Yea it’s hilarious. I don’t know how old these guys are but I’m 37 and recognize all these things. The kool aid one had me scratching my head as to why they didn’t get it. I guess they assumed kool aid always came in the plastic can that had sugar already in it.

Kool aid has always been like that as previously mentioned. Actress also mentioned sugar was high at that point. It would also cost them more to ship it, with the kool aid. It would need a larger package to fit all the sugar. They were just cutting cost on there end. Everyone has sugar at home to add. Some great cameos in the ads. Great episode

The Almond joy confusion is getting me to actually worry about Jake’s brain. Is there a carbon monoxide leak on his side or something? Edit: Apparently Kool aid preparation is a little out of Jim’s league, so probably just put up a detector in there.

I'm younger than jomboy and unsweetened kool aid isn't crazy. We use to get the packets and add sure. They've never have sweeten kool aid packets

I remember seeing some of these in the 80s. Even that cake mix ad that looks ancient. They used to run ads for a long time. I think the Mikey ad went away and made a comeback in the 90s.

The reason for the milk dilution/doubling, was because milk and dairy prices had risen in the 70's, so people were trying to stretch what they could.

I've heard the "sometimes you feel like a nut" song enough times that I'm sure it would just come up randomly or pop in my head. However, I totally didn't remember it was for Almond Joy/Mounds. Now I can't think of what I thought it was for. Planters? It's like one of those Mandela Effect things.

Unsweetened Kool-aid was cheap as sin even in the 80s. Remember my mom getting them for like 10 for a dollar in the 80s. 5 gallons of the stuff for a buck. Just add sugar, and back then a 5 lb bag was probably like a buck, 1.50 on sale. The sweetened stuff cost much more for less.

My grandmother used to make unsweetened Kool-Aid and added sugar because back then it cost about 1/3 the amount of the sweetened Kool-aid.

Originally Kool Aid came as just the ("flavour" and colour) powder. You always provided the sugar. Years later they sold you the sugar mixed with "flavour". But at first it was a way to keep the price down (weight and cost of sugar for the company...) Now it's "convenient"...

I'm going to guess the people at Tickle marketing heard about some ladies who were using their deodorant as a sex toy. Before online shopping was invented, it was tough to obtain a real sex toy. You had to get creative with household items. The marketers leaned in. You can't say "Hey it happens to be good for masturbating!" So they made an ad that implies it without saying it. The women buying it for pleasure feel validated, like this is an acceptable thing to do, the company that makes it is even in on the joke.

I mean, when Big Sugar has already engineered their distribution system to sell 5 pound bags for 19 cents, why would you go ahead and add it to your flavor packets? You can ship out your little 3 ounce packets and sell them for 12 cents and everyone's happy that they get sugar water. I can't believe you stepped on the big line of the Life cereal commercial "He won't neat it, he hates everything."

That deodorant ad is full of innuendo. She's laughing at the idea of being pleased with the idea of big balls... Basically it's a flirty "they can try" laugh. Same with being "dry" when ya know "wet" has been slang for a long time... Way before WAP was a thing.

Kool-Aid use to not come with sugar in the packet. You had to add it... and then you'd go to someone's house and it was like 50% sugar and was syrupy as hell. Thank god they started selling it already added with the recommended amount of sugar to make it foolproof.

It's called Tickle because the extra big roller ball made it tickle when you applied it. They were the first to use an extra large ball. And of course the sexual innuendo, because it was the 70s, when all the mainstream sexually oppressed values of the 50s and 60s were being challenged in movies etc.
