Hard to shift 2-3 would mean get it in the air and adjust that shift mechanism, because that's when the shifter jams and you ain't goin' nowhere.

@@edgarcook9607 No I really sat back too far from the steering. Back then we thought you should be straight armed. If I was closer I would be able to make that long throw. I had the same problem with the early 930 Turbo, a four speed with a long throw from 2nd to 3rd.

I'd agree about the trans ratios. Wide ratio Muncie for originality but fro street driving a 2.64 Super T10 would be nice, too.

I was gonna say, the eliminated any deficiencies in driver very well. lol

I once hit 2nd gear with a Hurst Supershifter and broke the attaching hole bosses off a Muncie tranny. No doubt the bolts must have been a bit loose or that couldn't have happened. Regardless, no pussying around shifting for this guy. Back in those years of few aftermarket clutch parts, the hot setup was to run a Mopar 3 finger (I think 10 3/4 inch pressure plate instead of the GM diaphragm unit. On another note, if a person wanted his Vette to handle better, dual action shocks on the front were a huge improvement. At the time Koni was the hot setup, but when in the military back then and earning $288/mo. one did not go out and spend $75 on a set of 2 shocks. Fortunately I somehow learned that the front shocks on Ford Fairlanes were the same length and had the same mounting system. AND the 427 Fairlane came with factory dual action shocks from Ford and you could buy a replacement set at your local parts house for around $15.

I remember when regular gas was .28 cents, Premium was .32 cents per gallon. Unleaded gas didn't exist. Regular had 96 octane, Premium was 101. Sunoco stations had 104. Some Union gas stations had 112 octane.

Big block don’t nessasarily mean nothing 327/350 will blow the doors off of a lot of big block cars becaose they are lighter wind tighter and faster. Seen a many of smallblock destroy big blocks

Wouldn't that 66 have been a small journal? What are the odds that the engine got a large journal when the CE was installed? Seems as though the CE program would just be installing the most available engines at the time of installation. So if the exchange was done after 1968 it could be a large journal?

Thats something we need to check after we put the new intake on, I don't think it's far off, we all have a pretty good ear for timing, but it could be the issue!

@@danmyers9372 In 1970 the only 351W available was a 2 barrel 250 HP gross 9:1 CR low performance engine. For 1970 Ford switched to the 351C as the performance small block (or more correct 335 engine family). I am a Ford guy but realistically unless there were a good amount of high performance mods done to the engine your Mach 1 wasn't within a couple of tenths of the 327 car.

Back when these cars were new, the manual was king, mainly because it had 4 gears and the autos only had 2 or 3, the autos of the time didn't hold up to the power and torque these monsters were making with just slight modifications.

New? Yes. Old? No.

Look it up if you want proof. Ken Miles enjoyed taunting the Stingrays with his GT 350R Mustang, then just slammed the door on them in the 1965, '66 and '67 Championships! 🤠 🏆 🏁

high compression engines require a rear brace on the starter to block to control "torque twist" same with gm 6.5 diesels which will snap the one bolt otherwise....

For sure newer cars are much faster and better to drive. But shhhhhhh! Saying that really hurts some of these guys feelings!

The solid lifter 365/375 cars could run low 13's high 12's

My 62 fi with rear gear change and cheaters ran 12.50 at 105. 327/360 up.. Stock tires, 370 gear, 14.20 @100 in 3rd
