I'm a hapa girl who has dated mostly Asian men and I've never been told anything remotely close to what the women were saying in the video. My parents are AMWF.

My experience with hapas both male and female is that they tend to embrace and cultivate their "white" side more and that extends to their social circles, profession circles and dating circles -- with the occasional social media posting acknowledging their asian heritage around lunar new year. It's interesting to see the dynamic being flipped now adays.

If the girl's parents are AMWF, it's much less surprising that she would be open to dating AM. Self-loathing can still be an underlying theme, but when AM is normalized as a potential romantic prospect, it's less likely that they'd find the possibility odd. Also depends on how strict the father is. I suspect an Asian dad in an interracial relationship would be much less strict compared to a traditional AMAF pairing because he probably has less rigid thinking.

Just can't wrap my head around the "he must have game" mindset. People fall in love for manifold reasons, it's not always game.

Wasian women in my life lean asian actually... and there is a weird disapproval to them dating an asian guy that comes from their parents. Thats what made it taboo. One i met basically had mom an dad always talk shit about asian men almost like a punch buggy game.

I would say ignore the chronic complainers, as they just want to drag other Asian men down to their level of misery. Yes, there are still people who still see Asian men in a negative light, but that’s lessening year by year. Focus less on those people who see race as social signifiers or a social hierarchy, and focus more on people who are more intellectually nuanced, and who share similar values. You can still call out certain asian women who see Asian men as lesser than white, but don’t let anger take hold of you. Do it in a way where non-asians will see your point of view and take your side. Those particular asian women are on the losing side of history, after all.

My family seems to break stereotypes. My grandfathers bro married an Irish woman & my uncle married an Anglo American woman. As for myself I have a Hapa ex and I was only briefly involved w/ a FilAm. The rest have been white, Hispanic or Native American. Still, it’s not like it was the norm & I was never against dating Asian women. It’s just whomever I vibe w/ and have more in common.

I've dated a few half Asian women and I don't remember these type of comments from them. But then again, I'm Gen X and the women I've dated are around the same age as me or they're Millennials.

In the past, it ain’t secret that Hapa-women always preferred white men as partner of choice/preference. With Hapa women dating full Asian men in the west; It’s one of those rare relationships too. I’m hapa (or Wasian as most people know it) and I have dated a lot of hapa guys and a few full Asian. Full Asian men have super judgemental parents but hapa men have an Asian parent that is whitewashed by their White spouse and therefore are not as judgemental. For example, one full Asian man I dated had a mom who liked me because I was skinny and pretty (superficial as shit) but didn’t like me because I was 27 and in college. His full Asian dad also liked my appearance but disliked that I was in college. This guy dumped me because I wasn’t good enough for his parents. I have always met full Asian men with judgemental parents that scare me. But yeah being hapa I like fellow hapa men. Some have had judgemental parents but not all. Hapas are attractive so I guess naturally I as a hapa like hapa men. My parents are both hapa and since I have mostly dated hapa men I have always thought I would marry one. But shaving is interesting. I have always shaved my entire body. I’m also obsessed with my weight. I guess being thin and hairless is a draw for full Asian men lol. I surprise no one has brought this up but the real issue isn’t about Asian men having a hard time dating women of other ethnicity but rather why do Asian women seem so easily and eager to date men of other ethnicities and in some cases , throw Asian men under the bus in the process . While it is not wrong to date another person of a different ethnicity, explicitly discounting/ showing preference to someone based on a ethnicity overtly is a sign that the culture has “ self confidence “ issues . I think this is the crux of the matter .

Bottom line is: just be yourself. You never know how people think and the way they were raised or grew up. It doesn’t matter whether the ethnicity or racial background. Just get to know that particular person.
