@Lara They prolly totally forgot abt it, but if you see this, I am getting highlights for the first time…. If you respond and ask me in about a month I’ll tell you how it went….!
LOL, or make sure your stylist watches him too! My sister has her own salon and spa and used to be an instructor of hair and esthetics, and watches him. Me talking about hair: Did you watch thing Brad Mondo was talking about? Her: Yeah, okay but we're going to do it like the other video he did if we do it for you okay? Me: Um, okay.
Can totally relate! Ive tried so many hairdressers to get the perfect balyage and each hairdresser has just basically gave me highlights..not blended or anything😭😭
The easiest explanation for toner versus dye is this: Dye will shift the color of your hair up or down (lighter or darker), while toner will shift the existing color along the spectrum right to left (warmer or cooler). Hope this helps someone who may not still understand.
Thank you so much for this video! I am currently wanting to get highlights on my very dark hair and now I'll be able to give my stylist a much better explanation of what I want! 😍
Tip: if you have VERY fine porous hair, for some reason, they absorb the toner even if it is a lighter color. Tested on myself. You basically can color your brown hair almost blond with just a toner. Go toner and don't bleach (if not for highlights).
I love my fine porous hair for this reason - it takes dye and toner so easily. I have lots of grey and it is zero issue to cover it and keep it covered! But on the other hand.. if a hairdresser who doesn't understand it gets near it that "light brown" hairdye ends up black on my hair.
I wish I could go to your salon and get my hair done by you, it just would be so relieving to be in good hands and let the magic happen ! I never done something to my hair but I want to do highlights and I don’t trust any hairstylist here in Germany 😢
Mariana Cardoso de Oliveira Google hair salons close to you and look up the stylist insta if they post there work if some one speaks to you book a advice appt . what i like to do is show the idea of what i want for my hair (Pinterest) and built in that
Ich würde auch mal empfehlen welche auf Insta zu suchen, das hilft häufig. Es gibt hier gute Friseure in größeren Städten, aber ich verstehe total was du meinst...
Balayage is a noun derived from the verb balayer “to pass the broom” or to brush. in French. In case someone wanted to know, not sure any fox are given though.
In Paris (where all is beautiful but blonde hair of any kind will be murdered), balayage is used by french hairdressers to describe any kind of highlight and by highlight I mean saying your roots aren't long enough even at your cheekbones and by highlight I mean drenching your entire head in 40 percent volume bleach whilst claiming there is no such thing as a toner/gloss/colour.
It’s like you’re reading my mind babe bc recently I’ve been REALLY considering blonde highlights or balayage for a while and this video is fr what I neeeeeed omggg thankkkkyouuuuu
Make sure you go to someone who knows what they are doing! I got my hair done green! Balayage style and she didnt know how to do it so my hair looks... Not good
Thank you, it helps. The worse is, which is common, when you show pics and explain. Stylists are so busy indulging in their stories, with emotion that they don't fully listen, are not grounded and cant recall - so most times it doesn't end up like you had asked. When I asked for face framer highlights, I ended up with subtle darker flat 'morticia' front and dimensional hair in back instead, removing all the ranges of highlights I naturally had. Thats no bueno. But you end up leaving with your wallet lighter and now you have hair memory of all their drama. Our hair is an antennae, not to be absorbing someones' frustrations about their lovers etc. It is terrible to let someone leave with bad energy into the strands. I will not go to a stylist ever again. Maybe you'd be different Brad - but It's too common of a scenario.
I literally just got highlights today XD apparently I got partial saturation highlights. Good to know for next time. Props to my hairdresser knowing what to do when I said I want to bring summer back but still kinda winter XD
Thanks Brad. I am searching for a hair colour specialist who understands warm and cool skin tones! It doesn't matter how beautiful the colour is if it clashes with your skin tone.
I was desperate to get a haircut on Christmas Eve and the only hairdresser who was open was a korean one who barely spoke english, I got SO scared and when she started I was like I'm screwed but ended up being the best haircut I ever got
Two things: 1. I love your hair, I'm loving this look. 2. How did you know that I'm going in for balayage this weekend, you sorcerer? What perfect timing thank you
I went to a salon for a balayage and ended up with 2007 highlights. I'm literally getting it fixed next week, the lady I'm going to is supposed to be good, so hopefully this looks presentable.
@@Pandaluver67899 im going to get my hair redone! I wanted balayage green hair and nope!!! It looks like my roots grew in and i have a harsh line where the green starts and where my natural root color ends!!
Thank you so much for this video, I am looking to get highlights for the first time in my life, I have never done anything like this to my hair, no highlights or dying, or anything, so I am very nervous, but also super excited, I wanna do blonde highlights for my dark brown pixie cut, and after seeing this I definitely wanna do slicing. 😁
I was about 22 in the early 2000's and wanted "chunky" blond highlights in my dirty blond hair. The hairdresser suggested I get a light brown highlight in between... I don't know what she did wrong, but it was WHITE & BLACK!!!!😱 I looked like Corella Deville, my sisters said it made me look 10 years OLdeR. And you know your sis is going to be brutally honest... It was NOT a look🙈!!!
the same thing happened a few years ago woth my mom. she has dark brown hair, the hair stylist fucked up and bleached her hylights BRIGHT WHITE. she looked like a skunk lmao
Girl I had almost the same thing happen! All of the girls in my class had highlights and I wanted them so bad. I finally convinced my mom and she took me to her friend's salon... I walked out with Yellow Fucking Spots. Literally just random chunks of yellow. It scared me off of blonde to this day, 16 years later.
A few years ago I decided I wanted blue hair and I bleached my hair myself. And I was like omg why is my hair yellow? But then I remembered color theory and dyed it dark purple and it turned into a pretty ashy blonde. I was so happy. xD Yay for toning.
THANK YOU, BRAD! I was literally just going to apply box color on my dirty blonde hair... You saved me! I'm wayyyy old enough to know better, done it plenty of times long ago, but I'm going stir crazy being home and desperate (I actually have the box right in front of me). After seeing this I decided to wait, and go see my stylist when I can for hi-lights ("slices" to be precise, ha ha). And, since you asked, I love your hair with that color and cut! You wear it well! 😉👍 Please keep up the great, very informative, fun videos. ❤️
Tia King same , a few years ago I went to dye my hair for the first time. I had no clue of what the fuck should I do it so obviously I went to the hairdresser . They picked a nice color and now every time I go I just sit and let them do lol
When Brad said “ I don’t know anyone named root smudge!” It made me laugh so hard because it made me think of “ no I neva been to uba java. “ Anyone else??? No...just me ? 😂🤷🏻♀️
@@alexandraludanyi3795 hahahahaha "fetch" isn't getting any love in 2020 either 😂 I got the reference and no offence taken. Glad someone else has a sense of humor 😆
Hair murdering is a better description. Lifetime highlight blonde sans problem until I moved to Paris. They don't know any of these techniques and will soak hair, included already highlighted (double bleach say goodbye to that hair), in random bleach, put purple shampoo in to colour it purple and claim that's a toner, then destroy your hair. French women don't have blonde hair, any blonde in Paris is scandinavian or has a lot of airmiles! Expats spend years nursing theirs back to health and fly somewhere else.
@@lovehelen I'm personally a brunet but it's common in France to be blonde ahah ! And yeah, highlights and balayage isn't really a thing in France, but I think you can find a good hairdresser, maybe ask them to show you a picture of what they done with highlights with an another customer before taking a appointment
I have virgin hair because I have trust issues and won’t let anyone touch my hair, but I would let you do anything to my hair. You’re the only person I could trust lol
I watched this after getting highlights and I now understand why my hairdresser gave me something I didn't think I asked for... I wanted partial saturation balayage and for it to be cute and subtle natural tones (I literally showed her the exact photo Brad used for partial saturation on the left) but instead she gave me large sliced highlights up to my roots in a platinum ash tone. I left the salon in tears because the difference was a lot harsher than I wanted.
Girl, same same. I’m still soo mad but nothing can be done. U can wait abit then try again if your hair feels healthy enough. Mine is fried! Also always ask if they use olaplex at the salon or not!
How do you manage the bleached hair, which always tangle! mine are good looking but falling. Hair wash days scary these days. I wanted something that needs less maintenance instead i got into mess for I don’t know how long! Any solution to avoid tangling?
@@amansrankhangura use anything with plex technologies, I use the whole olaplex line, it's expensive but I only buy the whole lot once a year, and I use cheaper plex products in-between, and my hair feels amazing, also have you heard of L'Oréal dream lengths wonder water? It's absolutely phenomenal, you leave it on for a few minutes, it gets warm whilst it's activating, and when you rinse it out follow up with a leave in conditioner, use anything that gives you moisture, also in-between that, use something like aphogee protein treatment, because your hair needs a balance of both moisture and protein, if you have more of one or the other, then your hair goes extremely dry and knotted, these products should definitely help x 😀
I seriously need Brad to save my hair! I was in a bad car wreck two years ago in Oct 2017. & this wreck took my ability to walk for two years(still not fully walking with out assistance or I am in my wheel chair.) Was supposed to lose my leg and I have had 25 plus surgeries/procedures to get my leg to be saved. Lost my entire ankle joint and 2 inches of my tibia! Now that back story is out there. My hair is DEFINITELY showing the medical/medications/anesthesia/ect that I have had administered to me! The trauma made hair fall out right after my wreck. & when I was in the wreck I have Looooong beautiful, naturally curly, bright Red hair. I went to get the red out because I couldn’t afford to keep up with it after not being able to work anymore- due to losing my ability to walk. So.. needless to say. It has been bleached, stripped, bleached some more, toned, I had a Malibu done as well. Now, I have light orange, brown, blonde, blue, silver, golden blonde, ect in my hair. My roots are the darkest blonde and the lightest brown you can have, almost a mouse brown with streaks of all these colors I recently listed! I seriously need help.. I lost so much hair already from this entire process. I know it takes forever and many processes to get Red out. But, in all seriousness. Can we make appointments with you? Ugh. Hellllpppp me. 😩
@@EmyN I lost my entire ankle joint. Am two inches shorter in they side and can’t bend my foot or my leg fully. Might end up being amputated, sadly! But I kept pushing and am walking again, even though they said I probably wouldn’t! Thanks for sending love, dear!!b
Fun Fact : "Balayer" in French means "to sweep" (like with a broom) :-D "balayage" means "sweeped" or more literally "a sweeping" :-P. 'J'ai balayé le sol' - 'I sweeped the floor'. "Un balais" = "a broom".
Ya'll I'm having the legit worst day. My family has had so much loss in the last few months. And so much actual bullshit is happening in the world. And Brad Mondo just called me beautiful. He called all of us beautiful.
I just got my hair done and I wish I would’ve seen this before. I asked for something and my stylist didn’t understand and I got something totally different.
I’m too poor for a weave 😭 I’m gonna try to give myself some baby lights at the very least so I stop feeling flat and UG. Wish me luck 😞✌️ (I know how much my hair can handle so don’t yell at me that I’m stupid and should go to a pro because I KNOW and I’m POOR)
Wow this is a great and informative video! I knew some of the info but it gets mixed together in my head, this helped me organize some of the info and learned some new things as well!
wow my notifications worked for once I’m so early 😅 Edit: done watching but man by you talking and educating me more on highlights I have the itch to go practice and do some on my maniquin then my mom 😂 brb (btw cos student here)
I haven’t had any coloring done to my hair in 10 years, and I’m wanting to do that, and this video really helps me know what I want to communicate when I go get it done! Your videos are so helpful!! They’re so informative & you do a great job at making it easy to understand!
Lady Steele yes , for example I get them blond and my whole hair looks full blond, but the highlights still pop. But it looks good if you do it right🤷🏼♀️
