he becomes more than just a human after he drinks from the water of life. imagine you have the memories of all your ancestrals, all the knowledge, you understand the whole game plain inside out. Paul was prepared to be this more than human figure, many generations before he was born.
@jaquandrejones
@jaquandrejones 4 месяца назад
Thinking about dune that way misses the point. Paul's previous generations were cherrypicked and controlled, everything he accomplished was his own. Also, Paul wasn't "ready" to be Muad'Dib, that's why he runs away at the end of the second book.
@casper2694
@casper2694 3 месяца назад
@@jaquandrejonesI thought he did become Muad'dib? Its just he was not willing to make the personal sacrifices required to initiate the Golden Path and chose exile instead, luckily his son succeeded him, but at the cost of his own humanity.

@@casper2694 Becoming something and being ready are different. Paul ran away from all of life, tho, not just the golden path. Becoming blind was his choice since artificial eyes are so available, so exile was his out after Chani died. He wanted the easy way out. SPOILERS (Mostly Thematic): The thing I didnt pick up on as clearly when i read the book the first time, that this movie depicts fantasticly, is the way Stilgar is transformed from "just" a believer to a full on zealot. To the point where he is in tears at seeing the "prophecy" come true before his eyes. Affirming all his hopes and beliefs. And by the end of the movie he is the most devout. "No more terrible distaster could befall your people than to fall into the hands of a hero" indeed. Frank Herberts warnings about charismatic leaders and twisting of faith comes through so well.
@XieRH1988
@XieRH1988 4 месяца назад
That scene at the end with Paul going "lead them to paradise" and Stilgar literally cheering at the prospect of being sent out to do more war and conflict really hammers home the reality that all sense of reason and rationality had left the person, in a way he's even more tragic than chani because while she see the horrors about to unfold, he's happy to be a part of it, all for his messiah.

While I can't speak to the level of faithfulness to the books, I can unequivocally say that Dune: Part Two is, along with Godzilla: Minus One, are my two favorite films I've seen in theaters in the past five years. I rarely see a film more than once in theaters but I gotta see this at least twice. An easy 9 to 9.5/10 imo.

if you wanna pick up the books dont forget that in spite of being the closest to each other they are still very different . a lot of focus is on inner monoluges and how to checkmate each other . its fun tho so good luck if you get in there . p.s.:Frank mostly wrote a sequel called dune messiah to what this story is because people rather then questioning paul where fangirling all over him so he went aight if you still dont get it i guess i gotta write 4 more books .

Sorry to tell you but it IS because of the liquid that he changes, pretty much like Eren after the 3rd Season, he now knows everything at all times, past, present and future. So he is not "Paul" anymore. He tells that to his mother "I can see it now, the visions are complete. I can see the future, every future, I know what must be done".

HIGHLY recommend reading the book (the first one) I wasn't a big fan of Messiah the second one and if I remember right that's all the original author wrote (edit: incorrect he wrote the first 6 but I still stopped after the 2nd cause I wasn't a fan) so I stopped there. But yes it's EXACTLY what you said that in the movie there aren't big exposition dumps (which is good for the pacing of the movie)... in the book you find out how the tent technology works lol... the man goes into ALL of the detail! I loved this movie but there is something with the end that differs from the book that made me not love it as much as most other people I see online seem to love it. I just saw it a second time and I think I narrowed down what it was but am not gonna spoil it on this post in case Ryan reads it and wants to read the books. Most of the changes from book to movie I think were well done to make it a better movie experience, and to set up for a better 3rd movie. Just this one thing I think the book does much better and it just didn't sit well with me still is a 10/10 movie for me though.

Ty for not spoiling cuz I think I am gonna read the books myself honestly. Really impressed with the film. It wasn't your standard brainless AAA blockbuster movie, it actually respects your intelligence and didn't have stupid comic relief quips or anything like that. Also it just had a lot to sink your teeth into and lots of little details to enjoy.

@@whirlwind872See the thing is there still was comic relief in there it just felt natural. Stillgar was hilarious in the movie, but it also didn't immediately follow sad/intense moments with random comedy which undercuts your feelings. That's only alright if one char is trying to cope with another char through comedy but they're both hurting. But yeah the book is incredible! It has a wild amount of detail about everything in the world he does such a good job world building throughout it that similar to the movies even though you only go to like 2-3 planets you have an understanding of how a lot of the universe operates because of the hyper detail oriented way he writes things.

Denis recently said he’s actually almost done writing a script for Dune Messiah, which he considers to be the ‘ending of the trilogy’, and Hans Zimmer said he’s already working on music for it (like how he started working on music for Part 2 when Part 1 was still in theaters), so while it’ll probably be a few years, I think Dune Messiah will almost certainly happen. However, while there are six original Dune books, personally I’m doubtful we’ll get anything beyond Messiah, cause that has a pretty natural ending so to speak, and the following books get W E I R D. Either way, loved the film and so glad Denis actually pulled it off!

Happy to see how well received the movie has been so far. I loved all of Villeneuve's movies so far, and I was disappointed when his really good Blade Runner 2049 did not perform well (being a slow and intelligent movie released during the peak of MCU with popcorn flicks stuffed with mindless CG battles, obnoxious humour and random easter eggs), so hopefully this can be his true consecration among mainstream audiences. I am hearing some people already comparing these movies with Peter Jackson's LotR trilogy, but to me Dune is probably closer to Game of Thrones in space brought onto the big screen (yes, Herbert's novels predate Martin's of decades). The later instalments of the books get weird to say the least, but I feel like Villeneuve and the cast could at least close the first arc by also adapting Dune's Messiah, if this movie performs as expected at the box office. I had already read the first books, so I was familiar with the story and themes and I could follow better what was going on, but overall I think it was a good adaptation and a very solid movie, well acted and fantastic in the technical department. And it is refreshing to watch a blockbuster that dares to go beyond the simple good vs evil conflict with a morally easy resolution.

I absolutely enjoyed this film, though I don't think I'd consider it a masterpiece. Maybe because I read the book, lol. I think the reason why so many purists of the book are a bit underwhelmed and confused by some changes in the film compared to the book is because we were expecting Part 2 to be an almost 1-for-1 adaptation of the 2nd half/lastThird of the book and that Villeneuve would finish his stint with Dune with Part 2, when in reality it seemed his plan all along was to make it a trilogy and include Messiah as its 3rd act, so I'm guessing some of the changes and plot threads that were left unresolved in Part 2 will be more relevant for the presumed Part 3. If one looks at it from that perspective, I feel better about the film and its changes. Surely lots of people probably felt the same way when Empire Strikes Back came out as they didn't expect it to be the middle act of a trilogy, and now it's considered arguably the best Star Wars film and one of the greatest sequels ever.

A couple things (great video). Paul is a super human not just a normal guy. He’s the result of a millennia of breeding. Now yeah a ton of it is about the power of beliefs. Lastly, you should read the books given the time. My favorite series by far, but warning they get really different as they go on. The first one is a typical hero’s story, towards the last books (before Frank dies) its more about big choices/larger than individuals themes.

i have a few gripes with the movie the more i think about it. Also saw it on release day and loved it at first. But there are some pretty big pacing issues. One plot point from the book was left out (space faring guild) and i didn't like the music like at all it was bland and mostly just noise to me definitely nothing worthy of a space epic like dune. However the overall filmmaking was phenomenal also the acting was great. Especially loved Stilgars performance. Edit: Forgot to mention the black and white scenes they were exceptional especially since most directors are afraid to do them because they are so hard to light correctly but villneuve nailed it.

Paul at the end of Dune is pretty much the best mentat ever, best swordmaster, best fighter, best genetic heritage ,son of a duke, has best training, bene gesserit male, fremen fedaykin and leader, and can not also see billions of possible futures all at once but also see the entire genetic past of his ancestors. Literally every single person he is linked to together in his mind. All their memories 1:1, and he can also see the only path forward for humanity to survive as a whole. The man is obscenely OP, but at the same time he is vulnerable. Dune Messiah and Children of Dune go out of their way to show this.

18:50 I actually just straight up disagree with you. Paul is special and he demonstrates himself to be special. It is very rational of the Fremen to see Paul as a Chosen One. First off he has magic powers and visions. Secondly and more importantly he portrays an unusual interest and mastery in the ways of the Fremen, to the point that all other Fremen comment on it. In Dune 1 he was able to perfectly wear the desert outfit, stunning his Fremen guide, and then he was able to execute a competent sandwalk. In this film he further demonstrates himself to be special by riding not just a sand worm, but the biggest sand worm. And he proves himself a war hero, capable of accomplishing great feats on the field of battle. All of this is even before the drinks the Water of Life, and the Fremen already have good reason to see him as someone special.

I think the idea is that there’s no traditional good or bad guys. From Paul’s position it seems reasonable. @@RealLifeRyan but there are traditional good and bad guys, the harks at least in the film, kill people at the slightest inconvenience for example. From the readers perspective Paul choice is always the least bad option, and other characters who oppose him simply are not privy to the same facts that allow him to make the least bad choice. I'm sure he could seem bad to someone in the story if they don't know his killing billions to save trillions, but as far as a story goes his just obviously in the right.
