@@Ender06 There's not much you can do for that. Especially if someone's never shot before and their only exposure to guns is from movies/video games. You need an instructor that is gonna be on their ass to constantly remind them, "finger off the trigger", and even then, it takes time to just make that second nature. If someone thinks that is bad, try shooting a contender (single shot pistol with many different barrels you can buy in different calibers) in either 30-30 or 45-70, both are rifle cartridges, and the contender is a single shot break open handgun with a 14 inch barrel. It probably weighs only slightly more than a full sized semi-auto but it can shoot full on rifle rounds. It's a fun gun to shoot though, i need to get to the range to shoot mine again sometime

@@atlasjef2669 I am sure they did, and probably gave them examples, but nerves and excitement as well as never holding a gun before probably factored into them shouldering them incorrectly. My father taught me how to shoot a gun and it took me a few days out at a range to get it just right in the shoulder.

Unironically, that's the way my paternal uncles do to relax. Long distance shooting at targets more than 500 meters. Controlling your breathing and your heartrate for that accurate shot is very much a meditative activity from my experience.

The recoil makes the gun flip and twirl around your trigger finger, like a very confused Ocelot, literally pointing a gun at yourself. Even worse is if they accidentally bump fire it again in the millisecond confusion, since their finger is still on the trigger. Example: Go google "How not to shoot a revolver; guy bump fires and almost taps his head with the second shot" That's why people say "Only load 1 bullet at first"

Honestly, that instructor isn't so good if he didn't correct them on it while there. I was 11 the first time I fired a shotgun, and the range instructors instructed everyone how to properly shoulder them.

In New Zealand it’s common to shoot air rifles (at school camp in primary school or at carnivals) but an actual proper gun is pretty rare. I’ve never even seen a proper gun in real life. Our police don’t carry guns. I knew some boys in high school who had guns and went hunting but most kids had never even seen one.

I've lived in the US my whole life (Texas in particular) and have never shot a gun. I'd like to though and my dad has said he's willing to take me to the range
