You can tell the excitement in your voice that you and Sierra have a well and running water. No more melting snow at the homestead. Big congratulations to both of you.👍
Having done electrical work for over 40 years, the one thing that stood out is you need a heavier gauge extension cord to run from the gen to the pump plug. That one looks like 16 or 14-gauge. I'd go with a 12-gauge cord. Then you won't risk burning out your pump! and you probably won't have the pulsating in the Champion Gen, or set the cord on fire. And the male plug on the pump is the cheapest thing sold everywhere! Wire the end into a raintight box when you get a chance!
Yayy! Happy for ya'll 🎉 something that most people would take for granted and you guys are fully appreciative of it. Really puts things into perspective. Makes me thankful for my running water😅
Maybe a pressure switch in case the hose inadvertently gets shut off. Have you considered maybe building a generator shed in combination with the wellhead cover? (Keep the power leads short and not have to dig the generator out in the winter.)
It was easy to see how excited you are and it is something that's very easy to take for granted when you're hooked into a city water but when you don't you learn to appreciate running water very fast.
You need a well house to prevent damage from bears, moose, deer etc, and to keep it snow free. I would also just bury PVC pipe to the house tank and the coop tank and install a simple manifold with valves in the pump house, so you don't have to drag hoses around
Although with burying a pipe, he then has to worry about it freezing. Which he doesn't want to do. It's a nice convenience, but does add some potential issues. Imo, he just should have a hoses set up to the house and coop that he can drain and store during the winter.
Nicely done! Land is valuable, but land with an established well is vastly more valuable. This is an Investment that greatly increases land value, while making life so much better! Great decision, love the channel!
Your off-grid homesteading journey is truly inspiring! The way you've transformed raw land into a thriving oasis is a testament to your hard work and dedication. Your vlog captures the beauty of sustainable living and the joy of connecting with nature. Keep sharing your experiences - they're a source of motivation for those of us dreaming of a simpler, more self-sufficient life!🫰👏
78 feet is a deep well it should last a good long time. You should never run out of water. You can get home kits to test well water too. First Alert, the same company that makes the smoke detectors makes them,, among others. Also, It should be possible to add a automatic switch that measures load ( amps) to the power supply of the pump so that if you ever forget to shut the pump off before you shut the valve it will shut itself down. Just to be safe. (P.S. The well water here in the agriculture area of the country is all poluted.)
Congrats to you on having a drilled well! you are So Very right about well water tasting better than city water. no chemicals, just pure clean cool water! your Home looks Awesome! Love watching your videos! :)
Congratulations. I would make a single recommendation. Add a light to your well house that comes on when the well is on. It will help you know from the inside of the cabin or a distance if the well pump is on…especially if the valve is not on. Congrats again!!!
The fact that the two of you have found eachother is amazing. Each willing to tackle this adventure together is not something many people find in a partner. Wishing the two of you the best.. skeeter and the chickens also.
( Tom here. ) Kyle, congratulations on your new water source. You are becoming more self-sufficient each and everyday, sir. Continued good luck in your quest to live off the land. Take care. (Tom)
Great plus for the cabin Kyle. Next plan trench in some 3/4" black water line to a frost free hydrant for the Girl, garden and anywhere you want one. Enjoy Buddy.
we live in a city, in the suburbs, in new zealand. We dont buy fancy drinking water we just drink straight from the tap. Our water is artesian and its great.
Definitely build some type of shelter around it. Standing in the rain while waiting for a 5 gallon container to fill ain't fun. Or, a hot, bright sunny day, the shade will be nice. As much for your comfort as for protecting the well
House is great idea, can store generators in there, spare water jugs, hoses mayne even wite up an ecoflow with solar on top! I have bought multiple ecoflow units because of you and your channel. There are also different hoses you can run in colder tems!
So happy for you! I've been hauling water from town for over 4 years now. Hopefully will be sharing my appreciation of having clean running water at my cabin in the near future. Thanks for the great videos!
I love the vintage “UNOCAL 76” hat. I used to work at one in the late 80’s early 90’s. Nice upgrade with the well. No more hauling or collecting rain water or melting snow. I’m all about off grid convenience.
I am very excited for you both because this is a huge deal to not have to be worried about water. One less daily chore in the winter. I have an idea for your well house, a common (Welluck 15 amp flanged 120v inlet) would be perfect for this application. That way you can use solar or generator power with no fancy wiring. I used a similar unit for my tiny cabin. 😁
you could probably add some splitters -- that way you could maybe do like a little outdoor gardening sink, plus have access for hoses, sprinklers and all that. you can just use normal hoses and drain them if you leave for a while. worst case the hose freezes and you replace it. super cheap.
I randomly came across your videos and the first one I saw was from months ago and I thought why not have a well drilled. I grew up in a rural area in WV and when we got a well drilled it was great.
Please put a split adapter for different hoses. Use the green one for watering and buy an RV grade water hose for drinking. The green ones aren't to be used for drinking.
Awesome great job. I drilled well several years back and had nothing but salt water unusable moved over about 400 feet drilled another well then again, salt water.
So happy that you have a new well and won’t have to work so hard melting snow & watering the chickens! I love your videos even when they are short. I do have a ? what about the hoses over winter do you have to worry about them freezing? I am sure on these hot summer days your well water is very refreshing. Hope your chickens are doing well and Skeeter too. Have fun with your new well. Have a good week from Pa. 😊
You both must be so excited! Just one tip - I saw that you're powering the pump with a small gauge (wire diameter) extension cord. That to me is a no, no. It's called something like power drop, loss. Always plug the pump directly into your generator. Google it and see what I am talking about.
The last house we lived in had well water. We drank that for 25 years. I miss it. We live in a small town now and the pump so many chemicals into the water I can smell it when I walk into the house. 6 years and it still stinks. All the water we cook with or drink goes thru a Britta filter.
Good & cold MN water! It has to be fantastic! My hubby explained how the pipe won't freeze during winter-kind of hard to believe, but no more dependency on other sources (like snow!) it must feel a little surreal to have water so handy & available! Enjoy every drop!
⛔️ We put an old facsioned looking well over ours with a small roof and a tiny bucket for looks. This helps identify the well in winter so it didn’t get snow plowed or run over with a vehicle ⚠️ Congrats Kyle, Sierra and Skeeter. 💦
I WAS A PLUMBER TILL I RETIRED 8 YEARS AGO. FROM WHAT I SEE YOU GOT IT MADE WITH THIS WELL. WE DON,T SEE MANY OF THESE WELLS IN CANADA BUT THEY DO WORK GREAT. MAN OH MAN YOU HAVE GREAT PRESSURE FROM THAT PUMP.
We have a well, and it's not as exciting as we had hoped. It's hard water, and we don't drink it without running it through a Berkey filter. Plus, the surrounding farmers spray tons of chemicals that probably get into my ground water. But it's free! :)
That is fantastic that you finally got water and you don't have to haul it from somewhere else. We don't drink our city water, we go and refill our gallon jugs. Can't even stand the smell of it coming out of the tap.
