The local amusement park where I grew up in the 70's had this slide. We loved it. But we road on pieces of carpet not in burlap bags. You held on to the edges of the carpet and it probably gave you a more secure feeling ride then being in loose fitting bag as it was more like being on a sled. Plus some cushioning for your butt! We always felt it was too slow and could barely get any air. The whole surface was highly polished from a million rides and got hotter then hell in the sun. We made sure to stay on because you could burn the hell out of yourself is you fell off. Ah, the 70's. A time when kids tossed 18" pointed steel projectiles at each other and called it a game (lawn darts) and your parents weren't always sure you'd return whole from the amusement park and were good with it. It was definitely a time when Darwin was more firmly in charge. Although from the above video it appears he still has a pretty big say in things.
Oh I used to ride this back in the late 60’-70’s…..we had so much fun….running up all of those steps for the few seconds thrill…you gotta know the technique to survive-hahahaha
They had one like this at Elitches in Colorado back in the 70's. That was my favorite part of the amusement park. We would have bruises all over but it was so much fun, nobody cared. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
It might be fun to see a little damage. But seeing a little girl crashing with her head on the ground for like 3 times and every time harder than before is just sad.
Man im 45 when i was a kid going down this slide..if we didnt catch air it wasnt fun...it meant you were going to slow..kids and parents now are a bunch of panzies
Back then, lawsuits weren't flying all over the place. You gotta protect your money. That is especially true as you have to remember all the years when Belle isle was crap hole due to no funding.
🤗🤗🤗 - "Dude" ...what about when you fly off the slide all together and land right on the freaking power lines...." IT'S FREAKING AMAZING!!!"....WOOT, WOOT, WOOOT!!!
I grew up in Detroit and rode this slide back in the day. A couple years after it opened, a young child was seriously injured after riding the slide after a rain shower. The burlap sack stuck to the wet slide and the child continued down the slide. Now, they are going to use water between rides to slow it down. If you ride this slide, be very careful.
Wait. You said they got injured because rain caused burlap to stick this causing kid to get injured. So wouldnt using water between mimic that same scenario😳😳
I use too work on B.I. and this happened back when the put in the second slide and people got hurt they put to much wax spray at the top the the slide they had to shut it down then too.
I'll tell you if I didn't laugh and laugh and still laughing. It's hilarious 🤣😆😂😄😭. I would not have tried though. I've got kin in Detroit and I would have love to have visit there just to laugh in person . If I was going up those steps to slide and after I'd seen them flipping back down , I would have walked right back down.

Hey...at least 2 of the 6 changed their minds about going down...they picked up the burlap sack and bolted...LOL. I went down this slide as a youth in the late 60's...maybe 1970. We did NOT go airborne!
@@mikemondano3624 You're not very smart are you? Did you even watch the video? It has nothing to do with bees. Or lightning. If if you're going to make an argument, perhaps you should learn how to do it. I suggest stopping by a 3rd grade class and asking one of them how it's done. This slide was improperly treated and people went flying and landed hard. When you land hard you can hurt your back. Are you capable of understanding that? Perhaps another session with a 3rd grader would help you understand that period
@@heronpage3883 You're smart enough to not even know where you are. This is a comment section, not a debate section. Demonstrations do not require arguments nor apologists.
No they're not. The slide had yellow paint on it and you didn't bounce like that. I rode that slide as a kid in Detroit, and no one ever bounced like that!!
Okay... I'm unsure of how much technical expertise is involved with designing a slide, but can't they be designed knowing which speeds people will reach, and adjust the curves in it's design to accommodate those speeds? ...or do the designers just assume everyone wants to slide down at boring 1920s speeds?
Saudades do toboga. Eu acho que parte do problema, está na pouca inclinação e nas sequencias de ondulações iguais.
I guess you missed the part where they said it was coded with something different this time period so I don't really care what you did back in the day, it's not what is happening here. I'm more concerned over the fact that your cognitive skills seem to be lacking. Perhaps that is because you went down at many a time in the day and hit your head a lot.
@@heronpage3883 Ummmm…..look in the mirror, “Professor”……you’re the one with reading comprehension skills of an eight year old. What part of “and never got hurt” can’t you grasp?? And I didn’t know the slide was a piece of software that was “coded”. 🤣🤣🤣.
@@heronpage3883 first, it's COATED, like paint. Second, it doesn't say ANYTHING about that in this video, so why would anyone know they "coded" it with anything UNLESS they read it elsewhere or watched a video with that info? Also, it wasn't "coded" - although they DID clean it thoroughly. Moron 🤦🏼♀️
