Can it be intimidating to create a whole painting on a large sheet of paper? Yes, it definitely can. Sometimes you just want to try things out without the pressure of the whole blank page and feeling like you have to complete the whole painting form beginning to end with no mistakes. Maybe you want to freedom to experiment a bit and make bolder choices than you normally would.
Let's break up our page into small vignettes so we can play and experiment with these small skys.

Love the miniatures! I’m new to watercolour and the tiny paintings are so much more enjoyable as it feels like you don’t have to take them too seriously.

I love the way you teach, explaining you process and the watching it happen. Thank you, now following and subscribe. I was a Equine photographer for 25 years but now I want to learn a new way of expressing and watercolor seems so surreal.

I agree that smaller paintings feel less daunting. These are lovely for sketchbooks, but each one could be mounted and framed as a small gift. Thank you. 🤗🇬🇧

Thank you from Italy!, This is one of the very few channels where beginners are encouraged to paint and learn step by step following the teacher and actually produce a little piece. I was tired of people showing quickly a paint and then sending viewers to their patreon for the tutorial. I would like to come to your studio but I live in Italy. Thank you so much.

Thank you Shana, I really enjoyed this format as a beginner. Lots of things to learn but broken down into a smaller setting especially for working on all the different washes. I hope you might consider this for a series. “ Watercolor Painting: mini skills, drills, hills and stills for the extreme beginner”

Shana, thanks so much for this video. I had not thought, as a beginner, to tape off squares of my larger paper. Duh…. Loving this idea. I’m still a newbie at all of this. Loving the journey though. It totally takes my mind off of my illness and I get very meditative when I paint. I just think happy thoughts! ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you so much for this video. I love that you decided to make this into a series! After years of watching tutorials and buying loads of supplies to not use, this video actually got me painting. I made 4 little paintings today. No, they aren't the prettiest. But I'm so proud I finally actually painted something. I got reasonable to good quality stuff (faber castell and derwent pencils, amsterdam acrylic paints, strathmore paper and pastelmat) but everything watercolor I have is like just above middle school quality lol. I started out planning to follow along but the cheap paper took up the water so fast that as soon as that brush hit the paper, I haven't seen another second of the video and just kept painting. Will be looking forward to more videos and definately considering becoming a member. Your videos are very inspiring. Thanks again.
