Watching The Princess Diaries (2001) FOR THE FIRST TIME!! || PART 1! || Movie Reaction!

Fun fact: in the books, the dad is alive. They asked the books author if they could kill him off, because of who they got for the queen. She asked who, and when they told her it was Julie Andrews, she basically said, "Kill the dad!"

Fun fact: Anne Hathaway got the part cause of how clumsy she is. She would have gotten it anyway, but her natural clumsiness and Mia-ness booked it for her.

"Just a reminder, virtual homework may not be submitted for actual credit." And that's how you know this was made in 2001 lol. My favorite joke though is the nuns during the trolly crash scene "They put me on hold." "Oh for the love of god!"

I love this movie! Fun fact, the scene where Anne Hathaway falls on the bleachers was actually an accident and the director decided to keep it in. I empathize with the brush scene. I’ve had many brushes get stuck.

I use Joe's "Inferior without consent" line even to this day. It's so important to remember that. People will crap on you all the time if you let them but you have to let them make you feel bad for their words to hurt.

In retrospect, I don't really care for the make over scene. I had/have thick curly frizzy hair, my hair used to look exactly like that. Then I found out there are ways of making it look nice without just straight ironing it. Also brushing, with a round brush, on dry curly hair? Come on, Paulo should've known better. Good moisturizing conditioner, moisturizing and defrizzing hair products (like cremes and mousse), and only touching and messing with the hair when its wet. Once its dry, no touchy, otherwise you'll need to rewet and re-detangle. And the only time you should "brush" hair like that is in the shower or directly after while soaked, and only with a wide tooth comb.

A Cinderella Story with Hilary Duff is also a must watch. 😁

Julie Andrews is a queen so this role is perfect for her

This was my introduction to Anne Hathaway, and of course she's very charming, though my favourite will always be Joe. (He must also be the director's favourite, since the actor shows up in all his films!)

One of my favorite movies with Anne Hathaway has to be Ella Enchanted, if you haven't seen it, it's a super fun movie!

Lana the mean girl is none other than Mandy Moore who would go on to voice Rapunzel in Tangled! Julie Andrews, the Queen/grandmother, starred in another movie you reacted to, The Sound of Music! Also, I highly recommend Pretty Woman if you haven’t seen it, a great romcom classic that launched Julia Roberts’ career the same way The Princess Diaries launched Anne Hathaway’s career. You’ll also see a lot of the same actors in Garry Marshall’s movies because he put many of his friends and family members in little/supporting roles; the actress who played Charlotte the assistant is his real-life daughter and Hector Elizondo who played Joe the head of security was Garry Marshall’s best friend. Both of them along with Larry Miller (Paolo the makeover guy) appeared in Pretty Woman. His young granddaughters, who played the little girls asking for Mia’s autograph, were also partly responsible for Anne Hathaway’s casting, they saw her audition tape and thought that she had the best princess hair.

And yes, she did actually fall off the chair during the princess lesson.

The 'makeover' scenes in all of these films aimed at kids and teens are kind of sad if you think about it. Curly hair? Ugly. Glasses? Ugly. etc.

I'm so happy you enjoyed this movie, because it's one of my favorites. The second one is good, but this one was nearly perfect. (If I had had my way, she wouldn't have forgiven Lilly so easily for being such a jerk to her.)

You should watch Miss Congeniality! The movie is similar because it has the main character (Sandra Bullock) undergo a makeover for a beauty pageant! It’s also HILARIOUS!!!

Spoiler alert 🚨 There are two scenes in the movie that I absolutely love: 1. The scene where Mia deliberately smashes her icecream into the middle of Lana’s chest after she makes fun of her and another classmate/friend 2.The scene were Mia (unintentionally of course which makes the scene even better because it’s a perfect example of the meaning of the saying “what goes around comes around”)😊 Hit’s the baseball so hard that the ball wind’s up hitting Josh ( Lana’s boyfriend) in the you know where 😊😅

Not gonna lie, it felt pretty relatable when they were doing her makeover. I have had brushes stuck in my curly hair countless times and yes, I did break one or two of them so…
