I’m not going to lie, I want to watch this movie. Not to support Ezra, but because I’m a comic book movie nerd. However, Warner needs to say or do something about this situation, at least release a PR statement about Miller.
Likewise I will watch it regardless because I'm a DC fan and I want to see all the other characters I just think they should recast and reshoot so that the mass audience can enjoy this film on multiple viewings. I want to feel like I can support it without feeling conflicted and I think the only way to achieve that is to remove Ezra completely.
WB needs to release a statement saying that Miller will not be back as The Flash after the film is released, but that they will still release the film in respect to the filmmakers and actors - that they condemn Miller’s actions.
Seems to me like the tamest thing WB can do is to still release the movie but with a statement (maybe even **IN** the movie) that acknowledges the terrible actions of the star, but that this movie was the product of so many more people's efforts than just that one star, and that the movie is being released to celebrate and honor everybody else's hard work. Something to that effect, but proofread and better-worded.
Good point at the very end! redoing the film focusing on Batman, and supergirl, could actually work, cut all Barry out besides him screwing up the universe, erasing himself (kinda poetic) and just have the film a Batman and supergirl world building event. Still call it flash point, have a different flash show up for the big fight, an alternate Barry and boom, Ezra becomes a cameoish scene, not needed for marketing, and he’s gone as the flash, and wb doesn’t have to market Ezra heavily
I see 2 options 1.) Have the movie end with a HUGE explosion and rename the film “The Flash Kills the DCEU” then just have the entire franchise start over with a new film or with “The Batman” Or 2.) Release the movie as is with Ezra as the flash but change the ending where Flash returns to his timeline looks in a mirror and is shocked to see he looks different and is a different actor playing him
I'd say reshooting all of Ezra's scenes is their only best option now as it respects the efforts of others in this movie while retaining the Flash franchise. I don't think it'll cost another 200 million since The Snyder Cut only cost an extra 80 million for a 4 hour movie. I'd say Warner is looking at just spending another 120 million at most to recast and reshoot only all of the Flash's scenes and use CG / advanced roto (ala done in army of the dead) to remove Ezra.
The Snyder Cut was a completely different thing. The majority of that movie was finished when Zack left the project to deal with his family stuff. It wasn't like he took Whedon's movie and expanded it by 2 more hours, it was already 4 hours and the Whedon cut was whittled down. That $80M went into finishing what was already 90% complete
I feel so bad for Andy Muschietti, Michael Keaton and Sasha Calle, they put everything on this movie. I remember the reaction of Sasha when she was cast as Supergirl, she was so happy. And then, this freaking a-hole called Ezra Miller throws everything away because of his criminal behaviour, and throws everyone involved on the movie down the bus with him. I hope Ezra Miller never gets a job as an actor again.
It’s really amazing that the Harry Potter franchise went a decade without a SINGLE actor in the series having any kind of public controversy. It’s impressive. Both the MCU and DCEU struggled with something at one point or another
@@brandonreed09 That’s a fair point but still. You had a series centered around kid actors who were all millionaires by the time they turned 16. It’s still amazing that none of them ever got into any public or legal trouble
@@ChienaAvtzon eh, I feel like jk Rowling did a better job at bringing the franchise down before ezra, now it’s in a worse spot but Rowling really hurt the franchise, and she still Doesn’t know how to stop and re think her tweets before saying something.
WB shelve the movie, they lose money. They recast and reshoot, they lose money and delay the movie again. They release it, they are seen as money grabbers who don't care. WB have already damaged themselves by not condemning Ezra's actions from the start. This is a no win situation all round. The boy clearly has issues and it seems no one is helping him. His career as an actor is over.
The only win for the company was to simply make the movie about Batman instead of Flash, the Flashpoint storyline is already more Batman centric than Flash centric anyways. The problem is simply that the Muschetti would be PISSED.
The Flash movie is doomed . I also don't feel I can ever watch or enjoy THAT (you know the one I mean) moment in the Snyder Cut as much or in the same way or as as much as I did before I realised what Ezra has been doing in in his private life.
@@jahazielcipolla i mean i wouldn’t watch it either but if it got good reviews i could say it’s trash without seeing it just because i hate with all my heart who made it thats y i say it depends sometimes the two need separated but i get what ur saying it tarnishes the experience i’m jewish & i’ve never been able to enjoy mel gibson movies as much since his rant where he used slurs against us
I think a Good compromise would be to have whoever they recast ezra with reshoot the scenes ezra did as the alternate flash, and after the main flash inevitably goes back in time to fix everything just have it that his appearance changes to the new flash actor.
He definitely screwed things up for sequels but I really think this movie is more successful than it would have been with no controversy or drama. Plus lets be honest, everybody who worked on the film has been paid and I really think this only improves anybody getting backend bonuses.
This film has multiple Flashs, instead of refilming all of Ezra’s shots, reshoot the other Flash with a new actor and have him take over at the end of the film.
Honestly bring Grant Gustin and the reverse flash actor Tom Cavanagh and reshoot it. You'd at least bring og/current flash TV show fans to be interested. Which way back in season 1/2 when almost 5million people were invested before the cw writing team essentially mismanaged each season after.
Just put gustin and cavanagh and just have them from a different earth, DC fans know there are multiple earths so just write it as if they came from a different one, therefore your not necessarily taking away sunders verse, your just adding a different one to the story, and make keatons batman knowledgeable of the presence of other existing timelines
If Ezzy actually kills somebody then what if anything will they WB do. At a certain point you have to remove the turd sitting in the middle of the floor.
As bad as this situation is (and it's very bad), it'll get worse the closer we get to the release date once news media ramps up their discussion about Ezra and their situation
Given his history of abuse im legit worried for the young woman who is in hiding with him espcially if hes saying hes in another "Universe". If the worst happens i dont think they will be able to release it.
Once Miller crossed the line with kids that really changed the situation. Who wants to see a movie with their kids with the lead actor being a groomer?
Just release the film. Its the simplist and cheapest option. Hopefully WB learned from Justice League that reshooting a whole movie isn't the best way to go. Add a few scenes at the end with a new Flash. One of the central points of the film involves bringing a new batman into the DCEU, so introducting a new Flash isnt that far out there. In regards to Miller, the fact is unless he starts killing people, most of the movie going public won't know or care about his recent antics. So I don't think the impact on the box office will be that drastic. If the film is as good as its rumored to be, everything will be fine. Miller is recast, the audience is entertained, and WB makes a little profit. Win win.
Rob’s idea is not bad. Batman’s flashpoint. Bring back more of Ben Affleck’s batman and introduce a what if scenario. Play up the role of supergirl and introduce reverse flash as the big bad. WB can do this. Reduce and minimize his role.
I believe if they decided to reshoot the movie and spend another 100 million or so, I truly think people will appreciate that they are removing Ezra and support the movie MORE knowing how much effort and work they are putting into it now to reshoot it. I know I for one will definitely do my part and see it multiple times in theaters. Yes they might not end up making much if any money from the movie, but they can at least then have a fresh start with a new actor and continue the DCEU afterwords with a new Flash and people won't be sour towards the movie in the future watching it back knowing that this guy did those things while watching it. Rob has a point in not rewarding Ezra for this behavior by allowing him to still be the star in this movie. He doesn't deserve to have this movie come out anymore. I think Warner Bros should bite the bullet and reshoot it. They will recover. It's DC. They have many more huge movies ahead to make money off of.
English doesn't have a dedicated personal pronoun that isn't gendered. Some people don't identify as a "he" or a "she", so "they" is the best we have in English. We can't use "it" because that's dehumanizing.
but who cares what he/she Ezra wants to be called - he is a criminal. Plus ‘they’ is very poor English language as it suggests plural. Let these gender confused gang invent a new job word rather than misusing an existing one!
The way I see things, the movie is not set to be released until June 2023. That's a whole year that the general public will probably forget about Ezra's erratic behavior. Once the release date approaches, probably highlight the other prominent actors in the film, which will be hard because Ezra is the main character, when promoting the film. That's my take. As long as Ezra is not making noise around the release date, I think the movie will probably do good at the box office. Also this could be a case where controversy creates cash.
Robert is right and I have similar thoughts. This can get worse. More allegations, additional bad behavior or assault. Very bad things can happen, people do horrrible things to others in this world. WB needs to make a clear separation now. I care nothing about what happens to Ezra but very concerned about the violence towards women, trans women, and others. Thank you Chris for laying it out clearly! How can people be fu(king wishy washy about this.
I sorta agree, but that certainly would NOT be cheap… plus it could end in the film feeling totally disjointed, scenes feeling and looking like a a quick reshoot.
@@Cloudy_Games_99 ,Yes they would have to do a really good job of it but the alternative is that I personally won't go see it with Ezra, that ship has sailed.
I could agree, but issue is, it would feel odd, unless we get a backstory for new actor as a new flash, because weve established this Barry as Barry from dceu, secrets of dumbledor had a bit of a sore spot on madds playing grindlewald and that was before trial, so we assume this is still Barry from the dceu? Because the other connections we got are batfleck is in this film, he has a conversation with barry about justice league and it’ll be kinda odd. I mean they could go in and fix that, and make this it’s own thing ala The Batman but still the story could come off as odd, the route they might have to go but still
We as moviegoers can send a message to the WB by not seeing this movie when it comes out. I’m not paying to see a movie starring such a huge jerk like Miller.
Ezra will never play The Flash again after this, but people who think WB will shelve this movie and take that financial hit are delusional. They're going to release the film, try to market it as cleanly as possible to get butts in seats, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actually turned a profit on the film. I think everyone who's been paying attention can agree that Ezra's behavior is completely unacceptable, but I'm not sure how much the general movie going audience pays attention or if they'll even let that stop them from seeing the film.
I don’t feel sorry for Warner Bros. at all. There was a video of Ezra choking a woman years ago before they ever started making this movie. They’ve fired other people for much less. The selective nature of cancel culture has come back to bite them in the ass, and they have no one to blame but themselves.
There werent hundreds of millions of euros on the line. If they make the wrong move and lose that money then they're financially near a cliff. One more bad investment and it could be game over. Game over not just for the investors but also for all the employees. They're right to not make a quick thoughtless decision.
Recast Ezra. Storyline wise what they could do is, at the end of the movie through some kind of speedster/time travel/multiverse shenanigans, Barry’s actions created a ripple effect and changed his appearance
I think this entire situation also raises an interesting question going forward regarding casting… Since these superhero movies have become such tent-poles for entire studios and can have THIS MUCH of a dramatic effect on the livelihoods of so many people, will studios see a need to take action??? Will they be more strict, even downright invasive, about casting requirements (ex: psych evaluations, mental health requirements)? Once cast, will actors need to be “babysat” for the tenure of their contracts? Not saying any of that WILL or SHOULD happen. But since so much is on the line, I can definitely see studios taking future action to minimize losses like this. This is truly a no-win nightmare.
Since they can’t find Ezra. They should have an ending of the film where Grant Gustin comes out as a way to show that there are multiple flashes BESIDES the both of them and then recast with Lucas Till for the next films ☺️ problem solved
They just gotta take that $200 million loss. There’s no way they put this movie out and look good. The Dceu is done, stick a fork in it. It’s dead. There’s no consistency. Scrap it and start over. I literally don’t even want to see this flash movie anymore. They keep asking us fans to get invested in these films and characters when there isn’t enough consistency across the board. Just do right by my boy Henry cavil. The fact we havnt got a man of steel 2 is an Injustice of its own
You could do re-shoots with Keaton, etc and re-cut the movie to make Ezra only a supporting character in his own movie. As I recall, Flashpoint was just as much about Batman as it was Flash.
Bro Ray is always so unsure of himself and everything he says. Always stumbling on his words and saying "I don't know". You gotta start believing yourself man!
I've been thinking what Kriss Carr was saying that WB/DC should man up and talk about the problem they have and put the movie out take their losses and promise to replace Ezra Miller.
WB can release as is and not even make 100 million because a boycott WILL HAPPEN or reshoot (making it a 350 million dollar movie) and gain a huge hooray from the audience which will make them 850 million minimum. Gaining that public trust will make all the difference. WB should also look into suing Ezra somehow to recoup costs.
Not sure how the story plays out but I think the best option would be to tack on a new ending where something happens and it's a different actor, and it somehow explains why/how he looks different now and just cast a new actor. Cheapest, quickest and gives it to someone else.
@@luckychips2283 Because we, the audience, shouldn’t have to conform to insanity. We have the option to not watch, but we also have the option to voice our opinions, which is the point of the comment section.
@@michaelmorningstar8645, oh I just meant the videos covering this topic. At least with the JCS crew. Don't like the way they cover, find someone else covering it.
I would just go straight to streaming, pay everyone NOT Ezra adequately and call it a day. If they need some plot points for the sake of DC, they need to pay talent in front and behind the scenes. It should no longer about studio profit.
How about WB releasing the film with a public service announcement and announce a certain percentage of the proceeds to charity? IMO, the studio saves face, the movie might make a little more $ than without such announcement, and the others who participated with the making of the film can reap the rewards for a blockbuster type movie. Just a thought.
What about Back to the Future originally it was gonna be Eric Stoltz as Marty McFly he got fired was replaced by Michael J Fox and re-filmed the entire movie why can’t WB do the same?
I am a fan of the Flash and I want to see the movie. I can separate between Ezra Miller (the actor) versus Barry Allen (the character). Tough choices...
Could they just reshoot and change the final scenes, say like, the timeline is eventually fixed but somehow his appearance is altered, or something like that...
In my opinion Hollywood should be done with Ezra Miller!! This guy clearly needs help psychologically and now apparently there is new news that he has kept 3 children in a gun filled farm and those children's lives are endangered. I am scared for them and Ezra Miller should be blacklisted from Hollywood! No one should hire him! until he publicly acknowledges his behavior, apologizes , and redeems himself from his actions. And WB should never represent this culture in the Hollywood industry.
If WB put out statement saying that they will delay the movie due to reshoots in order to remove Ezra Miller , I believe the fans will respect the decision and ultimately show support to the movie and if they really want to gain favor they would announce Grant Gustin as the replacement, people would not only lose their minds they'd welcome the change.
You don't have to show posters with Ezra Miller as The Flash. You can have posters that show the Flash insignia in the background with the other characters from the movie like Batman and Supergirl in front of it. Something like that.
As I said earlier when this was live bringing out the Flash movie anyway is not rewarding Ezra's behavior but it's rewarding the other people who starred in and worked behind the scenes of this movie that should still get their work shown as it was meant to.
That’s actually a great idea. Turn it away from EM behavior and make it a positive. But pick a cause everyone can agree on. DV or hunger etc. WB is being very irresponsible towards those who worked on this movie by not making a definitive statement and action. I’m very suspicious as to the reason. Ofc they would have to pay out any percentages per contract first for those who are entitled.
I'm gonna be honest, I think they could release this movie with no press junkets and just trailers and stuff and they'll still break even at the least. We're all curious to see it it's gonna do fine. Only the due hard cinephiles even know about the ezra situation and if you're all like me then you're all gonna go see it no matter what
The problem with John's assessment is that it does not account for the very real likelihood that many people will look at WB releasing the movie as a way to make money off someone who has committed abhorrent behavior. It will be from the crazy side of the aisle but it will "if you really hated what he did you would not have released this. you obviously think it's appropriate to exploit him for your own pocketbook..." It's nonsense but there will be a lot of people saying that.
Not putting it out is unfair to everyone else who was involved in the film. Ezra being in hiding makes it easy to not have him involved in the marketing of the film. The best way wb can distance themselves from Ezra's flash and in some way make a statement against his behavior is to not put out ezra miller flash merch in connection to this film. hype up supergirl and keaton's batman merch.
It's most similar to Kevin Spacey situation with all the money in the world, but that replacement with christopher plummer was feasible because he was only in the movie for like 15 to 20 minutes, well Ezra is in the entire fucking flash movie so they will basically have to reshoot everything, which is gonna be impossible
I really think for the long term Zaslav needs to protect the DC brand. It has taken a few too many hits in the last decade and they need to stop the bleed. The flash as a character has to be worth more than $200m for the the DC brand, reshoot or shelve it.
If treated with care and passion, the DC brand can carry WB for a long time. Fans are foaming at the mouth for good adaptions of DC characters. The former WB execs butchered the DCEU launch with their poor planning and cold feet after Man of Steel didn't instantly earn a billion dollars. The just didn't not take the time to develop the characters because they never cared about the characters. They just saw them as a means to billion dollar box office hits and rushed them out. Here's to hoping Zaslav understands that the money will come in time if they just put effort into delivering quality films that are true to the comics and characters the massive fan base is there for.
WB could have released the movie as it is 2 months ago and it would have been fine. Now? They have to reshoot Ezra scenes with another actor. No other way possible now.
Obviously idk how this movie ends, but if Flash returns to a new DCEU at the end like Flashpoint, they could re-film the ending with him coming out of the speed force as a new actor. It wouldn't make tons of sense, but at least that's how you work him out of the franchise and partially the movie.
Experts say if they try to reshoot all of his parts with another actor, it could drive up production costs to somewhere between 350 and 400 million dollars. I think they are just going to dump it on HBO Max and just be done with it.
I think they will lose money on this no matter what. Maybe it's better losing money by refilming it. At least they'll be doing the right thing in the people's eyes and they'll avoid bad press
Just put a big warning regarding Ezra Miller and that wb doesnt approve in any way his present behaviour, but not releasing the film would be a punishment for all the people who participated on the making of the movie..
I’m gonna see it anyway coz I don’t care what happens after it but I’m inky seeing it for the flash effects, batfleck, keaton and super girl. They can do what they want after this…I feel really bad for the ones involved like Rob said
Why can't they just have a press conference publically condemning his behaviour, make it clear that they have no intention of working with him EVER in the future but also, explain why it is not fair to the hundreds of other people who helped create the motion picture to just not release it. Release it, condemn Ezra at every press junket/promotional event and put full focus on the other actors involved.
I'm only a fan but I have a gut feeling that reshooting would set a precedent that proves no actor is irreplacible and WB could come out of it looking better by doing that, "It's the principle of the thing" route. Just as an observer Deep Space Nine's "Trials & Tribblations" put new shots into Star Trek original series scenes and holds up pretty well. Is $120 million really the price tag? Zaslav is gutsy, I say reshoot and hire the best writers and editor(s) working. The creatives here on John's show have good ideas, why not the creative professionals involved? I think it can be done cheaper than we think. Save everybody else's careers in a reportedly good movie and cut the crap, so to speak. It wouldn't be the first movie saved through reconstructive surgery. Reshoot and WB looks like a stand up studio and - shoot himself in the foot Ezra ("they" is such confusing language) can finish blasting off the rest of his career toes in private.
@@mikescott2330 Ya but like they were saying you focus on Keatons return and the new Supergirl, cuz those two are way more interesting to a lot of people anyway
