I'm betting they meant Turkish Blue. Turkey the country, not the bird... The word “turquoise” comes from the French pierre tourques for “Turkish stone.”
You are so welcome! I appreciate your thoughts thanks for sharing, I LOVE all of my subscribers, they are all here because they love this medium, and enjoying what Im sharing, so glad I can put to even more use all of my years of experience for all of you as well. Happy painting friend. YOU are a priceless gift to me as well :-)
Yes, so do I, I love mixing colors directly on my paper, it creates such amazing blends and bleeds. I hoep you give these a try, and give those metallics and white guoache a splatter too! Have fun!
I’m so glad my teaching style resonates for you it’s how Inlearned best as well Happy to have you here! Happy painting friend let’s keep playing and creating !🌸🎨
Thanks Debbie- after being sick for so long I had no desire to paint- but this lovely tutorial peaked my interest- I see some lovely simple Christmas cards in my future 👩🎨💕👍
Wonderful! I just love to hear that, and what better hobby to make you feel better. When im not feeling wel, or down, watercolors are always a fun practice for me, the colors, the feel of the brush, and just allowing myself to play. I hope you are on the mend friend, and I can continue to inspire you.
I’m glad. It takes me almost as long to choose my music as it does to create the paintings sometimes, lol. Thanks I’m glad you enjoy! Happy painting friend 🎨🖌️🌸
Wonderful~ I was the same at first I thought, oh no, im not ready, and once I heard that Christmas music and painted these I was hooked! Let the holidays begin~ Happy painting friend, lets keep creating and having fun together
Turquoise is actually the blue of the Turks. So Turkey Blue refers to the country and probably can be blamed on the translation app the manufacturer used.
I have the mei-Lang w.c. set & it’s a fantastic bargain (@$20 or less in U.S.). Lots of saturation & variety. Turkey Blue is a favorite of mine! I figured it’s name referenced the country-so thanks for that information…with a lot f water it’s definitely turquoise and with less water it looks like a version of the Phalos -blue & green. Thanks again!
@@Susan-s7t Yes, I agree, I really do need to email them and ask exactly what they are referencing because now im dying of curiosity. and they are such great paints arent they? I love them. If im doing something Im going to gift, or sell, or have forever, I would use Winsor Newton or Paul Rubens. But for my everyday practice, they are perfect! (lightfastness not as high as WN and PR) Happy painting friend.
I just came across your videos! I appreciate how you break each step down while encouraging budding watercolorists 😅 to use their own creativity. It's also nice to see you using budget friendly materials. ❤
You are so welcome! I'm glad my teaching style works for you, its how I learned best. I paint these every year and they are so much fun. Happy painting friend
Ditto for what Suzanne Meyers said. I just came across your videos and I'm enjoying watching you paint and the tips you are giving. I agree with you about the Mei Liang paints. For a student grade/budget watercolor, they are at the top of that quality range and surprisingly good. I first got the 24 color set and then went back and got their largest (52) set, so I'm good for quite a while now. Some of the colors in the big set will be perfect for painting spring and summer flowers. 💐 PS. If you want different size circles for these ornaments, you can get a set of cookie cutters at the dollar store that will give you five different size Christmas tree globes. 😊❤😊
FYI: It is called Turquoise. In the history of the world, the tiles are colurs with fascinating colour by Turkish craftpeople which was not seen earlier. Later it is admired a lot and named as turquuoise to homour the craftpeople of Ottoman Empire. It has been still used by Craftpeople in Nicea in Turkey. I love following your art and developing my skill of watercolouring. Thanks for your support.
Thank you for the information and fun facts~ There are so many of you that have thoughts on this color, I had not heard this one though. Fascinating, Happy painting!
I’m glad They are getting You inspired! Happy painting friend There might be a few more things in my Holiday playlist as well. You can take a peek.! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7TBj1CspMFo.htmlsi=nXOcBnDyIDvAJaq5 Have fun Arlene🎨❄️🖌️
What a beautiful set of ornaments! Using the Ball jar to paint the outline of the ornament works so well. This is simple and easily reproduced for cards. Thank you for the great idea.❤️
Thank you so much! That is what I try to come up with since I am and probably mose of us, I want something somewhat easy to replicate and paint several. Happy patining friend!
Wonderful! That makes me so happy. I created a private fb page so all if you can share your paintings from my tutoriuals if you like.. facebook.com/groups/781794610217892/ I love seeing them and everyone is very supportive and just has fun~ Happy painting friend, I cant wait to share tomorrows with you!
I do Christmas crafts all year, I’d go crazy waiting until the last minute or even the last month. We are less than 2 months away now. Love this! And thanks for showing us how. It gives us lots of time to practice and make our own too.
Love that! Yes, i play a little all year as long, collecting ideas, recipes, inspiration! Its such a beautiful holiday with sparkling colors. You are very welcome have fun!
You are so welcome! I Hope you give them a try, so many fun colors you could use and the white guache is really a fun touch~ Metallics too. Happy painting friend.
That’s so beautiful! I could do this! On the burner right now. Working on fall colors right now 😅 I love all forms of watercolor…I struggle a little with a steady hand too. But that’s ok..the unprecise hand lends to the wonderful style of loose watercolor ☝🏽love it, thank you 🙏🏽🙋🏻♀️👍🏽Mia
Yes Mia! That is how I see it as well, very loose and organic. Im so glad this inspired you too give them a try, I think they will make beautiful cards! happy playing and painting friend!
Thankyou, these were maybe my favorite of this season. So much fun to splatter that white guoache and those beautiful holiday colors. I hoe you give them a try, and happy painting friend.
It sounds strange but Turkey blue is a legit term., just in modern English we would add 'ish' (Turkish). In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, maybe even the seventeenth century too, they didnt necessarily use Turkish. Turkey red, Turkey blue and Turkey green are colors that were found in trade goods from Turkey in those centuries. Turkey work is still used today as a term dor a needlework stitch.
Wow you all have so much fun information! Who knew thank you for sharing. I had no idea when I first came across this color language. It had so many wonderful meanings.
Thank you so much 😀 I actually hang baubles/ornaments in my kitchen window all year long by fishing wire, they look like they are floating and catch the light beautifully. I Hoe you give them a try! Happy painting friend.
😢I’m at a loss! I have been practicing the first few tutorials in my artisto books. I’m having trouble with it cause I just can’t remember what I have done. Then I remembered my practice work and just referred back to it. 😅. Hope you’re doing great today. I have 5 more to watch
I'm amazed at how you can use the tip of your paintbrush like a pen. I don't have the skill and confidence to do that at all yet. I'm afraid I would likely "cheat" and use a bright green glitter gel pen maybe for those pine needles. If it were me that is.
Oh! I think that would be beautiful! I say use whatever sonds like fun to create beauty. And what a great idea for the pine needles as they are quite a fine line. The glitter touches would be beautiful. Happy painting and most of all have fun you have some great ideas.
Love the trick of the glass rim! These are so quick and festive! As an aside; the turkeys here in the midwestern United States have heads which turn exactly that color blue when they are excited/roused! It's actually a perfect name!
Isnt that an easy tip for circles? (i cant draw a round circle for the life oef me!) I am hearing just that about turkeys, I sure would love to see that. We dont have turkeys around where I Live, but sounds beautiful for such an unusual looking bird~ Happy painting friend, I also use these circles for creating wreaths.
Thank you DiyDebs. Those were probably one of my favorites, the bright colors, splatters! I hope you will give them a try. Happy painting friend, and most of all have fun with this wonderful medium!
I have the same problem with the steadiness. the remedy is to use more of your arm motion and less of your wrist. it does require turning your canvas to aid in drawing the lines
Yes, I do that a lot, that's why I dont tape down my paper. I dont know how artists dont anchor their arms, and they stay steady. One coffee and that's it for me :-) (And I drink half1caff) Happyy painting friend, heres to steady hands and white space!
Thank you for that fun tutorial. I am up earlier than usual this morning and ended up finding your channel. What a delightful way to begin my day! Your painting is beautiful and watching you create it has been a wonderful way of welcoming in the days to begin preparing for Christmas. ❤
Im so glad I was able to provie you some beauty to start your morning. These were so much fun I hope you give them a try! Ha[py painting friend and happy holidays~
Thank you Inwouldmhave to put some Thought into that and how to make it simple .. I’m donhappybyounenjoy my tutorials xo Happy painting friend let’s keep creating
@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy I am a card maker and my first thought, using your idea of putting watercolors on the rim of a jar, would be to put watercolors on the rim portion of metal dies. Unfortunately those rims are extremely thin, thus the name “thin metal dies”! Lol It would probably be difficult to get just the outline of the rims. And then I would need to figure out how to “stamp” the die on paper. Thinking about it more I’m sure I could figure out ways to do this! And I don’t think I mentioned but I have a metal die that is about 5 x 5 1/2 that cuts out a silhouette of the stable frame, baby Jesus in the manger, Mary, and Joseph. This sounds like a fun project for me!
@@DonnaJo3452 What a great idea Donna~ I was thinking about painting a little manger with baby Jesus in it, and a bright star up above. I Could not find a relatively easy way to do this and teach it. What a fabulous die you have already in that shape. Lucky you, I would love to see how it turns out!
In regards "turkey blue", it may come from my observations of wild turkey. Our neighborhood had a large amount wild turkeys visit. There was 1 large male and he had about 6 hens with him. His head was a bright blue! I was really surprised!
Hi Jane, Yes, many of you have been saying that. We dont have turkeys around here but upon googling it you are all right~ Turkeys can have a bright blue head~ Fascinating.
Im so glad Paula! They are quite fun arent they. Especially that guoache and splatters. Everything is better with splatters I think :-) Happy paitning friend and most of all have fun!
It is not a mistranslation, Debbie. Turkey Tom's have several variations while they are prancing in the yard. Red signifies anger, and blue is a tranquil, more neutral mood. And yes, it is quite a pretty blue, which the choice of names describes the colour beautifully.😊😊😊
Thank you for your information. Someone else said that too, How fascinating are these birds? What fun. Happy painting friend, id love to see a turkey change like this one day.....
Thank you! Yes, i certainly was not the brilliant thinker behind the idea, but have used it for years. (I cant draw a circle for the life of me!) Have fun, I Use these circles a lot for wreaths too. Happy painting friend!
These turned out beautifully! I mail out hand painted cards to family and friends for every occasion. I find it to be very rewarding and people seem to love it. I believe this because they take the time to call or message telling me how special they feel receiving a card that was painted especially for them. I have those paints, and I think you're right. Something maybe was lost in translation. When I read "Turkey Blue" I instantly thought they meant "Peacock Blue." Those paints are really lovely. Thank you for this informative tutorial and for sharing your talent. Your channel is wonderful!
Im so happy to hear you still make your cards by hand, I do believe people appreciate that so much, I certainly do and I love making my own as well. Yes, "Turkey Blue" ISnt that funny? Definately Turqouise Blue lost in the translation somehow! Besides that I do like these paints and think they are great for beginners. Im glad my tutorials are fun and informative for you, Happy painting friend!
THANK YOU!! I have now found my Christmas cards for this year. You explain everything SO WELL and it helps to see you adding the paint to brush and how thick/thin it is. Very well done. Have a great season!!
Thank you Judi, IM so happy this was inspiring for you! I love making these little cards, I have some more for the holidays here too. I will continue to add to it for the holidays. ru-vid.com/group/PLGvRyB1lQxylvzG1UHIsnFx5z-rkL0jPY Happy painting friend!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoy my style of teaching (I know not for everyone!) I had so much fun with these, and done forget that qhite guoache, and metallics~ Happy painting friend.
Im so glad you enjoyed, I thought these were quite fun too! A little touch of metallic always adds a special touch! Splatters too! Happy painting friend!
You are so welcome! I thought the same, I always think I have more than enough time. This year I want to enjoy the process :-) Cant wait for you to see tomorrows fun card design~ Happy painting friend.
Thank you Very much Stefunnyha (love the name :-) That is what my intention always is, to share fun art supplies with you, and share my bloopers, my experiments, discoveries, and just plain have fun here. Im glad at the same time my teachings style is enjoyable for you, its how I learn best . Happy painting friend, and thanks for the kind words, you get me~ :-)
Thanks so much! I hope it inspired you to give them a try, the yare so fun, dont forget the Soparkles, and white guoache for splatter and snow! Happy painting friend.
Thank you Bobbie, I’m glad you appreciate that. It’s just how I am and how I like to paint and create thank you and so so glad to have you here with me.
@@DebbieWalkerArtmadeeasy I added a one stroke (otherwise I’d lift the paint already there) brush over the red one with the wonderful metallic gold watercolor paint you turned me on to (those were a great buy). Had to rinse and clean brush with each passing stroke but the result was a glittery red. I loved it. Onwards sister, so much more fun and adventures await us in the magical watercolor world.
I just love these. I have so much fun. I always make a lot of cards for the military Christmas Card - This way I can control the not so sentimental sayings that are pre-printed, I just want them to know we are thinking of them and not saying anything to personal about home. We know they and I want them home, but they are not forgotten.
That is so nice,so thoughtful. Ive done that in the past as well. Im sure its these little things that are huge for them. Thank you for sharing art with others, and yes, they are never forgotten. xo
Wonderful! That is why I share daily, I hoe to inspire everyone to give wateroclors a try, and most of all have fun! Happy painting friend, thank you , you m ade my day
He he right? I originally thought Oh no, im NOT ready for Christmas yet, and once I painted a few things, I was hooked! I hope you give these a try, they were awwfully fun!
I think so too These may be part of my card collection for this year! I paint all my own cards using the Strathmore blank watercolor cards so it takes me a while but so relaxing. Happy painting friend 🌸🎨
You're so welcome! IM glad it inspired you and was fun! OH! I love that word, yes; simple yet chic, perfect. Dont forget that little bit of guoache snow :-) Have fun!
YEAH! I am sure your recipient will love you for them! So fun arent they? Happy painting, I am hoping to have a few more fun ideas,, Snowflakes with metallics, A vintage snowman! of course a few more wreaths and trees! Happy painting friend.
Oh what fun! I would love to see a photo of that~ Turkeys are so colorful. I hope you give these a try, they were so much fun and made me smile. Happy painting friend~
