@@nanmaco It is easy to grow a pineapple tree, just take the top part of the pineapple (the part she cut off) and place it in water until roots grow or some people just plant it in dirt. When you water, water the middle of leaves to prevent root rot. I have 3 that I am growing from earlier this year. Apparently it takes 2-3 years to produce.

Love this ! Found a fantastic deal for beautiful fresh pineapples! Bought 13 of them . A lady at the store came up to me asked what I was doing with all the pineapple.( She was about 60 ) I told her I was going to can them ! She was SHOCKED 😲!! She kept saying how amazing that was ! I told her I hunt for deals and either Can , dehydrate or put it in my freezer . She said " I never would have expected someone so young to be into canning " ( I'm 31) I told her I grew up doing it and explained this is what I've always done , last week I found a bunch of cauliflower on-sale and made a bunch of pickled cauliflower. This week I got pineapple and tons of bags of fresh cranberries for 0.25 ! We just had Thanksgiving here in Canada and Cranberries are always so cheap after Thanksgiving. So I grabbed 36 bags for $9 and am going to make my own cranberry juice concentrate . She thought that was amazing lol But I'm very thankful I have the skills to do stuff like this . God blesses me with Deals and I'm able to make things for my family ❤️

Pam a couple things: 1. I prefer the OXO Pineapple Corer. It is metal and takes less strength to get the goodies out. Just a suggestion. 2. I do the standard USDA guidelines on canning the fruit. However, if you scrub the skins, I take the skins and remaining fruit inside and boil it down and strain it in a food mill on fine, and boil it down with sugar or honey, for Pineapple Jam or glaze. It is spectacular on Ham, Pork Roasts, or even in some sweet and sour recipes. Our Farmer's Market here gets Pineapples several time a year that could be considered by the consumer market as "over-ripe." LOL No... It's just right for canning. I have even checked the pH and added a bit of lemon juice to correct the pH. It is fantastic and checks all the boxes for being safe. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

I canned pineapple a couple months ago and for the "simple syrup " I took all of the very clean peels and cores, some water, and any juice from slicing and boiled it for about 40 minutes and strained it. It was sweet enough that I didn't need to add sugar/sweeteners (that's helpful for diabetics). So it was canned in its own pineapple juice. Very good. I also let the pineapples sit on the counter for a week to make sure they were really ripe. A tip for knowing when pineapple is ripe is pulling an inner leaf. If it comes out easy it is ripe. If it doesn't come out it isn't ripe yet. I love pineapple 🍍. Thank u for the great info, always.

Thank you for such a thorough explaination! My family is plagued with genetic diabetes, so no added sugar canning tips are always great! One book about diabetic canning I use recommended using apple juice concentrate to sweeten desserts and I wonder if frozen pineapple juice concentrate could work if for some reason you don't have enough juice.... Thanks for sharing the super helpful and resourceful tip!
@annieanderson6112

@@trashcatlinol would u mind sharing the name of your diabetic canning cookbook please? I would think the pineapple concentrate would work. That's kinda what I was trying to replicate using the skins etc. I just filled a large pot with the skins, cores, and any juice then filled the pot with water to cover everything and it was plenty of juice to fill the jars. I learned that from watching another RU-vid video but I can't remember who's it was. I'll try to look back to see if I can find it and edit my comment if I find it. Thanks

Well this is a coincidence. I just found a great deal on pineapples in Yuma AZ. Making jam with 6, then chunking the rest for canning. If you like pineapple you should give the jam a try, it’s marvellous. On a side note, I have just bought the 4 tray HR freeze dryer. It has to sit for 24 hours the book says and that’s killing me ( not particularly patient lol), however I do have a line up of foods ready to go….after all the proper setups and bread run has been completed. Watching you with yours gave me the extra push I needed to make the purchase ( no pressure lol ). Before I buy anything I do absolutely loads of research. About 2 years worth on this so I know I’m going to be extremely satisfied with it. Cheers from Alberta.

Canned 9 pints of pineapples today. Someone commented to chop cores add about 2 cups of water per pineapple cored and boil 10 minutes to make a natural pineapple syrup. I did this, smelled so nice in our NC home. Good information and good canning experience. Thanks to all!! God bless!

I normally don't like tools that are "uni-taskers" because we live in a tiny house, but I think I will invest in one of those.

Thank you for this. Ran to local store and picked up 12 🍍. 16 pints later, so excited. Also 6 pints of Mandarin oranges. Yay!!

I just bought two pineapples for canning. I have not canned anything yet! I’m starting small and so glad you have this video! I don’t think I would of ever thought to save the juice! I also will only can them in water to lower sugar consumption. So saving the juice is a great idea

Yesterday we found pineapples at our local Kroger’s (Smith’s is the Western Branch of the Kroger grocery family). Our pineapples cost $1,65/each; we are an additional 2,000 miles East of you and Hawaii (transport cost escalation?). I only wish I had the “core and slicer gadget;” I just followed the instructions on the card clipped to the pineapple. However, rather than hot bath pack the pineapple “diced” chunks cut I loaded our Harvest Right Freeze Dryer trays (lined with silicone mats) and pre-froze the trays to -11F then pre-chilled the Freeze Dryer and loaded the trays. It is surprising the pineapple dried to an indicated vacuum of 200 mT @ 135F in approximately 36 hours (I added an additional two (2) “Extra Drying Time” for my convenience) before removing and storing the freeze dried diced pineapples chunks. My preference for storing our freeze dried products is using canning jars (64 oz preferred; but, these are in short supply, so, I used 32 oz Ball jars). I vacuum seal the jars to 27 in-Hg (we live in Tennessee, our “homestead’s elevation is almost exactly 1,000 ft above SL I find this storage method an advantage since we can oped a jar use the amount of product required then promptly restore the preservation jars vacuum then back to its cool and dark storage location Thanks for all your inspiration, advice, techniques and technologies (I.e. “gadgets). Looking forward to your and Cindy’s Cookbook.

I can pineapple too and it is soooo delicious! If you get a chance try it on pizza (with Canadian bacon) made on the grill - FABULOUS!!

That works out to roughly 70 cents a pint. Of course, that is not counting sugar, electricity, butane, and your time. Love your pineapple gadget! Thanks, Pam and Jim, and Happy Thanksgiving to you both.
