Keep your L5P Duramax Allison 1000 6 speed transmission from running too hot with the WCFab Transmission Cooler Thermostat Bypass Valve. The OEM valve tends to stick on both stock trucks and those built for performance. As a result, the transmission runs hot - even in the red zone - at the track for WCFab's shop truck.
• CNC Machined Billet Aluminum Thermostatic Bypass Plug
• Black Anodized Finish
• High-temperature silicone O-ring seals
• Reduces fluid flow restriction to trans cooler
• Simple Installation
• Experience fluid temperature drops from 15-50 degrees F
• Direct replacement of the failure-prone OEM thermostat
• Easy swap back to OEM set up for cold weather use

It would be cool if there were an add-on that would connect to the ports of that block and would have a 90 degree lever on the side. Position 1 is factory thermostat set up and position 2 is full bypass mode.

It seems to me that unless transmission temperatures exceeds or match coolant temperatures then the bypass is working. And has anyone answered the question of what temperatures the Allison engineers intended for the stock transmission to run?
@Jeff-dc2xl
@Jeff-dc2xl 2 года назад
I live in East Tx and it'll run about 187 degrees unloaded in the winter maybe 176, the highest I've seen is like 192 193. Since I put the bypass plug in the hottest I've seen is like maybe 160 but it take a good little while for the trans temp to heat up past 130-140. We haven't made it to winter yet so I don't kno what it runs like in cooler weather say under 60 degrees outside

Cold weather full flow really isn't that big of a deal. Just think about how many years we've had no thermal bypass valves and many a transmission survived.

Hey JC, thank you for being our customer and for sharing your purchase experience with us. Please accept our sincere apologies regarding the missing hardware. Looks like we received an email from you last week as well and our team has responded there as well requesting confirmation on a few details so that we can get the missing components on the way to you.

I’ve seen where you should put stock part back in during winter (Pennsylvania) is this true?
@WCFab
@WCFab Год назад
You can absolutely run with the bypass in through the winter months, just keep in mind that the transmission will warm up more slowly (just like 2016 and previous trucks would have) and drive the truck accordingly. Because swapping this part out is so simple, our advice is if you live in an area of the country that routinely sees temps approaching or below zero during the winter, make swapping the thermostat assembly back in part of your fall maintenance routine and then swap the bypass back in again come spring.

Is there such thing as to low trans temp? Iv been running this bypass all summer here in California but now the outside temps getting lower im just wondering if the trans temp needs to be a certain temp to operate efficiently. I don't see my temp getting above 125 and at times its almost 100
@WCFab
@WCFab 2 года назад
Those fluid temps that you mentioned aren’t anything that we would be concerned about. If you are not seeing air temps in your region of well below freezing, you should have no issue running with the bypass in year round.

Does that part void warranty
@WCFab
@WCFab 3 года назад
We're don't foresee warranty concerns related to this part since it actually reduces the potential for damage from high fluid temperatures and the installation is easily reversible. That said, our experience is that dealer approach to aftermarket parts and warranty claims varies quite a bit depending upon who you talk to, so we always recommend speaking to your dealership service manager before making any intended modifications to a vehicle that's under warranty.

If full flow is better which makes sense why do they have an OEM thermostat bypass in the first place?
@WCFab
@WCFab 3 года назад
Smitty the thermostat was added with the intention of allowing the truck to use the warmer engine coolant in the radiator to speed the warm up process of the transmission for improved operation from initial start in cold weather climates (first portion of the animated thermostat closed diagram in this video). This actually works, which is why we allow for the original parts to be swapped back easily for customers that live in an area of the country like we do where temps can drop well below freezing in the winter time. The problem comes when you’re working the truck hard in warmer weather and the closed fluid circuit continues to bypass the auxiliary cooler causing the trans fluid to continue to heat soak until it exceeds coolant temperatures and reaches a point where fluid breakdown and internal component damage can occur.

Thanks for your interest in this part and comment regarding shipping costs to your location. Unfortunately shipping rates for various destinations and package sizes are set by the carriers. If you don’t have any other items that you could combine on the order to spread out the shipping costs, you might try reaching out to some of our dealers to see if they can offer you a better rate from their stocking locations.

Right. I laughed when he said "WC was the first to design and use this piece." I had already purchased Linco's well over a month before WC even announced theirs. At least with Linco you can also buy extra o-rings/snap rings.

sure is a shame. If you know, you know. +1 for Linco, and now there's one less manufacturer I have to consider for customers. I'm very new to the manufacturing industry but it seems that it's not about whether you are capable of engineering and developing a product, it's whether you do it first, or better than the last guy.
@WCFab
@WCFab 3 года назад
Hey Guys, to clear up some things here is the low down; We are in fact the first to design and use this part. Just because it was not for sale on our website, or we had a video posted about it before another manufacture, does not mean it wasn't being sold and used by us long before. We have been using this component since early 2019 in our race truck and in conjunction with every Performance Transmission build that we performed here. After while we saw the need for the component and its benefit not only for built transmission applications but also for bone stock applications, especially when we started to realize how many OEM valves were sticking closed as our initial reason for the component was increased flow to the cooler for built transmissions. Which is why we started selling the part solo. So it was in use by us for nearly a year before it was released on the market as a purchase alone item. Hope that clears up some misconceptions in regards to "who was first" as WCFAB does not copy, we have lead the way in product innovation for many years especially in regards to L5P. @HP Motorsports, sorry that you feel that way about not wanting to recommend our product line to your customers, but remember who was the first to do nearly everything high performance related with the L5P platform, and who it is that still has the fastest and highest horsepower L5P. Thanks for watching and please reach out if you have any other questions.

Can I run this in the winter time? I’m in the Midwest where it gets below freezing but I use my truck for snow removal and I noticed last year my trans fluid was almost 200 degrees while working the truck. I’m thinking I could get away with using this all year long as in the summer time I pull a 16 foot enclosed mowing trailer. What are your thoughts?
@WCFab
@WCFab 2 года назад
You can run with the thermostat bypass plug in during the colder months. The truck will behave just like earlier model years which take longer to warm up the transmission in cold weather. Our temps here can drop well below zero Fahrenheit so we opt to swap the thermostat assembly back in for the winter as part of our fall maintenance routine since it's only a few minutes to change everything out.
