I have 4c hair as well. I used their Mos Def mousse and got great results. I started on freshly washed hair. I used probably a quarter sized amount of a light leave in and combed it through with a wide tooth comb. I then separated my hair into 8 sections. I spritzed each section with water to ensure my hair was wet wet. I then applied a generous amount of product and brushed it through a tangle teezer brush. Once I finished all sections i went back in and sprayed it with water again, shook my head from side to side to separate the curls, and sat under a hooded dryer for about 30-45mins. My hair was super defined and lasted for 2 whole weeks. I didn’t spritz my hair at all the entire 2 weeks and only relied on steam from my shower to refresh it. Was very simple and low maintenance 😊
Oh great to know! Which leave-in did you use? And how did your hair feld once dried? I don't like the feeling with gels which makes my hair feels hard and unflexibel.
The person who created the doux stated that you shouldn’t use any other product underneath the mousse because the mousse already has leave in inside of it and was designed to only be used by itself :)
So...since we established near the beginning of the video that there was an oil-containing product on your hair before application of The Doux (which instructions clearly indicate will affect the product's efficacy), I'm managing my expectations of the final result.
I like star puppy. But I do feel like she doesn't fully follow directions (this video, and the no oils butter ones). So tho it's not her intention she messes up from the start and thus she unintentionally misleads others. Her platform is large so I do expect more. Now I kinda don't take her videos too seriously. She's having fun which is fine. But I'm not gonna direct anyone to her channel if they're looking for correct application of techniques that will help their hair.
@@eems6859 i feel kind of bad though because I know young people watch this and I don't like how *often* her videos reinforce the whole "I don't 4c my hair doing this" thing--sometimes, for relatability and to express frustrations, i understand, but doing it forever is just creating a self fulfilling prophecy for a lot of people, that's what I like about hair content on tiktok it's been easier for me to find girls there that ar ejust celebrating their hair and working with it not agaisn't it

She's beautiful, cute, and lovely but she as you stated is fueling the fire of 4C frustration and hate. If she followed the directions I think she'd see better results.

Even in super shrinkage mode, your hair are so much longer, it shows especially over the eyes! You won't be able to keep them loose there if they grow any longer! ^_^

If you’re looking for ultimate definition and hang time, try it again on freshly washed naked hair without leave-in. Cream based leave-ins dilute the strength of gels on our type of hair and kind of work against curl clumping. Have a spray bottle on hand to get your sections dripping wet, apply the gel and then follow up with The Doux Def Mousse on top. Dry it with a diffuser or hooded dryer before bed time. It will give you major hold and you won’t have to spray your hair every night. Your curls will stay in place. ❤🥰
The doux products tend to work best when used together and definitely without oily products underneath. If you try this again you can try using one of their leave in products underneath the gel if you want a moisture layer that plays well with the other products. You can also try using the mouse first and the gel on top. If you Saturate your hair with the mouse really well it can give some good elongation to the hair and clump your curls really well so smoothing the products through may be a smoother process. Also, I know you like spritzing and stretching your hair at night but this does mess with the cast of gel products which can interfere with the longevity ofbthe set and create frizziness faster. It might be a good experiment to try going through a week without stretching and manipulating your curls every night to observe the differences in how your hair evolves naturally through the week, and to get used to where your hair naturally sits. Shower steam would be better than the spray bottle since it helps to liven up curls without completely interfering with the gel cast. Keep playing with the products and you will find a layering and application that gives you the best results for your hair (which is looking great and still turned out beautiful despite the challenges you had when applying). How do you use shower steam without getting the hair wet from the shower spray itself? What's the best method for steaming in a shower? I assume it also must be super hot to produce enough steam. Is this accurate?
@@chicquie5471 I personally use a scarf because I can tie it snug to my head to prevent my hair from moving around while I sleep. I position my hair underneath so it's all laying downwards and in the right direction. Then the next day when I take it off I just fluff my hair back out (it's easier to reposition the hair upwards when stuck down since it kinda lives up and out anyway. Think like the opposite of pineapple method). Or I use a buff as well, and pull it over my hair like a hat (if I have bangs I just tuck them to the sides under the buff after it's on). Then do the same thing in the morning.
@@celeste37083 some people shower without a shower cap but that's too risky for me lol! I will shower then take my shower cap off at the end of my shower to let the steam hit it. Yes you would need to take very warm showers. Keep the door closed so the steam can marinate in the room and not escape right away. I should say it's not something you would need to do all the time, it's just a better alternative to spraying the hair directly and then manipulating it since that breaks the gel cast.
I apply the Big Poppa Defining gel on soaking wet hair (freshly washed, deep conditioned, no leave in) in the shower. I brush the gel through small sections using the Pattern beauty shower brush, then rake through with fingers to define the curls. Afterwards, I'm under the dryer for about an hour or so. At night, I just wear a bonnet and in the AM, i just fluff my hair with my fingers...no spritz of water needed...This last me a week to include 4 days of HIIT sweat! Chin length bob when straight...my curls are tighter in the back and looser on the sides and front...I will never go back to using EcoStyler again!
You should apply it in the shower on soaking wet hair after you rinse out your conditioner. The humectants in the formulation will expand and allow you to spread it over your hair, more easily, and allow for more water retention to provide moisture.
“Let’s see if we can just 3c our way into this..,” had me dying 😂😂 My 3c hair loves the denman brush to define my curls. The downside is it makes my hair flat on top.

Have you tried silk scrunchies? You can find them on Amazon. I use them at night to band my hair and it preserves my curls. I can sleep comfortably. It’s been a game changer and allows my wash and gos to last longer.
Real talk, the Doux Big Poppa gel has been the most defining gel I’ve ever used and I used it without leave ins and oils then topped it off with some Mousse Def. It’s my absolute favorite combo at this point.

Pop lock is not my fave of her products but I find that they work best as Maya instructs AND when your foundation is good. I would also suggest trying the honey line (and use as she instructs LOL). I think you will be even more pleased.

I don’t think it’ll do much. Me and my friends all have 4C hair and every time we’ve tried, the gel hardens the hair, or it looks fuzzy 😭 but everyone is different 🤔 maybe we haven’t found the right gel? 🤷🏽♀️
@@Findmy_Way-Home It really depends on what kind of gels you use and how they’re formulated. My hair is 4c too and I don’t have these issues. The Doux Big Poppa gel for example is very moisturising. Layer The Doux Def Mousse on top and it will give you soft hair, major definition and hold. 🥰
I have fine hair as well and the Mousse works better for me. It's spreads a little easier than the pop lock and has more slip. Try the mousse on fluff nugget!

Aloe use after conditioner as a rinse out works really well for me. It’s a humectant so helps hold in the moisture before applying a leave in! As a pre poo is great for softening but then you wash it all out 🌸
Right a wash n go for me is being able to step outta the shower with my hair already done. I apply my products in the shower so the process is really quick and easy once you get the hang of it. Styling my hair outside the shower is a pain since my hair is so dense and it tangles up as it drys. Styling your hair in the shower makes wash n gos so much easier and faster. I feel like they live up to there name once you get the hang out of and style in the shower
I love their Bee Girl custard!! Easy application, great hold, great results! Thank you for the video! I didn't have luck with their foam, or any other foam for that matter. I've learned that Wetline and a few custards work great for me. (My hair loves Knot Today and The Doux Bee Girl) 👍

I was thinking the same thing as I was watching the video... I have been following BGC for 3 months and decided to join See Some Curls (SSC). The education and the mindset really blows me away! My hair is in becoming more hydrated as I continue on the journey in just a short period of time. I hope Star and Fluff Nugget would look into it! Both are too valuable for experimentation.
I have a looser texture in the back. Like my hair in the back is not even in the 4 spectrum. I also noticed that the longer my hair gets the less it stays in its curl pattern the next day or two. I always have to manipulate it.
I use the Doux foam. I have to layer it because by itself it gives me the definition I want but it gives me minimal to no moisture. But I use it as my base & layer ontop
Your hair has grown so much! Please remember to get a trim at some point, split ends if you don’t cut them can break all the way to the root, leading to thinness, breakage and you feeling like it’s not growing or progressing! Cut those split ends right away ❤
