I think one of the themes of the guest list (excluding Margot) is that they're all people who assume they will get their way. Some of them may have struggled early on, but most of them have enjoyed a high level of privilege for years if not decades. As Chef Slowik says, they're takers. Part of the reason they don't fight back after those early futile attempts is that they just aren't used to being in a situation they can't control or escape. Margot is not nearly so complacent.

Adding that in other comments on YT some people argue that the Manager should have lived. Not only was she privileged enough to have enough money to not have student loans, she was actively stealing from her boss that she already mooched off of and about to leave him for a position that didn’t even have a defined role. I think she represents people who seem like they should be working class and know struggle, but in reality she is leeching of the work of others in the same way the finance bros are. She just didn’t flaunt it the same way.

@@zaxia_psg Agreed! She's a bit like Meg Thrombey in "Knives Out" - flirts with working class tropes, but has never actually had to support herself by her own efforts.

Truly love how many people are like “oh no it’s gonna be cannibalism” and this movie totally expected that reaction several times. Just makes it even better in my opinion.

So far you are the only other person I've heard that's talked about how easy it would've been for this movie to simply do canabolism. But because its a great movie it did not.

Enjoyed your reaction! Just subbed. So refreshing to get through a reaction whereby the reactor refrains from swearing about 20 times per film. Good insights into what was happening. Great movie and acting!

Daniel Radcliffe was going to really play himself as an actor but had a schedule conflict so John Leguizamo played off himself using his experience with actor Stephen Seagal. Not sure but the assistant who went to "Brown" could have been a pre-script in joke at Emma Watson who graduated there. This should have been Oscar nominated and Spiderman Tobey Macguire was a producer. Filmed in Georgia where another youtube content creator and former server recognized the locale.

I've been watching a lot of the menu reviews/reactions, and this one is one of the best ones so far! I appreciate your observations throughout the movies, especially the bit where you note Mr. Liebrantd switching seats with his wife as to not see Margo. Not many people pick up on it from what I've seen, then again, it doesn't make much sense until later on in the movie. Great content!! I wish you luck on your future content as well :}

@@mushroomsoda I won't mention, as I already feel bad for the post I left. But they found no humor in the movie, were confused and horrified throughout, and kept insisting that all the guests were good, innocent people who just needed to stab a knife into the throat of Chef, the mad psychopath, to save everyone. Their takes were wrong throughout the reaction... a likely reason is they were chatting through the more revealing dialogue and missed a bunch of important clues. [Although the one's they did catch went over their heads, so maybe that wound't have mattered.]

The young brunette is the actor's assistant, who is quitting to go to another job. They may have had more of a relationship than that. He has a secret apartment his wife doesn't know about. She would know that as his assistant too, though. But he doesn't want her to leave the job or him.

I love the acting in this movie! Superb! Tyler truly made me dislike him, and I love everybody! Spoilers! 2 Faults I find with this movie: 1) This movie suffers the same fate as Raiders of the Lost Ark. The main character is completely irrelevant. She plays no part in changing anything. With or without her, everything that happened would still happen. The only real difference being Elsa's end. 2) A fatal flaw. The Cheeseburger. Earlier in the movie the Chef yells. What did he yell? THERE ARE NO SUBSTITUTIONS AT HAWTHORN! (sp?) The Cheeseburger, even a Well-made one is a substitution to The Menu, and therefore should never have been allowed. Even knowing these things, it still entertained me and I reccomend it!

Well, but you can have a main character who doesn't change anything. Margo is more of a protagonist that the audience lives with and learns through than a protagonist who changes things. I can deal with this substitution: the chef's job is to serve and satisfy the customer. Slowik accomplishes that with the cheeseburger. In any case, it's his place, totally and completely now. If he wants to add a cheeseburger to the menu, he can.
