EDIT - IMPORTANT - when i made this i was super new to patreon and made mistakes so i do NOT have a full Length version for this movie on patreon unfortunately /:
Matty, SCREAM is a horror Masterpiece. I saw this movie in 1996 in theaters, it was one of the best movie experiences of my young adult life. I was 20. A great cast of young Hollywood actors. A very very smart screenplay. The horror tropes in the plot, brilliant. I loved it. Directing magnetic. Director was Wes Craven . He passed away in 2015. R.I.P. Wes. SCREAM gets 5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ for bloody, funny, scary, and intense. Have a great day or night.
It is KILLING ME that all of these younger kids are spoiling/ruining Scream for themselves by watching Scary Movie first! There's no way to stop it from happening I suppose but it hurts my Scream-loving-heart because this movie is SO MF GOOD.
@@MuskBalla03 Unless the avergae person was stupid in the 90s, there's no way you should have doubted Billy being involved until the part where Ghostface stabs him in front of Sidney. Up to that point, he appeared quickly after Sidney escaped the killer, had the phone found in his pocket, proceeded to act weird, Randy called him a killer, and showed up seconds after Rose McGowan's murder. He had killer written all over his forehead. It was obvious.
@@x-man9473 I think that’s the point tho, they made him a clear suspect and then when he gets ‘killed off’ it’s surprising and then you see him again and think ‘oh wait’ because this movie did the trope of it was too obvious so people start to doubt it and then make people think it’s him again to take that away and then it is him, it more plays with you and the main twist was there was two killers more than anything because when this came out people only thought there was one.
Gale is definitely a character you learn to love throughout the franchise, she a bad bitch haha loved this reaction man. Can't wait for your scream 2, 3 and 4 reaction if you do them 😁 Scream 5 is also due January 2022!
ironically scary movie was actually the original title for scream during production but they changed it because of marketing reasons at the last minute. because the producers thought scream was a better title.
Only the mask. Initially the costume was white but later they made it black and added fringes to give the ghostface a flowy ghostly look like he's levitating in the air.
Ye while I don't find the Scream movies scary as such they have lots of suspense! Plus the opening to this one is best horror opening in my opinion anyways lols x
So Scream is a technically a critique and parody of 80s and 90s horror movies/slasher films by itself, which is was part of the reason Scary Movie was so funny, It's a spoof of a parody with added elements of. I Know What You did Last Summer" and cameos of several 90s TV actors (like Dawson from Dawson's Creek).
Yeah man Stu is Matthew Lillard aka Shaggy from Scooby-Doo He Currently Voicing Shaggy in The Scooby-Doo Animated Movies and Series after The OG Legendary King of Cartoon Voice Acting Casey Kasem passed away years ago
You aren’t sure if Scream would perform well? Haven’t you looked at other reaction channels before? Scream always performs extremely well. Watching Scary Movie first was a punch in the face to yourself. It would have been even funnier had you watched it after.
While I did appreciate you being forthcoming about your aversion to horror/slasher movies, it feels like ur ability to enjoy each character is affected by having to comment on the movie and your comparisons to Scary Movie. For example, in that scene of Dewey and Gale speaking for the first time outside the high school, you make a passing comment about liking Doofy more than Dewey, which kind of indicates that ur not really zoned into the movie. I say this because Dewey and Gale's chemistry is really great in this. They offset each other perfectly. Also, Dewey is a pretty likeable character in this and anchors the movie. In order to have the kills mean more, you need to have your cast have likeable attributes. So, for a window of time we think Dewey died, that raises the seriousness of the situation. He also makes Gale more likeable because she seems softer with him (at first to use him but then actually it seems real). So her possible death is also high stakes because we like her more than we did at the beginning. Just seems like maybe commentary in general leads to people not picking up on subtlety or the nuance deliveries of characters, which I find in every movie is the most captivating parts. Good luck with everything.
The Ghostface Costume existed before this movie. In the screenplay the killer was described as wearing a Ghost mask. They found the costume in like attic or bedroom while they were location scouting. So they liked the costume so much and the attempts that their costume department had at trying to make it were that good so they called up Fun World who makes the costume and licensed it.
Of course Scream will perform well, look at every other reaction channels and the movie is often in the top. Sadly watching the spoof before the original film lessened both movies for you. :/ (also referencing Scary movie at each scenes will make some Scream fans salty, trust me lol.)
@@zachharris3040 I love it, well the first one, because I love Scream and I think the spoof is hilarious but the problem is that a lot of people from younger generation tend to watch the spoof before the real thing not even knowing it is 90 percents a spoof of Scream. These kind of mistakes happen to everyone, many people just want to watch a movie and not having to do research before.
@@taitasitoomalatai6287 Scream fans are really into anything Scream related, because well there is nothing like it, really. In a way I think the movies are under appreciated by the mainstream audience nowadays but people who know these movies and understand them tend to really really love them. They are classics.
The mask did exist prior to the movie. A company called fun world had a line of those masks called fantastic faces in the 90s. Several years before Scream one of the producers stumbled upon the mask by accident in 1996 while scouting locations for the film.
15:45 The mask was from a set of masks in 1992 called "fantastic faces" the robe, however, was made for the movie. You can actually tell that in some scenes, they are using a different mask. This was because they hadn't gained the rights to use the mask yet, so they made a knockoff version. This is most evident in the opening scene, and Principal Himbry's death.
When this came out, drew Barrymore was such a big name and they marked the hell oit of this using her...then she just dies in the opening scene. Was such a twist
27:48 6 full seconds For six full second Ghostface just stands there watching Kenny the camera man react to his throat sliced. ...Six full seconds Wow very memorizing
The first movie anyway. I enjoy both Scream and Scary Movie. Both are satires of horror movies, one is more of a spoof while the other plays it straight.
The Ghostface mask was in circulation as a Halloween costume for several years before Scream producer Marianne Maddalena stumbled upon it by accident in 1996 while scouting locations for the first film.
@@SaidByTy Ok thank you for the info I had this part wrong, I'm not sure it was easy to find these worldwide at that time though or at least not as widespread as after the movie of course.
I'm sure someone has said it but, while the costume was created for the movie, the mask was not. The mask was and still is property of Fun World and the original sculpt used in the first movie was part of a line called Fantastic Faces. There was a lot of back and forth between production and the costume company. Fun World said no, production made a knock-off and started filming with that, then Fun World agreed and they had to go to reshoot almost the entire movie. Worth it. It's a great mask.
The mask existed before the film. Since about 1989 or so. It’s made by FunWorld. The original tag said “Fantastic Faces”. The mask they used was called “Weeping Ghost” or “Peanut Eyed Ghost”. The script called for a mask that was a ghost like face or white. So it just so happened when they were location scouting for the film when they saw the mask in a kid’s room. So they went to get the rights to use it. But FunWorld didn’t agree until some of the opening was filmed. So you can see the KNB version the production tried to make as a “copy”. The robe was made up just for the movie though. The initial idea was to have it all be white. But it was a little too KKK and not stealthy. The rest is history!
Hey, love the video. Based off your profile picture, I am going to assume you're from the bay area. This movie was actually filmed in the North Bay, more specifically Sonoma County, which is where I'm from. Just a fun fact if you didn't know.
I think they made Doofy the real killer in Scary Movie because of that fan theory that was around for the longest time that Dewey was the third killer in Scream.
Since you saw Scary Movie... The principal here was played by Henry Winkler known for playing the Iconic character the Fonz on an iconic 70's sitcom Happy Days. While in Scary Movie the principal was played by an actor David Lander an actor from a Happy Days spin off called Laverne and Shirley.
it's so funny because the actor who plays randy, his real name is jamie so when he's saying "jamie look behind you" when he was watching the movie and the killer was behind him, so iconic. also another iconic moment is when billy and stu were talking to cindy on the phone, and the actor who plays billy threw the phone because he was upset that they had to do the scene over and over again to finally get it perfect. the phone wasn't supposed to hit the actor who plays stu which is why he went off script after and said what he said.
@@sorryimananti-romantic7513 No I realized that my comment probably came off as rude but then I saw a reaction to Scary Movie and they called her Cindy in that...I just figured that I was mistaken and you were referring to Scary Movie...
Everything I'm about to say comes from the Blu-ray of Scream 1996. The audio commentary by director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. Let's get the name thing out away because this has more in common with Scary Movie when you think. Because in the audio commentary the writers says the original name for this movie was actually Scary Movie. But it got changed to Scream later on now when it comes to how Wes Craven got involved as director. They talk about how he was not the first choice by the movie studio they went through other directors first. But every one of them turned it down because they did not take this as an actual serious horror movie. To the point that even the movie studio asked for if it was a serious horror movie. Then it got to Wes Craven and he agreed to work on it right away. Now when it comes to the ghost face costume. They talk about how they found the mask at a garage sale or something. Then they tried to make their own version but they went with that one got permission to use it. So the ghost face mask was the only part that was a real Halloween costume before this movie. They put together the rest of the costume on the set of the movie. To make the mask more scary so they figured let's do that by putting the person wearing it and all black. So all you see is the white mask you see nothing human whatsoever just that white mask. So the ghost face costume as it is now known was made first for this movie then it became a Halloween costume for sale after the movie. The killer wiping off the knife was not in the script they said the stuntman who wore the costume. Because being it was pretty much a stuntman the entire time in the costume. Obviously because of all the hits they took and falls but he wiped off the knife blade on his own without being instructed to. Wes Craven seen that an was like that's staying in the movie. So that's how that whole thing got started with the killer wiping off the knife. They also only killed the principal off for one reason the movie studio told them. Its been 30 minutes and no one has died someone needs to die. So they went let's kill off the principal and have the Killer put his body on display. That way it helps the story along because they needed a excuse for the majority of kids to leave a party. So they let's use the principal as an excuse to draw the kids away from the party to see his dead body. So the movie studio said someone had to die and they used it to their advantage. Now when it comes to a garage door kill actually you could get through that pet door easily. They said when they whore not filming that people whore taking turns to. See if someone would actually get stuck something like that and no one got stuck. So the actress Rose McGowan actually could and did get through the pet door quite easily she had to fake getting stuck. Now about this being able to happen in real life. Yea that actually kind of happened someone got the ghost face costume. Then actually did kill somebody in that manner so there actually was. A real ghost face murder in real life sadly because they copied it from the movie.
I don't want to come off as too negative or anything, but I'm scratching my head at your reasoning for choosing to do Scary Movie before Scream. Scream was one of the most influential horror films from the '90s. It was the highest-grossing slasher film until 2018. Its success alone should have been a good indicator of how it would perform in a reaction video. But the damage is done, I guess.
it's just because scary movie was trending so I had to do it for the channel and it did really well relative to my channel. I had no idea popular scream was tho. Growing up it just seemed like another movie. I really wish I saw scream before scary movie now!! I watched scream 2 and that twist got me lol I uploaded scream 2 but just waiting for it to be cleared!
It was already a costume. They wanted to costume to be in the movie but the costume makers asked too much for the rights. so they tried to create their own version (you see it in the opening and in the principal murder scenes. Smaller mask, slimmer eyes and mouth...) But they didnt really liked it so they went back to the costume retailer or wtv (after using the real costume without the rights in some scenes) and they accepted to let Wes use the mask in exchange of them mentionning the company who made the mask in the end credits. Honestly its been win-win for both party. The movie got an iconic costume and the costumes sales blew up because of the movies.
I'm glad you liked this film, which I honestly didn't expect a reaction to in the first place. If you ever do a poll on it, Scream 2 would certainly have a good chance of being chosen by the Patreons, while I'm not so sure about the rest (Part 3 was rather disappointing for me after the first successful sequel).
You should also react to the movies they mentioned and referenced in Scream: Halloween, The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Psycho. You have to watch the very first ones, the originals. These are legendary horror movies that people love watching reactions to. Plus these are movies that you MUST see for yourself if you haven’t already.
The channel with the girl that's scared of everything she does lots of horror movies where she's screaming and crying lol!!!!! Great reactions lol!!!!!
The reason they said it was long overdue is cus Gayle never spoke to GF on the phone all calls went to Sid or other new final girls GF called her in scream 2 but randy picked up so that’s why they made it a big thing cus in all this time she never got a call
First of all, this reaction is awesome! Obsessed with these movies! Second of all, what camera do you use man? This video is so crystal clear it’s insane! Lol
Fun fact when the ghostface killer stabs their victim. Stu holds 2 hands on the knife and Billy holds one. So you can figure who is killing who. Also Billy chokes people which means that the opening scene ghostface was Billy.
Not entirely true. The stuntmen were the ones that did the character work for Ghostface and made those decisions. And they didn't make those decisions based on who was meant to be under the mask.
It’s not a Mormon ad that Randy’s talking about. In scary movies, the Virgin like nice characters always live and the noticeably sexually active people who drink and do drugs always die. Lol.
You gotta do the rest of them bro 2, 3 and 4 since the new one comes out in January which looks amazing. It’s one of the most consistent franchise that provides a good film each time. Definitely check them out I think you’ll enjoy them for sure. ✊🏽
@@mattyreacts I just saw that you uploaded part 2 bout to the check that out now! Glad you enjoy the movies bro, definitely one of my favorite franchises. Definitely gotta check out 3 and 4. 🤟🏽
you should react to Hereditary, it came out in 2018 so it has a big fan base and it will be good for your channel, it’s scary as fuck (in my opinion) but it’s such a good movie
No it wasnt, it was inspired by only. As in a masked killer with a knife or some weapon. Story is not true at all. Big difference. He didnt wear a halloween costume or call teenagers on the phone with a voicebox. His victims were random ppl.
@@MuskBalla03 When the Creator himself says His film was based off those events that took place then it is the hell😂 Not everything that's based on real life events or loosely inspired by something it has to be done entirely the same or identical to what actually happened to those teen students, that's like saying IT was not based on true event with John Wayne🤭 all because it's not told the same way doesn't mean that there was no inspiration it.
Gary Moore was the opening girl so the big twist to this movie and all movies or a lot of them that came afterwards was that because she was the biggest star at the time and was on the cover poster for the movie everybody thought well this is gonna be a Drew Barrymore movie she’s gonna be the final girl she’s gonna make it till the end, so when they got her ass in the first 10-15 min everyone was like holy shit nothing is like usual for this movie
Actually this plot twist was Drew's idea. She was actually hired to play Sidney but when Wes Craven was let go of the original movie before Neve was brought on...Drew threatened to quit and they brought him back and she suggested to him that she play Casey instead "because no one will expect me to die in the first 5 minutes." I saw an interview where she explained how it came about
@@Alex-gr8lv yeah I knew all that but what I seen recently is that they wanted a big name to be the opening kill so it was Drews idea for her to take it but if the Article with Kevin Williamson is to be believed he already had the idea to do the same thing either way Drew killed it and I think made this franchise with that opening Kel, but I don’t think any other bigger name celebrity at that time would’ve been able to do I think it had to be Drew to of made the impact that it has and still has
This comment has probably been put 1000 times but the costume is highly based on a real life one, you can see the real mask in the margining when Casey gets stabbed and when the principle gets stabbed, you can tell with the weird eyes and triangle nose besides the more skeleton looking nose it has in all the movies, pretty sure the original name was father death, you can also see that name on the package. Love these movies so I know I lot of random facts 😅
yes, i did photography before the channel so i use a Sony a7r4 with a sony 20mm f1.8 lens , shoot in S log 3 at 24 Fps 4k 100mbs , prob gon get a a7S3 or A74 idk yet or when cos im broke lol
On the audio commentary for this movie with the director Wes Craven and writer Kevin Williamson. They talk about and state they found the mask at a garage sale or something like that first. Then after getting the mask figured out an how they were going to. Use that mask because they tried making different versions of their own first. They figured out the rest of the costume on the set of the movie. So you're partly correct the mask was a real Halloween mask but the entire costume was not a real costume. Before the movie was made they made it for the movie first based off the mask. Because they went how can we make this white mask scarier than it occurred. To them let's put the person behind it and all black. So all you really see is the white mask an nothing else. That why you can't tell or see anything of the person behind the mask or in the costume. Then the ghostface costume became a real costume for sale. Everything is on the audio commentary for Scream 1996 on the Blu-ray. From the director Wes Craven and it's writer Kevin Williamson so its 100% fact because they would know. Because they made the movie and they would admit it was a costume first but they only said the mask was a Halloween mask. But there was no costume for it until they made it first for the movie.
26:54 The killers were sadistic fucks & got off on trying to create a real horror movie so they set up that house so the chase and kills would end up the way they planned to create their movie. the attic windows all nailed shut except the one they placed the boat under conveniently to aid Sid's escape. Remember the goal wasnt to kill Sidney right away; it was to torture her with grief and fear as punishment for her mom's sins. 22:46 for instance they planned on killing Tatum in the garage door.. this is why the side door is blocked off with boxes (its right to the left of the house door) and why he cut her arm instead of stabbing her. he wanted to threaten & scare her enough she would try to squeeze thru the doggy door of the automatic garage door that they disabled the safety sensors on.
You should react to the different slasher franchises (Halloween, Scream, Friday The 13th, Nightmare On Elm Street etc.), however, if you do that my advice would be to watch the whole franchise (don't listen to people who say "skip 'X'") and then move on to the next franchise.
