I personally think the effect that using that paint on that special paper has looks really good. Don't let people bully you into doing watercolor the "right" way. As long as your methods effectively convey the vision you have for your paintings, you're doing it right.

Wow i can’t believe my new favorite You-tuber of all time is back! in all seriousness i would love to have prints of your paintings on my wall, i just think they are so beautiful! The colors, the composition, the texture of the paper, everything is so visually entrancing to me, i’m excited to see what else you make!

The butterflies, fabulous. You mentioned that you paint to relax, but imho there is a market for your work...like an Etsy shop. Well done Mick, ty for the Sunday measure of beautiful, hand painted, watercolors.✨....Also the miniature pet animal figures you made for your mom, very cool 💖

I have little interest in painting myself. But it’s sometimes wonderful to see what other people already have or are creating. These were really lovely. Also, it’s cool how there seems, at least to me, to be a lack of fear when you’re painting. What I mean by that is sometimes you would be painting such a tiny stroke so quickly and freely and naturally. I would be nervous and full of fear that I would mess up the fish’s whiskers or little speckles and ruin something beautiful the more I tried to tweak it or whatever. But here I’m like, wow, the more that was added, the more wonderful it became. Thank you for sharing.

It's nice to see another painting video from you! As a fellow artist, I love your take on what makes "good" art. I'm always trying to inspire others to keep a sketchbook and just create for the sake of the pure enjoyment of creating. Experiment, try different mediums, don't worry about being perfect or "good", just enjoy the process. I look forward to seeing more from you! I'm glad I was recommended your channel! ❤

Hey Mick! First off, your watercolors are not poorly done. Different or non-tradtional doesnt equate to incorrect usage. I'm *incredibly* impressed by what you're able to get that particular set to do. I actually have a similar journal for one of my D&D characters that I've done ink drawings/paintings in, but your videos are makinge want to try that paper out with some gouache! Lovely work.

Honestly I've watched two of your videos and when you said 'Your new favourite RU-vidr of all time', I had no disagreement. Beautifully filmed and narrated. Brushes are also the one thing I really no not splurge on and like to keep hella cheap and cheerful since they only get ruined anyway. Much prefer to pay my pennies on beautiful paper and paint. I truly love your painting style, keep up the great work.

Nice description of the personal why of creativity and the unfolding of subsequent art. Appreciate, too, recognition of....pursuing one's art regardless of whether a particular piece is or is not in keeping with one's hopes or expectations. And, as an ongoing observer of the indescribable beauty of the natural world for decades on the macro and micro level, I appreciate the subject matter herein.

Love the flutterbyes... About your brushes: do what you will with them but I would suggest changing the water regulatly as the "mud" in the water influences the true pigment colours. Pigments are magic!

I personally am terrified of my brushes getting destroyed, but I don't despair when they get worn out or damaged. Your tools will show how you've used them. There's nothing wrong with that :) Also, I don't think making your watercolor paintings look like what most people would consider a watercolor painting is necessary. The medium you work in should be able to be pushed around by you, it's part of the fun in my opinion :)

I would LOVE to hear about your thoughts on the history and chemistry of color! Not only about how we humans have learned to synthesize and utilize it, but how animals manipulate it as well. If of course that’s something you’re into haha. Also, not sure if you’ve ever painted on black paper, but I really enjoy painting cuttlefish and cephalopods in bursts of color on black and indigo backgrounds - highly recommend you try it, especially with masking fluid and watercolor pencils :D But yeah, your colors?? Fricking goals man. Love your work, can’t wait to see your next video!

Your paintings are lovely! Having said that after all the talk about not caring about your paintbrushes I still think you would get more satisfaction and excitement by treating your brushes like the precious tool they’re supposed to be. I love my paintbrushes and my paints. They’re my babies and I look after them with the same care I would my pets or children. It makes my whole painting experience richer and more meaningful. You wouldn’t have to paint any differently. Just give them a bit of gratefulness when you start painting and a bit of loving attention when you finish painting. More love and happiness for your painting sessions me thinks 😊

Agreed! I have some cheap art supplies too but I treat it like all my other expensive supplies. Why you have to endure a damaged paintbrush mean while all you have to do is put carefully and tidiness into it? I guess it's his personality plus, he's not into art seriously (?)

Thanks for addressing the book request. Is there anyway you could provide a link? I have searched under ancient journal and about several hundred show up none with that specific name though. I don’t know which one and it is important that the paper be able to hold the watercolour. Thanks!

It is amazing how you draw the paintings with the paint using that bent little brush, without sketching or drawing the image before you begin painting. I love paintings of flora and fauna, and of nature in general, I find it so inspiring. I am pretty sure the butterfly designs and shapes you painted are not specific species, but probably came from viewing references (like the book on the table in the video) and then using your own creativity, and I think they turned out beautiful. But what about the fish you painted? Were they real species, or your own creative designs? It would be great if you would list the names and authors of the books you showed in the first video in the notes section on the next video. They looked like great learning and reference books for painting, and I would love to know the titles and authors. I would greatly appreciate it, thank you.
@Mickmakesstuff411
@Mickmakesstuff411 7 месяцев назад
No, they weren’t real species. I’m sort of in the process of creating a fictional ecosystem, so when I paint, I’m painting from the perspective of an sort of field biologist for this world. As for the books, I plan to do a video soon on finding inspiration, and I’ll go more in depth there :)

I love your painting style. It’s unique and all you, and that’s what every artist wants anyway their own style and you’ve nailed it out of the gate. I tried to find the journel on Amazon but I couldn’t figure out which was the one you have. Also is the paper you start this video with separate😅 from the journal and a different size? Ahh now we all want to be like you. I was just drawing something quick as I try to do each day yesterday on lined paper because it was beside me. Wouldn’t you know it went very well and my thought was you have got to get good paper to draw on for just this case. I like the tone and rustic finish of your chosen papers and it does make your work look even better. RU-vidr Rachel’s Rocks, uses a strange brush which everyone wanted and it was same as your brush that she took most of the bristles out of and left in her water jar and the bend actually was a bonus to her painting nice and loose. Dewinton Paper Co is another RU-vidr who is an amazing watercolorist and a very good teacher. I knew nothing about the technical aspects of watercolor and she is great at explaining and keeping it simple. I am very impressed with the fact you do not draw a sketch before diving in! Wow!
