A buddy of mine is a mechanic who works on school busses and city buses. One thing to watch out for is the “sensitive edge” on the doors. If that sensitive edge is activated that will engage the interlock and not let the bus drive if stopped. Hopefully that bus is old enough that it doesn’t have all the new fancy safety features that the newer buses have.

So I'm watching the drive home. And we're all going along. And I find myself thinking "What are they gonna do with this thing." And next thing Kent says is "What are we gonna do with this thing." Verbatim!! I'm hooked. Thanks for having me along, guys.

Nice find on the lathe Jack. I took wood shop in school, my second project was making my Mom a candy bowl on the lathe. She still uses the Cutting Board and Candy Bowl I made her when I was 11yrs old. They are fun. The bus..... I'd say IF you actualy go camping often a conversion would be cool. If not, better to clean up and turn over for profit and us on current projects. Either way, do have fun at it. Keep us in the loop on your lathe Jack. Stay safe and have a fun Summer. We'll be here.

All I know is in the state of Missouri you have to remove the school name, the SCHOOL BUS at the front of the bus, the stop signs and the swing arm on the front bumper. TURN IT INTO AN RV lololololololol❤❤❤❤❤❤

First thing you need to do is paint over the School District/School stuff on the sides and rear. And of course register it, so I doesn't have GVT plates. At least where I am. That size bus would be a perfect camper mod size for two-three people. That Cat engine will likely survive 500,000 miles before a rebuild. 100k, it's just barely broke in well. Love to see what you do with it.

I made a wrecker out of a school bus when I was younger. It worked great.

Put amber lights the front makes it legal. That would make a nice camper however you would be putting a lot of money into it. I would put it on the market and sell it for three times of what you paid for it.

You can go camping in it, our you can make tiny home out of it for someone , you also can make auto workshop out of it.

That bus (when technical in good order) would easy make 20K over here in Europe. Very populair to make a camper. But than again after transport and import duties there wouldn't be much profit on 20K (or non 😉) BTW... That's the adventures way how kids should grow up! Thumbs up from Portugal.

The lock is there on the back door so it can be locked when it’s not running. That way if you have valuables you can lock them in. But if the bus is on. The back door has to be unlocked.

If you decide to keep it and use it yourself, you should call your insurance agent first and get a quote. I heard that old school buses are difficult to insure for private use.

I've always want an old bus to turn into a mobile home. I'd like to do it with a double decker bus, but they are rare.

Just to the left of the door should be printed the number of students it holds. If your driving it home either you registered it as an RV or you have a class "B" with a "z" endorsement.The cat motors are reliable, but expensive to repair. I have a class A. My first bus was a '56 Mack. Lol

Before you remove any school features, your could contact private schools, Day Care centers, and church schools to try to re-sell it as-is, with all the school bus features. You also might be able to sell it to a church for their youth group or VBS trips.

I never thought about buying a bus, but now I feel like I need one. Dang it, guys…

A friend picked one up not long ago just for the diesel engine to use in a construction type truck. Not sure about other places but here to haul school children the public school buses need to be 13 years old or less. They usually have low miles for diesels seeing most times they only make 2 circle trips a day unless they are used as field trip bus or the football team bus to get to other schools every other Friday night. They are usually not abused either that is why we like using them for parts. I ended up selling my last one to a church that talked me out of it for a nice profit. Only thing I thought we had to remove was the school name but I could be wrong seeing most times we just cut them up. Years ago I did leave the fire department use one to practice/train with cutting it up with the jaws after I removed what I needed, they really appreciated that. We tipped it on the side for them to represent an accident where the bus flipped. Not sure if you realize that the rub rails(the 3 black side lines) are not just for extra crash strength but they represent where the floor actually starts (bottom black line), the middle black line represent the seat bottom and top black line should equal where the top of the seats are. all for extra visual aid just in case there is an emergency.

We had the same idea turn it into a rv. As soon as i saw you got the bus and not the rv at the auction, thats immediately where my mind went.

1125$ don't matter too much. Anything over a crank,crank,hit crank crank,hit. Is a plus. Imagine if you needed to by just a running motor to put in something. Turbo diesel. Yeah. Expensive. So you did good 👍🏻. Take move that back bulk head forward far enough to put vehicle,sxs ,few 4wheelers. Leave the sides maybe. Idk. But make good vacation camper. Have ur little runaround vehicle in the back with ya. Still tow that boat. Yeah good times right there.
