We have 100 vandalized speed limit signs signed by Arne's team and Ed's team available in our store with the profits supporting Cannonball Memorial Run and the Brock Yates Tribute Fund. Pick yours up today!
I just ordered one. I have loved the cannonball run movies since I was a kid, and have been following all the vinwiki videos and stories, so I'm honored to have a symbolic piece of history!!
I know it has to hurt Ed to see the record go but to watch him give advice and cheerlead while someone else makes the run speaks volumes to his character. Much respect Ed. Congrats Doug and Arne!
From what I've heard Ed say about it over the last couple of years, my understanding was that he was actually HOPING that someone would break it and that it was indeed possible based on some of the things that didn't go right when he did it.
Bailey Walton appears to be his name...his comment is in here claiming that he wont do 130mph until he's spotting. :) he has 648 likes for his comment as of right now.
Absolute LEGENDS! Brock, Ed, Arne, Doug, Berkeley, and the rest of the legends are first of all bonkers, but should have the respect of the automotive world for not only pulling off such a feat, but for doing it safely. Considering what it takes to pull this of, it's mind blowing to think there haven't been any accidents, but it speaks to the care, planning & driving abilities of these guys. It'll be interesting to see what happens from here. How long til Elon builds a tunnel from Red Ball Garage to Portofino Hotel? :P P.S. I just snagged the last sign, whew!
siler7 Safe, relatively speaking. There’s a difference between: going 100MPH like an idiot or making sure that no one else gets hurt before going 100MPH like an idiot
It's super fitting that the video breaking detailed news of a history-making new cannonball record is also one of the most enjoyable VINwiki films you've ever published. Congratulations on a near perfect run, and on some damn fine storytelling - all the core ingredients that have made this channel great are here in absolute spades. Well done.
I love how a E63 is the perfect car for this. Its fast enough, and its a wolf in sheep's clothing. And providing its stock, it doesn't make "that much" noise
What a classy video, all the “Brotherhood of lunatics” handing over the crown. Very cool and very special. I’m kinda surprised to see it so soon, I had assumed it would be months till the official notification but I’m happy to see it for sure !!
Just goes to show a bunch of like minded lunatics who embrace another. Just the way car guys n gals should be. Next record should be tried by that nasa chic that wore a diaper to drive lomg periods.
That camo was spot on. When they showed the photo of the rear end I looked at it and passed it off for an Accord coupe just like he said until I realized that the other car was an ACTUAL Accord LOL
I think that would be too hard to pull off realistically, but dedicated pit stops with crews, NASCAR-style quick fuel cans, etc and away from gas stations for a quicker off-on turn with less traffic is the next logical step. Doing this without a spotter plane was crazy.
Simon Gratkowski illegal, they can talk about doing it but if you have a video of passing a street sign when doing 15 over. That’s why you see all the Mexico videos.
@@bbdl7042 what about then editing out all the signage? i'd watch that... not sure if some freeway cams have 24hr loops that can me rewound, but would have been neat to have pulled some of that footage. the escorts must have recorded too. hopefully more footage will surface. A nice 20-60 minute vid with highlights would be cool.
Hey Ed, just wanted to say that your channel is amazing. I think an unintended consequence of this repository for automotive insanity you’ve created is that it’s bringing the car community together through these stories. It’s the type of things we used to hear from our parents/mentors in the car community, and creating a platform to share those stories enriches and deepens the automotive culture that we all share. I just wanted to say thank you, as much of a kiss up as this is.
This is a massive feat that should be commended for the amount of work it took; not only to achieve, but to keep drivers as well as the motoring public risk to a minimum. Well done men, this is what America is all about.
@@adamstanton1025 Nope. The E63 has worse gas mileage, is just as loud and handling wouldn't be an issue on the freeway. The E63 was picked because of the hydraulic suspension which can adjust itself to carry 800lbs of fuel.
You almost need a couple wraps on a car that can be removed at fuel stops. Change the whole color once you get hot. A bunch of years ago I have seen videos a guy that did this on a sport bike with painters tape. He peeled it off and the heat was off.
@Joseph Mercel yeah in France you're good as long as you're not filming the road and the speed meter But it's definitely possible to get arrested because of a video
Congrats to Arne and Doug! You guys, along with the entire VINwiki storytelling crew all inspire me to never stop being a car enthusiast. You guys rock!
So glad it was Doug... I had a feeling when Ed announced it originally that he'd have something to do with the new record :) What an amazing video, so classy and well put together. Worth every second.
One time probably over 15 years ago I ran across some cars going through Utah and the six of us average speed 110 miles an hour throughout the state. Switched leaders every few miles. None of us knew each other just random fast cars and good drivers. 😎😎😎
It's called TCAS. Traffic Collision Avoidance System. At least I hope they were using TCAS and not ADS-B (Automated Dependent Surveillance Broadcast) At this point, ADS-B is voluntary and I promise LEOs are not opting in until they have to because cannonballers are the very least dangerous people you don't want knowing about your surveillance.
@Perry Elyod Yea its extremely frustrating, I've been in the car with people multiple times doing it and they get pissed off because of someone on their ass.
R63 AMG with a massive fuel cell would allow to get down to prob 3 fill ups (for the sake of stretching/pooping) as well as even less conspicuous since its a freaking minivan....w/ 500 hp
Absolutely insane!!! Congrats. Never thought that Ed’s record would be bested by such a margin. Clearly Mercedes AMG’s is the way to go. Cant beat that three pointed star.
As soon as I saw popular mechanics had an article with the details and Doug's name was in it I came right here, knew there had to be a video out. Congratulations!
And to Ed, you many not have the record anymore, but you do still have VinWiki. Thanks for creating a platform which the forum for these epic stories are shared!
