Thanks so much for the review! I'm certainly glad y'all gave them a second chance and I love hearing that they faired much better this go around. The Bricks are certainly not for everyone and I don't expect any food can make everyone happy as our tastebuds are all so different! These are definitely designed as a performance product and not a snack bar. I personally eat one whole brick in a sitting but others prefer to partition them up depending on their macro/caloric goals. They aren't designed to be too sweet as we aren't trying to compete with the snicker bars of the world. They work great for camping/hunting/hiking and I use them every day after I train. So glad you gave them a second shot and so grateful for the review! I really enjoyed having you on the podcast and I appreciate all you do for the community! For those asking, the price of a single is 12 dollars but we discount them considerably as you get more. For instance 24 or more bricks yields a 30% discount. Thanks again!
I want to make something really clear, if it isn't from watching the video. Keto Bricks are not the answer if you're looking for something to satisfy your sweet tooth. They are a shelf stable, portable food source that is designed to hit keto macronutrient percentages. I really see these as something that is geared toward weigh lifters, body builders, and to take when you're hiking or camping. It seems that people either love them or hate them. Make your purchase decision accordingly.
I melt them down into mini muffin pans and take them with me when I travel or when I know I am out for the day at Summerfest / State fair etc. I also keep some in my purse instead of "purse bacon" for those emergencies when I may be tempted to eat something not on my eating plan.
I melt mine down and put them into little silicone molds! Honestly the peanut butter chocolate is Wayyyyy better melted and put in freezer to harden! I’m not sure why but doing that really brings out the pb and chocolate flavors better! My faves are bells brownie batter and milk and cookies! Not a fan of the ones with pea protein!
I tried the brownie batter one. I melted it down and made smaller “pucks”, which I keep for times I am out and get hungry. They keep me from making a bad choice.
As someone who has purchased the regular flavors and seasonal flavors, when they are fresh they are soft, and do not break up into crumbles if you try to cut them and have a better mouth feel. When they are not the seasonal ones or you just happen to have a fresher batch, they are more likely to have all of the issues you initially discussed. I still purchase the product because I enjoy it regardless. The most recent maple flavor was SO SO good too. You guys really missed out on that. The reason people prefer to melt them down(including myself) is for all the reasons you initially disliked them. They just don't stay super fresh and have that consistency for super long despite being shelf stable. I personally melt them using a little silicone ball sheet and have them as a snack after dinner or to complement dinner. It's great product if your expectations are set appropriately.
Great info Steve & Courtney! I’ve tried several of the flavors, I prefer to melt them & make the little pucks for a snack. The best one is the Bell’s Brownie Batter, then top it off with Nootropic Icing & swirl them together a bit! Yummy!
Looking forward to this! I've got a backpacking trip planned summer of 2024 to the highest mountain peak in my state, around 14k feet elevation, and I'm looking for backpacking food. I can't eat highly processed carb krap even when I'm not hiking for days. A few Keto bricks may give this 6+ decade young body just what it needs for an extended throwdown in the Rockys. Thanks Steve and Courtney!
I have purchased bricks for a couple years and I like many of the flavors. If I understand the story correctly, they were made to be a shelf stable meal replacement rather than a sweet treat, so I can understand that they are not everyone's cup of tea. I melt them and put into a silicone mold to make small "bite sized" pieces to use as a treat (I keep them in the freezer). My favorite flavors are Bells Brownie Batter and Nootropic Icing (which is out of stock). I've not tried any of the other recipes.
I definitely see them as post-workout food (that or hiking/camping/road trip food). But you're right, I wouldn't consider them a "sweet treat" or "dessert".
@@student1621 I use the microwave. I cut the full bar into about 6 pieces (so it melts quicker) and put it in a pyrex type measuring cup so it's easier to pour into the molds. I just want it melted, not cooked - so I only microwave enough for it to melt. Some bars are thicker than others when melted, but easy enough to pour into a mold.
My wife melts them into smaller bites and she uses them while working at a high pressure medical area and it gets her through the day until she can get a meal in. I use them for workouts as eating 1000 calories of the peanut butter brick help power the longer workouts there are not many items I can eat that last a 10 mile hike or 3 hour cardio weight lifting workout. Somehow these do the trick.
I'm a big fan of Keto Bricks, but I generally like the ones with the whey protein more than the pea protein. Not a fan of that mouth coating feeling the pea protein ones seem to have. The brownie batter and chocolate peanut butter are my favorites.
I'm glad you tried them again. When I got them when they first came out, I'd melt them down to use as fat bombs. Now I just chop them up and put them in a covered glass container to use when I'm still hungry after a meal. I love that they crumble because I use the crumbs as add ins for my Kato Chow creami ice cream (thanks, Miriam). I don't care for the coconut flavors; peanut butter and milk and cookies are my favorites. These are much less expensive per bar if you buy them in monthly allotments.
I ordered Keto Bricks to have on hand while waiting in the hospital during my son's surgeries. I melted them up and put them in mini cupcake molds to make puck sized portions. Not knowing how long any of the surgeries would take I didn't want to take the time to go to the cafeteria. They held me over and worked well. I do prefer the whey protein bricks to the pea protein.
I tried 3 of the Bricks. Don't usually throw out food but these did go in the garbage. I can think of so many substitutes for a meal I would prefer. That being said, great for hikers and outdoor people.
I feel that the product is probably not targeted toward the broad keto audience. Like I said in the video, they really feel like they are geared toward weight lifters and bodybuilders, and as you state, hikers and campers.
If you've ever tried to make traditional pemmican, a product with a similar macro profile, you'll know the animal protein is dried and powderized, then amalgamated with fat and flavoring. Even the best possible texture seldom rates as tasty by new palates!
I didn’t like them the first time I tried to eat them, but melting them down in microwave, stirring, then pouring them into silicon molds… I can get 8 out of a brick and eat them for a quick snack rather than eating something bad for me. It knocks the hunger off until I can eat a Keto meal. My very favorite is the Bells Brownie, then Chocolate Peanut Butter ,Blueberry and Maple Pecan. 👍
Whose in the guard, is your daughter in the Navy? I’m a USMC vet from the 80’s. Got a lot of respect for young people who chose to serve. Love your videos and the way you do them. Very professional but not snobbish if that makes sense
Thanks Steve and Courtney! Choc PB is my favorite, but I only like it melted and re-formed. It’s the strangest thing to me. I don’t ever cut or bite from the original brick. Just ain’t the same. 😊
Another vote for melting them down in to pucks. I chunk the whole bar, put in microwave for about 1 min, stir well and pour into molds--top with a sprinkle of smoked salt and store in the fridge. Yummo. Doing BBBE right now and am looking forward to my bites when I need to bump up my fats.
I melt my keto bricks, over a make shift double boiler, and pour into silicone molds. Sometimes I add a little something like cocoa butter, browned butter, a flavor extract, or a little sweetener. I've been thinking of adding some crumbled bacon to the Buttered Maple Pecan brick (bacon makes everything better). We use them for a quick pick me up, when we are out of the house, or when we are traveling. They're shelf stable so we also stock them for "emergency" food.
Thanks for being open to revisit keto brick. I malt them in microwave and put in silicone mold. I use them as energy boost or fat bomb. By the way not all have pea protein.
I am glad you did a review of the coconut cream, which I too was extremely disappointed. The coconut cream has a sour taste to me, almost like it is cream gone bad -- yuk. However, the Milk and Cookies is tasty. I also tried and liked Toasted Almond Coconut and Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup. I use Keto Brick primarily as treats for those times I crave sweets or chocolate.
Steve, thank you for another thorough, honest, helpful review. I haven't tried these and appreciate details that the owner contacted you, how these break, taste, expectations, price and your thoughts on how they're best used. I did note you mentioned some contain pea protein. That caught my attention as I am currently taking the Adapt Your Life (Dr. Westman) "Power of Protein" course with the Drs. Eades where I learned plant protein is not nearly as bioavailable to us as animal protein, for instance pea vs. whey. I had no idea. In fact, they said plant protein is only about half the amount available to our bodies vs the protein grams stated on a package. Just passing info along regarding bricks, or whatever food, of plant protein & you may already be aware of this. Again, thanks very much for all the info from you and Courtney.
My absolute favorite so far is the Buttered Maple Pecan. I melt them down and make smaller 100 calorie pucks out of them. Some times I will add some nuts to the smaller pucks for more texture.
Thanks for revisiting Keto Brick. I have come to rely on it and have my favorites. And some I don't like at all or am bored by. Bells Brownie batter and milk and cookies, are probably my top two. You answered a question I had about coconut cream - it has something very weird in it and when I shared with a friend, he thought so also, like the coconut was old maybe. But your experience says it's not old but just the way it is. I melt the bricks in the microwave between 1-2 minutes and then spoon them into molds that make 10 pucks per brick so I can just easily portion and eat one or two. The texture seems perfectly fine doing it that way. If there are fun crunchy things in the brick - like the choc malt or the milk and cookies you have to spoon carefully to get them distributed to each of the little cups. p.s. I think they are flavored on the low end of "intensity" because people who eat carnivore or ketovore experience a change in taste sensitivity and no longer need the super sweet punch that carb eaters require due to a much higher intake of sweet and hyper palatable things in general. -----and very low carb is the market most likely to buy them consistently.
I have always melted them down into 1oz pucks. I take two chocolate peanut butter and one peanut butter together for a stronger peanut butter flavor. I also store in freezer.
Really glad I watched this. I tried the milk and cookies and the peanut butter a while back and hated them both. I tried melting them, adding them to other things, really anything I could think of not to waste the money on them. I ended up throwing them away they were so bad. So I know, if the milk and cookies were a favorite of yours, there is no point in me trying them again. Thanks for helping me save money.
I like some of them, but not all of them. I like the sweeter ones, but the saltier ones are not my favorite. The best two are the Nootropic Icing and the Bell's Brownie Batter. What I like best about them is the nutrition. They are basically quite filling meal substitutes or fat bombs not intended to be candy bars. They are very convenient to eat while travelling.
I melt the bricks down and then put them in a mold that makes half ounce pieces. Then put the mold into the refrigerator. I will have a couple pieces in the evening. They give me a sweet treat and I get a little fat before bed. I can’t handle eating straight cold butter.
I melt them down and put into molds. I do prefer them chilled. I like to take them with me when travelling or to have as a snack which is just enough to curb a snack attack. I do like many of the flavours.
Soap and banana candy? ooooohhh yuck. I'm glad you're trying them again. The ones I've tried have not been for me, although I understand the purpose and the nutritional value. Thanks for 'taking one for the team' again!
I use a fondue pot to melt these down, and put them into pb cup sized molds, the salt gets unevenly distributed, but otherwise the texture ends up being fine. They typically break down into 10 cups, so they're basically 100 calorie keto snacks. I'll grab 5-6 for a meal. I also have used chocolate chip molds and add these to Keto Chow ice cream in my Ninja Creami - they're not overly sweet, but give a nice crunchy texture to a pint of ice cream. Overall, these are my go-to for airplane trips and outdoor activities. For road-tripping, I prefer Keto Chow shakes, but these work as well. My favorite flavors are Mint Chocolate and Milk & Cookies.
FYI The Bell's Brownie Batter uses a different protein, beef protein. I keep them in my emergency kit. Only buy them on their big sale & they give discount for multiple bars.
Hi to you both. I found , as with many Keto foods, i liked keto bricks after eating a few times and obviously taste buds changing. I'd never be able to eat more than a snack piece....at least at this time. If it was the only thing to eat i could see eating it all. Gloria from Florida on the Space coast
Glad you tried them again. I love chocolate peanut butter. I could never eat a whole bar at once. For sure they aren't a sweet treat. I melt them down and sometimes have a little bit with my last meal of the day.
@SeriousKeto I'm not sure why you keep saying they are not a sweet treat when many comments say that us what they are using them for. Can you elaborate more on your reason?
@@cathywoofter6983 Because these are not like Perfect Keto's Nola Bars in terms of being a sweet snack. No one is going to mistake the taste of these for candy bars. I don't want someone purchasing these thinking they are getting something that will satisfy their need for sweets. They are very good for quelling your hunger and hitting your keto macros.
As I mentioned before in your previous review and I'm glad you pinned your comment on this review, THIS PRODUCT IS NOT FOR EVERYONE. I primarily use these as a macronutrient supplement and as a shelf stable meal for hiking and hunting. The one product of Robert's I do recommend EVERYONE buy is his book "Ketogenic Bodybuilding". Even if you are not interested in bodybuilding, there is a lot of great information in that book for weightlifting and nutrition in general. It probably was the best nutrition book I purchased last year.
I've been making my own version of these with your nuttzo recipe, cacao butter, stevia glycerite, and whatever else i wanna throw in. They are amazing. Ohhh I use the equip protein powder as well.
Just be aware that the brick is more like a shelf stable, keto macro bomb. It's not a candy bar. I don't want people buying them thinking they are a "sweet treat".
I bought some and I think the ones I liked were the mocha and the peanut butter or chocolate peanut butter cup. I do wish they were more economical and/or more easy to segment.
Buttered Maple Pecan! My favorite! I use them to satisfy my sweet tooth. Since the bars are mine alone, i just eat about 1 tablespoon right off the bar. A bar lasts quite a long time and the macros are perfect. I'm wondering if the mouth-feel you mention is from the high fat content.
I like to melt them down into pucks and use them for when i don't have time to prepare something or can't prepare something. They are great for traveling and my husband takes them to work for quick meal on busy days. They can be expensive, but the more you buy the cheaper the bars become and they are super clean. My favorites so far are the Chocolate Peanut butter and Maple Pecan. Now i want to try the Milk and cookies 😊.
I don't *love* Keto Brick, but they do in a pinch and have better macros than a handful of Lily's morsels. I do what Rachel and Joe of 2 Krazy Ketos do-I melt them and pour them into small silicone molds to make 12 smaller Keto Brick fat bombs. I store them in my freezer and will eat one if I'm really craving something sweet. The only one that I find the mouth feel almost unbearable is the cookies and cream one. It leaves sticky bits in my molars lol The maple butter pecan is, hands down, my favorite.
I went and rewatched the original Keto Brick video and laughed out loud several times - great comedy. Was pretty sure I would never try them but reading how many people melt them into pucks has me intrigued!
Just throwing this question out after reading comments about freshness, softness and crumbling. What does anyone think about vacuum sealing the brick (or the melted portions) and adding an oxygen absorber for good measure? Im wondering if that would keep them fresher longer. Thoughts?
I’ve been on the fence for a while about buying the coconut cream brick….and now I won’t. I’m not real crazy about the flavor of soap. 😜 Thank you & Courtney for giving your honest opinions about all of these flavors. 👍🏻
I never could understand people that get angry over somebody liking or disliking something! What in the heck does it matter. We all have different likes and dislikes. A lot of people likes keto chow and I don’t like it. It’s so salty. I’ve bought it and I still have it in my cupboard and I don’t know what to do with it because to me it tasted nasty. I will probably use it in a recipe and eliminate the salt. Your little guy likes the tomato soup and I thought it was so bad I threw it out. I couldn’t even eat it. I couldn’t make ice cream out of keto chow. It didn’t work. But why would anybody get mad that I don’t like it. I’m not mad that everybody likes it. I have never tried the brick because it is too high fat. I’ve seen some reviews where people didn’t like it and the reasons seemed valid to me. I trust your reviews as you and your family are honest. Also if you don’t like something and I do like it, that’s fine. And visa versa. I can see how the bricks would be good on a camping trip if hiking. Thank you for your recipes and your honest reviews. ❤
I think people were more bothered because Robert Sikes (owner of Keto Brick) and his wife are great people and folks thought that I was somehow trying to harm their business with my review. This was not the case. I simply didn't like the first batch of bars we reviewed.
Several consumers of Keto Brick melt them down and pour into a silicon muffin pan to make 6 or 8 "pucks". I do this and take 2 or 3 for a grab and go breakfast or travel meal. Favorite flavors are peanut butter, chocolate peanut butter and milk-n-cookies. Not a fan of Mocha.
I didn’t like the bars until I melted and made in pucks. Then I really enjoyed. The Bells melted in a thin puck with a little peanut butter. Very good.
Hey Steve, Thanks for doing the review. As a guy who goes to the gym 5x a week, I don't know if I would go for these. I would want something I could grab and go. I don't want to carve off a chunk every time, it seems messy and hard to control your portions. Also as a retired Army guy, Cortney made me a little sad wearing a Navy T-shirt. If anyone from her unit sees this video she'll get some grief.😊
Thanks for the video. I like to do 10 mile day hikes. After I get back to the car I'm hungry enough to eat my boots! People seem to like the maple one, so I'll probably try it.
I really only like the whey protein varieties- not so keen on the vegan pea protein types. Chocolate peanut butter is my favorite of all of them! Always is best to melt down and make small pucks. Easier to eat that way. Any way you go about it, it beats the heck out of Atkins type treats. I just use them occasionally as a small treat.
Interesting video. I guess I won’t need them as I’m not into bodybuilding, weight lifting and I don’t camp, lol. That being said, the taste test was fun! Nice to see your daughter. You should be proud. Thank her for her service!
I'm not sure I'd call it a "treat", in that they are not like a candy bar (or even as sweet as many protein bars I've had). I'd consider them more of a safety net when you need a snack to hold you over (though not a full bar, obviously).
@@rjrnj1 I agree to both. Also sweets come in varying degrees of sweetness. I'm not looking for a Reese's peanut butter cup sweetness. Not sure I could ever use it as a replacement meal.
@@cathywoofter1331 Also, my taste buds have drastically changed since I started this journey. I buy Goalz chocolate because they're dark chocolate, there's hardly any sweetness to them, and that's enough for an occasional treat.
You're correct. It's not to satisfy a sweet tooth unless you dip them in choc zero spread. I take these backpacking. I pack 1/4 per day. I don't like the coconut cream either. It has a weird taste like perfume or something. I don't like choc zero chocolate peanut butter sauce. I think they ruined it.
Different flavors use different protein sources. Wish you had indicated the protein type for each one you tasted. I have tried a couple different ones and find the fat mouth feel texture off-putting.
I use a mold shared by 2KK, and it makes 8 fat bombs. If you would have read the ingredients in the Bell Brownie Batter you would have appreciated it much more lol
Just curious, when ordering like products (chocolates and such) through the mail, it is not unusual to receive the product in a softened/melty state. If this process changes the future structure/taste of said product...shouldn't the seller go to great measures to insure this does not happen? These items are too pricey to chance receiving them in a somewhat "ruined" state. Just my opinion. Ty Steve and Courtney!
I suppose it depends on what part of the country you live in. In Wisconsin, there aren't a lot of days where a person needs to worry about chocolate melting. 😉
I met Robert in 2022 and discussed the bricks. I think the issue that most have with these is that they get lumped into the "keto treat" and/or "keto snack" category. Which, to be honest, has been totally highjacked by manufacturers to tap into keto's popularity. There are literally aisles and aisles of "keto" garbage being bought by unsuspecting buyers that are no more healthy than a Snickers bar. These are a meal replacement bar for when you can't cook for yourself and don't feel like a bit of fasting. ;-). I probably have 1-2 per month, and not really more than that, as my business travel is much less nowadays...
I like tossing a brick in a blender with my coffee for the day. Then just eating dinner after work. The brownie batter and the peanut butter cup are my favorites.
@@SeriousKeto It ends up being about 8 cups of volume (so just far too much for most people lol) I put the whole brick (solid) in with 4 cups of coffee, a couple scoops of collagen powder, a little pink salt, sometimes a little Splenda (but it's not really necessary), sometimes a little heavy cream depending on my calories for the day. But just the brick alone in coffee is still good. I blend on low for about 30 seconds to break up the brick and crank it up for 30 second, then add the rest of my coffee and transfer to my cup and thermos. My Blendtec takes care of any cacao nibs in some flavors. I have a silicone form I got off Amazon that makes roughly Reece's peanut butter cup size pucks (10 per brick), that is about the perfect size for a cup or two of coffee.
I noticed a lot of people balking at the calorie count. One thousand calories is a lot, for sure. But if we’re honest, aren’t most rib eye steaks of any size 800 calories or more? And the Keto Brick would certainly be more portable as a meal replacement than the steak.
On that note, a quarter pounder meal at McDonalds is 1050 calories with a medium fries and medium soft drink. Also, there's nothing that says a person is required to eat an entire brick in one sitting. 😉
@@SeriousKeto For sure, but the Keto Brick and Rib Eye Steak are considered, “Keto,” and the McDonald’s meal isn’t. I was just trying to make the point that other Keto foods that we willingly eat can be quite caloric. Love your channel!
Thanks Steve and Courtney for the review. What is confusing to me is the serving size and why is it a brick? I would never be able to eat a whole brick that size in one sitting. I think it would make more sense to make it in bit size pieces/chunks. Or at least something you can bite into like a candy bar. If I'm on the go, just got done working out, or want a grab-and-go snack, I would not want to have to carve into something like this and clean up a mess. You also have to have a cutting board and knife, tools, just to eat a snack.
One question I have as I did not see ANY information on the website... is how many bricks does $12 buy? Since there is no information about it, I must assume ONE for $12....
@@SeriousKeto I missed that, sorry about that. I had my puppy barking at the contractors next door a lot this morning... so I did not always hear all of the audio... he likes to stand on the arm of my chair and bark at the closed window beside me... 😔
I bought their chocolate peanut butter, chocolate mint, and chocolate. I got a faint taste of chocolate at the start but after that, it just had a vegetable taste, regardless of the flavor.
The different flavors have different base ingredients. I don't like any of them but some of them are better then others. The big thing to me is to watch out for the protein source. The pea protein is yucky. And for sure you don't want to eat a whole bar. I still have half of one that I use when I want to poop. That's the effect they have on me. I cut a tiny slice and withing 15 minutes I'm heading for the bathroom.
For me i didnt try them. I tried fircthe first time at Omaha. I bought for a little treat. Never got to melting them down for smaller bites. I decided for me, too dangerous.
Keto bricks to me are just that BRICKS of keto “ appropriate” food ..tried them ..and the best I can say is meh .. it’ll do when I’m starving and a hurricane took out the power for a week ( I still have pstd from Ida)
I have to admit that your first review rubbed me the wrong way. Not because you didn't like them. I'd eaten them many times and while I don't like all of the flavors, there are a couple I enjoy. Your attitude during the video was insulting to me for some reason. I can't really explain it better than that. I felt like you guys were mocking me. Crazy, huh? Might have been the mood I was in when I watched it. Anyway, I have always loved your content and appreciate your reviews. Take care.
