Assuming too much there buddy? My daily is a 6spd 3G TL with custom exhaust, headers, intake and many other mods. Its loud and I love it. but I also drove my car without an exhaust, and it becomes a headache after a while. There are nice sounding loud cars and there are just obnoxious cars and those get annoying as a daily, I'm speaking from experience. Maybe that would still sound good on a muscle car but it just sounds wrong on a Porsche.

I agree that tbe sound is odd for a Porsche, but exhaust sound can be modified with a custom exhaust system. To get the performance out of a 996, you would have 30k+ to match what is probably under 12k total with an ls3 swap.

Springbanker The 4.0 911 GT3, even the RS or a modified exhaust, sounds like a sports bike or an angry 🐝 bee. It's so much less vibrant in than a V8. I wish I could say otherwise. I ran two modified V12 manual for 15 years, an 850 CSI BMW (so anodyne) and a Jaguar XJS. Both had tubular exhaust manifolds and custom boxes. Neither sounded as great as my V8 928 GTS with the rear exhaust box removed.

depends on one's taste. you're probably a bone-deep V8 guy and i suppose most Americans are but I am not. I prefer the brighter, more athletic sound of a 6cylinder engine, flat, in line or V to the chunky V8 sound and Porsche and BMW are music in my ears

Having the cut into the the chassis I have to agree. There is only so far you should go to get extra power, at some point it just makes more sense to buy the actual car that comes with the engine. Or he could have fixed the original engine and turbocharged it to have just as much power. Both would have been more expensive I'm sure (I don't know how much he's paying Wizard for all these hours though) but there is a good reason most people go that route. The only way this makes sense if you are just doing it for the novelty of it.

armoredp the 996 engine is known for going out when ever it feels like it, and turbocharging it doesnt sound like it will solve the problem. The LS was more for reliable power as opposed to being a novelty, he should be able to track it daily without having to worry. The 996 can be reliable (kind of) for daily driving but the track is were it seems to start hating life.

He said that the LS only weighed a few pounds more than the original engine...

I D There are a lot of 944 owners that made the swap because it's cheaper than keeping the original hardware running, especially during hard use.

Trying to rebuild a Porsche engine is expensive as heII! I have a Porsche Panamera Turbo (one of my top 4 dream cars) and I almost blew mine when the cam adjuster bolts broke because it was made of aluminum. They're made of titanium now much better. Just to fix that was $4200. If it had destroyed the motor a new one would have cost over $50,000. Im not rich just because I own a Porsche. The only reason I'm able to afford a Porsche is because of two things. ..My money management skills allow me to do more with less and I do most of my own maintenance. Otherwise I wouldn't have a Porsche.

A 996 is far from an expensive car. $15k is plenty to get yourself a pretty fair example.
