No matter how shitty Bret Harts Wcw run was, the Steel Plate Moment is still one of the coolest things of his whole career

I never had a problem with DDP's World title win. I don't care if he was friends with Bischoff. He worked his @$$ off for the prior 6 years to improve himself and earned every bit of it in my opinion.

I pop for the "shoulders back, chest out" every time.

Hard not to overthink when you see Benoit do that kind of stuff.

Seeing Kevin Nash leapfrog was not something I expected to see.

Blitzkrieg retired way too young. While on a tour of Japan with WCW, it all began to change for Jay Ross. After attempting a sky twisting springboard moonsault, his opponent was not positioned properly and Blitzkrieg wound up landing on his head. He would suffer a serious concussion and was out of action indefinitely. While out of action, Ross became interested in medicine and taking care of the injured, rather than being the injured one himself. After only about a year in WCW, Jay Ross made the decision to walk away from a potential lucrative pro wrestling career and start a new chapter in his life. At the age of 30, Ross enrolled in nursing school at the University of Texas at Austin. He would graduate with “flying colors” and began a career as a registered nurse. Jay Ross would raise a child of a family friend and get involved in many social causes.

I don't think there has ever been a rivalry like Booker T vs Scott Steiner. They went through the Tag team, TV, US, and World titles in WCW.

I can't get over how brilliant the Bret Hart metal plate thing was.

I still miss WCW. It's an understatement to say WCW wasn't without its flaws and I always knew WWF was bigger if not better (and sometimes bigger and better) but there was something magical about WCW. I wish the run could have lasted longer but I'm thankful WCW was around as long as it was, and I'm reminded of that with every classic review Brian does

Say what you want about WCW towards the end, this was actually a good show! One of the last good shows they had between 1999 and the end of the company in 2001.

Raven stole Sandman's family, Hak stole Raven's family... damn, never thought of it coming full circle like that.

To be fair, the Hollywood Blondes theme rules. If WCW offered that song to me, I'd readily accept it.

Watching Wrestling Bios Reliving the War series, made me realise how over DDP was. I wish he won the title earlier, somewhere in 98 when it was still 50/50 between WCW and WWF.

this was the first PPV my mom let me order - had to save money up mowing the lawn, etc. Great undercard. The go-home show sold me on it - Oooooooh yeaaaaaaahhhh!

Disco and Konan both wrestling in cammo cargo pants is the most 1999 thing ever.

Who in the world did BamBam never get over enough to justify a world title run in WWF or WCW? Dude was fantastic.

5:38 Scotty Riggs is more of a derivative of "Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndorff's WCW gimmick (where Paul would look at himself with a miniature mirror to feel good about his looks). Obviously, the hip-swivel taunt is taking from "Ravishing" Rick Rude. Speaking of Rude... On a sad note, Spring Stampede 1999 took place a week and two days before Rick Rude passed away. RIP to Paul Orndorff and Richard Rood.

Man...Blitzkrieg is SO god damn underrated! That was my guy back in the day, dude was so athletic and imo was one of the best cruiserweights in WCW, and now he's basically forgotten, always gonna be a fan of that dude!

DDP winning was fine in theory, as a big fan myself, it was hugely validating to see him finally get that win, but it just came too late. His popularity had wained from its 1998 peak. Notice that Brian didn't even mention what DDP was doing in the lead to this match either. The Death of WCW also made a good point about this. By 1999, WCW was gaining a reputation as an old man's company, so going from the young, popular Goldberg to the old and tired Hogan to the 50 year old Flair, then to the 45 year old Page, who looked older, just seemed to reenforce that stigma.

I have a DVD called ‘The 50 Greatest Finishers in WWE History’, which included matches involving wrestlers in the list, and the main event of this PPV was one of them 😂

My girlfriend and I were at this show. Whatever you think of the story lines/matches, the energy of the crowd when Goldberg hit the ramp... I thought the roof was coming off the T-Dome. Everyone was screaming his name. It was utter mayhem. I couldn't really hear anything after his entrance, and my ears rang for at least a week afterward.

I mean it’s ok to say that Disco needs to get beat up all the time, he was always presented as a weak wrestler and a soft dude in and out of the ring (barring that terrible TNA main event run) so him dominating Konnan doesn’t make sense

As a fan of the Classic PPV Review segment, it feels like I've waited forever for this one. Glad to have it back and looking forward to the Hogan run that is to come!

That Tenay slip up was too funny. Ive always felt like he was very underrated. Dude was so knowledgeable and as a child I learned the names of so many moves from the matches he called.

Really solid show with the Juvi-Blitzkreig, Rey-Kidman, Raven/Saturn-Horsemen, and the Sandman-Bam Bam matches. Also, a surprisingly decent Goldberg-Nash rematch and a main event that actually delivered for WCW standards. A shame that DDP’s reign was totally ruined by the heel turn. He should have went over Nash at Slamboree and held it for at least a couple of months

I remember renting this show countless times at Hollywood video what a good show. Ddps world title win was long overdue in my opinion it should've happened at Halloween havoc 1998 which was the best time to end the streak and pull the trigger

Great review. I got to be at this show and as a DDP fan, it was a huge thrill to get to see him finally win the big one. "Shoulders back, Chest out" 4 Life. And it def felt like their last great show.

WCW finally puts the world championship on the DDP who was a beloved baby face, and WCW turns DDP heal automatically after this show because why not.

Every time I watch one of these 90s wcw shows, it feels different than anything we get now..there's something special about the time when these promotions were going head to head, giving us some the biggest moments in pro wrestling history! A time capsule of sorts

You jogged my memory, thanks. For ages I recalled there being a WCW show that had water around the arena and/or ring. So it was the Nitro shortly before this Spring Stampede.

That Disco Inferno parody was the funniest thing WCW ever did. I was a WCW guy still at the time and we all HATED that Konnan video on the forums.

WCWs last great PPV? Maybe. I would say WCW Greed is still pretty damn good, not as good as this but they were finding their footing again just before their death.

I always enjoyed Rey and Kidman, they were my favorite pair of wrestlers back in WCW. I especially always enjoyed the respectful matches they had against each other even though they were friends.

Drove up to Tacoma from Portland with 3 buddies when we were 17 to go to this show. Remember staying in a VERY speedy motel room across the street from the dome.

These are my favourite reviews of old PPVs

I was at this PPV. Loved the show. Except the weird Scotty Riggs match. I think this might be Blitzkrieg's only PPV singles match? I remember the story about him being that everyone assumed he was a young rookie, but he was much older than anyone realized. He was legitimately shy about being seen maskless in the locker room because he was obviously a dude in his 40s.

That world championship match is what I knew WCW as when I was a kid. I was in that age group that only knew Hogan and Savage as WCW guys and didn't know Flair even had a Fed run until I was way older.

This was the PPV I missed and was mad about it. Huge DDP fan and I remember watching the go home show. Was only 9 years old so of course had school. Great review of the ppv

This was a great show indeed. The hardcore match, the tag match with Raven and Saturn, and the main event really stood out.

Very much a show where you see a lot of the reliably enjoyable stuff that got WCW wins in the Monday Night Wars paired with omens of the things to come that would sink them.

You probably made us aware the last time you did a classic PPV review about a month ago that you would cover this PPV but I completely forgot you did because I did coincidentally watch this PPV recently because I felt in the mood for a good WCW PPV during the years I was no longer watching WCW. A lot of what you said is my similar mindset to it. Your reaction to Mikey Whipwreck Vs Scotty Riggs was more positive then mine because and it may be because it was a match with no heat behind it but for a 7 minute long match it felt like it dragged for me as if it was longer then that. Hak Vs Bigelow was good although you could easily notice obvious spot moments like Hak climbing the ladder to do something that simply ends with him front flipping to the table on the outside when Bigelow pulled the ladder down. Saturn & Raven Vs Benoit & Malenko was definitely the best match of the PPV to me too. And the main event was good too and honestly felt like it became a better match once Hogan was taken out of the match and we had a triple threat match.

Going to nerd out a bit right now, forgive me. At 11:05, Raven is wearing a Wolverine shirt from the Annual issue of Wolverine from 1997. You have no idea how much I nerded out noticing that when I was eight years old back in the day.

About the dudes yelling “powerbomb”. Me and my brother have a running gag when we wrestle and every time he tries to powerbomb me we both yell “powerbomb!” So my theory is sometime in the future we discover a time machine and use it to go back and watch classic wrestling shows

Since Starrcade 1994 is your next PPV review, Zane, you should mention the only champions who didn't compete on that card were the then-Tag-Team Champions Marcus Bagwell and The Patriot a.k.a. Stars and Stripes.

Having just seen this recently, I mostly agree. For me though, that Hardcore Match is too botched throughout. You didn’t show Hak’s weird, failed Suplex attempt, for one. Knowing about CTE makes their grisly chair shots hard to watch too.

I got this from Hollywood on vhs as a kid and still have it. Favorite cover art and love what you did for thumbnail . I only care about the hard-core match and the main event. I'm sting fan but happy for ddp finding out story behind it all those years later . Hogan getting hurt was confusing when I asked dpp about it he said "he wanted me to do that " . Dont know what that means anyway great childhood memory miss old wrestling not the crap on tv today

this was one of the few, officially licensed wcw tapes i had, and i watched repeatedly lol. most of the rest of my tapes were home recorded so this one sticks out to me 😂😂😂
