As a teenager, I played the hell outta that "Outlaws" album and Willie's "Red headed Stranger". I was hooked on their sound forever. Waylon was a great singer and songwriter, much underrated.

I remember listening to this to go to sleep in my 18 wheeler at a truck stop in Mountain Home Idaho. When he said he didn’t like “luckenbach”, I yelled “you gotta be shitting me”!, and I sat up when I said it and banged my head. I remember the first time I heard Waylon, during a high school class with someone pulled into the parking lot playing that song and I was instantly a fan.

I just don't know what to say about waylon. He has always been my greatest singer. I never knew all this info about him. I am so glad he rejected the drugs toward the end of his life. I wish I could have heard this back in 2000. My son was hooked on drugs, cocaine and I don't know what else. He died March 24, 2005. No autopsy. I found him lying on the couch and his son playing video games and didn't even know his dad was dead. We just assumed it was drugs. During that time, his son had seen him and his mom doing the sniffing of cocaine. I don't know what else he saw. But here it is April 2022 and I am hurting so bad because his son OD on Sept 17 2021. He was just 24. I just don't how to live with all this. I think about them all the time. I'm hoping that whoever reads this, will quit before the children get involved in it. My son left a son and daughter. My grandson left a daughter that I don't get to see often. If you know anyone like this pray for them to get help, and pray that our Lord Jesus Christ will forgive them. It really hurts. Thanks to Jessie for helping and praying for Waylon. He still is my favorite singer. I still love him and Jessie. I'm just hurting and not a day goes by without me thinking that I wish I could have helped. Quit the drugs and turn to Jesus before it's too late.

Waylon's wife was one of those women who made me realize what all the fuss about girls was among my older brother and his friends . That woman was staggeringly hot. Country music to me was Chet Atkins , Jim Reeves , Don Williams and the people who appeared on Hee Haw. Like lots of people I discovered Waylon on the Dukes of Hazzard. But once I got my hands on the albums I realized he was different than anyone else in the business. He was cool.

The reason why Hollywood can't make this into a movie is they couldn't resit the temptation to change it into fiction. The truth of the matter is, truth is stranger than fiction. Hollywood wouldn't be satisfied to leave it alone, they would have to make it into a lie, which would ruin the whole thing.Waylon was better than Hollywood, that's why he called it Hollyweird. Waylon was too real for Hollywood, they can't stand real, it's all fake out there, no room for truth.

I was a huge Waylon fan from the time of his first album Nashville rebel until the "Outlaw's " album. But unforetunately when I saw him live in Sugarloaf Maine his onstage behavior was so appauling it changed my impression of him. 30,000 people "booing him" so I wasn't the only one who was disappointed. That 's why I still respected Johnny Cash , who was also a drug addict BUT CASH NEVER GLORIFIED IT like Waylon did. Sure in his last years he did his best to back track and as such I "foregave" him. But every story has two sides and the Nashville brass have good memories and a lot of young people died trying to emulate Waylon and that NEVER GETS PUBLISHED...not to mention the fact that he ALMOST ALWAYS refused to sign autographs stating " that's not part of my job".

Elvis should have taken a move like that for himself. He wouldn’t have gotten so cheated if he had. By the mid 70s I think Elvis knew he was so sick and he wouldn’t take time to get the surgeries he needed to help his health. He knew he had 4 uncles and a mother who all died in their 40s. No one knew but Elvis wore those glasses for his eyes. He almost lost his eye sight so close that he had to have a eye doc come give him a shot in his direct eye ball everyday at the same time. They used to stop a recording session and lay him down on the floor and the guys held onto him at his direction while the eye doctor gave him the shot. He had glaucoma and there was not much they could go but give him the shots. He needed the surgery on his colon but back then they couldn’t guarantee he wouldn’t have to wear a bag the rest of his life. They just didn’t have a good out cone at the time. He had heart issues and I can’t even remember all the stuff. But if he had taken a step back and start over he might have survived better.

Love waylons music and this recounting etc. However, its amazing how his voice changed. I heard his live album the other day and when he would talk and sing it was so deep. Then, seemingly sometime after 1980 or so. His voice went higher and sounded like a person that had trouble breathing or something.
