) that he never turned against his friends, which would have fueled that fight on its emotional beats. But it didn't happen. Ichigo isn't everything about Bleach, for sure, but I feel he deserved more. And not only him, his friends too, Uryuu was criminally underused in an arc about his race, Orihime got something but not much and let's not even talk about Chad. It's kind of sad that all 4 got pretty much sidelined on an arc that could have exploited their growth and have been super emotional as these are the characters we have from the beginning. Instead, it feels Kubo really only cares about the shinigami, even more so the captains.

Yes he was. Vizards were overused tho. Overused as punching bags by kubo. Still dont know why he hates the vizards

My only problem was his match against the King himself. That's the only moment in which Ichigo alone should have had a bigger role, since I expected something more similar to Naruto vs Sasuke final battle. But overall, I see this as a positive. The vast majority of animes/manga do have multiple and interesting characters that basically do nothing because the main character has to save the day, with Dragon Ball and Naruto being great examples of that. It's nice to see that in in Bleach the world doesn't orbits a messiah style character that has to solve everything all by himself.

Ichigo was never missing to me because he isn't GOD. He can't be the person to do EVERYTHING in the story. The Captains and the Seireitei existed before him and they'll exist after him. Yes he is the main character but there are multiple other characters that are just as important and capable of handling danger. To just have one person do everything would not only diminish the roles of all other characters it diminishes the story. We are all the main characters in our own lives but think about how many things happen in our lives that directly influence us or are directly connected to us but we are indirectly involved in. Lots of important things happen in our own lives that we are not present for. That doesn't mean they are any less important because we aren't there.

His “screen time” could have probably been sufficient, but his impact was low because Kubo had him stalemated or outright beaten by antagonists of an objectively lower caliber than Yhwach himself. His pre-Royal Palace Fullbring-Bankai form had far more impact because he wiped the floor with two Sternritter, Quilge and Shaz, in a couple chapters and a single panel respectively. It was actually heartening to see Ichigo treated with a serious level of respect and/or fear during the first Invasion. But after his supposed upgrade, he didn’t take a single decisive win against the Sternritter, not once, even despite his clearly enhanced stats. KOMAMURA and YACHIRU got more Second Invasion wins than the MC, because Aizen and Uryu carried Ichigo through the last Yhwach fight.

Ichigo has always just been in the middle of things, despite it being his choice or not. Kubo did a really amazing job setting up the enviornment and character relationship, and bleach's story makes much more sense when you look at Ichigo as the result of Aizen's tampering. Aizen accidentally brought Ichigos parents together, so hes semi responsible for Ichigo's creation.

I think Ichigo takes too many L's in the final arc. He doesn't really even beat Yhwach in the end. The only moment I actually felt that Ichigo was a big + for the soul society was when he saved Kenpachi. In the two other mega arcs Ichigo climbed the hierarchy of Antagonists and we saw EXACTLY how he stacked up against them. Where the TYBWA had him either do a small skirmish or deliberate loss. If he would have had a proper fight against Hashwalth like you said, (perhaps before he jump yeeted back up to the soul kings palace) then I think it would have worked much better for me.

The problem was the rushing of the 2nd half when Ichigo came back from the Royal Palace. It was clear he was gonna have a proper fight or 2 against the Sternritter. I just wish Kubo could've taken a year off to rest, maybe that way he could've done all the things he intended. Hopefully he fixes things in the anime like Byakuya's death, Ukitake's death and the asspull of Nanao's sword to beat Lile Barro.

I think they really could have dived deep into the Ishida lore, and had Ichigo vs Uryu be not only a battle between friends, but also between two family histories and two races. Woulda been a really climactic fight.

I agree that there should have been more of a focus on Ichigo, since he is literally the protagonist. However, I do feel that this happens more generally and is a byproduct of having too many good guys to focus on. It could also purely be just a pacing issue, as we know that Kubo rushed to end the series.

I do think he was a bit underused in the final arc but it never really bothered me. The moments he was used were always great in my opinion

I think Ichigo was rightfully not focused on as much. Between Aizen and the Fullbringers, those arcs were pivoted directly around Ichigo. Aizen was proxy training him to fight at the full power of the Hyogouku, directing and planning every fight and competition he had. Then Ginjo wanted to use Ichigo to attain his full fulbring and use him to take out the Gotei because Ginjo was pissed after being betrayed by the Shinigami after what Tokinada and Jushiro did their parts and all that. The TYBW was the arc not focused on Ichigo. Ywach didn't care about him that much to the extent he would have killed him if Blut didn't activate. The Quincy wanted to destroy the Gotei, Ywach wanted Yama. Ichigo was just another Soul Reaper to Ywach. Yeah he was one of the war potentials along with Kenpachi and Aizen but that was a minor plot point after the second invasion began. It would have made the arc worse in my opinion of Ichigo was focused on as much as he was in the previous arcs. It's called The Thousand Year Blood War for a reason. It's the Gotei vs the Stern Ritter. Not Ichigo vs *input another evil organisation here*

I think Kubo had so many characters by the end that it was inevitable that certain ones weren't going to get highlighted to the same degree as others, so there was always a risk of fun or popular ones getting left behind as the story moved forward. I know I wanted to see more of Ichigo's new double sword/bankai powers getting used to kick ass, but alas.. Considering how rare duals swords were, apparently, it was extra exciting.

I became a fan of bleach through the anime about 4 years ago while recovering from shoulder surgery. However, I wasn't sure about the manga until I started watching your channel. I am now half way through the final arc. I never mind spoilers because it has only ever made me want to read it for myself. To the point now, so far where I'm at, I'm personally not upset with his showing thus far.

I agree with several of your points, but I would like to add that it makes Ichigo seem more real when he is not in every big fight in the series.

Would love a video discussing all the fodder characters that get introduced at the very beginning of the TYBWA. A great example being the 2 new shinigami ichigo and his friends save that just vanish after the first invasion.

The thing is he has developed so much and he was hyped up so much yet all what we get was little to almost nothing from that. I get what you mean and I totally agree ( about the fights and the whole war and other characters). In my opinion, all what needed was just one fight, show us his new arsenal his new powers( his full potential ) or keep the same events but spread his abilities between them. That’s what I believe was missing and that was the source of my disappointment.

Great video again mrtommo. As for ichigo's involvement in tybw arc I don't think he's as involved as much as a main character probably should be and I don't think that's a bad thing. At the end of the day it's a war so battles will be happening all over the place and some of the focus has to be placed on the other characters and let them have there big moments fans have waited for

I believe it's good for a MC to be hidden for the story, other characters and also for the status of the MC as a hero. MrTommo the thing is the arc had left out about 4 years of work but as you know Kubo's health started to deteriorate. But I do believe he will use his original plans.

Did Ichigo do enough? The real question is DID ISHIDA DO ENOUGH!!?

Ichigo could have definitely used a few more impactful lengthier fights during the TYBW Arc. His fight with Quilge Opie was a fine start and would be consider the Dordoni equivalent of the TYBW. His next fight, Round 1 vs Yhwach would have been the equivalent of Ichigo vs Aizen first encounter in Soul Society were Yhwach just decimates Ichigo until he start instinctively using Blut Vene allowing him to slightly keep up against Yhwach, this get him quite excited seeing Ichigo "Latent Ability" War Potential with his very eyes (currently not being able to see the future with his Almighty) and decides to capture him at that very moment until he stopped by the "Schatten Bereich" and is forced to withdraw leaving Haschwald to deal with him however he likes. Then we have Round 1 of Ichigo vs Haschwald were Jugram plays the role of Ulquiorra during his Round 1&2 fight (testing his Hollow powers but instead his awaken Quincy powers) and after a while ends the fight using The Balance to destroy his Bankai shocking Ichigo and safely retreats knowing he forcefully neutralized Ichigo from chasing them. After his training in the Royal Palace he saves Kenpachi and fights a Sternritter (could be other members) , in this case Candice and overwhelm her and then neutralizes the other Bambis. After which Bazz B arrives since all the Sternritter are after him since he is a War Potential and he gets a proper fight with him (The equivalent of Grimmjow invasion of Karakura Round 1 fight) That get interrupted when Yhwach makes he announcement to invade the Royal Palace. Ichigo attempts to stop Yhwach but Bazz B won't let him leave until Renji arrives to take his place were he ends up fighting Bazz B until the Auswählen ends their fight. Ichigo chases and the other 7 Sternritter arrives to stop him from reaching his Majesty and he successfully dodges/handles them until the Gotei 13 arrive to support him. Then we have Ichigo vs Yhwach Round 2 in the Royal Throne Room (Equivalent of Aizen Round 2 in Fake Karakura) were he eventually gets interrupted by Uryu while Yhwach fights the Right Hand of the Soul King (equivalent of Gin vs Ichigo Round 2 which is also fitting since his goal is to betray Yhwach) and then ends when Yhwach successfully defeats the Right Hand and Uryu breaks the floor to save Ichigo. Finally during the Wahrwelt portion of the arc, Ichigo tussles with the Schutzstaffel one by one attempting to stop him from reaching his Majesty but the Gotei 13 paved the way. He finally gets stopped by Haschwald currently holding The Almighty (who also has seen a glimpse of the future, aka the dream he gives to Yhwach) and ends up having a Round 2 with Ichigo and fights him, showcasing to Ichigo a portion of the Almighty power and preparing him for his eventual final fight with Yhwach (making the reveal of the true power of The Almighty much more impactful). Then Uryu arrives and betrays Haschwald and reveals to Ichigo that Yhwach is currently vulnerable since Haschwald has the Almighty and that he is just stalling time and tells him to go after Yhwach while he handles Haschwald. Eventually Ichigo doesn't make it in time and has his Round 3&4 against Yhwach as his final fight.

Well, even though we get a lot of Information explaining Ichigo's background (which is awsome), and a lot of time spent on preparing for final battle, Ichigo does not do much. I mean, he did kill the Yhwach, but it was really bleak and deus ex machine..... Now, his fight against "The Jail" is awsome moment, even though fight itself is not, then he is one shoted, then healed and trained, then he comes down to Soul Society, comes up to Royal Palace, has an unispiering fight against Almighty, and then he kills him. Yep, not much.......... actually, his role is very undramatic, if someone read only TYBW, he would be certain it was Kenpachi or Mayuri who is the main character.

I think it was a missed opportunity to have Grimmjow be forced into teaming up with Ichigo to fight one of the more powerful Sternritter like Haschwald or someone of that caliber. As cool as it was for Grimmjow to help Urahara, he should have been put into a position against a strong enemy that left the door open for an unlikely team up with Ichigo and it would have helped to close out their rivalry a bit.

I think that the problem a lot of fans had with Ichigo in the final arc was that we never really saw the full extent of Ichigos true Bankai. While we (finally) got to see the bankais of beloved characters like Urahara, Kenpachi and Kyoraku and their powers, Ichigos new Bankai was basically almost immediately destroyed by Ywach. I remember back when I was reading the chapter, I was so disappointed that after years of chapters and storyline we thought we'll finally got to see the MC true powers and then it didn't do anything. It would have been really epic if Ichigo had used his full hollow and quincy potential in the final battle against Yhwach.

I just wanted him fight at full power just once. Horn of Salvation, Bankai, trying his hardest.

Maybe ichigo can have a rival fight with uryu in the anime. Something that has some type of back story or dialog that leads to the arrow that stalled yuha. Im actually excited about the anime and hope they expand many fights and plot points.

Ichigoat never disappoints! But on another note I'd love more background/info/lore on the Shiba clan, fingers crossed we get something in the anime if not the Hell arc 🤞🏿

I think it's nice to see that Bleach has so many great characters that it's not necessary to focus on Ichigo most the time! I've read the TYBW arc when the manga was finished so I didn't wait for new chapter/volumes and could enjoy it in like one piece and with all this interesting fights and character development I didn't miss Ichigo. It's also a war between the Quincy and the Soul Society so I think it was good this way.

What was underused in this arc was the Arrancars, they were being made to follow the Quincys in this war, would've been cool to see a couple of Arrancar fights with the Soul Reapers and during the war, the Arrancars eventually betray the Quincys to join the Soul Reapers in their battle against their former masters. It would be nice since they were being heavily mistreated by them and could help with more Grimmjow and Nelliel exposure (Tier exposure would be nice but considering her state, I don't think we could get it)

I didn't feel so, really and since I like both main and supporting cast, I don't really care anyways. The involvement is enough for me and feels satisfactory. As you said, as much as I like him (he's actually my favorite MC out of ANY anime) , I too don't read Bleach just for Ichigo.

Looking back retroactively now I could say that I don't really mind that Ichigo isn't around as much this arc given the kind of story and the time-frame Kubo was working with. We already spent pretty much the entire time with him and barely anyone else in the Lost Agent arc.

It is fair to say that Kubo was being rushed to end this Arc , I believe if the Arc was not rushed it would've turned out better and more meaning to this Arc , I just hop the anime gives more detail to this Arc , because necessarily Kubo doesn't have to go by the manga he can actually go the way he wanted to but also give that same feel of characters in the final Arc and battles

I think he was used very well.. he was involved just the exact amount he was needed to not been shoved down our throats like most other shonen main protagonist.. I completely agree with how you finished the video

Like you alluded to, I think it speaks to the greatness of the side characters when Kubo can just allow them to their thing without Ichigo being around. It was great seeing the Gotei shine and not being pushed away like the side characters in other popular shonen

I know that in a lot of videos recently that you say how TYBW is just a better Fake Karakura arc, and what if when Aizen revealed that he was always using Kyoka Suigetsu when fighting the captains, all of the Espada that were dead/defeated, were shown to still be standing and in prime condition after everyone was worn down? I barely discovered your channel and I've been watching the more recent stuff so I don't know if you've floated this idea before. Apologies in advance if you have lol

I think it’s actually cool that Ichigo can have his fights, but the series isn’t totally reliant on him. Remember some of Byakuya’s supposed “last words” were “You shouldn’t even be here.” Meaning to me that this fight doesn’t _DIRECTLY_ affect him or he didn’t initially have a dog in the fight because like it was stated, the Sternritter is the true enemy of the Gotei/Soul Society. Ichigo has no connection or want of revenge against the Quincy until he arrives at Soul Society and sees Byakuya on his death stone slab

I feel like ichigo needed one more hard fought battle to really showcase how much he'd improved.

Shikai-Writing-Prompt: I'm Idea-Scouting and just want to see what differing Ideas people come up withh for the following brief explanation: The Shikai allows the concepts of distance and diversity to be manipulated when in direct correlation to eachother! This allows him to cut minions or enemies and improve or degrade their teleportation abilities.

What I missed in TYBW was a feat of Ichigo on his own. He almost did nothing other than running after he reforged his Bankai. And there we did not see how strong it is just that Ywach can outplay it. Maybe Ichigo should had just beaten Gerard Valkyrie at the point where the other captains failed, Kenpachi failed to use his bankai properly and Ichigo just save the day there that he is more of a miracle than Gerard.

I think you pretty much nailed it right on the head. I believe his involvement was pretty much ideal. I mean I think there’s way worse things you could complain about with the arc…like you said he is aligned with the gotei but he’s never been like a integral part of their system and this is very much everyone else’s war as much as ichigo. It makes sense for him to go to heuco mundo and fight to help nel and scout the situation, and I think he does enough throughout as a whole

A quick side note, has anyone considered that Ichigo is related to Ganju, Kukkaku and Kaien Shiba due to the fact that Isshin, Ichigo’s father, is also a Shiba? I wonder if MrTommo will make a video on that little flashback when Isshin was Captain of squad 10, with Rangiku as his Lieutenant and Toshiro as the 3rd seat. It would be interesting

I personally love it when the author gives attention to any other character other than the main. Ichigo has already had enough moments in previous arcs and I love it how in TYBW the attention is not always on him.

Tbh i feel like kubo just thought ichigo was too powerful after he got his true bankai so he had to save him specifically for yhwach , hopefully the anime makes the final battle wayyyyyy longer tho. And loved this video bro comin from a ichigo stan 🔥🔥😩

He should have shown off his new power more. I know he stomped the female Sternritters, but he should have actually killed a decent number of them post-RG training. We saw Kenpachi appear with a bunch of them dead over his shoulders, and we should have seen something similar. Yeah, Ichigo isn't one to go out of his way to kill people, but the Quincies were the most serious threat in the series. They were out to kill anyone they came across, putting all of Ichigo's shinigami friends/allies in peril. I also don't think Askin should have been able to easily take out someone who was a candidate for SK. Whatever happened to abilities being negated by reiatsu? I think it's safe to say Ichigo's reiatsu is far above that of Askin. I mean, Ichigo's stronger than he was against Aizen. I guess the only difference is that Dangai Ichigo's power was always activated, while TYBW Ichigo kept his power sealed, and only fully released it when he used his bankai against Yhwach. Anyway, he should have killed some Quincies. I don't think it's believable to have a drawn-out fight like we used to get, simply because if he's fighting to protect people, he'll be going all out, and if he's going all out, the individual Sternritters just aren't really a threat like e.g. the Espada were.

@MrTommo2304 I see it like this: I do wish Ichigo had maybe oneeee more fight before Yhwach. Either win Uryu or Jurgram. But I don't mind it not being there as well. The main focus of the story IS ICHIGO. Bleach is a character driven plot not a story driven one. We are supposed to learn about ICHIGO and himself. Throughout the manga he learns about himself, we learn about him, and thus we learn about ourselves. So I think it was great that we got to see Kubo finally complete Ichigo's self actaulization fully. Those moments of despair with old man zangetsu and his self acceptance are far more valuable to me then a few more fights with some no name sternritters he could easily mop up. Ichigo's journey is one of the best in shounen manga. It was crafted extremely well by Kubo. So to conclude I wish there was one more fight or so, but I wouldn't have it any other way if that meant his character would be mitigated because of it. Also, Kubo was rushing and working under limited time so it does make a lil sense.

Definitely wish we cod have had a proper fight where he could showcase his new banki. All we got was a 5 minute view then it was broken then never to be seen again. I would have liked to see the full extent of his powers at that point.

I think people would not have this complain if the last fight was atleast decent. Hell people would have been satisfied if we just got to see his true bankai.

imo he just needed one big fight before going to the big bad . Idk beating an elite , or hasch after his fight with bazz b . Like showcasing hos SHIKAI for the first time vs hasch beating him then going on to fight yuha It feels like the entire arc ichigo just fights yuha mainly and its unfair fighting the big bad while others have awesome fights with the weaker quincies

I like ichigo's development in the tybw and I didn't really have a problem that he didn't get a lot of moments that every Mc get Because this is something I really love about bleach that bleach isn't just about ichigo, but I can see where the fans are coming from

Part of me also believes that Kubo really wanted to show how Soul Society's chickens really came home to roost in the finale by showing the war's effect on others besides Ichigo.

What Ichigo needed was a proper fight that ended with him winning in order to showcase in a convincing way his training and controlled powers because apart from Ebern who he beats, his main fights against Quilge and Candice get interrupted just when Ichigo was dominating them beforehand. There is also barely a clash with Uryu even if I can understand that Kubo didn't want to overextend the drama of his "betrayal".

There are definitely a few Characters should have done more in TYBW Such as Ryuken, Isshin, Uryu, Ginjo, Haschwalth, ALL THE VIZARDS, The remaining Espada and most definitely Chad

I just finished reading the Thousand Year Blood War arc and I do think Ichigo could’ve done more fighting in the arc! I feel like I watched more supporting characters fight the enemy than Ichigo!

I just finished reading the arc an hour ago, and coming from someone who is not a fan of side character fights, I'm all about the mc, I loved this arc and the captains fighting even if it was 40 chapters without him, It got me out of my chair, seeing kempachi using his bankai or the captains being controlled by the quincy

I feel like if Yhwach v Ichigo had been like a 20 chapter all out brawl then everything would have been worth it. Its just you wait this entire arc, all this training and build up, and the best thing you can say about it is that one panel where Ichigo gives up and Aizen using Kyoka Suigetsu

Yeah, I didn't have a problem with him not doing much because I loved all the other characters and their moments.

I'm more interested in the Captains than Ichigo myself But I do think it is a bit of a problem that we don't get to see True Shikai/Bankai Ichigo do much or implement Quincy abilities into his arsenal save Blut Vene once (as far as I remember at least). Ichigo has never been a fancy fighter with an array of techniques but it would have been nice to see his Shika and Bankai gain a new ability which it really doesn't.

Yes. Too op to allow him to do more. Destroyed Quilge, destroyed another sternritter ON HIS WAY to ywatch, then had a skirmish with the girls then left for soul palace, skirmish with askin, then fought ywatch.

I think not having a rival character in the final arc makes sense considering the one he had in the soul society and Arrancar arc were revealed to be machination by Aizen. I would have been fully satisfyied with his role if only the final fight lasted longer, but that was ultimetly out of Kubo's control.

Yes I wanted to see Ichigo body some fuckin quincys we barely get to see his new powers we dont even get to see him use his bankai because it literally got cut in half in the next panel we only got a glimpse of him using his true hollow powers with his zankpatous and he gets absolutely destroyed by Ywach in the end anyway it sucks not seeing the mc flex their new powers after a power up

I think Ichigo was more or less where he needed to be at all times, there were just way too many characters to juggle and devote screen time to, but I think he certainly should've had a defining battle against one of the schuttzstaffel

Imagine if somehow Ywatch could get to soul palace without ichigo having to come down first. All the top sternritter pull up and Ichigo is just waiting there, ready to take them all on
