I should have mentioned - I have a family of 6 so I’m constantly doing loads. I’ve always done laundry every single day, otherwise I get backed up and that was one of my concerns! (I always had two loads going at once, one in wash & one in dryer) I haven’t had one problem of getting backed up with laundry with this machine! It’s SO nice to stick your clothes in once and they are ready to be put away!👌🏻

An old timer here... Hate to break this to everyone, but washer/dryer combos (240v) were available in the mid to late 50’s. They were ventless for renters of apartments where the landlord forbid having 4" vent holes drilled thru the outside wall, also in high rise apt buildings where venting thru outside walls was impossible. The downside of these ventless units was a galvanized sheet metal condenser unit where air & moisture passed thru an assembly of tubes to allow a heat exchanger to condense and collect the water in a pan beneath for disposal. If the tubes were not cleaned out frequently with a special long bristle brush, lint that got thru the lint trap would plug up the tubes and eventually the lint would build up inside the bottom of the entire unit. Once the accumulated lint came in contact with the dryer heating element, it would catch on fire. I believe some deaths resulted from those fires, so the design was eventually discontinued. Moreover, the machines were so heavy they vibrated badly during the spin cycle and needed shock absorbers to dampen the vibration. The door seal material (rubber) also degraded over time because rubber seals were not very far advanced in that era, and the detergent degraded the rubber, causing leaks around the door. So the idea of washer/dryers being mated is NOT new. Hopefully the original issues have been solved. I was an appliance serviceman in the early to mid 70's and encountered one of these units in a customer's home. I found the inside filled with 2" of lint on the bottom inside and was surprised the unit hadn't caught fire because some of the lint near the heating element had obviously been singed. So I suggest making very sure to clean the lint filter after every washload and have a serviceman check the inside of the unit periodically to insure that if lint gets thru the lint filter. it does not accumulate inside the machine that might potentially cause a fire.

@@majestyk3337 Never said that. But in the U.S., I never saw new ones sold after the early 60's. I was an appliance repairman for many brands of appliances from '72 to '77. Only worked on two of these older machines in the field all that time. Materials & design/technology had not solved the problems, especially with fires from built-up lint in the machines and rubber technology of door seals. The new ones I've seen on RU-vid complaints are overly complex and very expensive. Too many bells & whistles increase cost and breakdowns. The hourly cost of paying for repairs has increased substantially compared to the past and just like automobiles, the number of former do-it-yourselfers who cannot afford the cost of repair techs has substantially increased. Simplicity cuts cost and makes the work involved to do laundry a reasonable effort. Doing laundry is not and never has been rocket science and does not necessitate a machine that costs several thousand dollars to was and dry clothes.

I spoke too soon. Do a search for... "GE All in one Combo washer dryer lint collecting on coils"
@utubetommy
@utubetommy 27 дней назад
@@majestyk3337 Thanks for the reply. I have nothing against the advancement of technology in appliances, but the downsides to me are flaws that don't logically occur to designers during the design process that ultimately show themselves over time while in use. Stand alone dryers by themselves are not sophisticated designs and have not changed much over the years... all have clothes drums, heating elements, cycling and hi-limit thermostats, support for the drums (shaft/bearing in back, usually support of opening in front, with exception of old 70's vintage or earlier Maytag dryers which were only supported in the back), a drive motor and belt to turn the drum and a lint screen, with a timer to select drying time, heat settings and shut off the dryer once drying time was done. More sophisticated models had more elaborate "timers" and sensors on the drum paddles to detect moisture content of clothes and shut off the timer when the moisture in the clothes was minimal or nil. And of course, lint filters and vents. Sounds complex, but fairly simple because if you ever worked on one, you would see all or most of the items I described above, if you knew what to look for. That said, marrying a washer and dryer results in a new set of problems that need to be overcome... namely lint buildup because conventional lint filters are not and never have been 100% successful in capturing all the lint from clothes. Once that damp lint gets thru the lint filter, it settles in undesirable places and dries out and builds up over time. If you look at all the complex plastic components inside one of these "new, improved" combos, you can see how unwanted lint can accumulate in nooks and crannies. Plastic and metal internal parts tend to attract and accumulate lint. The more nooks and crannies that designers put into the parts they design are havens for this lint to build up and cause problems. Perhaps over the years, the Europeans have solved all these problems, but I never heard about it happening, and apparently G.E. and other sppliance manufactures in the U.S. haven't heard it either. We've had a Frigidaire laundry center (stacked dryer) for several years and I've seen the inside of the washer mechanism. Not very impressed as all manufacturers have cheapened mechanisms from metal to plastic and cabinets to cut costs and keep prices "low". Couple that with a more sophisticated mechanism and you have a serviceman's dream... he or she will never, ever be out of work. Good for him and his employer, bad for their customers. As with automobiles, there are fewer and fewer backyard mechanics each year who try to fix or repair their autos to stay within family budget as repair costs soar. The same is happening with appliances. When I see a $2,000-$3,000 price tag on a washer dryer combo, I cringe and feel for lower income folks with even a small family who struggle to make ends meet, and may well have an albatross combo unit that will bring them future nightmares both in worries and cost. I believe in the KISS method of design... Keep It Simple, Stupid. More sophisticated appliances ultimately result in more cost and headaches for consumers. Food for thought, from an old Maytag man.

OMG.... what a great and comprehensive review! I use to have a front loading washer, and ... yes, I did have the issue when washing clothes, towels, etc... in which they would have that moldy type of smell, even after everything was dried in the dryer. So, I was very happy when you mentioned that with this unit, the moldy smelling issue does not happen because of the fact that the drying cycle dries out all the areas inside of the unit, therefore greatly reducing or eliminating the moldy smell issue to ever happen. :-) Great tip also, on doing longer loads at night before you go to bed. So, I'm going to seriously think about getting this unit "after" my current washer and dryer bite the dust. Thanks again Ashley for the incredible video!!! My 24 old Maytag Neptune stacking unit finally gave out and I was heartbroken because it had a gas dryer. I had heard about this new unit and was skeptical because it wasn't gas, and even more skeptical because it only needed 120v. I watched multiple videos on this, then last Weds was at a major retailer. When walking through the appliance section of the store, I came across an unpriced that had a small dent in the top. The store was offering $1000 off promotional and when I asked what the price of damaged unit was, they told me 50% off to get it off the floor. I ended up buying the unit for $1000 which is almost 2/3 off of the suggested retail. They are delivering it Tuesday, hauling away the old unit for $50 and delivering the new one. I'm very exciting about using it. Thanks for your video.

I also have a laundry closet, not room...so if I can have one machine rather than two, I can add shelving and increase my storage space. So many benefits to this machine! I think I'll give it a little more time to see more reviews & for cost to come down some, but I've got it in my Best Buy saved list.

Same here! I can’t even get anyone to come out for less than $400 and most balk at the steep roof. The duct going up two stories is awful! I was contemplating expanding the laundry a few feet into a bedroom just to move the vent to the exterior wall. I ordered this machine after very little deliberation- it’s cheaper than duct cleaning year after year or expanding the laundry closet and now I’ll have room to install a laundry sink.

Love heat pump dryers! We have a standalone Whirlpool unit and it has noticeably lowered our power bill. Not only is it more efficient to move heat from the room into the clothes instead of making new heat (from electricity or gas), but also you are not pumping the conditioned air from inside the house to the outside through the vent, wasting your A/C or heat. I've had very few things that don't dry just as easily in the heat pump dryer as a traditional one. Every so often something bulky will take a few extra minutes to dry, but it's worth it for the cost savings, the environmental benefit, and the fact that it is not as hard on the clothes.

@@randomrazr The heat pump will be more efficient than gas but it's hard to say if it's cheaper without knowing your specific situation - your price of gas vs. electricity, source of gas (NG or propane), whether you have gas today and would need to add an outlet for electric, also how much of the year you heat or cool your house where the ventless aspect of a heat pump dryer also contributes.

Does nobody realize the *reason* the dryer in this unit is ventless is because it's a heat pump??? That's HUGE. Like, a really really big deal in terms of efficiency, cost to run, and effectiveness. Think about how completely ridiculous the concept of a traditional vented dryer is: You take 900 cubic feet per minute of air in your house that you just air conditioned and cooled down, and run it through a six thousand watt electric heater. Blow that air through your clothes, boiling the water out of them, and then blow that air and all the heat energy.... outside??? What in the actual f*ck are we thinking??? IF you have moist air, you use a heat pump to chill it so the moisture condenses out and then put that same heat right back into the air again so it can absorb more moisture. That's how a dehumidifier works. It's extremely effective. And it absolutely makes sense to use that concept to dry clothes. Why waste 100% of the heat when you can re-use it to collect more moisture? This GE Combo is an awesome machine for many reasons, but the biggest reason is that heat pump drying process, and I hope more people realize how awesome it is.

I was 15 when my mother remarried and we moved into my new stepfather's home. He had a washer/dryer unit, in 1965! It was several years old already and lasted a few more years before they moved house. So.. not a new concept, but certainly a LOT more efficient now than that 60's model.

The 32 load detergent and softener loading at once along with the notification of when to re-fill, the straight-to-drying (I often forget to transfer!), the light that shows how far along it is (which is easier than numbers due to time-blindness), the notification of when the cycle is done. I love it so much! 😍 Thanks for reviewing, indeed it's very helpful 👍 One question. How hot does can the dryer get? I had a bedbug problem earlier this year thanks to a hotel stay, and had to dry all clothing and bedding on high heat for about 45 minutes to kill whatever could be hiding. Because of the wash, dry time?

Wow!! 4 kids here as well!! Family of 6!🙌🏻This was my concern too! I’ve always done laundry every single day and if I miss I get backed up! I haven’t had one single issue with that. In fact I feel much more on top of it cause clothes are 100% done once I put them in and I never run into accidentally leaving them in the wash & having to rewash them! (Which has always caused me backed up laundry)🫠

Sure it doesnt have fancy features, but they have more than paid for themselves. If they go out, I'll repair them. If I can't get them repaired, I'm gonna look for a set just like it. I have the LG version of this and have had it for two years. YES!!! So in love with this way of doing laundry!! My husband is no longer able to live out of the dryer because in order to run another load you have to unload what’s in there. No more wet laundry sitting in water for two days because you forgot to flip the stuff to the dryer. This is great because if you need to wash overnight you can easily just set it up and then go to bed without worries. That being said - I buy a bit more expensive liquid soap but I find no need for fabric softener or dryer sheets. I don’t buy these anymore ever. My unit is smaller in height and the lint trap is more difficult to clean, nor does it have the 32 ounce auto soap option but it’s nice to see more than one company now has a combo like this. Mine is in the kitchen. 😁 I’m never going back to the old way of doing laundry and this technology is not new - these machines are extremely common in England where there is one until that does it all and they are often installed in small kitchens. Awesome review. Highly recommend
