@@2ndlegend125 yeah, tywin is very cunning and clever. He values intellect. Regardless that he used her as a taste tester, I think he saw Arya as a cut above the rest, and so had some respect for her, or even saw a little of himself in her. After all, he gave her advice to blend in.

It's one of the only times we hear Tywin laugh, in an extra scene I believe he also laughs when he talks to maester Pycelle outside fishing

As good as Charles Dance is, and he might be my best cast of the show, I think these scenes are made so impeccable thanks to Maisie Williams. She was so young! And yet so feisty. The way her eyes are matching with Dance's intense gaze. He told as well in interviews of how impressed he was by her.

@@OldRepublic1212 Yes, there's some silliness in the series with the beheadings I didn't like. The Starks are good beheaders because they do it themselves in one stroke, everyone else is bad beheader. Of those we've seen, Joffrey orders his executioner to behead Ned, and Theon has to take a bunch of swings. Additionally, Theon behaved like a Stark there; a Greyjoy would have drowned Ser Rodrick, not behead him.

The executioner swords existed for a reason. It takes quite a bit of skill to cut a head of in one slice with a sword tbat isnt made specifically for that task.

Excellent summary! I have to point out that the filmmakers chose to go straight from Bolton calling the Greyjoys "traitorous whores" to Theon in captured Winterfell deciding to sleep with Asha. A pretty clear comical nod from the filmmakers on their agreement.

SPOILERS FOR SEASON 3 Also in the books when Robb executed Rickard Karstark it takes him two swings. It wasnt as botched as Theon’s because he killed him on the first swing but it shows how difficult it is to take someone’s head in one swing

Agreed. He was forced to choose between his best friend or his real family. Robb treated him like an equal, but in the books Theon comes to realise that he'd always felt like he was wearing chains living with the Starks because he was there as a hostage, so from that point of view a slave shouldn't be happy with his slave life just because he's treated well.

You"re all right, Valyrian steel is more slight than iron steel, you can swing the sword easier, also Ned's sword was way bigger than any other sword in Westeros, way much easier to behead someone !

@@Scottington666 you should listen to “Dan Carlin’s Hardcore History, Painfotainment” Beheading is more of then than not, NOT clean. Just cause it’s a swords doesn’t actually mean anything. Large, HEAVY axes, specifically used for their weight and chopping ability, even those do not always work well. OP has a point.

Pretty sure there's nothing mediocre about Theon's sword, but it's a sword and it's not made for beheading people.

He turns enemies into allies. SPOILERS!!! He recruits renlys banner men rather than executing them, AND he incorporates Wildlings into his army. 4. He judges people based solely on merits. He mad Davos, a lowborn peasant, a lord and hand. 5. He’s recognises the danger. He believed he’s the only one that can lead the realm to survival. He doesn’t want the thrones so he can prance about in silk. 6. SPOILER - Upon his death in the show, he is literally the most forward man at the front of his army as they are attacked. He’s also one of the last standing. He doesn’t run or hide. He died with his men. Did he have his flaws? Yes. Everyone does. But he only ever did what he believed NEEDED to be done. The hard truth is.. Stannis would have been the best outcome for the realm.

Dance has always been fantastic. But yea, he gives Tywin an authenticity you just cannot question. Of course he's ruthless and sadistic, but you can see that it in his reality, he simply has to be.
