jospi2 I normally like Doug as well. His last NSX video was bad. I felt is was bad for the following reason. 'Here look at this finger slider on the radio! It is not the coolest thing, but it is cool. No. Doug. That is not cool. Not at all. That is stupid. Then telling me about a rag you get in a plastic cover was all I could take. It was a paid video from the dealer to get someone to take those overpriced NSXs off his lot. It was not the normal quirky videos he does and it was irritating.
+Mr. Johnson (Face Palm) Latin America refers to countries in the Americas (North, Central and South) where a romance language is spoken (mostly Spanish, Portuguese, French and Creole), which is derived from Latin! North America refers to geographic location, which consists of Canda (English & French are spoken there), the U.S. (No official language and has varied by region over time) and Mexico (No official language, but mostly Spanish, Nahuatl, Yucatec Maya and Mixtex). ;)
There's a guy called "Doug DeMuro" and he does reviews and stories about having cars. He's had a few stories where a car broke down multiple times and the bumper to bumper warranty saved his ass.
You're my favorite car channel on RU-vid by far now. So original and love your personality as well as your sense of humor and how you make your vids always seeming to just have fun with it. Keep up the awesome work!
3:34 when you discover the wizard's name: David. And Hoovie probably start thinking what nick name to call him, so at 3:45 he came with the idea: the Car Wizard.
Anyone who makes a comment about resell value on a 996 with 243,000 miles being damaged by the LS swap deserves to be ignored completely as they are idiots. I'd gladly pay 22k or more for this car once it's done. But if it had the original Porsche Engine with those miles I'd pay about 10k tops.
I spent $27k on a what I thought was nice 2003 C4S and it was a pile of crap. I'm not sure about the other guy but I speak from experience when I say I would pay more for the LS.
what problems did you have with the car. My best friend in highschool's father had one, and i have always had an itch for that body style.... save me from the pain.
Well stuff broke like window regulators, fuel sending unit, smoking on startup, throttle body and some other stuff but it's the price that will really kill you. The maintenance/consumables I had to buy were pretty insane too. It takes 9 quarts of synthetic oil, a brake job was $2k, a clutch and flywheel job was $3k. 295 rear tires aren't cheap and they go quick because of the camber. Not to say people don't have good ones but that was my experience in the one year I had it.
Way to go on the LS Swap! Looking forward to that video series. :) By the sound of the Speak & Spell voice, I'm guessing your new purchase is some sort of Chrysler K-car or derivative?
How do you not have 2-million subscribers? You are funnier than 99.999999999% of the professional comedians out there...plus the car stuff is incredible. An absolute guilty pleasure!
I came across your channel by accident, and I must say I am happy I did. Your presentation is so awkward and funny, that it makes your channel very entertaining and fun to watch. Good luck with your swap, I hope I never have to do this one day on mine haha
I recently entered my VW Bug into a car show & saw a guy there who LS-swapped an '03 996 C4S (he used an LS3 from an '08 Corvette & not an LS2). I talked to him and he had the same kit you're using, only his car had AWD and a few other modifications. That car was an absolute BEAST!
I thought IMS bearing failure from the very start, and I was unfortunately right. I'm glad you're going with the LS swap after all! Lots of parts available for that, and it won't break your bank!
Dear Mr. Hoovie, I absolutely love this idea, for every reason you can imagine (tech geekery, crowd-pleasery, and porsche-purist-piss-offery)! The icing on this franken-cake would be a head-to-head with a purist's 996 Turbo! Please, please, oh pretty please find that guy! It will top all of us gear-head's must-see list xmas!
Predictions: the LS car will be quicker off the line but the Turbo might have an edge in top speed. Quarter mile times will be roughly even with the LS car having a slight edge. In a mile race the Turbo will win. Just make certain it's a regular Turbo and not an X50 or an S variety from 2005.
Kevin Davis The turbo would take him off the line because it AWD both 0 to 60 and quarter mile. Now if the can make a LS swap with the AWD still working that would be bad ass.
sportsmansparadice42 I've driven a 996 Turbo and have owned a couple of LS cars. The Turbo doesn't hit boost until around 4000 RPM, so suffers from typical lag. The low end torque of the LS would easily leave the Turbo at the line. Once the Turbo gets into boost, however, it will be an interesting race.
Kevin Davis The later 996 had over boost that put the torque around 500 foot pounds. That along with AWD you will be hard pressed to find any production car that could beat it off the line. Now I'm talking about that time era.
10 grand for the motor AND the swap kit? that's actually super nice. how much was the motor and where did you source it? (like, eBay, car-part, cold calling local junkyards, what?)
Car Treks Hoovie’s Garage PSA brought me here. I was completely happy with this content when it first came out. But I can see now that both you and Wizard have gotten way more comfortable with the Camera.
Seems expensive. Legacy is a nicer car if you can get one of those, whereas Impreza is more of an econobox. Subarus are good cars. (source: Former 1998 impreza wrx driver :) )
Absolutely not. You've got to be on crack to buy any 24 year old car that isn't a true collectable for that kind of money. Not to say this is for everybody, but I have my reasons, I recently bought a '95 Escort Wagon that is fully loaded out (cruise, A/C, tilt, 5 speed, etc, etc) with 73,000 miles for $2,000... and I feel I paid too much but I really wanted that specific car (again, "reasons"). $2k is absolutely top dollar for anything at all like that, IMO. Sub-$1500 is more the range you should be looking for.
YES!!!! I know some Porsche purists are going to want you lynched for this but I think you'll love the finished product. It will be pretty unique and there's a LOT of performance potential in LS engines. It's also worth considering that it's got 250k miles on it. It's lived a more useful life than most Porsches will ever dream of and this way it gets a new lease on life. I'm excited to see where this build goes and I'll be watching each video on it. You're doing a great job with the channel. Keep it up, Tyler.
CBJO_752 I and my family have driven German cars for years and we have never had any problems other than regular maintenance and service. You probably bought cars which hadn't been maintained properly in the past or cars which were repaired using cheap parts or crap mechanics who know nothing about German cars.
caddy Just because something is unreliable doesn't mean it's not clever. A flat-6 is designed to be flatter so you can lower the center of gravity, unlike the V, VR, and Inline 6s. Turbo- and Superchargers are clever, but not necessarily reliable. A W-16 is clever but not reliable. Get it?
+James Proffitt A Porsche Flat-6 has no significant CG advantage over an LS because the LS is so light and has a relatively low CG for a V8 due to the OHV design. That slight advantage is also more than canceled out by that fact the LS is lighter than any Porsche engine with similar output. Like he said, it's like a 996 turbo with 150lbs. less hanging on the rear.
Douglas Hanna I wouldn't go so far as to say that. Compare a 6.0 liter to a 3.4 liter seems a bit unfair. Porsche engines make more power per liter than the LS and even the new LT1 The GT3 RS has a 4.0 liter naturally aspirated engine that puts out 500hp. That's 125hp per liter 125 x 4 = 500hp. C7 Corvette with a 6.2 liter makes 460hp. However the Porsche can't match the torque of the Corvette, but that's a given with a larger displacement engine.
Many car manufacturers use engines from other manufacturers. eg. BMW are presently working on a replacement for the Z4 with Toyota. Jaguar use Peugeot diesel engines to name a few.
That "Thank You" voice is from a Chrysler New Yorker or other Mopar car that had the EVA or "Electronic Voice Alert" Already excited to see what comes next, subbed.
Ahhh early Hoovie! Shouting at the camera, you have come so far! And the framing at 2:50 lol, oh and the car wizard too, both come so far since then 👍👍
