The Go-Gos were a very underrated band, IMO. They hold the particular distinction of being the first and only all-female band to write their own material and play their own instruments to have a #1 album on the Billboard charts. They were recently inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of fame, too. :)
Makes me really miss the 80s. Such good times with tons of great music. They were put into the rock and roll hall of fame a few years ago. Another great girl band from the 80s, that would be fun to watch you react to, is The Bangles.
Just look at the 80. ‘S hair it was all the rage. Remember when footballers were having perms. Love Belinda she has a aura around her. Love what you,re doing each day. Keep showing those lovely teeth
Mad About You was from Belinda's first solo album that Andy Taylor from Duran Duran produced and played lead guitar on he is also in the Mad About You video!
The Go-Go's are an amazing band, such good musicians. We Got the Beat and Vacation are 80's anthems. Head Over Heels is an oft overlooked, perfect upbeat pop song with a brilliant musical interlude within the song.
Every single one is a classic but my fave is Head Over Heels! The song is so energetic and upbeat that most people never even notice that the lyrics are about being totally burnt out and spiraling out of control (which was exactly what the band was doing when that was released, they basically hated each other at that point and were on the brink of collapse). Belinda’s unique voice is one of the signature sounds of 80s pop.
Oh man!!!! You are diving into my high school years!! My girlfriend at the time LOVED the Go Go's!!! We would take off to the beach every weekend here in Southern California in my convertible VW bug, blasting the stereo and she would be singing to me at the top of her lungs...☺.....and everything was right in the world..we broke up after graduation, but remain friends to this day.Fate brought me my true soul mate of 20 years and counting......and once again, everything is right in the world again😊.❤❤
The song, “We Got The Beat” was used in the opening credits of Fast Times At Ridgemont High. “Head Over Heels” was used in the opening credits of 13 Going On 30.
I had such a good time watching these with you, Bryson. And fully agree with you about Belinda's face in Mad About you... everytime I watch the video I am distracted by her. Her profile! Her face! How does someone rock a black sweater that hard? She's just stunning. Jane Wiedlin (the cute, equally stunning dark haired pixie gutarist), had a solo release in the late 80s called Rush Hour -- definitely worth experiencing... nothing deep, just pure pop goodness.
Mad About You was written by the bass player who had joined the Go-Go's after Jane Weidlin quit. Kathy Valentine had switched to guitar. However, the Go-Go's broke up before they recorded another album so Belinda included it on her first solo record.
The Go-Go's legendary for their hard partying, filled with booze and drugs. These chicks went so overboard that male rockers couldn't keep up with them.
The all girl groups of the 80s meant everything to me. It felt so freeing to see female musicians...it made my lil mind think that maybe we gals could be a whole lot more than my small evangelical town was telling me. Edit: i had to sneak to watch MTV. They found out & blocked the channel...that didn't quell my thirst though 🤣
Great Reaction, Bryson! All favorites from my past. I just noticed how much Belinda Carlisle and Khloe Kardashian resemble each other! Her movie producer husband was in that video with her. They have a gay son together. Jane Weidlin with her dark hair always reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor! More Go Gos!
Love the Go Go’s! These girls rock!! And yeah, Belinda looks really beautiful. This was the beginning of her major glow-up period when she was beginning her solo career. I’ll search your playlist to see if you have any Belinda Carlisle reactions. She got more beautiful as time went on and I’ve always loved her voice. It’s very unique. Thanks for posting! ✌🏻❤✌🏻
Hey Pancake Dude you get the crown or tiara (whatevs) for least pokery face in the reaction game. How bout Head over Heels - proof that school teachers jam too
I saw Belinda Carlisle in concert in 1990, A poor show to be honest she didn't seem to want to be their. As a part of a band it is going to be more fun. She should have stayed with the Go-Go's.
