Hey everyone hope you enjoyed the reaction! Once again so sorry for the large watermark, tried really hard to get this passed copyright and this watermark was the only way besides putting it in the middle of the screen which I prefer not to do! See you next for Spider Man Into The Spider-Verse!
I never even thought about that 😂😂 Imagine Just chilling at home and then you suddenly transform into another creature. How confusing that must’ve been 🤣
Fun Fact: A couple of kids during a test screening asked writer and director Andrew Adamson what Dragon turned into after donkey drank the magic potion. Adamson said that Dragon turned into a Pegasus (a horse with wings)
The "I Need A Hero" sequence is probably the best action scene in animated film history. The music is perfect, and the action is fast paced and comedic.
It took me centuries to realize the king and queen were the princess and the frog. I think the lore is Harold was in debt to fairy godmother for his happily ever after, which led into Fiona's ogre curse. The Shrek series is so we'll written 😩
The whole "Are we there yet?" is one of my favorite moments in the film. Another one I remember is during the Giant Gingerbread Man walking through town, when he grabs a giant cup and than everyone inside that Starbucks version of Far Far Away runs away towards the other Starbucks on the other side of the street.
The Shrek franchise didn't use Disney properties. They used fairy tales, something that Disney did quite a bit. Otherwise they'd make an allusion to Disney's works, like the Beauty and the Beast characters. And the "I Need a Hero" sequence is one of my favorite moments in the entire series. They made great use of the song, and the whole fight getting to Fiona always has me tearing up at times. Mongo losing his arms and sinking, then Puss staying back to buy Shrek and Donkey time, not knowing if he'll be okay, it hits me solidly in the feels. And the scene with Shrek going to see the Fairy Godmother, he made good use of the Trope "Bavarian Fire Drill", sneaking in with the union trick, and then using a disguise that probably only worked because they thought he was affected by one of the potions (a possibly common occurrence). That was a fun scene. And human Shrek may have changed, but I'd bet he still had his strength. I sort of wish he'd have had to fight Charming, with Charming being hopelessly outmatched. Shrek breaks the sword, Charming punches him to *no effect whatsoever,* and Shrek just shoves him back or tosses him aside like a baseball. That would have been a better lead up to the Godmother casting her spell at him, and it'd show how hard he'd fight for Fiona.
Yea, makes me realise that not everyone has heard of the borthers grim's fairy tales regarding where so many stories came from. It gave me a little cringe inside when Nick said "They're referencing so many disney movies" but another time has no clue who thumbelina was. I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't know the fairytale of puss in boots either. Dear Nick,...go read some fairy tales please :)
@@CptApplestrudl Fairytales were my childhood and I still love dicovering new ones so it really shocks me how some people don’t even know THE most well known out there like Thumbelina and Puss in Boots. Maybe it’s cuz he’s american?
Nick seeing Puus in boots charm technique: That's got to be the cutest face ever! Wait till you see the Puss in Boots short spin off. Multiple cats using it, but puss going next level!
I love how in the first movie, every time when somebody tried to sing a song, they got stopped for the sake of a joke. And in this one, the only person that gets to sing her own song uninterupted is the villain DreamWorks' is really shoving in their hatred for Disney
I wouldn’t say it’s hatred as it is a riff on Disney but not in an overly antagonistic way, besides the guy who founded DW who only hated Disney cuz he got fired for trying to get promoted to a position almost immediately after the guy who held it prior died (basically harassing execs to take the role while the ppl who knew the old guy was mourning his death). That’s why he made the main antagonist of the previous film based off the one who denied him the position. I also don’t think they hate Disney cuz with shrek 3 (spoilers) . we can see they treat all the princesses based of Disney properties nice, but the one who hadn’t had a movie based on them yet was bad. Most of the jokes in these movies are rather chill
Well, it's not like we didnt have any in character singing. Both movies had their ending songs and out of character songs as well, like Allstar and Hallelujah.
I know this might seem surprising for you, but Disney isn't the only company to not only have a lot of movies that are fairytales, but also has adaptations of those fairytales. Disney doesn't own them; just movies like Zootopia.
I swear, the whole Shrek movie franchise is so iconic. The characters, for the most part, are just simply unforgettable. Especially Donkey. I know for sure that he really delivered his role to the fullest!
The villain, the climax, the entire story is all a million times better than the first one. -Also the one that cursed Fiona is actually the Fairy Godmother so when her son Charming came it would be him to break the spell. -The voice of the stepsister in the pub is the late Larry King -The two tiny characters on the red carpet are Tom Thumb and Thumbelina they are supposed to be tiny characters from literature. -The one hosting the red carpet event is a parody of Joan Rivers a late great comedian. -Even though we never see Dragon as her transformed self it is believed she became a Pegasus. -The reason Fairy Godmother was destroyed is she saw her worst fear. -Puss in Boots is voiced by Antonio Banderas and the character is a parody of his previous role of Zorro. -When the guards are blowing their horns at Shrek’s swamp the one goes off doing his own he is playing the opening music for the tv theme song Hawaii Five-0.
The fairy godmother is not the witch who cursed Fiona. This is a commonly repeated false fact. The witch who cursed Fiona was a witch. Fairy Godmother is not a witch. She is a Fairy.
That's how you feed into trolling. Just ask Vivziepop. She's constantly apologizing. Just don't give a shit about what people will think and do what you think is best.
45:30 Did you notice that the people fleeing the "Starbucks" being attacked by Giant Gingerbread Man were going straight to the other "Starbucks" right across the street!
Lmao, the poke in the ribs that they're literally everywhere. Fun fact: the first Starbucks location resides in Seattle Washington, I live nearby but I haven't visited it yet.
This is the best in the Shrek franchise, although lots of people seem to hate the third movie while I just think it is okay, glad you are watching all of them!
@@GreatOldOne9866 Same. It's my least favourite but it's still alright, just not my favourite. Same with the Indiana Jones movies. For most people they hate Crystal Skull the most, for me it's Temple of Doom. Po-tay-to, po-tat-o.
@@ronweber1402 I was fine with Crystal Skull too. Nah, it isn’t perfect either, I was for the most part just annoyed with how CLEAN that movie was. Throughout that entire adventure, you can see they’re going through all that action and when it’s over, they’re still clean and tidy. Where’s in the other films, Indi is covered in dirt and blood and sh*t. And there wasn’t any, “when I get out of these ropes, I’m gonna break your nose,” lines. He killed the bad guys. I’m sure there are a lot more issues, such as him surviving in the refrigerator. But I’m not much of an Indi fan either, so I really don’t care.
I personally find shrek 4 less enjoyable than shrek 3, mostly cuz I felt the premise was played out by then. But yeah, the whole franchise is pretty good and I do think shrek 2 is the best in the series
Nick, maybe you should read Grimm's Fairytales or other versions because Disney didn't create those stories. Some are based of folklore/ fairytales from centuries ago (Snow White, Cinderella, etc.), some are based off history/ legends (Mulan, Pocahontas, etc.), and some are based off Hans Christan Andersen books (The Little Mermaid, Frozen, etc.). In fact, a lot of Disney's movies aren't original ideas. The Lion King is based on Hamlet, Treasure Planet is based on Treasure Island, Atlantis is based on the legend of Atlantis, etc. There's only a handful of movies they've made that are completely original like Zootopia and Lilo and Stitch.
You picked a great one, man! This film really blows the original Shrek out of the water! The returning characters are more memorable, the new characters are fantastic, it has much stronger comedy, the story is a massive improvement, the music is beautiful, and it’s the best looking film in the series! Shrek will never reach this level of popularity with the general public ever again. Shrek 2 will never be topped! My second favorite comedy of all time behind the original 1984 Ghostbusters!
These aren't Disney properties, by the way. These fairy tales are on the public domain. Anyone can make their version of these characters, but they don't own the original. So this movie could use as many fairy tales as they want as long as they don't plagiarize art or dialogue from Disney or any other version of these characters.
The "I need a hero" scene is so so so so SO GOOD! First of all, you're rooting for Shrek to win while he fights the royal guards. Second, you're extremely tense for Fiona because she is not supposed to kiss Charming. Third, the king is having an existential crisis because he wants the best for her daughter and the best is obviously not Charming and to TOP IT OFF Fairy godmother is singing I need a hero because she thinks her son and herself ARE the heroes of the story but WE (the audience) know the hero is Shrek!!! You can make a perfect scene and THIS IS IT!!!💞 Omg, and I almost forgot. This movie gave us ✨Doris✨
Did you know in Shrek 2 where Shrek, Donkey and Puss enters the potion factory there’s a picture of a witch to a fairy. Which means that Fairy Godmother was a witch before she’s a fairy and to answer who curses on Fiona. The answer was the Fairy Godmother when Fiona was young and explained to Donkey in the first movie about her curse
Nick, they're not Disney properties. They'd get sued if it were. They are popular fairy tales Disney made into movies, and Dreamworks designed theirs to look similar to the Disney versions. Because its a parody
But heavily based on/pastiching the Disney interpretations, just staying on the right side of copyright! Certainly that Little Mermaid had a distinctive familiar look....
The bonus features on it's DVD were iconic ✨ It had an interactive game called Far Far Away Idol where an animated Simon Cowell was a judge alongside Shrek & Fiona 😂 If you didn't vote for one of the main characters or voted for a contestant that sung badly Simon would announce himself the winner and sing My Way by Frank Sinatra...it was wild 🤣
The Cops parody is a standout for me, mostly because of the crazy attention to detail. From the shaky cam, to the police choppers being replaced with hot air balloons, to the fact that their version of pepper spray is literally just grinding pepper into someone's face. It's all gold!
One thing that I completly forgot is the fact that since Donkey drink the potion, wouldn't effect Dragon too? According to the creators, she turn into a giant pink pegasus, which would match perfectly with Donkey stallion appereance. Now does that effect the Dronkeys too when she was pregnant? No one knows.
The Spanish dub of this movie is the funniest thing Ive ever seen 🤣 the perks of growing up at grandmas house and Telemundo plays Shrek 2 on Sundays 🤣🤣🤣
Your reactions are so pure and so fun to watch, I love them! Shrek 2 is one of the very rare sequels that is better than the original, and while Shrek 3 is my least favorite, my controversial opinion is that Shrek 4 (aka: Shrek Forever After) is just as good as Shrek 2. I'm so excited to see you react to the rest of the series, this is one of my favorite movie franchises out there!
I haven't left a comment in a long time (mostly bc i never know what to comment😅) but i just wanna say i really enjoy all your videos 💕 Thank you so much for all the effort and dedication you put on them, you're really my favorite reactions channel and watching your videos always make me feel a little bit happier. I hope you know how much we appreciate you and your channel. You're amazing 😁
Fun reference I think you didn't see: when they're getting their wedding rings, it's like in The Lord of The Rings :D Fiona even has the same scene as Frodo in the Prouncing Pony, when he falls and the ring goes into his finger (also the 'I Love You' written in the ring as a reference to the writing of the One Ring, etc)
Yes, and Puss in Boots is one of my favourites. Lots of people don’t realise that, in the original tale, Puss defeats an ogre on behalf of his master by turning him into a mouse and eating him.
Also, I'll say this much: While the Shrek series has become a meme I don't really dislike any of the films. Even The Third, which is considered the worst I still have a lot of fun watching.
I don’t remember you laughing this much since watching “The Emperor’s New Groove”. Another thing, does this have the best movie finale in history or what?
@@Nicamon oh somehow a small speech stops all these villains, somehow Fiona has a cousin?? Which isn’t explained, why can’t shrek just hold a ceremony in his kingdom for the ruler? But sure, there’s no plot holes at all. And we get this boring villain we got in the second
@@user-yc5fr8zu1m What do you mean"somehow"?Why is Fiona not allowed to have cousins??🤨Why should it have been explained? She has a cousin.Period. No one ever said she _didn't._ It's also not a plot hole to have the same Villain twice, unless he was previously dead. You know what *is* a plot hole?Having a Rumplestilskin in the 4th movie that it's NOT the same Rumple we saw in the 2nd movie AND having an AU in which Farquaad and Charming don't exist anymore with no explanation whatsoever and Puss has gotten fat instead of keep being a bounty hunter like he was before meeting Shrek!
We had a cat a few years ago (our late orange baby fluffball) who had a Puss in Boots face. He had these huge eyes and just this little face that was so gosh darn cute!!! Like, he could get away with murder just be showing that face. It is also said the Fairy Godmother was the one who cursed Fiona. You know how fairy godmothers go to celebrate a baby's birth by bestowing a gift upon them or helping a girl get ready for the ball? Well not this one! Fairy Godmother is the one who cursed Fiona and told her parents the curse can be lifted if she receives true love's kiss, which she told them would be her son. When Fiona was of age, her parents sent her to live in the tower, awaiting Prince Charming. But we all know how that went! He was late! Instead, it was Farquad who found her, sent Shrek to get her, and bring her to him. At this point, Fiona just wants out of that tower and out of her "cursed" body by taking anyone, even if it's not the man of her then dreams. Harold was indebted to her for helping him be with Lillian, and it was time to pay up.
54:10 Suddenly DOnkey's mentioning that Dragon had been getting really moody lately makes a lot of sense - she was pregnant, moodiness is a common side effect. "I gotta get a job." Yeah, he really does.
I know someone mentioned to you about the Puss and Boots but I wanted to say that my favorite thing is that his styling and everything has some elements of Antonio banderas iconic movie Zorro. There is also a spin-off movie of the puss in boots
They're not exactly Disney properties and characters. The stories are technically public domain because they're so old. so anybody can make movies about the characters
Switching out pepper spray for a pepper grinder was the funniest thing in the world to me when I was a kid! And, honestly, still one of the funniest things as an adult 😂
Fun fact: this movie came out the same year as Shark tale and the incredibles Shrek 2: one of the best dreamworks movies Shark tale: what people consider as one of the worst dreamworks has ever done The incredibles: for some people the best Pixar movie
Shrek 2 is a master piece. It's even better than the first movie, following the same rhythm and jokes. So bad the others two movies lose its paths and became silly parodies. The fourth is awful...
The Spell at the end was an undo, - It undid the fairy godmother's existence. - It undid Harold's transform as a human back to frog. - It might have undid Shrek's marriage too if it hit him.
Ahhh, this pops up in my notifications just as I'm watching "Shrek 2" on TV for probably the first time in a decade. I'm realizing / remembering now why other fans love it so damn much. I still think I'm in the minority that I prefer the first one the best, but this is truly an incredibly brilliant and hilarious sequel. I can't wait for your first reaction!!! :)
Go back and rewatch the far far away street scene. All of the store names are a play on real stores/Hollywood, starting with the welcome sign which is styled like a Beverly Hills sign.
it's the first time i watch the movie in english and im here like...is the king's voice John Cleese? nah, i'm probably wron..but it sounds like john cleese...then it is indeed him.
Hey, Nick, in case your curious as to why there’s so many Disney references in Shrek 1 and 2, it’s because Jeffery Katzenberg (CEO of Dreamworks for those that don’t know) used to work for Disney. Plus Dreamworks was created outta revenge against Disney
I forgot just how fun this movie is. Like you, I laughed so much. Now you have to check out Far Far Away Idol. It was a bonus feature on the DVD and it’s hilarious, a bunch of the characters performing songs. It’s on RU-vid, you’ll love it! I’m happy you enjoyed this one!
Not Disney. Fairy tales are in the public domain. Meaning anyone can make a version of them as a film. Stuff like Pinocchio and Cinderella weren't originally made by Disney, they're adaptations of folktales and stories from centuries ago. Also, Fairy Godmother is the best villain in the Shrek Franchise pre-Last Wish. Rumplestiltskin is close, since he actually won.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again: Shrek 2 is a GREAT movie. Definitely better than the first one, both of which are miles better than either of the sequels. Great gags, great villain, great music. It's well structured and paced, it's got a solid B-plot and the references are much better integrated and executed. It tells a relatively adult story in an accessible kid's flick without sacrificing the comedy or the spectacle. It's for sure as perfect as a Shrek movie can be, and maybe as perfect as any big-budget studio-driven stunt-casted animated feature could ever be. Great reaction, as always.
Fun Fact: The original story of Puss And Boots is about him outsmarting an ogre. Also, puss and boots is supposed to be French, but since he's played by Antonio Banderas (Who's From Spain) his nationality was changed.
I love the first Shrek film, but I absolutely ADORE the second and even the third, though, most folks don't like the next installment. And I absolutely love your reactions. They are pure, real, and not scripted which is what makes them even better. Today is catch up day for your channel and I cannot wait to watch your Who Framed Roger Rabbit reaction. I have no doubt it will be fun and entertaining. 😌😌
@@silverstarlightproductions1292 I mean I’d say it’s undeniably the worst, but that doesn’t mean it’s simply awful, just not up to par with the other 3.
Yes, there are a lot of Disney references, but a lot of the princesses aren't just there because of Disney. Fairy tales are all in Public domain, meaning anyone can use them.
These...are not Disney properties. Fairy tales existed long before Disney, and many of Disney's movies are just re-telling of fairy tales with a happy twist. (the original versions don't usually end happily, as they were stories meant to scare or warn children into behaving) Also, woo! This is my favorite of the shrek movies along with the best song "I Need a Hero". The music, the action, and the introduction of Puss n Boots. You should also check out the Puss n Boots movie. =D So glad you stuck around long enough for the baby dongens. Or baby Drakies? Baby donkie dragons. xD I love them so darn much.
So, Cinderella, Rapunzel, Peter Pan, and so on... they are not actually owned by Disney. They are fairy tale characters that Disney made movies from, true. But everyone could make a Cinderella movie if they wanted. They don't own the character. They just own a certain VERSION of the character. They appearing in Shrek really has nothing to do with Disney. Oh, and Puss in Boots is an actual fairy tale too, by the way. Most of the characters in Shrek are from one.
The Fairy Godmother didn't curse Fiona. In the first movie she said that a witch cast a spell on her, and in this one, Harold and Lillian went to her for help.
