it’s really sad that no one in the black family felt comfortable calling out the white dad even in a _moderated conversation specifically about racism._
It's a reality show, you never know how much is natural conversation and how much is making an entertaining TV show. Like, if the producer asked if he could say some of those things just a minute prior before they rolled the cameras then calling someone out would feel weird.
What's funnier: meeting a stranger and being 90% sure he's doing blackface, but not wanting to accuse him just in case OR meeting a stranger and slowly coming to the realization he's doing blackface. Like you're having dinner and he takes a big sip of water and his upper lip is suddenly white
i think the slow burn is funnier. like maybe at first ur like “huh, this person doesn’t have typical black features, but then again there is no one look for a race” then “did his skin just come off a bit? i probably didn’t see it before?” then. “oh my fucking god that’s makeup. this is a white man in blackface. oh my god. what the fuck”
@@batjackattack5556 The way you wrote this made me think of a horror movie, but instead of slowly finding out that the person you're interacting with isn't human, you slowly find out that you're interacting with a white dude in blackface.
Bruno is actually the worst and I hope that his laundry never dries correctly, that he always gets eyelashes stuck in his eyes and that his pillow never has a cold side. That man is the bane of my existence since seeing this video
I looked up the show out of curiosity and what do you know, the white family wasn't a real family at all. The "parents" were dating at the time but nothing more serious than that, and the daughter was entirely unrelated and didn't even know them. The black family was actually a real family though, and I think this difference explains a lot about the behaviour of the two families here.
I believe Rose actually is Carmen’s daughter? but yeah Carmen is/was a talent scout, Bruno is actually Bruno Marcotulli and was her boyfriend at the time, and Rose is/was also an actor. Not sure if what they were doing IN the show was acting too? (I presume not) but the black family WERE completely real and not actors and WERENT TOLD that the ‘Wurgles’ were fake/actors. They apparently got told that Bruno was a teacher!! and only found out he was an actor from googling him after the show aired????
There's no way Bruno doesn't loudly retell the story about how he taught a bunch of black people that racism only exists bc their reactions allows it to exist every time he has one too many
Yeah he was pretty fucking proud of that hot take. Solved racism. If The Blacks just let white people call them n*****s without reacting then racism wouldn't exist! And that is how we make America great again! Honestly, Bruno was just giving us all a glimpse of the dystopian future that we now exist in.
No it's not adorable, if you know the history, they used to ban blacks at most golf courses for a very long time. Like back to 1961, and some places still enforced segregation
Daisy… Daisy… give me your answer do I’m…. Half….. crazy…… all.. for.. the.. love.. for.. you…… it… would…. Be…. A….. stylish…… marriage…… I can’t….. afford a carriage……
"Another melinated queen" fucking killed me. But seeing like that black dad just being like "I'm gonna do the things I always do but this time without getting discriminated" is like legit sad. Meanwhile the white dad is just like "I will say a slur now I think I've earned it"
“it’s nice being treated respectfully and not being judged in my everyday life for once.” “yes finally!! i can say the word!! i can finally be cool!!!”
Literally the black family were just doing normal stuff and the white family wanted to see the black side of things but the dad just wanted to say the n word without repercussions
@@khiaralshae8636 and honestly the only reason he felt more accepted was because he was “the same race”, wasn’t even really a race issue white family really just wanted to be racist or woke (except rose seems like she was a bit oblivious)
The white family gives off “takes group photos with the local children during their African vacation” vibe. But that little girl is so earnestly trying to learn and grow. The way she sat up and opened her posture to really hear when another perspective was being voiced was so endearing.
@@evansblackparadeI really wanna hear what she thought going through all this. It really felt like she wanted to say somethings, but maybe it didn’t make it in, or she was directed not to. I wanna know if she was kinda being told to be more like her parents but she was comfortable with it.
the white parents were trying so hard to be woke but didn’t realize there are limits rose was a real one ngl and i loved the black dad just being like “imma go golf lol”
@@Silvercanth Hell yeah, TWEWY slaps. If there was a version of the game that combined the Final Mix visuals and content with the DS controls, I'd pay basically whatever that modder asked. I'm sitting on NEO TWEWY, but the second I get free time I'm going to basically devour it.
The black dad was like “lol I’m going to go play golf” and the white guy was like “how many times can I possibly say the n word?” And I think that says a lot about this whole issue in general
lmao but yeah the black dad is like "okay let's see if i get treated nicely by white people for once!" and the white dad is like "let's be as racist as i can
EXACTLY and the very obvious white guilt and black fetishization going on with that couple was fucking terrible. the black family was making fun of how ridiculous they looked and were making funny jokes about being trust fund babies and the white family just.....did whatever tf it was they did.
Bruno is the kinda man who will tell you not to get “emotional” over racial injustices while simultaneously being the guy that would punch a ref at a 6 year olds soccer game
aka most gen x white fathers who have to say "I'm not racist" way too often for it to actually be true. speaking from experience as my last foster father barely called me by my actual name because he thought "chinky" was better.....
This show is straight lies!! And these dudes should know this, doing a commentary on this, with out doing any research, either they are terrible at what they do or the want to instigate the masses and trigger hate. These are the people that claim to be for equality when the instigate more hate and more racism. They are exactly what they claim to hate. Film actor (referred to here as a teacher) Bruno Marcotulli portrays Bruno Wurgel; his purported girlfriend Carmen, and her daughter Rose Bloomfield (a child actor who starred on the Disney television show Movie Surfers, until she quit shortly after being cast in Black. White.). The white family in black face are all paid actors. Do your research, don’t fall victim to false information.
@@microwaav I agree, but the media industry can mean getting paid to do pretty awful and morally bad things sometimes, often under contract. Some people decide, or are forced to decide, to do bad things at times. Not trying to make an excuse for these people because I don't think that's what happened here, but, just saying that kinda thing can happen. You never know what kind of situation someone's in.
Bruno at 29:08 is literally sitting in that chair like a midwestern white father whose kid came home from college with bright blue hair and a same-sex partner
It's crazy how Bruno immediately assumed that HE was gonna be the one teaching life lessons and giving advice in this scenario. And when I say "crazy" I mean not surprising in the least.
Chatters on Hasan's stream found out that the white couple arent together anymore, Bruno does occasional youtube vids, and the daughter is now a christian wellness podcaster. Theres not really anything available about everyone else though
@@runjennierun07 I hope it's a healthy podcast! A lot of people see really big red flags from Christians starting podcasts or channels about their religion, but honestly, if it's just about wellness and taking care of yourself as a Christian, she can pop off.
it's actually so sad hearing jarvis say that hearing him say the n word made his heart beat faster😭like wow, we are so conditioned to feel fear when they say it and he's doing it so casually
The fact that Bruno lied about experiencing someone calling him the n-word specifically so that he could try to convince actual black people that there’s nothing wrong with non-black people using it and that what’s actually wrong is how black people react to being called it is just so unbelievably vile and disgusting. I think a part of me died watching that.
I'm paused on that part in the focus group- I almost can't bear to watch the rest since it's so incredibly shocking to see the way in which this man chooses to express himself given the bare minimum allowance of physically passing as African American.
They try to take off the make up but they can"t, and it turns out Bruce used magic from satan/ devils to force their race swap to be permanent. And the rest of the movie is Bruce saying the n word straight into the camera
That "needing to wipe my hands" thing is one of the most disgusting things I've ever heard someone say while genuinely thinking they were being righteous.
...he wasn't being righteous he was admitting an internalised racist thought that he had that he's aware and ashamed of. The first step of overcoming a flaw in yourself is admitting it.
"It has no power if you don't give it power" is just straight bs. That line of logic only makes sense to someone who's never been part of a marginalized group
I was the only black girl in my high school ( in the middle of a cornfield) and my senior year of high school during black history month my English teacher dead ass showed this during class as if it was some type of educational experience for the class and ??? I’m just so glad someone is talking about this cause 17 year old me was literally losing my mind arguing with my teacher and class about how insane this is
Oh my gosh, I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how awkward and deeply off-putting that experience was. I hope at least some of your classmates could see it was gross
Man, I feel so bad for the kids getting dragged into this shit. And damn, Rose suddenly dished out what should have been the most obvious stuff. Prime example of kids having more sense than adults. She really seems like she truly wants to understand. And it honestly baffles me how hard it is for some people to grasp some of this stuff!
I would love to think that, at some point in the process, everyone under 40 in the group walked out and had to be lured back with financial inducement or something.
The segments with the black family in whiteface are hilarious but the segments with the white family in blackface are a psychological horror experiment
These white parents do a perfect parody of white liberal racism, and the worst part is that it isn't actually a parody. They're actually serious. I screeched several times
@@Wired_User honestly, that would be a better theme to explore than whatever this shit was. Neoliberals who want to believe, or be believed to be, fighting racism, or "understand what they're going through" but are slowly shown their own ignorance.
@@Wired_User honestly the most people I’ve seen act like this aren’t neo liberals it’s just regular white liberals. They act like they’re allies but their reality is completely warped
@@Wired_User Hey, could you explain exactly how you've determined that these individuals are neoliberals and not liberals, and explain the difference that allowed you to make that distinction in this case?
@@Kiki-wm5or agreed, along with their age, it makes sense to me that they are "comfortable" middle class white liberals whose parents didn't believe in literally lynching and prosecuting black people for nothing. and they think they are super strong allies because of that.
In a way.... It shows how performative a lot of woke white people are. It highlights the struggle of being around such blatantly unaware people. Not just the family in the show, but allll the people who okayed and celebrated it. But I suppose the message is lost on the unaware
@@Souperasylum absolutely, I've seen other white people arguing with black creators on tik tok about racism, and it can be super basic shit too, then you look at their profile and it says blm 💀
The part where Rose called out the way this show works as everyone being forced into basically a bundle of stereotypes was 100% aimed at the production crew.
Honestly she’s 17, so there’s a fair chance she never *really* consented to doing this show in the first place since she was a minor…. Like we’ve seen what her parents do when cameras are rolling imagine what shit they put her through in real life
Couple things: - I love how they say 'the opposite race' like black and white are the only races lol - I really wanted the guy from the black family to give the guy from the white family really awful advice on how to be black like darrell does to michael on the office that would have made this vaguely tolerable
Sort of related to black and white people apparently being the only two races, the girl saying she looked like a black girl bugged the hell outta me after they showed a picture of her. No she fcking didn't, none of them did. If anything she looked like a darkskin indian girl, especially because they keep straight hair on her. Having darkskin does not mean you look/are black, you need the facial features and everything else that goes into that. If I ran into her my first thought would not be that she's black. And the actual black dad too. This could be because I am around white-skin black people, but he just looks like a pale black person with straight hair. It's his eyes that give it away for me.
Honestly poetry that the black family is like "I can finally learn how genuinely racist white people are when we aren't around" and then the white family, ESPECIALLY Bruno, absolutely goes out of their way to prove that point
*Brian, Renee, and Nick:* an actual real family that actually suffers real racism wanting to see the privilege difference for themselves. *Bruno:* * _on the biggest power-trip of his life_ * I need to say the N word every 5 seconds or I will *literally* *_die._*
To be fair when I was 11-12 I had just gotten into secondary school and felt like I could swear freely for the first time and for the next two years every other word was fuck or shit. Im not defending him, But I get where he's coming from
@@darinpringle5611 in what way is a middle schooler learning swears the same as a grown adult man using a violent slur? like... how exactly are those even a little bit comparable?
This show is, ironically, the whitest thing ever. It didn’t show Flanders what it was like to be an oppressed minority, it shows his family what words he wishes he could say.
It’s weirdly funny how the “daughter” in the show was named Rose, (I’m not sure if the people on the show were given fake names or not), since that’s the daughter’s name in Get Out. This show was essentially the movie without the other aspects of it.
At the end of the show, each of the participants wrote a letter to talk about what they learned. Bruno's literally was that he didn't learn anything, except that black people are even more sensitive and uppity than he thought. Really great and enlightening experiment this whole show was /s
The difference in believability between the white family and the black family is so stark. If I ran into Bartholomew Mayonnaise on the street I would not be able to distinguish him from any other white, middle-class, suburban dad, meanwhile *Bruno* would have set off alarm bells that he wasn't even human, let alone black.
@@firetarrasque4667 I think it's rather that the black family has actual experience trying to "blend in" with white people whereas the white family (and by extension, the makeup artists) have an idealized caricature of what being black is in their heads. I think this is best represented by the scene of Bruno showing off his "gangster walk"
can we pay attention to how different the two focus group discussions were. in the first focus group the black people were like we’re never gonna get true equality and talked about how hurtful a racial SLUR is to them. while in the focus group for white people their main problems were “i have to fill out more paper work” and not being able to call someone “brother”. really pinpoints the struggles different communities have to face in this country
What's that expression, "when you're used to privilege, equality feels like oppression". This perfectly encapsulates that. Being denied jobs or advancement you're qualified for and not being able to say brother are not the same.
@@altusshow7574 Also like, *even then* there's absolutely nothing stopping someone from using "brother" anyway, as long as it's like. Sincere. And you don't make it weird. But that goes for just about everything. Even just saying "yo" is gonna sound weird if you manage to make it weird.
@@nyahnyahson523 I get the feeling like he was lying and he really said the n-word but wanted to look a little better to the people in the room, It can be that he only said brother....idk I just get the feeling... Just the way he phrase it saying like "why can't I say it, if you do it"
why do so many white people think being uncomfortable is oppression? like yes, seeing the effects of systemic racism and how you continue to uphold it SHOULD make you uncomfortable. this is called empathy!!
Can we put a restraining order on Bruno on behalf of everyone? The way he looked at his wife in makeup made my soul recoil to a depth I’ve never experienced and his ease of using slurs in and out of makeup was beyond fucking horrific. The fact that no one punched him in the face out of pure reflex is shocking.
when they all laughed i was absolutely horrified its like they unleashed something in them like haha now i can be crazy and vile. they look soooooo weird

Nothing to do with the race thing, but if my husband said "I'm in love with this woman" and suddenly couldn't resist kissing me AFTER I got a full face of prosthetics, fake teeth, a wig, and an inch of makeup, I'd immediately file for divorce.
@@rumu1240 Right? Talking about black people having a "warmth in their hearts" but then applying that to her white husband in black face. If the "warmth" she's talking about came from the hearts of black people she wouldn't feel it in that instance. Bruno didn't put makeup on his heart ffs. What she's feeling is called "arousal." Why does her daughter seem to understand her personal sexuality more than her mom does? "Hot and sticky fantastic" had me rolling.
The white mom seems like the type to go on a trip to Africa to “find herself” and when she comes back she doesn’t specify what country, area, literally anything about where she went
I honest to God hate that shit I'm not even African but come ON AFRICA IS A MASSIVE PLACE!!! ITS SUCH A PRETTY CONTINENT. There's SO MUCH one could do in just one of the countries there, like any country really, but the history and the nature there I've been told by people who've gone there (like geologists, I love rockhounding stuff and Africa's got like, all of the good minerals besides South America) that it's ABSOLUTELY worth visiting at least one country just based on the landscape alone. I've also been told the food is an absolute delight. I really do hope to travel someplace there, perhaps one of the Southern African countries, one day at least. Not a fan of the heat that they can have there but it'd be worth it for the culture and the nature.
I’m Cuban but when white people walk around saying, I’m like one of the islanders I’ve come here so much it like I’m Cuban, it makes me feel physically sick
africa... is a county, right? edit: sorry i mean country, obviously africa is a big place with a lot of people. like at least 50, right? (this is a sarcastic post, obviously africa is a continent with MORE THAN 50 PEOPLE IN IT)

I didn't notice this when watching through these videos the first time. If I'm not mistaken this is scripted, so if that is genuinely the case, I have a few questions and concerns. Though, even if it were to be real, we don't see how their real home life is so I think its safe to say they were playing a character for the public/screen to begin with. Edit: I just saw it. I feel sick
I literally cannot finish this video, the show is too painful to watch even behind the shield of these two guys mocking every sentence. I made it halfway before I called it quits.
the fact that those white people invaded this black space where these black people are talking about their feelings and experiences and then THE WHITE GUY MAKES UP A STORY TO TELL????????? literally made my blood BOIL, i can't even describe the rage this show brings me
That part in particular was so fucked up like, at least the girl Rose had the decency and self-awareness to feel uncomfortable at the poetry thing. The way Bruno was acting like he was dispensing some kind of wisdom while violating a space that was supposed to be safe for these people....wow. I hope at the very least the people there were warned about the show's premise and weren't just walking into this situation completely unaware of what was going on.
Not even just made up a story. He made up a story where he just HAD TO SAY THE N WORD. Like+?!??!?!?! What??? I mean make up the story to try to fit in MAYBE but what was the purpose of saying the nword IN FULL?? Does that man rly believe black ppl just say nword consistently? Kmt

That’s genuinely a window into how some people view race, especially in America (and how it’s been viewed historically with race science and hierarchy). Black as the negation of white. In the same way dirty is the negation of clean. To them, they’re fundamentally opposite, antagonistic categories. Which is also why the one drop rule existed: since black and white are opposite and contradictory, and whiteness is “purity,” then the presence of “blackness” at all makes the whole impure or unclean, like a stain on an otherwise clean shirt will make the shirt as a whole unclean.

I feel like the show really shows the generational differences between the children and their parents, especially with the white family. That to me is the most interesting thing about it. The 17-year-old girl clearly has the most awareness of how the whole situation is fucked up and she makes the most sense of everyone on the show. It reveals, given her parents' clear internal biases, that nurture isn't the only thing that informs our views. Societal changes and contact with other viewpoints make a lot of difference, and the interconnectedness of our current society along with the information that we all have at our fingertips is helping to change the minds of the younger generation. I wonder how she felt about her parents after this show aired, especially her dad, given how often he felt comfortable just fucking saying the n-word.
Really, just goes to show how performative their views are. As a white person, I’m always scared that I’ll come off like that, just because I’m awkward and I know it’s a tricky subject regardless. I’m tryna learn how to be a better ally from my friends and POC creators.

I like how the girl is very progressive in her thinking and how she sat up in her chair and got into a more attentive position when the dude was talking about what modern racism is.
she’s not progressive, she’s just doing the bare minimum. i hate that the whole comment section gives her so much credit for speaking out and being aware when being educated and understanding that everything in this show is WRONG is being “progressive” when it’s the bare minimum. calling out racism and whatever was going on in that show is what white people SHOULD do because it’s common sense.
