My DaD worked on this movie, he built most of the sets. I used to have a bunch of the movie props in my room growing up as a kid. He thought the movie was a little cheese but had fun working on it. I watch it PoPS to see your name in the credits. - R.I.P.

Did you know this fun fact : The movie that inspired Twin Peaks. David Lynch stole ( rented ) most of his ideas from here. You got Bobby Brigs , the same actor in the same role. The main character, who likes to dress in suits, a bit wacko, turns into a detective and drinks coffee in the morning with a big smile. You got the girls who wanna go wild in their dreams. You got the msytery house in the middle of the street in a small american town .You got the dwarf with the strange moves, the giant who is serving drinks. And they are all together in the waiting room with the couches. The idea of One eyed jack is here in the scene when Sade Marquie is whipping one of the girls. They are french, the sexy dresses on the girls, etc. Then there is the games with fire and neon signs. So Waxwork is a great movie, but it also inspired Twin Peaks ! Thats all folks !

Agreed. Its a bunch of old guys vs famous villains throughout history. Silly but it fits the tone of the movie perfectly.

The funniest bit was when the guy smashes a chair over the werewolf's head and it just calmly brushes the splinters off its shoulder before lunging at him.

Honestly, the scariest werewolf, vampires, and mummy I've seen on film. I may be biased, though, since this movie was totally a part of my childhood. Gr8 material to work your imagination with all the unseen waxworks scenarios.

The best bit is when the hunter smashes a chair over the werewolf's head - which doesn't faze it even slightly. It brushes a bit of splintered wood off its shoulder, staring at the guy, then attacks. Sassy werewolf.

I love & own this movie! The midget who opened the door & let them in, was Mihaly Michu Meszaros. Better known as the little guy who wore the ALF suit, in scenes from season 1, where ALF was shown walking. He was also in Big Top PeeWee. R.I.P. Mihaly.

I remember watching Waxwork and the sequel. Really campy fun. Great review. Lost it on trying to cosplay Colin Baker. David Warner eventually guest starred in the Doctor Who episode Cold War with Matt Smith & Jenna Coleman. Anthony Hickox didn't know Andrew Lloyd Webber's then wife was named Sarah Brightman. The Phantom of The Opera musical just premiered on Broadway the same year as Waxwork was released.

GoodBadFlicks Interesting story here: I actually first saw Waxwork AND The Nest as a "double feature" on a VHS tape I bought at a swap meet in Florida. The vendor, or someone else, recorded both movies onto a typical store-bought, blank VHS tape to apparently sell to unsuspecting blokes like myself. The video was grainy and of less than stellar quality. But, in retrospect, it made the viewing of these two GoodBadFlicks that much more AWESOME! ....On the bad side of this story? The same guy what sold me the tape ALSO sold me a faulty Sega Saturn for $20. I didn't discover it was faulty until I took it home, and attempted to play a game. No such luck! The system froze at the title screen!! That's the advantage of being a young and stupid kid, I suppose. XD

Great movie back in the day to rent and watch with friends. Considering how quickly the script was written, the performances were mostly great. And I’m surprised to hear they had one night to shoot that Night of the Living Dead homage, given how good it looked. Waxwork II, though, is completely bonkers. It’s like they went for the Gremlins 2 approach, and couldn’t pull it off anywhere nearly as well. There are some fun surprise cameos in it, though.

Even though Waxwork is not specifically about werewolves, it brings back the memories of days when werewolves were ferocious and powerful beast of fiction. Channeling films, like the Howling series, An American Werewolf in London, Ginger Snaps, and Company of Wolves and then watching modern day incarnations of werewolves, like in the Twilight Series, the (new) Teen Wolf series, and True Blood. Werewolves were actually kind of scary...
@pluto545
@pluto545 11 лет назад
I've seen Dog Soldiers, it was a great little horror flick from across the pond, so was Skinwalkers (which I believe was produced in Canada). Though back to Waxwork, the scene with the gigantic Werewolf (John Rhys-Davis) rips and tears through flesh like a cheaply made doll, but in human form is a man who gravely fears his transformation. I guess I like how werewolves embody the quality of vicious monsters with a little heart.

Ok just watched this movie. This review is awesome . OK, back when I was kid in the early 80s that midget, Michu, was in the ringing bros circus. I was in the 4th row and they were doing this Tarzan thing. Michu was Tarzan. There were clowns. There was supposed to be a Tarzan yell and Michu was supposed to swing down on a vine I guess. The rope broke. Michu plunged from the upper platform and hit the floor, the "vine" followed. He just sat there, covered in the vine. Kids started laughing, thinking it was part of the show. Three guys in business shuts run into the ring. The clown start ad-libbing to distract. No one is watching them. The men in suits carry Michu off, wrapped in the fake vine. I 'm 47, I never forgot that. He plunged to the floor in front of me.

But it's the sauce that makes the dish."in the vampire section. And the part where Sarah was getting into the whipping was so hot. I sometimes wonder if I was a bit hasty closing my Fetlife account. Its worth noting, if no one else has that whathisname's godfather was played by veteran British actor Patrick Macnee, most well known for his role as John Steed in the Avengers, and the New Avengers.

This movie is very similar to a PC horror game called, "Waxworks". It has a dead relative who happens to have a magic wax museum, and lots of gore.

I like the second one better because of the more obvious parodies and the epic sword fight at the end.

Yeah. I liked the second one more cause it was wacky and unpredictable. It went anywhere, and it had better humor.
