I searched CNN to see if they had any breaking news on their site, and didn't see a thing....NewsNation is doing a much better job at informing the public.

Rumors say that he just got caught in San Antonio, after a brief high speed chase and a successful spike strips deployment he lost control and crashed. He then bailed out of the vehicle and armed with an AR15 got in a shoot out with Law Enforcement and is now DECEASED

I don’t know how one can come to terms with this tragedy. Heartbreaking, should never have happened. I’m so sorry for the people who have lost their whole family. So tragic 😔

This situation was scary because a mile or two is not far at all. Anyone was a potential target, and Gonzalo just happened to see an opportunity and took it, but not before killing a family of 5. I would be shook up as well. It was the holiday weekend and no one thought Gonzalo was still hanging around. So scary.

I remember this LEO speaker who was pissed when media asked questions he didn't like. Residents in the area around that time told media that LE did not check all the houses within the perimeter. Both the escape and how LE responded should be investigated by a 3rd party agency. I agree with this lady, to call it negligence is actually an understatement.There must be consequences. The ones in charge are certainly relieved that Lopez isn^t around to testify and let us know what actually happened!

According to the news, Gonzolo Lopez was shot and killed by authorities in Atascosa County, TX after a short vehicle pursuit and foot pursuit.

Blame the police for a criminal's actions. Blame a gun for a criminal's actions. You news are something else.

To be frank, I’m not so sure I’d put any of my weight behind this PD accurately investigating and solving a mass homicide of this size - of any size - and for it to happen _within the circle they claimed to have tabs on_ …? He’s an easy pin for them. As a Texan, I am downright embarrassed to my core by these people sworn to protect communities *and children.* May they please Rest In Peace. And may they receive actual justice. Lord have mercy I can’t imagine living in this community either. I’d be scared shitless.

This is a really hard criminal to defend against even if you lock your doors and sleep with a gun under your pillow. The guy sounds like a ninja of sorts who will know when to spring his ambush on victims once they let their guard down for a second. A real super predator. They didn't go into those woods or do any real searching or he wouldn't have gotten far and he didn't get that far.Texas LE dropped the ball bigtime on this search and trying to find this guy.

If I'm seeing this right, in the satellite image, that house was literally right next to where he ran from. Like it's pretty much directly in the direction he was last seen running, which was east northeast, n he could have gotten there in just a few minutes. How could he hide right there this whole time.. right off the highway. There's a sizeable dock on the lake, I bet he hid under it. Also that lake would help him lose the dogs.. also water/dock would hide him from thermal cams. That house should have had a giant poster mentioning that he was last seen very close by and running this direction.. I bet the owners didn't know the bus stopped so close. And they incorrectly had faith in the law/tdcj efforts..

Why didn’t they us the military to sweep the entire county and use their high tech drone’s. It took for a family to die to get on his ass it’s heartbreaking for the family lost and plus all the tragedies that just happened.

Look to me like they are out for a horse ride! Do they think he is walking down the street? He has a truck now and maybe something else by this time. He gets to Mexico he is gone! Then in a year or so he can walk right back in through the south no border places.

All of this could have been prevented. Law Enforcement should have went door to door in that area especially after Lopez was spotted and evidence he had broken in a home and stole weapons. So they knew this psychopath was armed and dangerous and didn't think it was necessary to warn everyone. I'm sure if that grandpa knew a crazed killer was in the area he would not have chosen to bring all his grand children to that weekend home but he didn't know and now a whole family was wiped out. I can't even imagine the heartache and grief this poor family is enduring right now. So senseless Lopez didn't have to kill those kids. He did because he could.

Um, can you say, "we need handguns to protect ourselves" . . . ?

1. Prisoner escapes handcuffs and shackles. 2. He escapes secure locked cage he is sitting in. 3. He somehow gets from his cage to the front of the bus without the guard in the back of the bus with the shotgun seeing him. 4. Somehow cuts through the cage the armed guard bus driver is in, enters that compartment, he and the driver struggle, go off the bus, guard is stabbed in the hand and shoulder, convict gets back on the bus without the guard firing a shot and convict drives away. 5. While the fight is going on in the front of the bus, the guard in the back of the bus goes out the back door and shoots out the tires on both sides of the rear of the bus. Doesn't shoot the convict fighting and winning the fight at the front of the bus, or after the convict gets in the drivers seat and drives off. 6. Both guards then chase the bus for a mile on foot before the bus crashes into the ditch. 7. The convict then jumps off of the bus and runs through a field as other law enforcement arrive. Convict wearing all white runs through the field into the bushes out of sight with nothing more then a sharp cutting instrument in his possession. Not a shot was fired at him. 8. Two weeks later a family on a weekend getaway to a cabin are murdered and their truck stolen. These are the facts as reported by the media relations guy for the DPS. Bad enough the escape occurred, but innocent people were killed. I have been in Law Enforcement for years and this makes absolutely no sense to me. This isn't even a good fake story.

1 mile is a 25 minute walk for a fit person, or 2-3 minute drive at 45mph

The news reporter is correct in that his mugshot should have been on every house in the area. Bcoz they were weekend vacation type homes there should have been a better plan to notify the people in that area. 5 people gone. That's just horrible.

Mam, you are absolutely so correct. I commented the first couple of days when the commanding officer was cheer leading and calling the driver and guard heroes that they were way out of line. The commander said they would capture him within Hours or minutes. You have every right to be angry. You said it and I said it except I really thought he was long gone. But he had help. No doubt. And he's a member of Mexican Mafia . I will say it again .they will not catch this guy.. I know that you don't care about recognition. I worked with TDCJ before. It's not well equipped and they underpay their officers. Max you make as level 3 officer gets paid is $2,400 monthly. So officers get lackadaisical with security.
