WD40 RC TIRE TRACTION COMPOUND TEST DOES IT WORK?

Here is a climb test without WD40 on the tires and then with WD40 put on the tires. WD40 will not work on all types of tires I think the silica based rubber type RC tires don't benefit from treatment with WD40.😊👍Thanks for watching please sub and like and smash the reminder bell!

FWIW, WD40 is a "water displacement" formula, not a lubricant. So while it posses SOME lubrication properties it is primarily for pushing water out of small areas. And it has a habit of soaking into rubber and some plastic compounds as it somewhat breaks the bonds and soaks into it like the material is a sponge. Which also causes the material to swell to some degree.

Peppermint Oil Pain Reliever Spray works even better. Give it a try because you will be amazed how much better it work & smells too, over using WD-40. WD-40 will break down the rubber slowly, so I do not recommend using it on any type of pin tread tires for crawling or the pins will come off under heavy loads crawling from my personal experiences using WD-40 on them.

Most people do not know what Water Displacement-40 really is because it actually is not a lubricant at all. The 40 stands for how many times it took to get the formula correct.

Ah yes, good ole WD-40. I add a little to my coffee in the morning, and it always keeps me on the up & up! Seriously though, this is quite the enigma when you consider that there is a light lubricant component to this stuff. You would think it would be like hitting an oil slick, lol. So, I have a theory that what is happening is "The tire is being cleaned". A "sticky rubber" is one that is squeaky clean, and especially free from oil... I wonder if we can do an A/B comparison with just grease cutting dish soap and a bush cleaning...

I remember playing basketball on a wooden court... If you didn't constantly clean the floor, and the bottom of your shoes, it would be nothing but slip... So, I wonder if the NBA has heard of WD-40, or done friction testing on their floors vs shoes... Or clean with soap the left shoe and WD-40 swab the right shoe, and see what happens...

for soft silicone tires... CHEAT! give them a quick thin paint job with Elmer's rubber cement from the stationary section of Kmart/Walmart etc. it wont last all that long for grabbing dust+dirt, and wearing away, but on a clean floor or carpet racing it was sure good on old foam tires.
@jackkramer1553
@jackkramer1553 4 года назад
WD40 isn't actually a lubricant, it's a solvent and dissolves lubricants. It lubes initially, but when rubbed in removed dirt/grime. Chances are the reason this worked is because the brush removed loose dirt from the tires and the WD40 removed any residual grime that caused the wheels to slip. Hint: if your door hinges squeak, clean them with WD40 but then wipe it off and apply grease.

how long does this last if unused?is it something i would need to do a day or 2 before i would use them or could i apply this weeks/months before they are used and still be good? i build and fight 150g combat robots and every last little of grip i could squeeze out of my tyres would hopefully give me the edge in fights. most people use the same/simmilar wheels and tyres at this weight class so mine having x amount more grip should make mine better than theirs in the grip department and thus the better bot on the day.
@ShenRC
@ShenRC 5 лет назад
Hi you can do the tires and let it dry in for a couple hours or less and if they are still wet use a towel and blot them off to dry them... I apply it on my tires most of the time like a half hour or so before I run my trucks it don't matter if they are not fully dry for how I run my trucks... but for you maybe a few hours to or so maybe the night before you are going to run them. it depends on the type of rubber you got to test it.

Na the WD40 softens the rubber and makes it much more grippy you can feel the difference when you feel the tires with your hand it's a huge difference they get way more grippy.
@Palex1982
@Palex1982 6 лет назад
I'm not totally buying this. Remember how sticky those tires are when they are brand spanking new? Yeah, pretty sticky. So with that little amount of WD40, I think you just mostly cleaned the tires. I have hard time believing the WD40 treatment actually adds much to the stickiness of the actual tire compound. Just to be a little bit more scientific, run the test again using different methods of cleaning the tires, like wash them with soap, rub em clean with your hands or just use dry brush to clean them etc, just to see if there's any difference. Also, test how long this alleged WD40 effect last on the tires, like after you drive a couple laps around your house. I'm not saying there's absolutely nothing to this, but I need more proof. Make me a believer! LOL ;D
@ShenRC
@ShenRC 6 лет назад
Hi it works ...these tires where brand new the ramp is slick my new trx4 sport out of the box could not even grip it and climb to high of a angle.the WD40 works like a RC tire traction spray kind of ... it lasts I just checked this morning and they still are grippy! I been doing this for ever in the hobby and used many tire sprays for rc tires and WD40 is gentle not aggressive like those sprays but does work on most rubber tires but some that I believe are silica based rubber it wont do much to... If you have these tires then spray a brush wet the tires and let it dry in and you will crap your paints when you see how much better they start grabbing!

@@Palex1982 Bro this even works on my basketball shoes… I have a dusty kitchen… I was sliding all over the place. I tried little basketball shoe grip sprays … lasted all of 2 minutes of that…I then layered those sprays with the WD-40 and the better grip is lasting way longer!even the next day… so it could be the combination of the basketball product and the WD-40 but even if so the WD-40 takes a bulk of the credit if not all!…spraying the WD-40 on one set of shoes makes them grip really well… my other pair of doesn’t have much of an effect on after a few minutes… I’ve cleaned them with detergent and everything still no grip… I’m guessing those pair of shoes are made of a different compound of rubber and they aren’t giving me much of a difference… but bro I can attest to the WD-40 helping the grip…
@Muzicboy3
@Muzicboy3 Год назад
@@ShenRC Hey, so I’m experimenting with my hoop shoes. I have layered a few basketball sprays with the WD-40 but those sprays alone gave good grip for like a minute or 2 so i know the WD/40 is what’s working really well… I have to wipe my shoes, which is normal for basketball players because of dust buildup but when I do it’s right back to super grippy again… and this is on my dusty kitchen floor. I haven’t swept my floor in a while and I do this because sometimes my gym that I play at can be pretty dusty. So I’m trying to test on dusty surface. But it’s still grippy really well, So I imagine a clean court would require less wiping if even at all.. Do want to know if you have any suggestions to increase the grip more? So when I spray my shoe I immediately rub the wd-40 into the outsole….do you think if I let it sit for a while 5, 10, 15 min, 1 hour, several hours, full day that it would be even more grippy? Or if I layer the wd-40 ever so often? Perhaps for a few days every 24 hours? Just wanting to know if theres Anything you know that could give it ever more better grippy results? My latest experiment is I clean my shoe off with dish detergent, then sprayed my 2 different basketball shoe grip products on. Let it air dry. Then I put 1 layer of WD-40 on at 1:45 am put the second one on at 6:00 am.. then came home at 3pm and put some fabric softener on my shoes. I don’t know how the fabric softener will do but I applied it because of its anti-static properties so I’m thinking it may help repel dust. So it may add to the performance. Just trying new things. If you got any ideas 💡 based of your experience that may possibly translate let me know.
