We love you guys and what you lost with your computer it can't take you away from your loyal fans. We know it's time consuming trying to replace lost footage but we're not going anywhere. Trying to get back what you can remember what you lost I call it baby steps. Think about this, a lot of the people in Israel have lost everything and most everything they had can't be replaced. You both have each other and your beautiful children. Yes, you have lost some of your income but our God will provide what you need for your beautiful loving family. 😇😍❤

Yes, both Israelis and Palestinians have lost everything and I pray for both sides as innocent people are the ones who bear the consequences of political people but let's remember this is not a political channel. Pray for all those affected.

It happens to the best. Just pick up and move on. Have you considered an external hard drive? Just back it up each time you're on the laptop. Don't forget to unplug the external drive after each backup. Unplugging will help keep anything going with the laptop from reaching out to the external drive. Such as lightning strike or major power surges or if something spills on laptop. Just saying. Love you folks and hate this for you, but it's not the end of the world.

I'm so sorry guys. But there's no need to apologize to us. We're grateful that you're here and that you provide such wonderful content. I understand your frustration and concern for the lost footage which means lost income, but you'll recoup that. At the end of day you're all healthy and doing well. That's more important than anything else.

I worked at a local camera shop for over 6 years and I can honestly say that just about everyone has had a glitch of some type with either the memory cards or a laptop. It stinks for sure. Just look for the silver lining. Sending a huge hug! You got this!!!

For the last three or four nights I have checked to see if you had posted. Having worked on heavy equipment, some building and raising two kids, I knew life happens and hoped that everything was OK with you four. I don't want to trivialize your data loss, but seeing you two on camera, knowing the family is OK was my main concern. The cabin is looking awesome. The video work, and everything that goes into making one is time consuming and frustrating. Thank you for the update and hug each other.

So sorry for your loss...think of those who lose EVERYTHING in a house fire or tornado or hurricane, etc. I have a friend who lost all her children's, baby photos, wedding photos, family heirlooms, in a tornado. Hope this does not make you feel so bad.

Exactly! I live in Florida and Hurricanes have wiped out tons of houses and we still have people living in FEMA places from a hurricane a year ago and now we’ve had 2 more hurricanes since!

Losing memories is heartbreaking💔 I am much older than you two, and what happened to me was devastating. In my early years I hardly went anywhere without my camera. Almost all my photography was on color slide film. People, places, trips, events that were all documented here, and in many of the states and countries I visited before 1979 all disappeared during one of my many moves while in the service. It still hurts to this day, because they are the only physical record that I have of all the people that made my early life a wonderful one to have lived. That was a hard pill to swallow. With the advent of digital cameras, computers, smartphones, tablets etc , I have back-up to the back-up .... a little overkill .... but better safe than sorry. The sad thing is, that even with all that tech.... I don't find myself taking many pictures or vids. Sometimes I think I miss the moment, because I'm too busy trying to capture it on my phone etc. YMMV .....take care you two.✌🏻

A difficult lesson and one that all of us have been through! External hard drives and duplicate storage are a must! Like many of the comments say, chalk it up to a mistake you couldn't control and keep on keeping on! I lost thousands of photos in a computer transfer a year ago. I can tell you a year later, I still miss some of the photos and edits, but ultimately my work has progressed and improved and it doesn't hurt like it used to

An easy backup plan is 3 copies of data, 2 forms of media (USB, Hard Drive, DVD, CD, etc) 1 off-site (Cloud, Work, Mom's House, etc). Unfortunately most people don't figure this out until it's too late like you did.

There’s nothing worse than losing photos and videos because of a drive failure. Does the MacBook not support Apples Time Machine? That being said it will take a while to restore your karma but you will get there. Keep up the good work you have done entertaining us. It’s very much appreciated. 👍👏

Sorry to hear about the computer taking a dumb on you guys, it happens to the best of us. I would suggest just doing one take videos and posting them. 🦋 And I think another valid point to consider is that people lose the record of their lives every day in fires, floods, hurricanes, etc. and sometimes they even die. So let’s go down the positive route. There will be many more videos. You both are OK your lovely children are OK so let’s pick it up and move on that’s all you can do and thanks for sharing with us. The DRAMA over a few videos is a bit much.The looks on their faces in the thumbnail photo told me someone died or there was tornado and they lost their home and the one their building and their solar array. Trent & Allie on their channel use to do the same thing and have dramatic thumbnails like there grandparents died which is what there subscribers though immediately because there like in their 90's . Or something happened to Leo there little boy because he had a rough few months after birth so many viewers really got on them about doing that crap and they learned and don't do it anymore. They realised they didn't have to do that to attract viewers and subscribers and these to need to learn that to because this was a ridiculous reason to act like something really bad happened when it was actually pretty much nothing . I pray karma doesn't come back to bite them because I was taught you don't say things that really didn't happen because you may regret it later. Me, I would feel ashamed for making my hundreds of thousands of subscribers panicked and then listen to me tell them in the video that it wasn't really anything that was a big deal at all. Crap like that happens to people everyday and no one dies over it or loses their home . Here we have isrealis being slaughtered in ghe most horrific ways and now a full scale war and more innocent people dying and Americans and isrealis held hostage in tight underground tunnels and Omg they lost alittle video footage and a freaking computer . I wonder if they would trade being killed or being a hostage of terrorists for there stupid computer dying and losing videos. Absolutely pathetic and ridiculous and I can't imagine thos video being Spencer's idea either. There very well-off or they wouldn't have just sunk a ton of money into a large land plot in the mountains somewhere. Very disappointed in the dramatic BS I thought they were better then that

My thoughts exactly. Although, I'm new to SSD drives and after a cursory GOOGLE don't know if SSD's offer the same potential to be recovered as harddisk drives. I do know that some very good computer forensics people can pull data off of just about anything.

In gneral, they are more stable and since no moving parts less likely to die. However, SSD do have failure points, that is why backups are so important.@@jdbattin

As a grphic designer I feel this... Lost about 8 months of work a few years back. Was a hard lesson learned in making sure you back up EVERYTHING weekly on a hard drive, even simply for peace of mind.

Oh noooo!! I’m so sorry to hear about your data loss! That has happened to me before. I’m a teacher and I lost ALL of my lessons! Now I save everything to the cloud. I'm so sorry this happened to you. The loss of footage must be devastating... I'm sure the repair people suggest this, but just in case they didn't, set "time machine" to auto backup your internal drive to the external every hour (while in use). Time machine has saved me numerous times in more ways than one. Highly recommend it moving forward. Love you guys, you're both so inspiring.

Oh guys so sorry. I suffered same problem but did not have a social presence so all I lost was work related which was backed up on their servers so I got that back. It is deflating and quite a surprise. But lesson learned, right? Murphy’s law in play~. Deep breathes and go forward.

@@DEJones71it saves a copy of your drive to the cloud then anytime changes are made to your drive it updates the backup. If something goes wrong you can start from the last backup. Its just apples cloud backup.

@@DEJones71 Yes. It is built into the OS and allows user to back up to a local hard drive or a network hard drive or to iCloud. Local hard drive is very trivial to set up and use.

Follow the 3-2-1 backup method: 3 copies of the data, 2 locations where the data is stored, 1 off-site. Many RU-vidrs have had to learn this by losing a few videos. It's hard when you are still working with the data, but it should become part of your work flow and be as automated as possible.

May this failure be a blessing and a sign of greater things to come. Been there and dealt with that in our ministry as well. We've even lost data on failed Enterprise HDDs - disks you wouldn't expect to fail, but they do. Build better and be prepared for failures before they come. Love what you've done to the place! No worries, and no apologies needed! Many of us computer users have gone down the same road as you have, and have lost countless files. A frustrating bump in the road for you, but soon you’ll get back on track. Furthermore, you could have had a fire, or perhaps a serious medical problem with yourself or one of your children. This will pass, and one day you’ll look back and laugh about it (maybe swear too), but also realize, it could have been worse. Your subscribers will not abandon you, I assure you of that!

Yeah atleast they can sit back and laugh about it. Many Isrealis don't even have a head to laugh with because they were attacked in the most horrific ways possible. Beheaded while still alive .babies behead and killed others. Ripped the unborn baby out of a living moms stomach and then killed the baby in front of here then killed her. Little kids beheaded in there own beds before even getting out of bed for the morning. Americans and isrealis taken as hostages into tight underground tunnels waiting and praying someone comes to rescue them but knowing they won't get out alive. A music festival about peace and 260 shot dead or beheaded or butchered . I don't think these two had any problem at all when you see and think about what happend to those poor innocent people and theirs over 20 Americans that have been killed in some of those horriclfic disgusting ways too. But omg these two lost an effing computer and video files. OMG THE WORLD WILL SOON END BECAUSE OF THEM "LOSING EVERYTHING THEY HAD" SO DAMN PATHETIC.

Sorry for your loss and sorry for the loss to all those that follow you. You offer not only great entertainment but some really great information. Now, I hope Apple provides you with a new computer. I had this happen a while back and it took a "fight" to get them to repair my Apple laptop, but after letting then know I would, via social media, let the world know about their problem and they did not service their clients and take care of the problem their system created. The little announcement should help you to get a new computer (I had to send my compute to the but it was repaired.) Good luck and keep up the excellent work!

This kind of loss is devastating. At this point I have lost so much in life that was precious to me that I'm just kind of numb. Nothing really matters. This life is temporary and losses are unavoidable. They're going to happen. So you don't even get attached like you did any more. That might seem bad but it's actually healthier. Because the belief that we own anything or that anything belongs to us is really an illusion. Since anything you think is yours can truthfully be lost at any time, even without warning. Faith helps one keep a balanced mind to bear the innocence lost and to accept the actual loss of things you no longer have and cannot replace. And also helps you put things in perspective and understand the bigger picture. Having something important taken away may seem cruel now. But the truth is it could be worse and the setback is actually preparing you for something better. Really, even at one's most anguished moment - all is well. ❤

Sorry to hear about this. The sinking feeling that you experience when this happens is unlike any other. What I do these days is back up all of my video projects across two external hard drives (redundant storage). I know that doesn't help now. The loss of data is aggravating. I also use Carbonite, which is great for backing up your files, including those huge video files. A guy at work mentioned this to me after his hard drive crashed, and he lost a couple of years of video files.

Y'all hang in there. These kinds of setbacks are SOOOO maddening but they are part of life and part of business.... they happen. Plan on it! The good news is that every time I have had a setback that I thought would ruin me, I came out WAY stronger and more prepared for the next challenge. I suspect this will be the case with y'all. Awe, I’ve been there especially when loosing videos and family memories. It took a while to get over this and this may sound a little preachy, but please don’t. I take care of my mom who is paralyzed and would give anything to be able to do something as simple as wash dishes or do laundry. What I’m trying to say is that watching you both your video should be titled, “we lost everything to realize we have everything” Love watching you both. It’s only going to get better from this day on. The honesty, vulnerability, honesty and wonderful vibe is so refreshing 🤗

Having been in repair for many years, putting everything on an external drive right away is always the best. It also having a backup of that in case is also a good idea. I used to tell people tie it to a routine that you always do during a week. It saves a lot of heartache later!

I feel with you. Losing even a small part of your digital work feels like a great irreplacable loss. Had that recently with losing a course I worked on for a month. Sorry for your loss That’s why you should have backups I store on a NAS system and additionally most important files on a hard drive But you will survive and we will survive it

Hi, I am so sorry you have had such an issue, and IT challenges - I can totally relate 🥺😢. As a thought after my ‘challenge’ I now how an Auto Backup set up on my Computer to my Cloud storage every evening at 7pm- makes me take a break 😂 and embrace a quiet lifestyle & give my mind a break. Was wondering where you where , missed you these last weeks , main thing is that you are all well , you have memories of what footage you lost and i think thats all that matters . I was in the far east in the 80s and i came back with rolls of film with pics of amazing views ect , the chemist that i took the film to burned down !! lost the whole lot but the memories are still with me . See you soon !!!

I am so sorry to hear about the computer problems, I am sure you will backup data more often (there are so many options that this could all be done even while you are sleeping). I am sure the family videos will be the hardest thing, but the kids will continue to grow and the work will still need to be done. Thanks for sharing!

Agh that sucks! My condolences. Don't blame yourself, this stuff happens to all of us. As someone who has had their Macbook Pro for twelve years now it's nice to know about this whole hard driver soldered to the motherboard situation. That just totally sucks. You've got our sympathies!!

My iMac has been acting funky so I have been backing up everything in the cloud. Never a dull moment. You have accomplished so much and you’ve done a beautiful job.

Yeah I know how you feel I’ve loss data and work as a graphic designer it can be very heart breaking but for you you also lost income and that hurts. Just know we are rooting for you thank God it was only a month when you get back to releasing the next videos we will all be here waiting patiently. Thx for the update

Good to see you two and of course like everybody else, I'm so sorry that that happened to you! And of course, it is not just footage you your livelihood. For you, it's business lost as well. I hope Apple is reaching out, and maybe they can do something about your hard drive! At least you DIDN'T lose all as your click bait title said! Don't do that to us anymore, we love you and don't want to be scared like that about you!

It is truly a shame for the lost footage, but it is just stuff. The family is safe and well and that is a true blessing Your dedication to your viewers will have you back on track and ready to move on to the next adventure. It is bad for you because you know what you lost, but hey we will never know the difference and not even miss it. Keep up the good work.

🦋 A lot of us do that even just with every day business stuff. So I’m glad that you’re putting this video out. It’s a reminder to people to do this it’s important to do this and hopefully we can all learn because you’re not the only one out there doing it that way. So the fact that you’re taking out the time to be honest and transparent about what happened and why it happened can only help the rest of us. Does that make it feel any better for you? I’m sure it doesn’t. But will it be helpful If it doesn’t happen to you again or to maybe a lot of other people? That’s the direction we need to fly in. Was going to say the same thing. Plus, he'll explain to them why they shouldn't use Apple products (if it wasn't already apparent to them after this debacle). But it sounds like they're going to try to keep using a MacBook for their work like an abused spouse that keeps going back no matter how badly they were treated.

Thankfully it's only footage that has been lost (annoying, frustrating it certainly is) but you have not lost your drive and spirit and the determination on creating your family's slice of heaven on earth in both builds of the home and cabin. I've been following since March 2020 and have enjoyed every single episode of watching your progress, keep soldiering on guys :)

We've all been there and it is heart breaking. As someone mentioned further down, multiple different backups is the way to go. And if you ever get another laptop in future try and find one that has a non-soldered SSD/HDD (though that means non-Apple). I'll take this as I need to go and make some backups now.

Well you took my breath away when I read we lost everything. My heart just broke. But now I am not devastated. I am really sorry for your loss of data. Keep trying there are forensic experts who can retrieve at least part of the hard drive. Keep the faith. We love you guys
