Absolute joke for a design Mopar should be ashamed to have their name on such a product Then again todays mopar isn't the Mopar from the pentastar years
Thank you jesus for this video🙏🙏🙏,cause I just almost made the mistake of buying a 2003 Concorde with this POS 2.7L engine. Fiiuuuu, Good video bro...saved me from a headache. 🤣🤣🤣 .
Francisco Castro Yea man no problem! I just made this quick little video so DIY'ers have an idea of what needs to be done for the job. Glad it helped you!
No problem! Yeah I think that's about what it took me. There are definitely more specific videos on this repair that you might find Andy. But this gives a pretty good overview of what's involved. Good luck!
I bought two intrepids with water pump issues. the 02 I bought I just rebuild the motor because the water pump leaked into the oil and spun all the bearings and bent all the rods. The second one I just did heads and timing set and gaskets. These arent that hard to work on. I use synthetic blend and change it every 3000 miles and inside the motor still looks nice and clean with no carbon. The only problem I had in both cars was the timing chain tensioner not having enough tension and suck back in. I only get noise when the engine is heated up and it sounds awful. My recommendation is not to use the chinese tensioners as the check valves in them are not always good. I bought 5 total between the two cars.
Thanks for making this video, Chris! I bought a used 2008 Charger back in October, and it's been one nightmare after another. It seems the water pump may be next. I won't be attempting this repair myself since I'm a beginner, but it gives me a good idea as to what the garage will be doing to it should they accept the job.
Meg Evans no problem! I'm glad you found it helpful. It's definitely not that in depth but it certainly gives an idea of what's going on and what a pain in the butt it is. Not sure if your local to the Philadelphia area but if you were I'd be willing to take on the job for reasonable rate. Where abouts you from?
thanks for the informative video. I had a 2006 sebring with this 2.7 in it. The engine OBD light is constantly on but engine temperature is normal and oil light is off. Every 3k miles with synthetic blend oil. I am just wondering that if this coolant leakage problem also comes with sebring after 2006 or just before 2005? Thanks again!
My weep hole was leaking for a few days. Thought it was the thermostat. All the water came out of the bottom while I was trying to take it to a shop. Debating on selling it, paying to get it fixed, or just setting it on fire.
Glad to hear you figured out it wasn't the thermostat! That tricks so many people! And yeah I kind of like your second option! Except just hire a bum to set it on fire and then come out and be like "oh my!" Lol jk
With my luck the bum would take the money, report me for insurance fraud and turn himself in for arson so he could get a free bed bro. Lol but I like the idea.
ok well mine not doin that thankfully and i have 214,446 miles on the car it looks like u rip the engine apart ,im no mechanic but i know my way around my car n have done everything to it myself all mew front suspension ,but the engine im weary of doin but i guess i can fig it out once i start takung shit off if the water pumps goes so thnx for the info brother
Right on! I'm just getting started on one, boss told me the pump was internal and I was baffled. Your video solidified the discussion! Time to get my hands dirty!
Hey, IDK If You Still Answer Questions But I Have A 07 Charger With Overheating Problems, I Just Changed The Radiator, Thermostat and Thermostat Housing....The Antifreeze Boils In The Reservoir And Causes The Car To Overheat !
Shalanda Mckenna you have to make sure the cooling system passes a pressure test at 15 lbs if so the cap is most likely bad causing the boiling. You also have to make sure the cooling system is completely bleed of all air too. Because air pockets can cause boiling and overheating too.
Did you have to pull spark plugs to keep the compression of the cam drive gears? Asking because I’m down to the chain and tensioner. And the chain jumped a couple teeth on the passenger side cam sprocket
All that sledge... how long before it started having problems? This vid is 5 years old so I’m wondering if you still have this and is it still running?
This is a friend of mine's car, and yes it is still running and on the road. He's had several other issues with it mostly suspension related though. The transmission has been acting up lately and I'm sure it won't be on the road for too much longer. no sludge problems
👍🏽👍🏽That’s a crazy amount of sledge. I had to clean two 2.7 out that were similar looking. Took several days and removing the cylinder heads, camshafts, timing chains etc. horrible design but not as bad as the wrap it has.
@@WarPonyAuto that sounds like a lot of work! If it were my own car I would maybe do that. But I would probably take the whole engine apart. Of course I don't think it would be worth it on this type of vehicle. From my experience, the sludge ends up doing more harm if you disturb it. Unless you're doing a full rebuild
NoNonsenseKnowHow Yep, indeed. It’s worth it in the sense that two I did still ran great. Dropped the oil pans in both, replaced the oil pumps & pick up tubes. A big hassle but the customers get what they are willing to pay for. I now own a 2010 with a 2.7 and it has always been well cared for. No sledge but if it did I would not go through all that for my own vehicle lol. Anyhow, good job on the vid 👍🏽
@@WarPonyAuto that's good to hear you're willing to take your time and do jobs like that for customers. Most guys will turn that stuff away. These engines certainly last if properly taken care of. I've seen plenty with a quarter million miles on them. Thanks again for commenting and sharing
My motor started knocking while a cold start up and was told it's my timing chain tensioner...is that true?? And also how can I replace it??? Please help
If I worked at a dealership and did these more often I could do that, but unfortunately I've only done a handful in my life so I doubt I'll be seeing another one anytime soon. Sorry I couldn't be of more help
I had my engine replaced about 9 months ago and after the first 3000 miles I started having problems now I got to go back in the engine replace the water pump oil pump and pushrods because the guy that did it didn't do a very good job I spent about$3,700. On everything that's included in mind Cadillac converters on both sides and I only have 7000 miles on the car now.
Abraham Brown on this job I did not because the customer was on a very tight budget and just wanted to get by. He is still driving the car today and it has not given him a problem. However if it was my own I would definitely replace the timing chain set. If it's a car you don't plan to keep for that long, then you'll probably be fine without replacing it
You actually did a good video job, if you could as well putting it back together, i just got the whole timing chain kit with waterpump and on putting the waterpump back in it mentions an o-ring, it has a gasket but im not clear on if just the gasket with the rubber lining the gasket is all it needs or am i missing something.?
Id be more worried about that carbon/sludge buildup.Image inside oil pan and sump, let along all that build up inside head. What oil do you use, what weight and how often you really changed it? I hope you get a bit more use outta that 2.7 cause by look of sludge buildup it isn't gonna be to much longer .How many miles you have on it too?You may want bore inspect that cause that is a lot of buildup, before you go putting anymore money into that engine.... That is not the original water pump either, looks like it has been replaced before.Hope you didn't get it off eBay ....
Joyce, Its not my car. Its a friend of a friends and he specifically request only a new water pump. But yea, I agree that she was all sorts of sludged up. Ive seen much worse though. It had 160k miles on it.
Come on dude, it no rear wheel drive. It's got front wheel drive with a 42le transmission. Not to be confused with the 42rle. That one is rear wheel drive, but never came in the vehicle.
Thanks , I knew it was a big job. I got an after market water pump from ebay. Using that a mistake considering all the labor I wondered if OEM made more sense.??
Took my car to a shop to fix the water pump leak , and he replaced two freeze plugs, got it back and it was Stillwater leaking, so I took it back to the shop . He told me that a part on the pump was not there'd it was worn out and he could not get it to fit tight so he filled it with some silicone stuff but that keeps melting and it still leaks.. To me it sounds like the macanach didn't do his job so how do I fix it.
what if the chain makes noise only after the car warms up & only at idle ?, come off of idle & the noise goes away ? what would the car need to rid the problem ?
I Installed new water pump and its still leaking thry weep hole and gasket around!!!!---(i didnt put any sealant on metal gasket--installed as is) ---But now i noticed Old WaterPump had red sealant on gasket both sides--Maybe thats the reason manufacture put sealant on it? Did yours leak without any sealant??
Great video. 2008 seabring 2.7 litre. I have no heat at idle. But driving I have heat. Changed the thermostat and heater core seems good? Guess it’s water pump? Or any ideas would be greatly appreciated
I have a 2008 Dodge Charger 2.7 V6 If i am going to change the water pump would i also need to change the timing chain as well? We need special tools to do this type of work?
How many miles are on it? It's certainly a good idea to change the timing kit at the same time but no you do not have to. I've done these before where I just put the pump in. Need Chrysler puller. link in description
Honestly it really depends on your region, and where you go. Dealership, street corner shop, or a friend. Also depends if he's replacing just the water pump, or the entire timing kit. Too many variables honestly. Prices are all over the place
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow ,why don't you just say what they charge in your area to give people some kind of idea what it will cost? They aren't asking for the exact price, they just want to know about how much it could cost.
Cloyes Timing components has a really good video on setting the timing up for these. You should be able to find it if you Google how to set the timing on 2.7 liter Chrysler. Let me know if you can't find it
U can tell the oil was never changed regular times that why the poor water pump seals got burned out folks if u don’t want ur vehicle to have issues please maintain ur vehicle 🚗
Hi bro,plz help me out, I have 2007 Chrysler300, 2.7L v6,It was over heated and its water pump was gone and water and oil was mixed became milky oil.I replaced the new water pump and checked everything is fine nothing damaged, only water pump was broken, the water pump is new now but it's not starting :-(more than Three times open head and reset the timing chain, but didn't start the engine, don't know what's wrong with it.!Plz help me out.!!!
I get a weird ticking that traces the rpms like a valve tap that comes and goes. It'll be there and then just stop while I'm driving. Its completely random. Sometimes it lasts for two days, and sometimes not even 20 minute's. Then it goes away for two or three weeks, then does it again. any ideas?
I hope you replaced your timing guide's if the shoe's have grove's worn in them. also replace tensioner & the thermostat. I've been there. Anti freeze "orange only" also only use full "synthetic oil only", that's why your motor is stained brown with sludge, That's the factory warning....
Once the water pump starts slowly leaking from the wheep hole about a gallon every 2 weeks how long do you think it has. If you were flat broke and trying to limp it to continue to get to work and kids to school. How long you think I could make it
Hey, I appreciate your comment but unfortunately I don't really take any questions via email or phone. Armed with this video and the other ones that are on RU-vid, you should be able to tackle this job without a problem. Just give yourself plenty of time and take things slow. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance. I hope the video helped give you some insight on the job
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow no problem... I really appreciate your time for replying my comment, and sure I will be checking your video more than one time haha... Thanks...
I can’t get my timing chain cover off, and it’s such a pain in the ass, thank you for the video it’s got me as far as I’ve gotten, but I’m missing something, I took out 12 bolts I read 11 is all that’s needed, so now I’m lost, I’ve read that there are potentially bolts from the oil pan into the bottom timing chain cover? But I can’t find em, I’m so confused, is it absolutely necessary to take the valve covers off also and spark plugs to get access to bottom timing chain cover? I’ve been searching for the answer for 2-3 weeks now to no avail im worried about prying it off, cuz there’s no room or leverage without causing damage to the block or pulleys, does anyone understand this?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow oh ok thanks. I'll get under there and check. I know its leaking a very small amount of oil after letting it sit for a while, any ideas?
ok so im pretty sure this is whats happening to mine. When i crank my car in the morning its starts squealing for like 30 seconds then stops, thought it was a belt or something but i guess its the timing chain? From reading the comments. Resivour is fine but water stilll dripping out the bottom of this grid like thing everytime i put water in. Oil was a milky color, overheated about 3 weeks ago. Still cranks but not sure if the engine is knocking or not. Should i just get a new motor or replace the cylinder head and the water pump or will replacing the water pump and draining the engine and putting some oil treatment in do the trick? This vid was helpful even if u dont respond, thanks!
Thanks for you comment and sorry to hear about your trouble! The timing chain will not cause any squealing noises. That could be a belt, power steering pump, etc. When you say water is dripping from a "grid like thing are you referring to the radiator? If you have milky oil then its very likely the head gaskets are leaking, or the pump is shot. Based on your description the car needs to be diagnosed further do determine the best move here. I will tell you this. If the engine was overheated excessively, i would certainly consider replacing it instead of repair. Thanks again and thumbs up is greatly appreciated.
About how much does it Cost to Replace water Pump on my 2008 300 2.7 , and should I replace timing chain too?? Is their a way to clean some of the sludge on motor or no?
Jessie Urge a shop will typically charge around 600 - $800 to complete this job. as far as replacing the timing chain goes, it would really depend on how many miles your engine has and what condition the chain / guides are in. I would recommend at least replacing the tensioner though since they are failure prone. I do not recommend cleaning all the sludge out unless you're going to just pick out some of the big chunks and areas. Once you start disturbing that stuff you're going to be in for a world of trouble in the future. In my years of working on engines I have found that it's best to just leave it where it is. thanks for the comment and if the video helped you out some give it a like. thanks
not really big on youtube stuff or computers . not sure if im going right about this, maybe you can help me with my 2008 300c chrysler water pump problem.
Hey I am having a hard time to take out the cover where u can get access to the water pump. I took all the bolt and pulley and then now the cover is hard to take it out. Any ideas how to remove it ?
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow all the bold are taken out and the middle pulley too but i think after u take out the pulley u still got to use that special took to take out or push to take out the cover ?
I understand the advancement in technology but this is just plain stupid for a water pump. Mopar should be ashamed to put out such junk. But then again todays so called mopar isn't yesterdays Chrysler corporation You never had to go through all of that BS on an old 318 or 440 It was simple.
MovilPlace Mexicali I agree. I happy that they no longer making this car anymore. If water pump is broken, then a lot work. Also water can be mixed into oil. I'm happy with my 07 Dodge Dakota V6 as of.
just curious, is it common for the coolant to escape into the oil pan when the water pump goes bad or should I be looking at something else to cause my oil pan to fill up with coolant
The water pump starts to wear out at the 70,000 miles mark and gets worse. it's best to change it every 70,000 miles even though they say to at 100,000. Just change it at 70,000 to prevent coolant from leaking into your oil pan.
It depends. If the engine is not making any noise at the moment you should be fine. How did antifreeze get in the oil? Usually when the pump fails it leaks out the port on the side on the engine. Not into the oil sump.
It just doesn't work at all since the pump went out, & really ticks me off b/c it was the last new part I put on the car. Oh well, dumb plastic parts. I don't like part of the overflow bottle being pressurized, but I guess radiators are all plastic now anyway. I just like the regular old style bottle. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-WP3jm0Ygm_0.html
