I hope this won’t be the case, but I predict that the run-in will turn into a massive horse loo. Horses usually seek out the softest spot to pee because they don’t like their pee spraying against their legs. Now, you might not have had that problem with your old run-in/arena, because as you said yourself the ground was firm (and then they are also in a field with high, that is, soft grass). But in the new barn things are the other way around: Short grass (= firm ground) and then all that deep, soft dirt in the run-in…In the summer, when the ground is hard, my ponies always pee in the sandy area that connects their run-in and the pasture and during periods of draught it’s a problem because it doesn’t really get washed away and starts stinking (so we have to hose it away regularly). Maybe your horses are different, but I thought I’d point that out.
@DayByDayVlogs
@DayByDayVlogs Год назад
Its the same in our arena! They always use the arena for a bathroom. We clean it up 2 times a day and it never smells. I think its because we have great airflow? I'm not sure actually. Our hose is right outside thst door so it might be ok!
@Kaatastrophe
@Kaatastrophe Год назад
It might be the case, but not always. We have a run-in with concrete connected to a dirt/sand paddock. Mostly of the time ours pee in the concrete stall.. they do not care at all here lol

Looks great - I recommend some gateway mats / mud control matting for the gate entrances and entrance to the run in just to help with mud in the winter! As it looks like it gets quite muddy there (the lack of grass). Storm is looking really well too 🤍

What you can do to get the hay out is a big broom (those long ones that stores use) and sweep it all up, then put shavings or more dirt on the ground! Then water the new dirt down so it’s less dusty!

The weird thing about this dirt is thst water just runs off it. It doesn't absorb at all!

I hope nobody fell off or got hurt can’t wait to see the extra Video but if u have a think like a year ago it was whole different story like u didn’t have storm home, u wouldn’t have had honey and honestly what I am trying to get at is that you have many memories from the past and you have a production of the future, make lots of memories in this new farm and as u said in the vid “ idk what happens, just bring the horses and see what happens and if it is not safe we will stay up all night until it is safe for the horses”. That is a great trait to have like u won’t let anyone or anything get hurt. Btw u did such a great job on the chicken coop, if that was me those staples would be crooked, half in and half out 😅. Have fun with making the new stable’s and stuff in the barn. Hope the trail ride went well.

Penny will pick at the dirty hay, and then leave it after its been tested. She's a smart, instinct driven mare, she wont eat anything that would be harmful to her digestion. We just moved our horses to a new barn, and they did same. Be prepared for whomever you move together to be tightly bonded, they will rely on eachother for comfort and security during the first few weeks after the move.

I hope you got a thorough vet check on Finn. I would put my money into a good vet visit rather than a chiropractor who are not allowed do diagnose, and a massage therapist. Why won’t you do that for Finn? And Sophie is overweight unfortunately, which is a huge health problem. I say these things not to shame, but because I’m an MD who has treated and cared for obese patients for decades and watching too many die early. You buy the food, so it’s your responsibility.

They don't fat shame peoppe or discuss kids weight in a social forum.
