Peter Pan is based on a series of books. The character of Captain Hook was based on a real person, though. Personally I believe this was Disney's greatest works. It was a great challenge for the animators to animate them levitating like that and they pulled it off beautifully. I remember watching this with my paternal grandmother, who was Native American, and she actually sang the songs the natives sang in Kiowa. She was smart to remind me that this movie was made at a time where they didn't quite understand how much of an impact negative stereotypes against Native Americans were. But she wanted me to admire the beauty of the movie because she was a huge Disney fan. And this was one of my most favorite movies growing up. I guarantee you will love Hook but have some tissues ready because Robin Williams portrayal as Peter always makes viewers cry.

Walt Disney himself loved the play, he toured production of it once and even played the role of Peter Pan in one play of it, claiming that he was the most passionate actor to portray the character. I also don't care how bad the portrayal of the natives may be, as a kid growing up there really weren't "that many" protagonists "of color" out there, and Tiger Lily always projected to me a sense of dignity and strength that was admirable and worthy of emulating. I can understand why so many people have issues with the depiction overall, but Tiger Lily herself really deserves more love (she's also the only character who isn't deliberately or outwardly mean to Wendy - we see her kissing Peter but its made pretty clear she's not aware of Wendy's feelings for him and that she's not doing it out of spite but out of gratitude).

Seeing you watching those classics is like reliving childhood… Anyway, on to fun facts! The voice actress for Wendy is also voice actress for Alice from Alice in Wonderland. She served as model for animating both characters. In the original ‘Peter Pan’ play, Peter was originally portrayed by a woman. In here, his voice actor also served as model for animation. In the original play, Captain Hook and Mr. Darling were portrayed by same actor. This is also the case in this movie. Anyway, since you’re starting Peter Pan now, I’m glad you liked the second movie (personal favorite sequel) and I don’t know whether you’ll watch Hook, but please, consider watching 2003 live action too. It takes inspiration from the book in some ways. Take care, and hope you have a good day!!! 😁

I still don’t have my ipad with all of the facts on it so here is what I am going by memory. So the voice of George Darling and Captain Hook is the same actor which is playing in tradition of the play where both were played by the same actor. Before the Disney film Peter Pan was always played by a woman including the most famous one being Mary Martin, In the original story Tinker Bell drinks poison meant for Peter and the people in the audience are supposed to clap their hands to keep her alive and Walt had wanted to implement that idea in the film, but wasn’t sure how to do it so it was scrapped. The voice of Wendy is the same actress of Alice in Alice in Wonderland and the voice of the mother here voiced her sister in Alice in Wonderland. In original story drafts for the film it was much darker and nana also went with the children to Neverland. One deleted song from the film that still ended up made is “Never Smile At A Crocodile” which would have played whenever Tick Tock Croc showed up: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ZGkdcpTY1QI.html

The dog in this movie is called Nana, and the one in the sequel is called Nana 2. Either they got another St Bernard after Nana died or she had puppies and they kept one. I’m thinking it might be the first one which is quite sad to think about 🥺 I’m thinking it was some time after Nana died, and they got another St Bernard when Jane was a baby, so they got Nana 2 to be a nurse maid just like Nana was

At some point you have to watch “Hook”. It’s essentially a live-action sequel starring Robin Williams as a grown up Peter Pan who has essentially grown up and forgotten what it means to be a kid. It goes a lot deeper into the original lore of the books, but it simultaneously a lot more faithful to the Disney movie than most adaptations. It’s interesting.

Like with the jungle book, I had wished Wendy didn’t leave so she could be with Peter, but I understand why she left. She was ready to grow up and pass on the stories her mother and Peter told her to her own children. “Growing old is mandatory. Growing up is optional”

For answer to your questions, Wendy is 12 years old and in this times, having her own room means started to learn how to be a lady like her mother (so it explains why they're shocked). About the second movie, Wendy appears on it but as an adult and a mother of two children. It's her daughter Jane who goes to Neverland in this one. Also, the dog isn't the same but Nana's puppy because her name is Nana junior. I advice to, first to rewatch the second movie, but also watching the " Peter Pan " movie of 2003 (the relationship between Peter and Wendy is more clear) and " Neverland " who counts the story of James Matthew Barrie, the author of the original " Peter Pan " with Johnny Depp in the principal rôle.

I’m glad you enjoyed this film. I understand you have been told many of the origins of the story Peter Pan. I don’t know if you knew this, when every time someone performed the production of Peter Pan a portion of money that is paid to for the license goes straight to the Children’s Great Ormond Hospital. I used to watch this movie a lot growing up. And I’ve watched about every film adaptions of this wonderful story. I’ve been in 2 stage adaptions of this story. My favorite character has always been Smee. If you can there is a film recording of the original musical production that the author J.M. Barrie wrote that stars Mary Martin. There’s also full version starring Cathy Rigby. Also the dog Nana is actually based on the authors own Saint Bernard. One of the shows I did which was written by our director, we actually had a person play both the dog Nana and Mr. Barrie’s own dog. Because we had him narrating as if he was writing the story before our own eyes. 💚💛🏴‍☠️⚔️🧚🏻

Two things I'd like to say about this movie: One; there is this very subtle joke Smee says during the scene where he's about to give Captain Hook a clean shave, that until a couple of years ago, I hadn't picked up on. Smee has just shooed away Tick Tock Croc(that's the croc's name btw) and he says, "they'll be no hand outs today." It's such dry humor but, I love it. 😂 And two; speaking of the croc, there is a deleted song from this movie that I highly recommend having a listen to sometime. Well technically, the tune was used in the film but, the version with the lyrics was not. Anyway It's called, "Never Smile at a Crocodile." I should specify because I guess there is a "restored version." Look up the OST version, not that one. That being said, I get a bit of a chuckle out of it every time I listen to it.

An interesting theory I heard once was that Captain Hook and the other pirates used to be some of Peter Pan's lost boys. It's a very dark theory based off the books that Peter Pan's lost boys unlike him are not immortal like him. That Pan remains a child by taking the lives of children when they get too old. So the theory goes that sometimes the children he tries to kill escape from him and continue to grow up and they became pirates together. It also explains Captain Hook and his crew's great devotion to taking out Pan and the Lost Boys. Cause any of the children that follow Pan are then supporting their attempted murder that has killed hundreds of other children. It is also why Captain Hook offered to have the children join his crew. He isnt interested in hurting innocents, but if you support the murderer then you are a threat to his only real family....not sure how much I buy into it, but it is interesting none the less and kinda makes me feel bad that Pan tramatized him by feeding his hand to that crocodile that is constantly looking to devour the rest of him!👀👀👀🤷‍♀️

Here’s how the rights for this one worked. Over 100 years ago a guy named James Barry wrote a play called Peter Pan. It was so popular that he wrote a book called Peter and Wendy and a couple other books in a series. However, he did not wish to keep the rights for himself. Instead he made sure all the proceeds went to the Great Ormond Street hospital for children. Even after the copyright for his book expired, the British government campaigned to make sure that the Great Ormond Street Hospital continued to receive benefits from any remake of a Peter Pan story.

The actress playing Wendy is Kathryn Beaumont, who was also the lead in Alice In Wonderland, two years prior to this role. If you listen carefully to Wendy's voice, she actually does sound like a slightly older Alice. Another note - did you notice Tiger Lily had a more realistic skin tone than her tribe? The movie's portrayal of Native Americans (although to be fair, they aren't totally real because they come from Neverland) came under huge controversy. It doesn't help by saying their skin is red because the first one blushed and it made their genetics change to blush all the time. I just see it as a period piece and as a kid, never really took the Indians seriously as a portrayal of any native tribes, but almost 70 years later, you know that this would not fly today. Also, to be fair, Tinker Bell didn't sell out her best friend completely. She first insisted Captain Hook not harm Peter, but he used the Exact Words and didn't touch him. In the book, it was a poisoned cake she ate to stop him from eating it himself, but the movie changed it to a bomb.

You're not mistaken about the second one. Jane (the main girl of the second) is taken to Neverland because she is mistaken to be Wendy due to how much they look alike.
