I love this show but considering how much time we had to wait for Hamilton which is legit one of the greatest ever .... This is going to be complicated
her dancing is even more impressive imo bc it was raining. before the show they had ppl mopping the stage but you see it’s still totally soaked. before she was like testing it out to make sure she wouldn’t slip
Im honestly so incredibly impressed and floored by her. She is so perfect for the role and gives it so much life. Her abillity to sing and dance with such tunes, with so much character, and perhaps most important, a humbleness. She feels vurnable. To have so many qualities at the same time is extremely rare. Absolute queen. Love her ❤️
I didn't realize that wasn't patrick until hades spoke - but I really enjoy the twist he's put on the character! Even from this little bit you can tell he's changed it up a bit.
See this is what I love about theater! Different interpretations of a character open new doors for how the story is told. We all love Patrick but Tom? I'm VERY excited to see what he's gonna do with the role, based on THREE WORDS!
@@bi_beans9011 When I saw it a few weeks ago, the main difference I saw was that Tom is a little more animated. Patrick is much colder and stoic, but Tom has more expression and movement. Both were valid interpretations of the character and I enjoyed both.
i saw tom and he was amazing! he plays hades very well, and my favorite song for him is honestly the intro to papers. he’s more animated, but still ominous and threatening
Listened to the song so many times but seeing it performed makes it seem brand new, the way hades and Persephone look back and Orpheus and Eurydice, wow!
I'm honestly just so happy for the cast to be back doing what they love! I love watching the cast for their little mannerisms. Reeve as Orpheus being cautious and a little guarded but dropping that when his lover encourages him to take part of the number. Eva as Eurydice getting quickly sold on Hadestown, like she might be developing a slight crush on Hades as a sort of bad boy archetype but also thinking, "Well maybe Hadestown isn't all *that* bad" since at this point Hadestown seems like a better option than being on the brink of starvation during the winter and having a lover whom, while is very optimistic in seeing the world how it could be, has a hard time getting his head out of the clouds and acknowledging the severity of the situation, quite literally ignoring her to work on his song to save/fix the world. Amber, an absolute icon, as Persephone being just so thoroughly fed up with her situation with Hades. She seems more visibly disgusted and angered that Hades came to retrieve her so early because he's let his insecurities, doubt, to set in and dictate his relationship to her because he's so scared of losing her. We can see that he locks her in a gilded cage because he's afraid she'll never return when he lets her out, thereby trapping her and suffocating her due to his own insecurity. As for Hades, well I've never seen Timothy Hewitt in the role-- I'm not all that familiar with him as an actor, but I did kinda notice that smirk he had after Eurydice sings "Kinda makes ya wonder how it feels" and it's a little chilling. It seems like this is the moment where he first notices Eurydice and begins formulating how to steal her away to Hadestown, rather than what often seemed like the end of "Chant" when this happens with Patrick's Hades. In fact, I noticed a smirk from Persephone too, and her that little sigh/scoff (?) directed at Eurydice. It's almost like she's saying, "Oh, honey!" or "Oh you sweet summer child!" without actually saying anything, like you can tell she's thinking, "You sweet naïve thing! I was like you once, taken in by Hades sweet talk!" and poor Orpheus seems, for the first time in the story, like he knows where this is all going and it won't end well, but he's too scared/intimidated by Hades at this point to do anything to stop it. As for the wonderful Andre as Hermes, he just looks so happy to be there and honestly I can't think of anything more wholesome than that.
@@rhys9130 great! it was a little weird in the first act but i definitely warmed up to him and he got a lot better in the second lot more expressive then patrick’s which was pretty interesting, he had pretty good chemistry with amber, overall really nice! he really put his own spin on the character
I saw this show in September. There's nothing like it. It's such an incredible experience. The whole cast was excellent. Andre de Shields and Amber Gray are no longer with the show, but their replacements, Lillias White and Jewelle Blackman, were great, as were the OBCMs that are still there. Same goes for the ensemble and exceptional band.
This is so exciting! So my band is doing a concert for school before Halloween and I'm going to be dressing up as Orpheus, since this is both my favorite musical and my favorite Greek myth! The interpretation that Reeve has for Orpheus is my favorite one out of the different actors that have portrayed this character, and I'm super excited to be showing my love for this musical/myth at my school's band concert. Happy Halloween Hadestown cast and fans!
they sound incredible!!! if anyone has a full bootleg of this cast i would love to see it (my parents wont let me see broadway shows til they remove the mask mandates)
@@aerynsunx I just saw him live and he was AMAZING!!! I was dissapointed too when I first found out i wouldnt see patrick bc he was my favorite, but Tom’s hades is so so good!!! He changes up hades a bit and he’s really fun to watch! I told myself i’ll forever have patrick’s song to listen, so it was nice to have tom to spice it up:)
Oh the Road to Hell there was a railroad track Oh, come on! There was a train comin' up from way down below That was not six months! Better go and get your suitcase packed, guess it's time to go She's gonna ride that train Ride that train... She's gonna ride that train Ride that train! She's gonna ride that train until the end of the line Because the King of the Mine is coming to call Did you ever wonder what it's like on the underside? Way down under On the yonder side? Way down yonder On the other side of his lawn? Follow that dollar for a long way down Far away from the poorhouse door You either get to hell or to Hadestown Ain't no difference anymore! Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Hound dog howl and the whistle blow Train come a-rollin, clickety-clack Everybody tryin' to get a ticket to go Those who go they don't come back They goin' Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Ha! Winter's nigh and summer's o'er Hear that high and lonesome sound Of my husband coming for To bring me home to Hadestown Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Down there, it's a bunch of stiffs Brother, I'll be bored to death Gonna have to import some stuff Just to entertain myself Give me morphine in the tin Give me a crate of the fruit of the vine Takes a lot of medicine To make it through the wintertime Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Every little penny in the wishing well Every little nickel on the drum On the drum! All them shiny little heads and tails Where do you think they come from? They come from Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Everybody hungry Everybody tired Everybody slaves by the sweat of his brow The wage is nothing and the work is hard It's a graveyard in Hadestown Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Mr. Hades is a mean old boss With a silver whistle and a golden scale An eye for an eye! And he weighs the cost A lie for a lie! And your soul for sale Sold! To the king on the chromium throne Thrown! To the bottom of a Sing Sing cell Where the little wheel squeals and the big wheel groans And you better forget about your wishing well Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground On the Road to Hell, there was a railroad car And the car door opened and a man stepped out Everybody looked and everybody saw It was the same man they'd been singing about You're early I missed you Mr. Hades is a mighty king Must be making some mighty big deals Seems like he owns everything Kind of makes you wonder how it feels All aboard... A-one, A-two A-one, two, three, four Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Way down Hadestown Way down under the ground Way down under the ground Way down under the ground
wait this guy who is not patrick page does not have a deep voice at all . . . . wth. the shock of how deep patrick's voice is is what makes that first line so much fun. also, reeve is so hot, but that haircut is not doing him any favors. he looks like a little boy.
I don't think the new Hades is that bad, like ofc Patrick Page is never gonna be topped but this guy's interpretation of the line was pretty solid, had a little country tone in his voice
@@themoviecritic1092 Yeah his little drawl made songs like Hey Little Songbird and How Long really good and reminded me of the 2010 album. He's generally a fantastic Hades this song is just a poor way of showing since the entire moment was designed for Page's deep voice which is super rare to have.
