Good video blokes, And would definitely like to have a video with you guys talking with your old man he seems like a really genuine good bloke who definitely raised his kids right. I had the same issue with my Hilux LSD. Was advised by Toyota dealership that the the Toyota LSD’s need to have BOTH wheels rolling in order for it to engage. As opposed to the Nissan LSD which as you found out engages straight away. So for the Toyota, you need to have some forward movement for it to engage when one wheel loses traction. The simple test was to raise one wheel off the ground and place a block under the axle, then try to drive off. The Nissan will do this, but the Toyota won’t. I now have front & rear ARB lockers instead. Another great video and am very jealous of the ‘man shed’, well done guys. 😊👍🏼

Nice one! A pit coupled with a Portable Vehicle Hoist is a (distant) second best option at around 20% of the cost. I've got a hook eye installed in the roof of my 4x4 (supported by external frame to the rails) so I can use a sky hook wherever I need the vehicle lifted. I mean, what if you need to change the clutch somewhere between here and dingo piss creek? In all seriousness, a hoist is perhaps the most labour saving device one can get for a workshop. Also, take Home Brew's comment about Dad too - if he is interested ofcourse.

Great work looks excellent, you have probably fixed the hoist already but on the video the arms aren’t balanced, you can tell when you lift the vehicle one pin clunks before the other so when you lift the car you hear clunk clunk, the adjustment is on the cable and when you either lengthen or shorten the cable adjustment. When it’s schmick as you lift the car you will have a synchronised single clunk. You probably have done it already but on this video it stands out. Always lower the car onto the stops / pins

Hey guys, great job. A ramp is worth its weight in gold. I recently installed one in my shed. Great job on the foundation . Just one thing to note, it sound like the left and right locks are engaging at different times when you raise the ramp. That is normally a sign that the cables need adjusting/fine tuning. Also pull the arms together in the middle of the two posts and make sure they are at the same height. Well done guys, from all the way at Stonehenge England
@Czechbound
@Czechbound 2 года назад
LOCKING PINS : I think best practice is not to have the hoist resting solely on hydraulic pressure. When the height is reached, it's best to release it down a fraction until it rests on the nearest locking pin

Sending 4bys up u wanna get the arms as far forwards and as far back as u can lifts them better and a lot more stable, and I could be wrong but from what I know from work when your sending the hoist up and u hear the clicks there ment to be same time if the clicks are too far apart the hoist arms are arnt all adjusted to the same height 👍
@dustyfarmer
@dustyfarmer 2 года назад
That clicking noise is the lock tab running up its rack when it's engaged, you get you the height you need & lower it onto the lock rather than leave the weight on the ram. my MOLNAR only has it on the operator side. To lower it, raise the hoist slightly, release the lock & pull the down lever. The new MOLNAR's look like they may be a little different with more electronic controls. MOLNAR was bought out by another mob a while ago & their range has changed a little bit.
@markwilmot6575
@markwilmot6575 2 года назад
It also means the carriages and arms are at different heights left to right. One side is hitting the safety lock before the other. Thus the cables need to be adjusted. To correct this.
@dustyfarmer
@dustyfarmer 2 года назад
@@markwilmot6575 I checked the MOLNAR website parts diagram & that SM245 hoist does have electronically controlled safety ratchets on both posts & yes you are correct about the carriage adjustment ideally needs to be the same for the safety latches to work. If the lifting cable failed they would still both catch & lock in.The lifting cable will stretch a little from new so carriage adjustment may have to take place several times over the next year, it's something that a hoist tech would check & set but they may service it themselves, not that hard if you know what to do & how to do it.
