I have driven four different 911’s, but my father’s 1963 Carerra Convertible was a gem. But, I say was because my parents got divorced and that beauty went away. Yet, I can still feel those gorgeous leather seats, wind hitting me in the face doing 150 mph on Hwy 1 north of Santa Cruz, and the cornering on the ride back from Half Moon Bay turning South from 92 to 35 at Skyline. One of the epic Porsche roads in the USA…

The 997 seems to be the sweet spot for 911 purchases right now. It's the right combination of a modern car with the classic 911 look, and there are bargains out there if you want to look for them.

Exactly what I've been thinking lately, for a long time I wanted to get a 993 when I get enough money for it, but after some consideration the 997 seems like the perfect deal for the price, it has that sweet chemistry between the modern tech and old day mechanical engineering without the ugly design of the early 996s

I knew that I could count on you to produce an amazing tribute video for Porsche’s iconic 911. You did not disappoint. I would love to cross over to water-cooled years (mine’s an ancient ‘87 cab.). I personally love the 996, despite it’s racing inspired headlights. The shape just looks so much more refined... more modern. And I find those graceful lines have aged timelessly. Your video, with it’s Ideal touches was very well thought and edited. Thanks Brad.

I was bitten by the Porsche bug as a 14 year old in 1978. I saw a big shot guy in a sheepskin coat getting out of a bright orange 911 RS ducktail in city centre Manchester, England. That was an extremely rare sighting in 1970s labour government run UK, especially in the North. You cannot imagine how jaw dropping that sight was, not only to me but to many poor northern folks who just caught sight of that. Then 1979 Paul Newman came 2nd at Le Mans in a 935, I had no idea that actors raced for real until that famous Hollywood movie star stole the show at the hardest endurance race in the world. The same year I was nearly knocked down by a spaceship (928 and European Car of the year 1978) on a wintry Sunday morning whilst delivering newspapers in my neighbourhood, I would have died happy 😂. The 80s was basically 911 love/hate frustration as the flash and ignorant Yuppie community jumped on the Porsche ownership bandwagon nearly ruining its image and reputation. It was a relief to see that cliche die down by the mid 90s. I love all the supercars - Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren etc... but only a Porsche raises the hair on my neck on sight, especially the 911, that signature body shape has changed little since its birth, and it’s spectacular racing heritage only cemented it’s awesome legacy with me as I grew up. So I always raise a glass to the legendary Porsche 911 too when we celebrate our birth years together. I still cannot afford one, but soulmates we are and maybe one day we can be together... 😎🙏🏽

Suffered a mid life crisis in the mid 2000's and decided to purchase my dream car. So in 2005, I purchased a 1988 Porsche 911 3.2 Carrera Targa. It was the Commemorative model in a gorgeous Diamond Blue Metallic paint, signature head rests, short throw G50 5 speed transmission and matching Fuchs wheels. It only had 35K miles when I bought it. I LOVED that car. It was only for health reasons I had to sell it about 4 years later. It had just shy of 45K miles and sold for 7K more than I paid for it.

Great info in this video. Looking into a GT3 or GT3 RS now. The RS is so much more expensive for no reason though.

For starters , blame the California air research board for the aural difference between 993 and 996 , the fins were the conduit for the tingling ears . 993 c4s with a full 993 twin turbo exhaust from the head face to the tail pipes , I would try the same conversion on you 996 C4s .

I have a 03 996 c2 6spd coupe, 170k it was my daily driver for a decade. I still drive it but wanted an auto suv for a dd. Coil packs, water pump, starter were all that went bad in that time.

Porsche's are a great value when you line them up against any 'super car' are 'hyper car' and you compare them and 80% of the time the Porsche is cheaper and will out performs it's competitors I like the GT3 versions as my favorite with a manual transmission.

Enjoyable vid, laughed when your wife threw the egg on your car. I had a 991.1S that I loved and am looking at getting back into the Porsche world soon. Good 996 values are starting to catch up to 997.1s, and the IMS issue spans both of these generations, except the turbo Mezger motor.

996 is certainly a good deal. They’re great cars for the back roads. But the base models do not have dry sump oil recovery. Take it on the track at your own risk - oil starvation kills an engine very quickly.

Porsche enthusiasts get more and more crazier about the 911. Is just a fine product to the world's tarmac.

Pretty good video. Not EVERYTHING you need to know, however. First, The 996 GT3 and Turbo cars have a Mezger engine and thus no IMS issues... (Coolant pipe adhesive failure is another story but still...) Second, only around 750 GT3s were brought to the US in 2004 (roughly half of worldwide production) and around 200 for 2005. Total production for the 996.2 GT3 is around or slightly fewer cars than the vaunted '73 RS 2.7 You're absolutely right about the appreciation. 996.2 GT3s are rapidly heading for 6 figures. I think 996 TTs still represent good value, even though they have gone way up in the last couple years. A few years ago we got a 2004 Turbo cab with around 30K miles for less than $45K. Nothing on the planet for that price can touch the car. Note to the host... if you don't like fried eggs (who does), get rid of the stupid amber repeaters in the headlights with Philips silverlight bulbs. They light up amber and disappear in the headlight. Also, dump your amber side marker lights and get clear, again putting the silverlight bulb in there so no amber anywhere... For the doubters out there, I have a 996 Turbo Cab (X50), 6 spd, a 2004 Turbo Cab Tiptronic and a 2004 GT3 9 (you'll cry when you hear what I got that for with 18,500 miles back in 2011). If you have the right engine in the back, it doesn't matter what the headlights look like. Yes I am trying to corner the market on Mezger-engined 996s LOL!!! What other low mileage high-performance car can you buy for less than the cost of a replacement engine??? Unreal value for money! Enjoyed the video-- keep up the good work... like the choice of the C4S... probably the best deal nowadays on a great all-around 996...it is what I recommend to my friends looking for their first 911.
