Join us as we collect our new Land Rover Defender 90 Model X D300 from the dealers. We take a look around and discuss how and why we have purchased such a beast !
I wonder if there is anyone on Earth who loves Landrover more than Simon does. Can you imagine only allowing him to drive some other vehicle -- heart attack material . I just love his enthusiasm - GO SIMON GO ! ! ! ! !
Don't know why some people including me have invincible love for land rovers Despite their bad reputation in market for reliability Although I don't own one but one of my friends has a 2021 defender 110 He's happy with it and never faced any major problem except once when he himself crashed it n damaged the front section
I bet the staff in the dealership was looking out the window when you took the engine cover off and said "here we go Simon will be getting out his orange pen in a minute" 🤣. Awesome car guys 👍
If only you guys knew how true this is..... when the stig was in the dealers last year ( wade sensors failed ) the dashcam recorded some stuff ( they connected the battery charger and this started it recording ) you would not believe what the tech's did ! one thing they did was take the p155 out of the orange pen ! I chose not to show the video as although entertaining it was only going to cause trouble !
@@L663 to be honest it's a good idea especially for filming as some bits are black on black on black. So the orange highlights the screw's for the camera and even for people like me who end up not seeing where the missing screw went.
We love our Landrover defender x 300d in 110 dimension, with 6 seats since 10 month and that‘s the best car ever we had drove. The next 20 years we don‘t need a other car!
Enjoy Simon - looking forward to all the videos and tips - just picked up my 90 X dynamic last week so will be following you daily with a lot more interest than normal - cheers mate
Awesome looking 90 Simon - looking forward to the new products to make this great car even better - like others I’m sure, the 90 is most of the time, perfect for my needs but occasionally we need more easily accessible storage solutions and those rear seats not going flat (unless you pull out the base) is a design miss IMHO. That said, a real joy owning one of these and nothing else out there I would swap for. 🤓🙏
Are you sure there just isn't a delay on the fuel door lock? Usually they have a couple of minute delay, so you can lock your vehicle and still fill up without risk of someone opening a door and grabbing something while you fill up.
Brilliant !! Straight away Items to be pulled apart . Brilliant . Love the Private Plate .BUT Please put the "90" sticker on the bonnet . Well Done Simon & George
@powerfulukltd great timing!! wondering how to get rid of these seats, and add drawers, shelves etc etc in boot looking forward to your videos on this thx
Congratulations Simon. Just on the rear seat, the bottom part of the rear seats pops out very easily so you can drop the back seats flat. The bottom part actually fits very well behind the front seats. The aluminium step is still there obviously but at least the seats will be flat
Locking fuel flap on my Volvo does not lock straight away to allow time to lock car at fuel station and open the filler flap, it locks after a short delay normally, yours may be the same.
Hi Simon, thinking about ordering but hearing more and more things missing due to 'chipgate', now no locking fuel flap. Little window along the roof is called an Alpine window. Apparently they're in the original defender so you can see people coming down hairpin bends at you going up in the Alps.
Hi Simon, That funnel in the boot is not for your add Blue. Its to fill you fuel tank up from a fuel can which have a narrow nozzel. The diesel filler is very clever won't allow you to miss fuel with petrol Try it.
Looking good. I can't get over you getting 2 keys with it. Look forward to seeing you make improvements especially the locking fuel filler flap. Please also include Discovery 5 owners with this issue as my MY23 disco does not lock.👍
I’m jealous as f%#k, sold my 90 S for a 110 XS, not a spec I’d choose but was offered a deal on it to avoid the price increases. Very tempted to go back to the 90.
A really off-road Defender with locking rear diff *and* the 13A mains socket. You did mention Urban - I do love their roof lights for the Defender, as if they are part of the vehicle rather tha an add-on.
didn't initially like the styling but must admit I've come to like it. I'd say the 90 is not practical in terms of rear space, but it does look damn good 👍
it is not but better design it could have been ,i dont like large long viehicles that is why i bought a secondhand swb shogun to replace my okd defender ,my shogun has good fold up rear seats which when folded leaves plenty flat rear room the defender does not ,and yes the look of new defender has grown on me but the load area design is very poor
Simon, the locking fuel cap problem it seems is caused by the changing of the Body Control Module, even Range rovers don’t have it. Vulkan have developed an add on module but this is not an easy fit and is expensive. Hope you can find a cheaper way. Also as someone has already said there is a shortage of USB C ports and these should be retrofitted by dealer at a later date . Enjoy your car, your lucky as well to get 2 Keys, a lot of us have still only got 1 and LR don’t seem to be in a hurry to provide the other
Yes the dealer said 2 keys was a lucky thing ! I have been looking at the locking thing - there is a device called a "H Bridge" which is what i am looking at. I did see the Vulcan one but its the price of a couple of tanks of fuel. I will see if my car has the locking mechanism fitted and then see if turning on the feature in the CCF makes any difference. I did wonder if it was a legislative thing - as there is no manual release over ride provided ?
Simon I believe that the missing USB’s will be retrofitted by the dealers when they become available and supposed to be free too - my dealership up here in Scotland has told me that is the case and not to worry. I told them that they should be able to get them no problem from RS Components and could fit them before delivery and they weren’t impressed1
I stripped THE STIG down today to see where the looms runs for the USB. Of course they have removed the USB and Click and Go from the back of the seat - that is a shame. I now call the the CLICK & GONE !
Hey Simon. Sorry for my bad grammatik, i‘am 55 years old, long time out of school. At 12.30 you are talking about the big thing on the door, that block the opener for the bonnet. I think that is therefore, that nobody is able to steal your car with a rope. If the drivers door isnt open you can‘t open the bonnet. If the thief break the windows only, no chance. Under the coverage of the engine is the lever of the automatic gearbox. If you release this lever you are able to move your car with a rope. I think thats a good idea vom jlr. Hope that i‘am right. Greetings from Ralf. Ps: I installed the dooropener for the fith door. It works perfekt.
Dose the fuel cap not lock after a period of time I know it’s not the same car but on my volvo xc90 it locks after 12 minutes something to do with paying for fuel first so you are not having to open and close the car ?
Thanks for showing us around your new 90 Simon. I love the look of the car and I am a Land Rover / Range Rover owner and I am just drawn to them like you obviously are (people seem to either love of hate them I know). The X is, as you said, the top spec model but It does cost an eye watering amount to buy. My heart loves it but my head says, not having any electric only mode, is this is the right type of vehicle to be spending that sum of money on in 2022/23? 🤔
I 100% agree and was not planning on buy this car - the next car was planned to be a Rivien or similar. But the plan is I can drive it for 3-6 Months and sell it back to the dealer.... for about the same price... so it seems a good deal but risky
FYI. In Sept 2019 I bought a 110 S Defender. At that time LR was already concerned about new Defenders being re-sold overseas for big money. Their policy (LR Canada) stipulated that a $10K "bond" was held in trust for one year. After 365 days, I took a photo of the car and a newspaper indicating the date. The bond was refunded back.
Absolutely love this spec defender, was my plan to replace my RRS with this model, but after 20 yrs of Rovering, it will end with a Bronco 2 Door replacing my Rover with this color. In the US Rovers are more work than I want to enter my 50's in. I want a more simple machine, still the stunning looks. Madly in love with Simon, will miss him more than the RRS.
@@L663 I will drive my RRS till the dealer service says its totally dead. So will be here for a while, my rover is tip top! Thanks for your help! I love my rear hatch upgrade you sent me.
Use the seat memory feature to get your seat back to suit whichever driver. Is there a passenger seat memory feature? If so, its the passenger seat that is usually used for getting passengers into the back.
The white plastic funnel thing is for filling diesel from a can or, more importantly, from commercial filler nozzles that are too big to fit in the idiot-proof system fitted that stops the driver from filling with petrol accidentally. Up until I had my new fuel stations [bunded storage with pump and flowmeter] I used the plastic funnel always on my capless Honda and Ford vehicle fillers. The new fuel nozzle fits so no longer a regular need for the funnel.
The idiot proofing does not stop someone putting petrol pump in as they are narrower than diesel one. Commercial pumps should not be used on cars as the fuel flows at a higher rate and the plastic filler pipe may split. Same as adblue, never use a pump. Just buy a 10 litre container and don’t add it until the car asks for it. Otherwise the car might not recognise that adblue has been added. Peugeot state this in owner manual and the folk that don’t follow this guidance find their car prevents them starting it because the car thinks the tank level is too low. The minimum top up for Pug 3008/5008 is 10. litres and one lasts me a full year.
@@stevenmoran4060 I buy DERV [white diesel] in fairly large quantities to be stored and dispensed at my yard. Up until this year I had commercial nozzles only, gravity fed, not pumped. These have now been replaced with floor mounted tanks that pump fuel to the narrower nozzles with auto-cut-off. I buy Adblue in 20 litre drums as I only have one vehicle that requires it and that consumes just one millilitre [cc] per mile driven.
Hey Simon, thanks for your videos!! I am a frequent purchaser of your material. I did have a total random question for you, just wondering does Tyler like the overall aesthetic of the newer Defender?? I recall in an old video him joking about the old styling being preferred over the new one.
Both George and Tyler were initially hesitant about the new design but now everyone at work loves the new Defenders.... but they had to earn respect by being good off road and reliable etc.... so far they are really impressive.... OK there are some niggles but the new Defenders are awesome.
I really wish there was a non commercial two seater option with a flat rear. The perfect option for a couple with dogs. I’m excited to see what you do. It actually stopped us buying one recently :-/
Let's talk about the rear passenger area. I love the Defender 90. I can get over the slow moving seats but that's not the world problem. When sitting in the back, it's impossible to get fresh air. There's plenty of light with the sunroof and the safari windows but none of the windows pop open or roll down. You're stuck behind glass on all sides. For long journeys, being a rear passenger would feel claustrophobic. What has been your experience? At least with the 110, the rear windows roll down. Also, what about reliability? I just watched another video where the power steering went out at 150 miles and then it went out again after it was fixed. The coolant lines needed replaced after 10,000 miles too. Your car is brand- new. You haven't even driven it yet and yet there's an HVAC problem. The Defender is supercool when you buy a Land Rover you're buying a lemon.
I hear you loud and clear - there are some issues Land Rover need to address... although you are happy to oversee some issues - it does leave you wondering about the level of engineering if they cannot even get the seats correct...
@@L663 What's further confounding is that Land Rover has been at this game for a very, very long time. What the hell are they doing? Yes, we all know the problems with EVs but at least Tesla attempts to address quality control problems swiftly. Land Rover keeps making these lemons and expects people to buy them. It's a dangerous game they're playing.
Hello Simon, let's hope you have better luck with this one than you had with the other one. All those problems you had. One question, is this George's new 4x4? All the best.
Yes lets hope things go a little smoother than the stig - at least we made it home without a warning light ! George is learning to drive in the Jimny and that will be his first car.
Is there anything on the passenger side to drop the chair down to gain access into the back? A lot of three door cars encourage getting in from the passenger side, my Jimnys had a quick release to get in which enabled the chair to be dropped and slide forwards and also a small foot pedal under the seat for the rear passenger to press to allow them to get out.
@@L663 I am not surprised the Jimny and Landrover enthusiasts have a mutual respect for each other and the Jimny has a cult following just as big as LR. The Jimny has all the characteristics of the early short wheel base 88" Landrover but modernised, the new Jimny GEN4 nailed it with the boxy utilitarian appearance, simplicity and honesty which is missing from most modern 4x4s.
Congratulations Simon. I picked up a D300 110 x yesterday, also a cancelled order. Only problem I have is that there are only two usb/lightening sockets for the 2nd row seats and no cigarette lighter sockets. Do you know if the wiring harness will be there as I need at least one for a VHF radio I have.
@@OverlandingwithBruce I looked and the part numbers are not the same for the wiring loom - I am close to do this now - it seems that i can use some parts from the Disco Sport rear console loom.
Range Rover Classic Seat Slider was Brilliant !!!!!!! so was the Sliding rear side windows combined with the Massive front windows was literally Mind Blowing when cruising down the South of France for example !!!! But there is no Sliding Rear Window in the 90 !!!. Dunno bout good resale values !!!!!!!!!- S1 Def is stood for months waiting for a punter
I would love a commercial but hate that enclosed bulkhead that isolates the rear from the front.. My dog needs to see where I’m driving… Any ideas for removal..and retrofit windows into a commercial? Thanks..great video as always Will you have the 90 at the British Land Rover show this coming Sunday at Stafford?
@@sally5371 so far someone was able to design a platform of about 5’10”, but as the front seats slant forward, the higher the platform the longer the bed can be. Hoping these guys can work their magic, maybe even make something 6 feet on the passenger side and shorter on the drivers side so the drivers seat can stay in it’s position. Or a folding solution so two people can ride in the car then the seats pushed up and bed folded down when needed.
Down at our local dealer we measured up what’s possible. My husband is 6’ 1” and with the front seats slid and tilted forwards and the base approx height of arm rest I reckon we could do it for a two or three night camp. Sliding drawers beneath the bed would add functionality. I just like the idea to see if it is possible If you don’t need the scale of the 110.
Very interesting to hear how you got the car….I now wonder if my 13 year loyalty might work in my favour as well! I have only read of 12/18 month delivery times but I can’t wait that long….I got only two change of clothes! (jimmy Durante in about 1958!). I have seen plenty of 90’s but wished they were “95’s” as to me the 90 looks just slightly too short BUT I really like yours and so pleased you got the X version…it’s the only one to have of course!! Have you got the fancy Matrix lights?….and the Head Up display will become second nature in a few miles…you might think it is a distraction at first but soon it will be indispensable. Try not to take it apart quite as much as poor old Stig….but you have spotted a few upgrades to be made. Well done and happy 90 motoring!!😀😀😀😀😀Richard
My dashboard changes to red when I alter the adaptive dynamics setting to “open road” and alters the gearbox changes to be quicker with a slightly faster throttle response. I cannot understand why it was an option that virtually nobody ever took as it transforms the car compared to the standard setup.🙂🙂🙂🙂
I thought the grill was blue at first (not realising it was a reflection until you got near ) and thought it looked trick! What an idiot I am. Those smaller windows are Alpine Lights, not Safari Windows 👍
Congrats! It's fantastic! A few things I don't like though. Maybe you can consider changing them? After all, its what you do right? :) Firstly, the glossy black. If it's the standard piano black material LR uses, it's going to scratch so bad, so quickly! So around the wheels and sides and mirrors, it will be a problem. On the bonnet it looks good though... 20 inch tyres ... Well not as good for offroading, but on the other hand, there are much more tyre options available compared to the 19s. A nice set of BFG's KO 3's (when they launch soon) will look epic! Man ...the recovery loops at the back look badass :) Spare wheel cover at the back is a must. Sun will make little cracks very quickly in that back tyre which could cause a blow out... Overall, I look forward to this journey with you...
Doesn’t the diesel have an anti syphoning device in the filler neck and the little white funnel in the boot designed to open it if you have to fill from a Jerry can?
@@L663 yeah, thought that when I seen it later. I know new cars have teething problems, my nephew is having a new Range Rover sport in December, changing from an X5, will be interesting how it compares
it doesn't say what software you're on because they forgot to turn on the mobile data in connectivity settings. Also 'Live' apps missing which should install once it's online
No doubt a lovely car to drive and in isolation it has some great details but as much as I want to come to like the overall design it remains a solid miss for me. It just does not work as a whole. Perhaps the facelift will sharpen the look up particularly at the front where its just to bland and smoothed off.
Dear Simon :) I am one step to the buying my Land Rover D300 X 110. Worst thing that is happening to me is that everyone is droping "poop storm" about LR reliability. IS THAT RIGHT? OR THEY ARE JUST POOR :D
