I really like how she explains, as she actually does the task. This is good instruction for guys like me, who know nothing about this process. What a great woman!

I have a no cost compost method for the midwest. I use old food bags in a small bucked and dump the food scraps out behind the garage and then toss the old food bag in the garbage. Use what you have. You don't need any products to start composting. After a year scoop it up with a shovel and toss it under the bushes and trees. Free fertilizer, no cost, no raccoons digging in your garbage. Everything composts naturally within a month or two.

We have a compost crate outside our kitchen window and just throw it all in and shovel some soil over it periodically. It's super easy and clean because we don't eat any meat.

Hey Wendi, wouldn't shredded paper work instead of buying stuff to dry out the mix? That's what I do. Keep those worm bins firing - awesome stuff.
@wendiland
@wendiland Год назад
Shredded paper will absolutely work! Just a personal preference I don’t want to put bleached paper with the compost. Card board would be great too, but I don’t have enough after shredding. 😆

We are using a plastic koi pond type tub for a 'hungry bin' for compost. Careful not to use too much/what kind of food waste so to not attract rats. Mostly leaves and grass cuttings with some dirt.
@wendiland
@wendiland Год назад
All composters have lids, but for extra assurance I can always put some weight on so critters can’t get in. Great idea on using the koi pond tub! Would love to see a pic of how you do it. :)

Seeing your smile and your being all bundled up Wendi in among all that lush green foliage seems to suggest that you must be enduring one of those 50 degree southern California days? Always so very enjoyable to follow your methods of creating soil amendments. How much do you cut your worm juice before you apply to the plants? Or does the soil itself limit the initial hit of good nutrient rich worm juice? Hope you are not too surprised to hear that up this way, it is snowing outside lol -Bob...

I use that bedding for cat litter. All natural and cheap. Works great.

Compost huh 🙁 it's opposite of decompost.sition? I guess The video cleared it :) but i imagine plant sensei explain & covering such topics using a white board & marker in open sunlight lol

I like to release the worms directly into the garden. I have 1 foot of mulch throughout most of my garden,

@@wendiland yes. You have very informative videos. I have learned a lot from people all over the world that I have never met. Experimenting with indoor food gardens right now. Wish me luck 🍀

Thank you Wendi, I don't feel (as) embarrassed for having 6 compost bins at my home :). However, i may have to make it 7 with the bokashi method as i have never tried that. Do you happen to have a affiliate link for that hungry bin? How well do the worms work in that bin...digesting the larger clippings from your yard?
@wendiland
@wendiland Год назад
7 is the lucky number! :D and if only I had the space for that many..lol I just added the links for the Hungry bin in the description below the video. Branches do take much longer to compost so anything too thick I won't put inside. Larger clippings do take much longer, but things do seem to soften and compress pretty well so it does make room for more scraps to go in. I'm just tired of manually slicing up the clippings so I just throw them in the Hungry bin. Thank you for all your support and conversations. Have a great holiday!!

Hello! Loved your video! I just wanted to ask (off topic) but is there any type of plant that looks like betel leaf, but isn't? I live in tropical Australia and I have a ground cover plant that looks a lot like betel leaf, but I don't really know (if its like poisonous?), could you tell me if it is? Thank You, I LOOOOOOVE composting by the way! I have compost worms TOOO!!! :D
@JeePnoY1

What about mosquitoes , wouldn’t they start breeding on the compost tea area .. how would you prevent that
@wendiland
@wendiland Год назад
I usually don’t let the liquid sit around for that long. Better to dilute it and water the garden while it’s still fresh. Only if let liquid sit around for days will it attract mosquitoes.

The worm sold in bait shops or walmart. Why not use them?

In place composting does work great, but some of us don’t have anywhere to dig, or is not capable of digging.
