Yes!! I've always hated this. It's so gross and damaging.

He thinks his weight was the reason he wasn’t liked. I think he wasn’t liked because he was creepy and said terrible things. There were lots of larger kids in my high school and they had friends like everyone else. Some were really popular. Shane just doesn’t like them, and despised himself for being one. Shane only values thin white people. He’s so much like JS, his true soulmate.

My theory: he really is that creepy, and doesn't understand basic anything. So when those videos were getting views, he kept doing it. Then he realized that other people besides his audience could find that, so he pretended to be all nice (and tried to even convince himself the same). And that didn't work, so here we are.

coming from someone who was a fan of his at the very beginning (I was in the 9th grade, 2009) I honestly cant tell either. He was kind of "young" when first starting out, I believe still a teenager, so I'm really curious as to how his persona, and/or personality developed. Is this actually how he used to be before RU-vid? Or was it one of those situations where he received some form of reinforcement after displaying this behaviour? I remember loving Shanaynay and other similar characters and skits. It was stupid kid humor, early RU-vid. Kids like me grew his channel, reinforcing the idea that this sort of "shock" humor has an audience & is admired. I stopped watching by the end of high school, so there's a large gap in my memory about Shane between his early videos, and when I started watching again, though (which was between the end of the conspiracy theory videos and the beginning of the documentaries). Something like that can definitely change someone's personality, behaviour, even morals, especially being during a person's developmental years. He was a part of of the first wave of internet celebs behind myspace musicians, and amongst the very first group of youtubers. I'm always interested in how fame affects a child/teen/young adult's psychological development is affected by fame, so this isn't coming from a place of sympathy/am making excuses.

So it’s been a three pronged attack of sorts. (1) anytime a cashier, sales associate, or customer service rep provides exemplary service, I’ve asked for their name and later that day I wrote to their manager to express how they provided top tier service. Too often we only call customer service or talk to a manager with selfish intentions, me, me, me. (2) anyone aesthetically pleasing to me has gotten a compliment, from “you look really pretty today”, to “love the drip, mate!”, from “you’re really handsome”, to “you should wear that colour more often, absolutely gorgeous!” But the key is that I walk up to them, confidently, say my one line with eye contact and a warm smile and as soon as I say it, I follow it up with “take care” and walk away before it’s even registered. That way the feel it’s sincere ‘cause I didn’t wait around for a reaction, I wasn’t hitting on them, and since I’m already gone, I mustn’t have had an ulterior motive. (3) Since I lost my job in July 2020 and refuse to collect unemployment ‘cause I feel social services should be for those who really need it, and since hiring at my level isn’t happening yet (I’m sick of hearing “you’re overqualified”) I watch a ton of RU-vid channels. I see a LOT of crap channels with content creators (“CC”) doing the bare minimum and just for the money…think Bryce Bawl, Pixie TheMealYo, and Noah NoNeck. But I also see CCs like James Marriott, Kurtis Conner, Danny Gooden, Callum Markie, D’Angelo Wallace, Jarvis Johnson, Nick DaRamio, Ciarán Carlin, Jun and Rachel, Alteori… all of whom put so much effort into their content…so I try to post 2-3 comments on each video and put as much thought into my comments as they put into their videos so that people will engage and that helps them with the RU-vid algorithm. And for CCs that I just happened upon and like their content, I post something like my original comment and follow through and watch their old videos and since I have RU-vid Premium, they get their ad money as though I watched all their ads…and finally, I ALWAYS click the Like, but this one is also for me. It’s my way of keeping track of their videos that I’ve already watched. When u get old, your memory warehouse is pretty packed. 😜 Anyway, sorry for the novel.
